Open-Door Playhouse
Open-Door Playhouse is a monthly podcast harking back to live radio theater broadcasts. Created to introduce New Plays, New Writers, and… a wealth of unknown talent. Giving them the opportunity to have their works created in sound studios as opposed to live stage productions and presented on the Podcast as “Radio Productions.” Play submissions will be solicited online, outreach centers and word of mouth. Broadcasts will be once a month (to start) and grow as demand requires. Long term goal is to reach out to undeserved writing communities: prisons, school and community groups to provide an avenue to have their voices heard, via plays, short stories or poetry, and to establish Podcast as its own 501c3 organization. To submit your play contact:open-doorplayhouse@gmail.com

THEATER 171: 2064: A GAYS ODD-ESSY
In 2064, Bruce Koinstra, an 85-year-old history professor, passes away in a moon colony senior housing complex. Following his memorial service, his husband of thirty years, Kirby, along with his forty-year old daughter Septima; and teen grandson Plurial gather at Bruce's Midwest Victorian home. They await the reading of Bruce's will and the demolition crew scheduled to raze the house. Reflecting on Bruce's life, they discuss the era when LGBT rights were restricted by archaic laws and when racial discrimination was widespread.
Bernadette Armstrong directs a cast that includes Daamen Krall as Bruce, Elaine Mello as Septima, Larry Coleman as Plurial, and Matthew Scott Montgomery as Kirby.
Lorenz Qatava is the playwright. He also wrote Speak My Words, Tell My Truth, a performance piece based on the stories and writings of five Black gay writers. He additionally wrote and published a gay romance novel set in the Southern Oregon wildfires called Rain After the Fire, as well as the plays The Rustin Arrest and On the Verge.
