Replace the Noise: What to Do After You Silence the Inner Podcast Critic | #266
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: You know the expression where your focus goes, your energy flows?
That is a common refrain in the Rogers' household. My husband is all into Tony Robbins and he's done several of his events and he gets jazzed up every single time.
We need to get jazzed up. Every time we record or guest on a podcast, because when we're jazzed up, the audience responds to the jazz.
Hey there. I'm Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist and a woman on a mission to help you monetize every episode of your show. You are listening to Simplify Podcasting, and this is episode number 266, episode three of five episodes I'm dropping this week in preparation for our profitable podcast bootcamp that kicks off next week, May 13th. If you need to register, head on over to www.coachjenrogers.com/podcastbootcamp .
[00:01:00] So the first day I shared one thing you can do to create meaningful connection with your audience. I'm going to link episodes 2 64 and 2 65 in the show notes so you can go back and listen to those. For today's episode, we are focusing on building on what we shared yesterday and what we covered yesterday was all about a budget and not the financial one.
It was about the word budget you set up for yourself and the self-talk that you have when it comes to podcasting. I encouraged you to have a zero-based budget and to have zero negative self-talk when it comes to what you're doing when you podcast.
When we take something away, we know if you've studied habits at all, you do need to replace it with something else.
This habit replacement theory is scriptural.
Jesus shares a few [00:02:00] things that bring this point home. In verse 36 of chapter 12 in the book of Matthew, Jesus shares, I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken. Negative self-talk -those are empty words. We also know that a bit later on in this same passage, Jesus shares that when an impure spirit comes out of a person, it goes through arid places, seeking rest and does not find it.
Then it says, I will return to the house I left. And when it arrives, it finds the house unoccupied, swept, clean and put in order. Then it goes and takes with its seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and they live there, and the final condition of that person is worse than the first.
You and I know [00:03:00] that's exactly what happens when we spiral downward, when things are happening around us and the words that we're speaking over ourselves, cause us to spiral, our energy is going where our focus is going. This is why when we decide a zero-based negative self-talk budget from yesterday's episode requires us to use today's episode to replace that self-talk.
And the best thing to replace that self-talk with is committing your podcast to the Lord. The Lord has already prepared this work in advance for you to do. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us to trust the Lord with our work. Remember, the Lord is the true source of everything that you need. It means that he's going to provide for you.
You must submit. I know we don't like that word submit because it means we're giving up control. We're giving [00:04:00] up our will to do the will of someone else.
That's exactly what we're called to do as Christians. So when we podcast, we are doing the work of the Father to glorify him with the work that we do.
Scripture also tells us that the Lord will sustain us.
That he is our shield and he is our rear guard. The Lord has already prepared this work in advance for you to do. We need to trust him, and part of trusting and relying on Him leads us to Colossians 3:23. Our work is not about our work per se.
Our work is to glorify the Lord that requires us to submit. Our work to the Lord. That means giving up control of our desire to be right, to do it our way, and instead, submit to the Lord's authority and ask, what is the work that you have called us to do today?
What is it you are [00:05:00] directing me to do when I create a podcast episode?
Finally, a third verse to focus on as we replace the negative thinking with holy, righteous thinking on purpose. See Philippians 4:6-7.
Paul reminds us, don't worry about anything, not a thing, but in every single thing, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present, your request to God and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
Jen Rogers, Podcast Strategist: Every episode you create, the Lord knows the creation process. Invite him into your process. Your action item today to grow your show, to monetize your show, to enjoy sharing the things that you share and the transformation that you offer when you invite people to come into work with [00:06:00] you is this:
Sit with the Lord.
Take a few moments to journal on these few scriptures and I'll be sure to link them in the show notes so you can click on them and refer to them for your meditation time.
When we spend time with the Lord. He's so gracious to honor our time, I pray this is a sweet reflection time for you.
We know podcasting can be incredibly lonely, so let's not be lonely. Let's foster the community as I modeled for you in episode number 264, I invited you to come and book a call. Let's have a really quick conversation about whatever it is that you're working on. I can take that and help you move forward so you don't stay stuck.
And also incorporate some trainings into future masterclasses inside the virtual podcast school and incorporate some of that into the Profitable Podcast bootcamp that kicks off on May 13th If you are already registered for that, totally cool. You can definitely invite a [00:07:00] podcasting buddy!
To share the link, share this episode with them, and they can click on the link in the show notes to register.
Regarding that call head on over to coachjenrogers.com/coffeechat and book your 15-minute convo with me before the bootcamp kicks off. I'd love to connect with you ahead of time. I've got a couple calls on the schedule already. I'm very excited to meet you in person.
That's going to do it for this episode, and I will catch you tomorrow where I'm going to share one super, super simple thing you can do to get the very same thing I know you want for your show.
