Speaker 1:

Welcome to the Stop Drinking Podcast, where we help you make stopping drinking a simple, logical and easy decision. We help you with tips, tools and strategies to start living your best life when alcohol-free. If you want to learn more about stop drinking coaching, then head over to wwwsoberclearcom. When it comes to alcohol and stopping drinking, you are being lied to and right now, in this very moment, you have a choice. Do you want to keep being lied to? Do you want to take the blue pill like in the movie the Matrix and just see life the way that it is and never really question anything? Or are you going to sit and watch this entire video and find out the truth? Because in this video, I need to restore some truth, because I am so sick of seeing this lie. It is pissing me off and I'm getting angry just talking about it, because you wait for what's to come in this video and listen. If you don't like conflict, if you don't like drama, don't watch this video, because I'm going to call people out in this video because I am sick to death of it. This advice is killing people. It's an outright lie. This video could be the one that just makes everything click for you and you can put alcohol behind of you and move on with your life. That's my intention with this video. You don't want to miss this one.

Speaker 1:

So, for those of you that are new here, my name is Leon Sylvester. I drank alcohol for close to 10 years and the lie that I'm going to talk to you about in this video did a lot of damage to me during those 10 years. It was something that kept me stuck for so long. So I make videos now about truth. Right, I'm trying to restore truth to this whole industry of alcohol and stopping drinking, and I'm not here today to make you feel warm and fuzzy inside or keep you entertained, like Mr Beast. I am here to give you truth, and the reason why I'm making this video this is just a quick tangent, a quick side note is me and my friend.

Speaker 1:

We were talking about podcasts and we noticed a pattern. I don't know if you've seen these podcasts at the moment, but you know they get two very high status people sat down having a conversation with each other. You'll get some expert and some expert podcaster, and I don't know if you've noticed, but have you ever noticed in these podcasts that they're searching for the truth? I've never seen it. It's two people that don't want to upset each other. They're kind of almost just asking these really easy questions, letting them say whatever they want, and there's never any pushback, there's never any dive into any specific thing that they said.

Speaker 1:

It happens, but it's so rare and anyway, the way that I saw this live is I was scrolling on Instagram, so I've recently started posting more on Instagram. You can find me at SoberLeon and I've kept off Instagram for a long time. I think it's brain rot, right. I think it's very addictive and you can't really get in depth in things like you can on YouTube. But I've started posting on Instagram now and I kept seeing this advice and I'm like dude, is there something wrong with Instagram? Are these people having a joke? What is this thing that I'm talking about? Let me get into it. So I'll see a post and it might be, I don't know 10 ways to live healthier and the post will say exercise more no-transcript less.

Speaker 1:

Do you know how many times I've seen this advice to drink less? This isn't advice. This is ridiculous. It is the stupidest thing I've ever heard in my life. See, in my own life, when I drank for 10 years, I tried to drink less. In fact, every single time that I drink a lot, I always had the intention to not drink much. I'd vow to myself right tonight I'm gonna have one drink and then that's it. And you know what, sometimes I might manage to do that. Most of the time I wouldn't. Most of the time, I'd always drink more than I intended to.

Speaker 1:

Now, sure, not everybody is like this, but to just give this advice of drink less and then put it out to everybody, it's just ludicrous. It's a little bit like the podcast that I was talking about earlier. Rather than search for the truth and really unpack this idea of drinking less, they just say it because they don't want to upset their audience. They don't want to upset the people that consume this content. Listen, I don't care if I upset people. I want you to see the truth. That's all that matters to me, because I have a 0% success rate of drinking less. And that's not just me.

Speaker 1:

In fact, the vast majority of people who try to apply this advice of drinking less never find success with this advice. It is terrible advice and it works for a small percentage of the population. How many people have you met in your life that drink less, that were drinking a lot and then all of a sudden, they've managed to miraculously start drinking half the amount that they used to. It's so rare and even if they managed to do it, it only usually works for a short period of time before it's like an elastic band that just breaks and then they're out of control again. That's what happened to me and for most people. This is terrible, terrible advice.

Speaker 1:

Just think about it for a second. Let's say I have a crack cocaine problem, right, and I've got this terrible problem with this drug. It's destroying my life. And then I scroll on Instagram and it's saying you know, if you want to be healthier, meditate, eat more vegetables and smoke less crap. What would you think to that? You know that person would be oh my gosh, they'd be attacked. They'd be Reddit posts saying this person. I can't believe they're saying this.

Speaker 1:

But then the individual that's telling us to drink less. It's fine, but just look at this graph for a minute. This graph shows the severity of addiction and the damage that the drug does to you. Where do you see alcohol? We don't see alcohol at the bottom. We see this at the peak, one of the most dangerous and addictive drugs known to man and we're being told to drink less. Dude, what are you talking about, in fact? Listen, I'm not here to name names and shame anybody I have seen. Stop drinking coaches. Listen to me. Stop drinking coaches say that they still drink alcohol.

Speaker 1:

What is going on? Have we lost our minds? What is alcohol? Right, let's unpack it. Let's ignore the conditioning. Let's ignore the way that the media has told us to view it. Let's ignore the marketing messages that have been pushed on us by billions of pounds of advertising spend. Let's ignore all of that and unpack alcohol.

Speaker 1:

What is it? Alcohol is ethanol. What do we use ethanol for? What do we use ethanol for? What do we use alcohol for? We use it to clean things as an industrial cleaner. We use it as fuel. What does it do for our bodies? Nothing. Do you know what it does for our bodies? Causes cancer. Do you know what else it does? Gives us cirrhosis of the liver. Do you know what it does for our relationships? Can destroy them. So just drink less. Just drink less of that cancer-causing substance. Just drink less of that thing that can destroy your liver. In fact, drink less of that thing that pretty much destroys every cell it comes into contact with what is going on out here.

Speaker 1:

I am sick to death of this advice of drink less. Be honest with yourself. Listen. If you like this advice of drink less, what are you going to tell your children? Don't drink or drink less, what do you really want your children to do? Do you want your children to grow up drinking this drug? I don't. If I could wave a magic wand, they'd never touch it. Listen, I won't be able to control that. That's going to be their decision, but I'm going to have conversations so they can see the lies, see the nonsense, because unpack it.

Speaker 1:

Alcohol is ethanol. It's a highly addictive, cancer-causing drug that does nothing. Things have changed now. There was a study done in 2018 that shows that there is zero amount of alcohol that is safe to drink. There is no recommended amount to drink anymore. Sure, alcohol companies have lobbied governments to say that there's a recommended daily allowance, the same way that there's a recommended daily intake of protein. Oh, what the heck is going on. Listen, I'm one guy giving you this message.

Speaker 1:

This video might get 5,000, 10,000, 20,000 views, whatever. Do you think that that's going to be enough to combat the billions of dollars of advertising spend that have been pushed on you from day one of being born, the people that watch it. I hope so, but think of all the other people that are listening to this nonsense advice. Alcohol is a drug and drugs are a chain reaction. You drink one and then you want to drink more and more and more. There's no such thing as drinking less. If you could drink less, you'd already drink less. Are there people out there that drink less? Yes, should we try to emulate that? Absolutely not. We should see those people that drink less and feel sorry for them. Why would they even want to do that in the first place? That's the right mindset. So just know, when you see this advice of drinking less, remember this video, remember this message, come back to it. And hey, maybe you should leave a comment on these people that are telling us to drink less and tell them they're out of their mind.

Speaker 1:

And one last important point that I need to get clear A lot of the times in my material, in my content on this YouTube channel, I will talk about controlling your drinking, but I never really truly explain what control means. So I do get a few comments here and there. People say this guy's crazy, you can't control your drinking. Yeah, you're right, but you can control it. But we need to define control.

Speaker 1:

I am in control of jumping in front of a bus. I can control myself. I can choose not to, or I can choose to jump in front of it I can. I'm also in control of crack cocaine. I can smoke crack cocaine whenever I want. Okay, it's illegal, so let's just ignore that aspect of things. But you get the point. I am in control of murder. You are in control of these things, but because you know that they're the wrong thing to do, you don't do them. That's true control. We live in a world where you will have to control yourself around alcohol, but that doesn't mean that you're going to control your drinking. Have one or two drinks. True control is being able to see that thing but having no desire to do it. That is true control. So don't drink less. Take control of alcohol. Take control of your life.
