Dan Cammish NAPA Racing UK - Free Practice - Snetterton - 23 May 2026

SPEAKER_00

Well Dan, uh the mark has laid down. I know we always say this about free practice, but you had uh a win here last year. Uh I think you like it around here, don't you? And you've just come out on top with a very, very tidy FP1.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah it was, it was really a really lovely FP1 car feels in a really good window, straight out of the box. Engineers did a great job, Jay's Mundy's come here with a slightly different idea on the what I need, having watched you know you know some of the onboard and looked through the data and I thought the car was fantastic from this from the off. Um in a good place ultimately, you know. I think we are fast around here. I've proven that in the past. I think the car works really well here. There's more corners and we're good around corners, that's just the way the focus has been for a long time now. So I think the twistier it gets, the better we can be. And um yeah, I think we just proved that there. That was a good session, but it's only early days. Um ultimately the speed will go up from here. Yeah, but I think we'll go with it. I think we have a really good package to work with, and uh yeah, it's a strong start, but I need it, I need a strong start. I need a faultless, you know, a real faultless run uh all the way through, really, to put myself back into any chance of uh you know a good result in this championship.

SPEAKER_00

You climbed out of the car with a smile on your face, which which I hadn't seen for a little while.

SPEAKER_01

Oh it's been uh yeah, you know, it's just been a funny couple of weeks, hasn't it? I don't know. I've got such a fast car and I can't seem to use it, um, which is frustrating. Um I've said before, I think the championship's designed to trip you up and um and I keep being tripped up. Um it's a shame because I think if it was if it was sort of the old-fashioned way of going motor racing that you're allowed basically to drive the fastest thing you've got at any given time, I think I think we'd be in with Chantery Championship, but we're not, you know, they they throw different boosts at us, they throw different tires at us, um they trip us up every which way. And um and I just need we just need to get better as a team at my managing the weekend, and and you know, I I thought we'd try to do that at Brands and uh obviously race two, it rained, you know, ultimately, and um I got a puncture uh from a bit of contact, which is unless a shame it is, but it's touring cars, things happen. Um I need to get off myself off these, I need to get on the right side of the look, on the right side of the result, and my plan is that here is the start of that. It's an eight-round championship as far as I'm concerned. I'll start now. So just finally we should touch on track temperature and the impact that's having on tires. You mentioned to me that they're they're coming in pretty quick. Oh yeah, they're coming almost immediately. You know, it's uh cooler days you can really sort of feel the tire come up to temperature and you've got to give it a little bit of time. And tyre warming and how you do that's really important. I don't think it matters what you do today. I think I think your grandma could drive around and she'd get a lot of tire temperature, so um it's it's it's hot, very, very hot out there. These cars are pressure cookers are the best of times on taste like today, they're they're sadistically hot. Um I feel good actually, um you know, monitoring just myself, just taking a nice deep breath, not pushing too hard where I don't have to, just trying to manage myself in the car, and um you know it's easy to uh find yourself in a difficult situation in these kind of temperatures, but yeah the tyres for sure are um they'll be feeling it today. So that'll be something that you know as a team, as engineers, I'll have to be very mindful. Have a really good qualifying out.
