I don't know if you've noticed, but it feels like everybody is quitting drinking alcohol. Like every time I look at the TV, there's now bad news about alcohol. Right, they're talking about how now there's no safe amount of alcohol to drink. A new study finds that no amount of alcohol is safe to drink. Even that one glass of wine at dinner does more harm than good. This study says Basically, it's saying there's no safe amount of alcohol to drink in terms of having negative effects on your body. Then I'll watch a podcast, and alcohol was always coming up as a topic.

Speaker 1:

I had a look on Instagram recently. I've tried to stay off that platform my whole life, but I did go and have a look at it and guess what? I keep seeing Quit drinking accounts. I don't know if there's some global phenomenon going on right now. It seems absolutely insane, but everybody seems to be quitting drinking Celebrities as well, right? Alcohol-free drink sales they're going through the roof. They're absolutely crazy right now, but I figured it out. I know what's going on. I know why so many people are stopping drinking. And it isn't going to be what you think, right, it's not going to be what you think at all, because actually, alcohol sales are not down. These alcohol companies are not going out of business. They're getting bigger, they're getting more powerful, right? How does Conor McGregor, the Rock, george Clooney, how do these celebrities go on to make these $100 million companies become mega rich? But then everybody seems to be quitting drinking.

Speaker 1:

Well, something different is going on in your life, and today I'm going to unpack it and I'm going to explain it. And do you know what? I just hope I don't get sunburned making this video, because I made a video sat here the other day. I'm not even sat in the sun, I'm sat in the shade and I swear I still got sunburned. That's how pale I am. Anyway, but that out of the way, let me explain what's quick story. So I don't know about you, but have you ever bought a new car? So let me tell you this.

Speaker 1:

So, when I first moved to Thailand so to go back a bit further basically I destroyed my life with alcohol right. I got to a place where I was at ground zero, had no money. I was borrowing money off my family. You know I was living in a shared house when my friend was on holiday. He let me stay in his room. God bless that man, james, shout out to you. I know you don't watch these videos, but I love you forever. You always have a place in my heart. But he was a vicar that I met in Oxford, a Freemason, one of my friends, and he let me stay in his place and I was at ground zero.

Speaker 1:

And when I quit drinking alcohol I had this vision for my life of being able to have feeling of like man. I can do anything If I can stop drinking. I can do anything. And what I did is I booked this one-way flight to Thailand. Now I don't know if you guys have ever been to Asia. If not, I highly recommend it.

Speaker 1:

Thailand is a really good place to start off Asia travels because it's just dead safe. People are so nice and usually I think a lot of people that travel Asia always come back here and say it's their favorite place. So I came to Asia and it's very common to get around on scooters here. I think they're really relaxed on laws. Most people don't wear a helmet I mean, most people don't even have a flipping license, right and if you get caught, you just get this $10 fine. And the crazy thing is here is if you get caught twice, without a helmet or without a license I'm not saying I don't wear a helmet, by the way but if you get caught without a license right, there was a point where my international license ran out and I got caught you paid a $10 fine and if they catch you again, you just show them that you've already paid the fine for today and they let you go. There's no jail time, right? There's no points on your license, anyway. So it's pretty relaxed in some aspects, not in others. So I come here and I get this scooter.

Speaker 1:

Then I meet a friend, I meet this new guy, and this new guy doesn't have a scooter, he's got a motorbike. He had a Kawasaki and he had a Kawasaki and he had a Honda Rebel 500cc Honda Rebel and we took this trip. We went from Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai, which was like it might have been, I don't know 500 kilometers, 300 miles. It was this big trip that we took on on these motorbikes. So he lent me his honda rebel, he went on his kawasaki and I think his wife had a, had a triumph uh, I think it was called a street twin awesome bikes. So we go on this massive bike ride. Trust me, listen, I know this. This story seems irrelevant, but it is. So we went on this massive bike ride and then we get back and I loved it. I just loved the motorbike. It was so much fun.

Speaker 1:

And then one day this guy, this friend of mine, he upgrades his bike, I think he goes and buys this other Triumph, this one that they use at the Audi TT races. It's absolutely rapid. And he says, hey, do you want to buy my Kawasaki? And I'm like, oh, do I want to buy his Kawasaki, the 650cc, z650? And I'm like, I don't know, let me think about it. And do you want to know what happened next Is, I'm riding this scooter around Chiang Mai.

Speaker 1:

All I could see was Kawasaki's and big motorbikes. Before I couldn't see them. I just saw scooters everywhere. Now I could see motorbikes and it was like all I could see. I swear I saw 500 a day when previously I saw zero. Now were those motorbikes there before? Of course they were, but they weren't in my reticular activating system, my RAS. All that had happened is that I was now aware of these bikes, but they were all there before.

Speaker 1:

So I don't know if you've bought a car before a new car. Recently I bought a BMW and listen, don't be judgmental, right? I know a lot of people judge BMW drivers and hate BMWs, right, and anyway, in Dubai the roads are very dangerous and I wanted a big, safe car that if I got crashed into I got a good chance of survival, right. So I chose a BMW X6. When I was in the market for this car, I kept seeing the cars everywhere I saw. I think there was like four cars that we wanted to choose from Porsche, cayenne, bmw, x6, there was some Mercedes, what was it called? Like, maybe GL GLS can't remember. Anyway, all of a sudden, I knew how much each car was worth. Right, I knew the different variations of the car and I saw them everywhere, everywhere. Were they there before? Yes, I just didn't notice them.

Speaker 1:

Now, do you see where I'm getting with this video? I'm sure you can relate to these stories. I'm sure there have been things in your life that you've wanted, that you've been in the market for, and then it's like they just all pop up out of nowhere. So why does it feel like everybody's stopping drinking? Well, guess what? They're not. Everybody is not stopping drinking alcohol.

Speaker 1:

Sure, it's a topic right now that people like to talk about on the internet, because it does get a lot of traffic, because it's so relatable and I'm not trying to be negative but everybody is not stopping drinking. What is happening is you are noticing it. There have been millions of people who have been stopping drinking for decades. Maybe there is a slight increase. Maybe there is a handful of high profile people that are making content about not drinking alcohol. A few celebrities, I mean what's that? Tom Holland, I know he talks about it. Bradley Cooper I mean, there are some high profile people that are talking about this topic, which is awesome, right, but I want to tell you that if you keep seeing people stop drinking alcohol, guess what?

Speaker 1:

This is an amazing sign for you on your journey. Your RAS, your reticular activating system the thing that persuaded me to buy a flipping Kawasaki Z650 in the end is working for you, and if you're noticing it and you're already sober, then it's just confirmation that you're on the right path. Right, you're not alone in this. But if you're still drinking and you're noticing it, it's just a sign. It's a sign that you're moving in the right direction. It's a sign that you're noticing that it's possible for you as well, because so many people do stop drinking and they live great lives and they don't struggle and they don't fight and they're not calling themselves alcoholics for the rest of their life. They're not doing that stuff.

Speaker 1:

I would love there to be a huge shift in society. I'm trying for a baby at the moment. Oh, there we go. I never told that on YouTube, but we're trying for a baby right now, me and my fiance. We're about to get married as well. Happy days, happy happy days, right, it's good times and you know, I'd love my kid to be born into a world where alcohol wasn't even a thing. But no, I'm going to have to deal with that and I would love it. I would love there to be a world where that wasn't the case.

Speaker 1:

Who knows, maybe Sober Leon's child doesn't drink, but hey, listen, I can't stop the kid from doing that, can I? All I can do is educate them. But anyway, this is besides the point. I just want to tell you that, if you're noticing, everybody is stopping drinking alcohol. This is an amazing, amazing sign, because what is possible for you? I'm absolutely boiling now, so guess where I'm going? Right in that pool. Anyway, speak to you in a bit. Have a great day. Thanks for checking out the Stop Drinking Podcast by Sober Clear.
