So today, I want to focus on the thought of settling in with God. My mission is to help you get deeply rooted with God and reclaim your weapon that the enemy of God has been using against you. After going to battle for my own mind three years ago, I realized that there is a war going on for our minds. A battle that begins with how we think says you have much more control than you realize. With each episode, you'll learn how to fight back and become more confident in the truth that God already knows, you are worth it. I'm Michelle Remington, Christian mindset coach, thought strategist, and warrior Mama. Grab your sword data of the king, it's time to unleash your inner warrior princess.

Mental Health Disclaimer:

Before we dive in, I do want to say that I am not a mental health professional. I'm simply sharing from my experience with depression, the strategies and steps that helped me. So first and foremost, I want you to know that you are not alone. Reach out to friends and family, tell them how you're feeling. Don't be afraid to ask for help. The world is so much better with you in it. If you need help, or resources or just more information for yourself or for someone else, I encourage you to reach out to the National Suicide Prevention hotline, their phone number is 1-800-273-8255 that's 1-800-273-8255

Michelle Remington:

Settling in with God, it actually comes from this prayer that has been on my heart with God. And you know, I always continue to pray that God will help me to draw closer and closer to him. And at first, I was just like, I was thinking, Okay, well, I don't know what that is, but God's gonna figure it out. And he's going to help me to draw closer to Him. But that's not helpful. So what I'm finding is that as I continue to ask God to, to help me, what I'm finding is that he's showing me what those areas are, that I need to work on. Because this needs to be an active relationship. It's, you know, he didn't create us to be robots. So it's not like, okay, you pray it, and now go ahead and fix it, and everything's gonna be hunky dory. And we're just going to move on with life. Now. God created us as a versatile and impressive machine. He created our minds to be able to figure these things out and work these things out. And what I've found is that through this process of working these things out, and God's showing me these issues and then me then taking action, it's it's affirming to God showing him that yes, I mean business, I'm going to I'm going to do this, I'm going to work through this. But then it's also beneficial for me because that just helps me to draw closer to God as I'm trying to figure my way out through this. So it's a partnership. And so the idea that came into my mind is settling in with God, not settling with God not like, Alright, this is the best I can get. I'm just gonna settle here because I don't think I can do any better. No, this is settling in with God. Kind of like when you're starting any kind of relationship and Um, in that relationship, whether it be a partner relationship, or a friendship or a work relationship, like you're in it for the long haul, you know, you're gonna go through life together, you're gonna go through stuff together. And so at that point, when you enter that relationship, you begin to open yourself up, to learn about that person, learn how they do things, and then kind of work together to see how you can, you know, make a success of this relationship, yes, there's going to be hard times, and you may start to, to doubt yourself each other, whatever else may come. But you're still in this relationship for the long haul in the main point here is that you're opening yourself up in this relationship. And that's where the idea of settling in with God came from. Because, as you probably know, there's many people in the world that their idea of getting into a relationship means fixing the other person. But that's not what we're looking at here. Because God doesn't need fixing. We need fixing. But at the same token, it's not going into this relationship, what like, Oh, he's gonna fix me, and I'm just gonna leave it all to him. It's a two way street. It's a relationship that we both have to work at. And imagine that just think about that for a minute. Right? You're beginning this relationship with God, who is God, God is the Almighty Creator of everything that we see that we don't see, like time space matter, none of it would exist, if God had not created it. And it is this God that is wanting to work with you in a relationship, and learn about you and work together with you. To make it the best that it can be. The Almighty God, like, personally, that floors me, I'm like, on my face, okay. And so, just thinking about it, like this as settling in with God, what kind of relationship is possible with God, if we go into it with a mentality, and with an open mind and open heart, willing to learn God's ways to learn who he is to recognize his excellence, to recognize that he is the Almighty God. And here we are, mere humans, his creation, but out of his unfathomable, Amazing love, he chooses to make that time for each of us. And so I want to focus on how we can begin to settle in with God. And I will tell you that, in my own process of this, I have found that God wants us to be emotionally intelligent. As you begin to learn about emotional intelligence, you're gonna see, you're going to see in the scriptures and read a lot of the Scriptures a whole lot more differently and realize, whoa, now that I understand what emotional intelligence is and how it works, and how I can apply it to my life, then I read the scriptures. And it's literally like an emotional intelligence instruction book. Because if we can begin to master our emotions, that's, that's like, game set match. That I mean, that is like that, because that in our emotions, is the biggest battlefield. And the biggest area where the enemy of God has the most footing is in our emotions. And if we can begin to master and understand our emotions, then we can start to recognize patterns and behaviors that are causing that continual merry go round. ride that we're on with some of these emotional processes that we're going through. But I will tell you that you're going to need God to get there, you're going to need God to help you. Because a lot of these emotions, these behaviors, these patterns are deep seated. And sometimes there's things that we just don't remember. And sometimes it's things that we don't like, Sure, we remember, but we don't remember like that we don't remember, it's something that was traumatic for us. And so that's why it's so important to learn about emotional intelligence, and learning how to settle in with God. And I would say, the number one step that you can take to begin to settle in with God, of course, you're going to be going to prayer, you're going to be making time finding a quiet place for you to go to God in prayer. But one big step that you can take to get out of your own way to get out of God's way is to open yourself up. And it may take some time to do this. And that's okay. Because a lot of times, there's deep seated hurts, traumas pains that we have that we need to build up the courage to open ourselves up to, or maybe you've just been building this up for so long, you're just, you're just ready for God to work, you're ready for God to move, either wait, the first step is to open yourself up to God. Now, in my personal experience, I have to do this in steps. I have to do this in layers, because there's so many layers of I mean, think of like all the different things that you have been through in your life, then think about all the things that that have happened to you. All the things that you've said, all the things that have been said to you, like there's so many layers that God alone sees, and only God alone can work through to help us overcome. This is an enormous battle that is so very understated in our world today. But this is a huge, huge battleground. And once we can work with God to master this trickiness, see victory upon victory, upon victory, he says, you're going to see it. And I trust and I know that Jesus will get you there because he's done it in me. And maybe you're already on that road. Now, for me, like I began to open myself up to God, but then I was afraid because I didn't know what was gonna happen. Even though I was working with God. In this relationship, I was still afraid, because I didn't know where I was going. I didn't know what it was going to look like. I didn't know what it was going to feel like I was afraid of what would happen if God began to open up those past memories, those past hurts. But I had to get past that. And your weapon to helping you build up to that and build up to the courage to do that is creating your own patterns, by your behaviors. So if you go to God, every day in prayer, or maybe you pray more than once a day, maybe you pray at morning and you pray in the night. Every time you go to prayer, you ask God to help you open up just like the man said, and in the New Testament Scriptures help Lord my unbelief. There's, there's, I may be the only one in this, but I'm pretty sure I'm not. There was a time when I was like, how dare I even tried to ask God to help me to trust him? How dare I do that? Like I should be able to do that on my own. But no, we we put so we are so hard on ourselves sometimes. And us being hard on ourselves, is basically us digging in our heels as we are in our own way. And so if we can dig up those heels and recognize that God wants us to ask him for help, because we cannot do it alone. That is not how we were created to do it alone. If we were created to do it alone, then God would not exist. We wouldn't need God But you already know that we do need God every single day. Because only God can work in our lives, in our hearts, in our emotions, in our thoughts. Only he can work in us like he does. That first step is to open yourself up to God. And it is oh K, if it takes you some time. But remember to use your weapon of creating a pattern in your behavior that moves you forward to that battle position of opening yourself up to God. Because once you open yourself up to God, oh, it's on, it is on you open yourself up to God, and he's going to begin to work in all of those areas in your life, he's going to begin to work in all of those areas that you forgot about all of those areas that you hoped he would overlook. All of those areas that you don't want him to go Sis, we have to submit all of that to God. Now, for me one thing that helped visualizations help for me. So I found myself praying one day, and as I was praying, I envisioned in my mind, a house, like a giant kind of hidden away house, in the woods. And yes, there's tentative metaphors and stuff like that can that can go into that, well analyze that later. But here we are. So I imagined in my mind visualized, this house, that is not exactly kept up, need some work. And I envisioned myself in front of the house, giving this huge set of keys to every single door, closet, crevice, attic, basement, every single door, I put it in the hands of Jesus. And I said, Lord Jesus, I give you permission to completely renovate, and go through every single room, inside my mind, and my heart, I give you permission to make changes, I give you permission to throw away and get rid of everything that is extra and is not profitable, to me, is not profitable, in my relationship with you, because Lord Jesus, my intention is to have a relationship with you, my sovereign God, where there is nothing in the way between you and I, there is no veil, there is no fear, there is no doubt, there's no shame. There is nothing in between you, My God, my sovereign, and I, because it is my full intention to submit to you, God fully, and to give you full rein God, and in submission to you God, I know that you are going to help me reach the full potential that I was created for. I'm going to tell you, my sincere prayer is that you don't get to the point where I had to get to be able to submit to God like that, to be ready to submit to Him like that. Because it took me being ready to end my life, to be able to realize that I'm not doing this on my own. And I'm really not meant to do this. on my own. I need God and I need nothing in the way between God and myself. So it is my sincere prayer, that something in this podcast today has touched your heart has reached somewhere has has triggered something in your mind that will help you to take these steps to draw closer to God, where Jesus I thank you for this opportunity. And I pray Lord, that these words that you have given me will echo in the hearts of every single person that hears this and that you that they would be able to submit to you God and take those steps so that you can be In and continue your work in them. You alone God are worthy of the praise and you alone God can help us to reach our full potential you alone, we, we are nothing without you literally we are nothing without you. If you had not spoken us into existence, we would not be here, God. So I thank you for your great love, your intention that you spoke the words to bring us into existence for a purpose, for your purpose. And I pray, Lord, that You would help each of us to strip everything else away, get everything extra out of the way. And get back to that simple fact. And begin to live and walk in that faith, knowing that you are all we need God to in your precious. Your holy name Jesus we pray. Amen. Amen.
