Michelle Remington:

What is your emotional intelligence, some call it an EQ. This is something I never really thought about, until I found myself in the midst of postpartum depression, ready to end my life. And God intervened. And I latched on with everything I had. Because at that point, that was all I had. God was the hope. That's when I began to learn about emotional intelligence and how really, the Scriptures teach a ton about emotional intelligence. So today, we are talking about EQ.

Mental Health Disclaimer:

Before we dive in, I do want to say that I am not a mental health professional. I'm simply sharing from my experience with depression, the strategies and steps that helped me. So first and foremost, I want you to know that you are not alone. Reach out to friends and family, tell them how you're feeling. Don't be afraid to ask for help. The world is so much better with you in it. If you need help, or resources, or just more information for yourself or for someone else, I encourage you to reach out to the National Suicide Prevention hotline, their phone number is 1-800-273-8255. That's 1-800-273-8255.

Michelle Remington:

Now, when it comes to emotional intelligence, I'm still learning and I suspect I always will be I mean, this is something that you're always going to be learning about. And as believers, emotional intelligence is a tool that God has given us through His Word. Now that I've been learning about what emotional intelligence is, and how to practice emotional intelligence, the more I read God's word, the more I see, like, Oh, I get that now. Okay, I understand that makes a whole lot more sense now that I'm understanding how to regulate my emotions, how to recognize my emotions, and then take action on how to deal with it in a healthy way. And if I need to deal with it at all. The Bible is full of knowledge, Proverbs, and wisdom that speaks to our emotions, and our thoughts. And it teaches us that when coupled with God, working in us, through His Spirit, all things are possible, where human effort alone may fail. With the Almighty God, the impossible can become your testimony. He sees you, he knows you. He understands you. And as you deepen your relationship with God, He will help you look deeply within yourself. He'll work through the deep pain, and continue his perfect work in you to set you free, and bring you closer to him. So I encourage you, if you haven't made the time today, make some time to go to God in prayer. And a little exercise that you can do to start learning emotional intelligence would be take the top three things that you often kind of beat yourself up about, in your mind, the top three things, take those to prayer. A lot of times I'm like God, you know, I feel this. Why is that all about? Where's it coming from? And what God will do is, take me back through a memory and recognize, oh, that's where that started. That's where that's rooted. I mean, guys, so amazing. When you fully submit to God, every part of you, your thoughts, your experiences, your emotions, your will, when you just say, Here you go, God You created me. Like I'm just, I'm just figuring it out, trying to wing it and you I'll figure out how I can drive this plane. But you're the one that understands how the engine works. You're the one that understands how every part functions and what it's supposed to do and how it's supposed to function. So I don't think I should be the one piloting this plane. I think, I think, Lord, I trust you more than I trust myself. So here you go, I give it to you. I give myself back to you, God, work in me move in me. However it is, you need to work God, I give you full permission to access every pain, every joy, every dark moment, every light moment and everything in between God, fully restore me, God, I trust you. It can be scary at first. But as is the title of this podcast, it will be worth it. As the late Zig Ziglar said, it's not gonna be easy. It's gonna be worth it. That's kind of the story of the title. Part of it is that the journey is worth it. And part of it is to remind you that you are worth the journey. Because a lot of times we need convincing just that, that we can even take the journey that we're worthy of the journey because we've lost sight of our worth. So I hope this encourages you today. I want to thank you again for joining me. This has been a worth it moment. And I hope it blesses you, in Jesus' name.
