People will ask me occasionally, who is the audience for "HR Hardball, " is it just for HR professionals? You might be surprised to know that less than ⅓ of HRH subscribers define their role as an HR function. The rest are a mix of entrepreneurs, coaches, recent graduates, and (probably) people like me who are interested in interesting people regardless of their role.
Which brings us to Allison Zofan, co-founder of a truly innovative company, OOTBox (www.getootbox.com).
Allison has a hell of a story. Like many people in the corporate world, Allison was comfy & cozy in her role with Gartner. A dozen years working with corporate real estate and consulting, she was sittin' in the fabled cat-bird's seat. Her clients included a few heavy hitters including Google, Amazon and Nationwide. The "golden handcuffs" seemed to have her situated nicely. But when approached by a close friend and neighbor about an entrepreneurial idea, not only did she get on board - she quit her cozy comfy gig at Gartner - and this was in October 2019. You may remember that was about the time we started hearing just the beginnings of "COVID 19". That's putting your money where your mouth is, amirite? You know what's tough to do - to leave a good job voluntarily!
Good fortune would befall them as well (as it does for the bold) when the product they developed, "OOTBox", became a pandemic sensation because of the applicability. This led to an appearance on Shark Tank where they actually got a deal offer from one of the "Sharks!" This is the American dream based on innovation and determination, we should all be taking notes.
