5 Minute Friday: Lay The First Brick
Perfection is the prettiest excuse to stay still, and it’s costing you the future you want. We share a simple, repeatable method for starting now—no hype, no waiting for the stars to align. The three-brick approach helps you take a tiny first step, observe it without judgment, and protect your momentum until change sticks.
We begin with the real reason people stall: they’re hunting for the perfect time. It never shows. Instead, we break the start into the smallest credible action—like putting on your running shoes or standing in the gym for ten minutes—so friction falls and action begins. From there, we shift into gentle measurement. Track what you did, not what you didn’t. When you see proof, your brain buys into the story that you can keep going.
Then comes rhythm. We explore how to keep a streak alive with minimum viable versions, identity cues, and environment design so you don’t rely on motivation. The deeper insight ties it all together: build your wall before you need it. Start coaching before the crisis, launch the podcast before the pressure, train before the deadline. When life gets loud, you’ll lean on a structure already standing.
Expect clear examples, quick prompts, and the nudge you need to move today. If you’re tired of waiting for perfect, this is your sign to lay one brick and let momentum do the heavy lifting. Subscribe for more Five Minute Friday boosts, share this with someone who needs a push, and leave a quick review to help others find the show. What’s your first brick today?

Hey, it's Jordan here, and we're here for Five Minute Friday. And I want you to stop waiting for the perfect, and I want you to build your first brick. So, what that looks like is too many people wait for the perfect thing to start. I'm gonna give you a little secret here. There's never a perfect time. There's never a perfect moment. Things are always gonna be stressful. But the truth is that if we're able to lay our first brick, that will get us so much closer to our goals than if we never try it all. Because the truth is we're gonna make mistakes, we're gonna have errors, we're gonna have disappointments. And that's the trap of perfection, is that we we never get started. So there's a bricklayer method that I have, and it's called the three, three-part brick layer. So brick one is lay today's brick. So let's use the example of maybe you're not running and you want to start running more to get in shape or whatever. So we can do the first brick is lay the brick, which is put on your shoes. Like just put on your workout shoes. You don't have to do the entire thing. You don't have to go outside, you don't have to run, just wear your running shoes around. Brick two is I want you to inspect it, which means I want you to measure and monitor what you're doing. And I don't want you to judge yourself. I don't want you to be hard on yourself. I don't want you to ridicule yourself because you actually made progress by putting your shoes on and going outside is making progress. And a lot of us ourselves don't give us credit for that. And then brick three is I want you to keep the rhythm. So I want you to keep the momentum that you're building. I want you to keep going. Because if you do this, and I've done this with tons of clients where they're like, I want to start working out, I want to start doing these things. They I just tell them where are your workout shoes and then go outside and just stand in the gym for 10 minutes. They're like, stand in the gym for 10 minutes? What do you mean? And it's like, yeah, just stand there. What do you know? They start doing stuff because you have to build the habit, to build the routine to make the true change. So the real lesson behind this is that I want you to build your bricks and build your wall before you ever need it. This is one of the truest things that I've done with my life. I started the coaching before I needed it. I started the podcast before I needed it. I took things that I did before I ever needed it. So the truth is that you have to step into the new version of yourself before you ever think you need it. Because when you need it, the time's a little too late. So get started today. Get started on this Friday. Lay your first brick today. And I hope you enjoy your five minute Friday.
