Mike Tyson can teach us so much about stopping drinking alcohol. And I'm not talking here on the surface level. It's not gonna be like some other celebrity that is giving some stop drinking advice. This isn't going to be necessarily motivational in that sense. We're gonna go way deeper because you'll see something that everybody misses. What Mike Tyson can teach us is the foundation of why I've not drank for over seven years, but I have no desire to drink. I struggled for almost 10 years. Now there's no desire, so let's get straight into it. To celebrate the release of my brand new book, The 48 Hour Alcohol Reset, I'm doing a 50 to 80% discount. You can grab the book on Amazon by searching the 48 hour alcohol reset, or you can click the link in the description of this video. SPEAKER_01Always confusion with Mike Tyson, who's standing by with Jim Gray. Jim? Yeah. Okay, thank you, Steve.
SPEAKER_00Mike, was that this one's a classic?
SPEAKER_04I bear witness there's only one God, and Muhammad's blessings and peace be upon him, is this prophet. I dedicate this fight to my brother, Darabam, who died. I'll be there to see you. I love you with all my heart. All praise be to my children. I love you. Oh, God, amen. What?
SPEAKER_02Just wait. Is it your shortest fight ever? In any time, amateur professional ever?
SPEAKER_04Until I'm a lake of miter. Um I don't know, man. Yeah, yeah, Lennox Lewis. Lennox, I'm coming for you. Is it frustrating to train like you did and then have this in seven or eight seven years? I only trained probably two weeks or three weeks for this fight. I had to bury my best friend. And I dedicated this fight. I wasn't gonna fight. I dedicated this fight to him. I was gonna rip his heart out. I'm the best ever. I'm the most brutal and vicious and most ruthless champion there's ever been. There's no one can stop me. Lynx is a conqueror. No, I'm Alexander. He's no Alexander. I'm the best ever. There's never been anybody ruthless. Sonny Lincent, I'm Jack Dempsey. There's no one like me. I'm from Nair Claws. There's no one that can match me. My style is impetuous. My defense is impregnable. And I'm just ferocious. I want your heart. I want even children. Praise be to Allah.
SPEAKER_03Are you saying now, Mike?
Building Unshakable Non-Drinker Conviction
SPEAKER_00What a classic interview. I must have watched that 10 times over the years, just popping up on YouTube. But it always, it always hits. And it gets so much traffic that I think it just resonates with people. And you can see his attitude. He starts off fumbling his words, being a little bit unsure of what he's gonna say, and then he just rifts off. I don't know if he's rehearsed this, but it was like this internalized idea that he was going to destroy the opponent. It didn't matter if he'd only trained two weeks, and you can just see the ferociousness in Tyson in this video. Now, when I first stopped drinking during the first few weeks of not drinking alcohol, this is how it felt internally. So you can see at the beginning Mike is fumbling over his words, and that reminds me of exactly how it was when I struggled to stop drinking. Hey Leon, Leon, do you want to drink? You know, I'd I'd hesitate. I'd be like, uh no. And I'd be so unsure of myself. And you can see that in Tyson in the first section of the interview. But then there's a switch. There's like this point of no return. It's like the conscious part of his brain switches off and the subconscious just goes into action and he goes from stumbling his words to just this mean, evil, nasty character. It's gonna sound crazy, but that moment where he went from umming and awring to just anger, that switch is exactly how it felt when I stopped drinking alcohol. I went from, I don't really know if I want to drink, I'm okay, I'm okay to no, I'm not drinking. And sure, I'm not gonna start telling people I'm I'm going to eat their heart if they offer me a drink, but it felt like that level of conviction. So that's the first lesson that we can take from this. It's about having conviction. And it's having that deep-rooted conviction that kind of comes up out of nowhere. It's like it's buried in our subconscious mind. So no matter who offers us a drink, that's it. Now, the next clip is even better.
SPEAKER_01Mike, uh Francois Botha, six to one on another classic.
SPEAKER_00I love this.
SPEAKER_03Are there any concerns on your part? I don't know anything about that. I don't know nothing about numbers. I just know what I can do. How about kill this mother?
SPEAKER_01Okay. How about the 19 months off? What about it? What about it? Does it pose any problem to you? You take into the ring a lot of rage. Does that work for you or does it work against you at times?
SPEAKER_03No, who cares? We're in a fight anyway. What what the matter?
SPEAKER_01Well, for example, rage against uh Vanda Holyfield worked against you.
SPEAKER_03It's a fight. So whatever happens, happens. Mike, why do you have to talk like that?
SPEAKER_00I see the rage coming out.
SPEAKER_03Well, I'm talking to you the way I want to talk to you. Do you have a problem? Turn off your station.
SPEAKER_01You know what? I think we'll end the discussion right now. Then we could. You got it. Have a nice fight, Mike.
Why Sobriety Should Feel Like Winning
SPEAKER_00It's quite funny, but what it was actually interesting here is you've got this reporter throwing questions to kind of get under his skin. And hey, maybe a media trainer would say that was a disaster. Maybe some PR expert media trainer or whatever they're called would look at this and go, Mike, that was a disaster. You could have done so much better. Maybe not because it's a legendary clip and it's kind of pushed his brand. But the important thing here isn't about that. What we're seeing here is somebody trying to get under his skin and the level of conviction that he has in himself. All the questions were made to kind of make him wobble and make him think like, maybe yeah, the 19 months off, yeah, maybe I'm gonna be a bit tired. No. But you could see Mike just be thinking, what are you talking about? I don't care what you've got to say, I don't care about your opinion. There is just pure conviction, again. There's this almost anger and rage, but I know it's gonna sound strange, but I don't want to sound bad. But with alcohol, is for me, there is a level of this. There's a level of rage. And I'm not saying that, you know, if somebody, a friend offers me a drink, I'm gonna be angry at them, but there's this rage at the entire game of how we've all been duped into drinking this highly addictive drug, this ethanol, and it pisses me off. I can't lie. So because I've got this feeling of disgust and, in a way, hatred. When somebody offers me a drink, sure, I'm very polite, I'm not gonna be uh rude to somebody, but because my worldview is built on this level of I ain't drinking, there's no way you can make me drink, the conviction I have is so strong. So even if somebody tries to get under my skin, I see people leaving YouTube comments. They're complaining, oh, you know, a few drinks is okay. And it's cool, if that's you, great, but you're not gonna get under my skin and then make me buy into your worldview. And people are gonna say, that's arrogant, that's cocky, but I'm trying to show you the level of conviction I have in the idea that alcohol adds nothing to your life at all. There are no benefits to consuming that poison. So when some human acts like this interviewer and they're like, well, you know, you you're black and white thinking, uh, it's not like that for everybody, blah, blah, I don't care. So what? Like, great, yeah, sure. That is true. But it doesn't matter. Like Mike says, it's a fight. Who cares? And that's how I feel. Who cares? So let's look at the next clip. And this one is a is a little bit negative, but hey, let's watch it anyway.
SPEAKER_02Tell me, what did you think in that first round when he was moving, trying to do an R his left? I know when I when I came to this fight, I was the best fighter in the world, and I meant live that can beat me.
SPEAKER_00So there comes that conviction again. I'm the best fighter in the world. And I know that sounds basic, but it's just the inner belief that he is going to do it. That's how I feel with not drinking alcohol. I'm not trying to compare myself to Mike Tyson, but the level of conviction I have in alcohol is probably the exact same as he had, thinking he was the best fighter of all time.
SPEAKER_02I was hitting him with body punch and I heard him actually he was crying in there, making woman gestures.
SPEAKER_00Now watch this.
SPEAKER_02He's like, uh, I can't how find him. I knew that he was breaking down soon.
SPEAKER_00So you can see that funny impression of him making the woman gestures and and and squealing. But did you see his face? Look, let me watch it again.
SPEAKER_02I heard him actually he was crying in there, making woman gestures, like uh-oh, uh, I can't how so look at him laugh after saying that.
SPEAKER_00So he's just inflicted damage on another person that's made him hurt so bad that he cried, but you see Mike just laugh it off like it's it's part of the game. But you can almost see this dopamine explosion from him doing it.
SPEAKER_02Oh, fine, but I knew that he was breaking down soon. You're saying that Biggs was crying when you were hit him? Yes. When when did that happen? And perhaps the fourth round on. So that you knew you had him by that. Absolutely, but I knew he was he was toughened and taking those punches.
Freedom Mindset And Closing
SPEAKER_00So the point of this clip is to show you how it should feel when you don't drink. So here's the problem: most people that stop drinking, they stop, and then it becomes harder and harder and harder over time. Because most people are using willpower. And then eventually, for most people, the willpower eventually runs out, and then they end up drinking again. But instead of it becoming harder over time, it shouldn't become harder. It should become easier. The same way for Mike, knowing very early on that he had won that fight, and then he knew that every hit that he took, he got a good feeling because he could hear the man in pain. That's how it should feel with alcohol. Every night that you go out, you shouldn't feel like it was harder and harder and harder to go out and not drink. It should feel easier and easier and easier. And you should feel happier and happier and happier. Because it should feel the same way Mike feels. It's a feeling of victory. That's what he's feeling when he can hear the man just make these noises. I'm laughing because it probably would be quite funny in the middle of a fight, like, haha, I got you. But that is how I feel with alcohol. The longer I drink, the better it feels because I feel free. I don't feel trapped anymore. I feel totally, totally free.
