Transcript

Welcome back again, ladies and gentlemen, to the axis of football, a lot of fun topics to discuss today. Week one of preseason under our belt, char another episode of hard knocks. You've got some classy, classy comments by Philadelphia Eagle, which as a cowboy fan, I don't like to admit too much, but we're gonna talk about that. Aaron Rogers and Tom Brady kind of flexing their quarterback cache. We'll talk about Heather, standing out a little bit in camp and Matt Jones doing some serious trash talk. What we think about that and what it means for the Patriots signal collar going forward, but sharp it's Wednesday. Okay. Last night was Tuesday. What does that mean? Hard knocks. Been looking forward to it all week. So let's just leave off with. Episode two, as I understand it, you fresh off the heels of, of watching it. Some things stood out to me. I think Dan Campbell was featured quite a bit to set the tone in the first episode, some other folks starting to get featured. Now, what stood out to you in episode two? I, I really liked almond Russell Brown. And maybe because I'm partial to him because he's a local kid for here from Irvine. And I'm not sure. I, I, I think my kids played against him in some camps and things like that. So there's a little bit of personal connection there. And you know, I wanted to see how he reacts and I really liked his attitude in terms of. Like he wasn't, he wasn't just blabbering. He wasn't like, he wasn't just talking. He meant what he said. And he was matter of fact, no nonsense. And these are the names of the people that were picked ahead of me. Yeah, sure. He, he had memorized the names of all 16 wide receivers taken ahead of him in last year's draft. I mean we we've seen the chip on the shoulder thing. Actually lead to results for people who, who it's real for. Right. And it seemed like it was very real for him. Yeah. It it's I mean, it kind of reminded me of Tom Brady, a little. You know, for how many years did he have the names of the quarterbacks that were drafted ahead of him in his locker? And, and I like it and, and tell you what, you know everybody knows my connection in, in fantasy football. I don't have any shares of almond Ross and brown right now, but I'm in the draft in about 15 minutes. That's gonna start I'm I'm gonna get me some shares of almond Ross on brown, because if he's got that attitude and the coaches seemed like to go to him and, and, and then, and here's what I liked about him. He wasn't, he didn't see, he's not a diva receiv. That usually can get in trouble. He is focused. He is locked in and that's what I saw. I, I saw somebody that's not gonna rest on us laurels laurels from last year, I saw a guy that wants to, you know, that, that, that wants to go out there and prove everybody wrong again. And again and again. And, and I really like, I tell you what I, I, I got lots of respect for him and, and I'm telling you more than likely I'm gonna, if he's there in the fifth round for me, I'm gonna pick him up. Well, and I feel like char there's, by the way, just how, you know, it's football season SHA is juggling between this week's podcast and a sanity draft. So hopefully we'll, we'll still get the the, the full char experience despite the fantasy draft. But but I think, as you said, sh there's seems like there's always a quote unquote, like a hard knocks pick every year in fantasy. And there's that. We all notice watching hard knocks. We think to ourselves, I really hope the guys in my draft, aren't watching hard knocks, so they don't type this guy for me. Right. And I, I feel like almond rock could be a guy like that. Maybe Deandre swift is somebody who he was actually criticized a little bit in, in that, in that last episode for not running inside, he took the coaching and he looked better in that first preseason game. But yeah, was a guy or two that you, we dubbed the hard knocks picks in fantasy. Yeah, no, I, and, and look, I I've been staying away from Deandre swift because in the area that, that, that he's been available, it's like that middle of the second round, early second round, I've been going with Aaron Jones. I've been going with Nick chop. I've been going with Leonard for, I've been going with these guys and now I'm like, wait a minute. You know, it seems like they have a vested interest in making him be great. And the way the way do Staley was talking about him had high. Yeah, so, and he's gonna be pushing him and, and, and tell you what he's you know, when, when they feel like that about him and it looked like Jamal Williams is just gonna come in and spell him, not just have it be Jamal Williams, be the starter and he's the passer, but is what I thought it was. Seems like, it seems like Jamal Williams is gonna be the guy who's gonna come and spell him and maybe be more of a 70, 30 type of a, a split. Deandre swift and Jamal Williams. Yeah, we should all see second round. I don't know, little, little rich for my blood for, for oh yeah. Well, that's what he is going Yahoo right now. Okay. Well, in any case, going back to original point of almond raw, that was a cool segment. Didn't just segment, cuz of course his brother Equin St. Brown originally drafted by the Packers now a member of the bears. So those two guys, both remaining in the NFC. Really cool piece. They did with their father who sharp two time. Mr. Universe. How about that? I mean, talk about jeans and bloodlines. You're a guy who was a football player, both of your sons played football at a very high level, so I'm sure you can appreciate that to an extent body building, obviously not quite playing in the NFL, but these two guys still work out with their dad. He works him out hard and it was just a really cool segment where they're in the gym, hitting it together and he's like, look, my boys. They don't talk to each other when they lift, cuz they know better than, than to do that. They know right. The concert. Right? Love the par star where I forget which one. I think it was Alara who was thirsty and he goes, wait, you're not drinking spit anymore. You wanna drink water? He's like, look, my son got stopped on me. He's actually wants to drink water. He used to drink spit back in the day when you were talking I was like this, this man is the old school. Right? Yeah, what? No, I, I, I, I, I enjoyed it. I enjoyed it because it kind of struck a chord with me, you know, with me and Julian and Alex, and the times that I spent coaching them and such, and it was, it was, it was kind of cool. So it definitely struck a chord with me. And and, and I, and I really enjoyed it. And, you know, I'm guessing you never told Julian or Alex to just drink their spit when they were thirsty. No. No. Is it Mike Brown or I forget what his name was, but He he's he's extra school, you know what I mean? He's extra old school, whereas whereas I'm, I'm a, I'm, I'm a little bit more I'm a little bit more like Dan Campbell, like the philosophy of like, let's be hard knows let's be, you know, but also be friendly and also be encouraging and, and You know, like you were single hydrate. I was always huge on that. Hey guys, drink your water. You know, it doesn't help for me to try to make you tough by not giving you water when it's gonna decrease your you know, your ability to get better. So it's, it's but, but he's old school. I, I, I definitely appreciate that. It reminds me of some of the coaches that I've had in the past man, as as, as my dad used to tell me back in the day, it'll put some hair in your chest, right. When somebody, I didn't really wanna feel, so I'm sure he feels the same way. Speaking of grit, char, how about the kid? Malcolm Rodriguez, sixth round pick linebacker, pick number 180 8 on the sixth round for the lion. He's really come along and, you know, he didn't just stand out in camp. He was getting some praise. That was that floored me. I think it was Aaron. Glen was talking about, there have been coaches in the, in this building in Detroit's building five, six seasons, who said they have not ever seen land backer play as impressive as Malcolm Rodriguez. I mean, that's, that's, it's one thing to say, okay, this guy gonna stick strong pink. He's got potential to make. He's gonna out. His draft status. It's a totally different thing to say. We've never seen a linebacker come through these doors and play this way. What are your thoughts on a six round pick two weeks through camp turning heads to that extent? It's great. It's, it's great to see something like that. This also struck a chord with me because in 1996, I was an undrafted free agent. You know, there was a first round draft choice that was in my position. And there was a starter from the year before that was in my position. And, you know, I kind of came outta nowhere and I kind of, we, we called those the media darlings. It seems like Rodriguez is the, the coaches, darling. I'm pretty soon he is gonna become the media darling because the media picks up on. That was, that was the case. It was tell you about it was a really good feeling. I kind of felt bad for him because I knew exactly how I was feeling because I was in that same exact position where north Turner was just really talking me up to everybody, to the whole team. And first of all, you feel, you feel embarrassed. Secondly, You feel like you're not deserving of that praise? Thirdly, pure. It puts so much pressure on me because then I'm like, everybody's watching me practice and I gotta perform and perform and perform and, and, and hopefully this young man can handle with better than I did early on in my career in 96, because it it's the, the, the pressure is overwhelming. Well, you make a great point sharp because there's a scene there. Where the linebackers coach is in the film room with all the linebackers and he's, he's just playing for everybody, Malcolm Rodriguez. And by the way, Aaron, Glen gave him the nickname. RGO right. It's probably good. How you get a nickname from, from your de coordinator. But rod Rodriguez playing his film for everybody and saying, this is how you need to play. This is the way you need to, to do the drills. And he told the entire line backing crew. The comment about coaches here who have been five plus years saying they've never seen a linebacker. Play it this way. And he's saying, I'm telling you guys this, cause y'all need to know. Okay. He's not, he's not saying it behind closed doors. He almost wanted it to be a motivation to the rest of the, or even the veterans there. But you can kinda see on, on, on Rodriguez's face, there was a sense of awkwardness and in tension there, cuz it's like, man, like I am kind of a new guy now that pressure's really on. And now these guys who are my veteran mentors are being told to play like me. It is a bit of an odd dynamic. It, it, it is because it, it creates it, it creates a little bit of a dissent within the guys. Like I, I remember when coach was talking about me like that, it's like the looks I got from some of the draft choices and the looks I got from some of the guys that were drafted the year before the offensive line. And they're like, who the hell is this free agent coming in? Now? Who's getting all this place. What the L has he done? That's so that's so special. And honestly, it's, it's one of those things where you're like, fantastic. Great. But dude, stop, please stop. Like again, I've been in that same situation. I, I was like, coach. Okay. That's all. Thank you, coach. Please go for, for the love of God, please stop talking about in front of these guys. I, I feel like obviously that becomes worse. If you start acting cocky and letting he, I guess, I guess if you were giving advice to Rodriguez as someone who went through something kind of similar. Would you just tell him, Hey man, keep your head down, stay humble. Like, like don't do anything else to, to make the situation bigger than what it is like, like what would you say to him? I know exactly what I would say to him. I would. Don't put too much stock in what people say about you, what people say about you does not define who you are and how you play because I made a mistake of, of thinking that, wow, I'm I am Mr. Washington Redskins. I'm being talked about more than anybody. And the media was all over. And I was putting so much stock. Like my identity was built on the, what the media and the coaches were saying about me. And as soon as I got benched after that first week, I had nothing, because now everybody's talking about how I got bench. How was, how was, how I couldn't handle the pressure, how, you know, I lost the game for them. And I went into, I went into a downward spiral career that, that it, and, and why, because I put so much stock in what other people were saying about me, that when they stopped saying to those good things, when they stopped, when all I could hear was that shark got beat, like a drum shark, got this shark gave up a sack. Then I was like worth nothing. It took me, it took me a good, it took me a good, I don't know, eight, 10 weeks to get outta that, to get out of that funk. And by the time I got my starting job back again, by, by weeks, I forget what week it was. Like, I, I, I, I rode the bench for like five weeks by, by weeks, six or seven. I was so nervous about making a mistake because of what people were gonna say about me instead of playing loose. And I, I just wasn't the same. That's what I would say to don't. Don't don't put any stock in what people say about you, because at the cause if you put stock in what they're saying at any point, when they change their mind, then you're worthless. You, you put, you declare in your heart and your mind what your net worth is. Not, not based on what people are saying about you. Great advice, mans your advice if Argo's listening, man you heard from someone who's been there. so, and here's the thing I, again, and I hate this. I, I don't wanna be one of those guys that always talks about himself when he talk about somebody, but this, this is an actual, this is actually something that I went through. I, I remember being a rookie free agent, so, and I got news for you being six round draft choices. At least you were drafted. I was I was an undrafted free agent. Yeah. And all of a sudden they're talking about me like this, the, the way they were and it, it just, it just creates, so I, I know what he's going through. I know what he's going through. And you could tell, he was like, he, like, he's like sitting there. He almost, I almost felt like he's trying to hide inside his his. Did you get that feeling awkward. Good. An awkward in there. Yeah. And, and it's like, dude, stop yelling at these guys. These, these guys are, some of them are my leaders. I need to like, yeah. But, but, but here's the thing though, what the coach is doing the coach, isn't saying that because of Rodrigo, the coach using Rodrigo to light of fire under his linebacker asks yeah. That's what he's trying to do. Yeah. Yeah. And he is, and he's putting him on notice. We'll see. We'll see if it works, but I get the strategy there. Other things that stood out to me, char, I mean, Barry Sanders at camp never, never gets old, seeing a legend like him out there and great. Hey, to me, the greatest running back of all time, he's phenomenal. He's a problem. He's a again, I've, I've told you how I have never in my life, I have never seen a team plan for an individual player like him. We we look, we played against Deion Sanders twice a year. All right. Deion. We had some special place for him and we had to account for him and we understood who he was, where he was. But in terms of what our defense did against Barry Sanders, it was just, I I've never seen like that. It, it was like the guys wearing a Cape out there, but, and, and look, the cuts he was making like my God, the cuts, he was just phenomenal, phenomenal player. He was like, he made a funny comment. Like, I feel like the grass was a lot taller. He was right though. He was right. It was. And you know, what was cool actually, I saw they showed a picture of, or a video of like in the 96 lions training. I don't know where it was, but like there was this giant grass field riding along like a, like, like, like a giant lake. I was like, that's kind of a pretty place. It looked like they went to a park and, and I'm like, Jesus Christ. Like, I look, I remember probably bust the middle of nowhere to get to that field, wherever that was. And this is in 96, you know, I was with the Redskins that you, we had the, like, our facility was phenomenal. Like these guys went to the local park and the grass seemed uneven and dead. I'm like, what? Where are they freaking practicing? No wonder retired early. Remember no one who retired early, man. He was sick of. He was sick of getting short change. Oh, I don't, I don't blame if, if, if that was their practice facility. Yeah. Thank God. I never had to see something like that. Yeah. Right, right. Seriously. And then I think one of the other angles they took, they featured backup backup quarterback. David blo, interesting storyline. His wife is a Colombian Olympic track star. So kind of a cool angle there, power couple in terms of both being athletes and you know, he did get his. That preseason game as backups do played well, but unfortunately had a fumble at the end of that first preseason game that, that ended the game. It costly fun destroy. It was tough. It was tough, but this is what the preseasons about, right? This is it's. It's getting the reps. My heart went out for him, man. Oh my God. I just, I was like, no, no, don't it's and oh, because, because for someone like him, this is your chance to actually play, right. I mean, he's realistically. With Jared Goff. He's probably, maybe, but like Goff would probably really have to, to I wanna say I, I don't wanna curse, but you know, wet the bed for lack of a better term for him to get in there. So likely this, this is the most action he's gonna see. And yeah, it's, it's tough when a guy prepares for that moment and then the most crucial, crucial time gives the ball back away. It ends the game first team. Yeah. He's, he's fighting for a job and look, Dan Campbell. I, God, I appreciate his honesty. And he was like, for some of you that's. And it's, he is like, I'm not trying to be a prick, but it's reality. And, and, and that, and that's right. And people don't understand the amount of pressure that's on you when you're trying to make it team like this. Yeah. It's like literally like I, I deal with people in the outside world and when they say, oh my God, you're putting pressure on me because you're looking at me and I'm like, are, are you, are you, are you kidding me? And like, how about, how about if, how about do. Or you lose your freaking job in your home tomorrow. How much pressure would that be? Like? It's, it's the immense amount of pressure knowing that you are going against another professional athlete. And if you don't get it done, and it's not just a matter of getting it done, if you get, if you don't get it done in a spectacular manner, you are out of work, you get fired and your dream is over it's. So it's my hard went out for it's a true meritocracy man. It's, it's, it's tough. It's tough. And you see other hand, you see guys that, that are lesser known and, and flash in the preseason and, and get their shot right. Where we're, you know, right place, right time. It's so much of this is, you know, I don't wanna say. But sometimes there's guys who have so much potential who go somewhere that doesn't enrich that. And you have other guys that maybe out of the gate don't have as much to give, but they get with the great team, but coaching staff and, and a, and a game plan that. You know, takes their strengths into your account and they sore past their potential. Right. So it's just so much of this is where you land, who's coaching you. And you know, we we'll find out some of these micros stories as we go through preseason, but yeah. Tough, tough. Start for David bla. Two more games. Yeah. He's gonna get another chance. Look, camp camp is long. He's gonna get another game unless if they bring it a quarterback, but here's what I got to say for him. On, on the bright side, on the bright side, I was looking at the Dallas Cowboys roster and there's a Ben UCCI as third string or fourth string. Right now I can tell David Bob that he can always go to the Cowboys and he's for sure better than, than, than, than Danny bought a Ben deci. So I, I, I have how he is still. I don't know I how even a third string quarterback, he shouldn't, he shouldn't be there. He should not be there. Our third string quarterback, my entire time with the Redskins was a man named Trent green. That was our third string quarterback. Trent green was a baller right later on. He, he, he was, he was a pro pro bowler with Kansas city UN until, you know the Alex Smith, you know, when he retired and Alex, like basically he got broken up. I know. Yeah. I don't know what it is for throughout my lifetime. The Cowboys have always shown like undying loyalty to back up quarterbacks. It's the same guy. Like you don't see a lot of, a lot of change or a lot of aggressiveness. I that's why I was shocked when they went and got Andy Dalton a couple seasons ago, that was like very uncharacteristic of them. And it turned out ironically enough that, you know, Dak got hurt that year. So it was a good move, but. They just show undying loyalty to these guys that are so mediocre. So it's, it's a little bit like, but at least, at least now he's third string. Not second string. Well he lost his, he wasn't, he wasn't second string last year. Either Cooper rush was second string, but oh yeah, he actually that's right. He played because that one year, because Dalton got. Against Washington, right? Someone, chief guy play again. I look at Ben deci. He's athletic. That's about it though. That's like, what? I don't, I don't get it. He wouldn't be good enough to play the CFO. Like how does he still have a job? And, and I sound horrible, but it's like usually out for a third string guy, he wants somebody that that's like, You know, somebody has a cannon of arm that, that, that, yeah, there's, there's some athletic ability. There's some potential there. Right. Build off of, but yeah, I, I don't, I don't know what they see in the guy, man. He was most known for playing chess with Micah Parsons in the last year's hard knocks that's about that. That was such bullshit. That's the shit that I hate. That stuff that never happens. And, and, and it's like, you know, like give. Freaking break. Like yeah. They, they probably haven't spoken to each other since that scene. Right. All right. So, so an announcement. Do I, do I take Kevin McCaffery with the, with the, with the third pick right. Christian McCaffery, Christian McCaffery. Did I say Kevin McCaffery? Yeah. Christian McCaffery. Yeah. Austin natural. And Jonathan Taylor gone. I'm pulling the trigger, buddy. I'm going, Kevin McCaffery would pick. Did we do it? Did I do it commercial one? You said Kevin again? Yeah, take him take God. Damnit Christian, Christian, Andre. Kevin McCaffrey was, was a co-head coach with me when we were coaching football. That's why I keep saying that. All right, I'm going, I'm going Christian. I thought, I thought maybe you were confusing him with Kevin McAllister from home, the kid from home alone. Right. But yeah, whatever it's done. So in any case I pulled the trigger. I got you pulled let's. Let's pull the trigger on going to our next topic. And that will be the topic of interesting quotables. Okay. We'll start char with your favorite guy, that would be Mr. Aaron Rogers coming out and making some, what many call would call critical comments about his wide receiving core look, it's no secret within departure of Devante Adams. There is a lack of what, what you might call an adult in the room, in the receiver. Over in green bay. So they've got a bunch of young guys. They drafted a couple guys, right? your boy, Romeo Dobbs actually made some plays in that first preseason game. But look overall, the group is very young and Rogers had some stern rights today, right? He said, following Tuesday's practice, we've gotta be way more consistent. A lot of drops, a lot of bad route decisions running the wrong route. We've got to get better. In those areas. And he basically was saying, Hey, if you're not doing it right, someone else is gonna get in there and do it for you. So I don't know who he was talking about. He probably had a couple specific guys in mind, but what do you think of a quarterback coming out and really in the media calling out his receivers, as opposed to maybe having this conversation behind a closed door? No problem with that. No problem with that. And people might say that I'm being. The, what is it called? Hypocrite, because I used to talk about how Russell Wilson came out and, and, and said, and said about his old line. When, when you, when you target, when you target an individual player or a few individual players in, in an, in, in an individualistic positions, such as wide receiver, he did it great. He came out and he put'em on notice without naming names. You don't know if it's one guy, two guys, three guys, four guys, five guys, whatever. Okay. And no problem with that. None. Now, if you were to name names, kuru, that's when I would. You don't need to do that. You need to go behind, you need to go away and close doors and, and have that talk with them now. And, and the difference is this is the old line is really one unit. I, I, I know it's a freaking cliche. The old line is one unit. If you, if you go and talk bad about my right tackle, I'm gonna get pissed. Okay. So you don't say that about your online because there's, there's never a more tightly knit. Then the five, then the five alignment. So it, it is basically one, one unit, one individual. So by calling out anybody in the alignment, you're calling out all of them. Okay. Whereas with receivers is different with receivers is different. So the fact that he didn't name names, it's early in camp, he can still turn on and say, Hey, our young guys have really developed well, they, they came out of it. It's it's great. It's fine. No problems with it whatsoever. I don't know if I agree with you, buddy. I don't like that. He did it in public. I think he could have made the exact same point behind closed doors. I don't see the benefit of airing it out in the media in fact. And you know, actually it seems like some of the young guys might not have a problem with him and agree with what you said. Actually Romeo adopts is one guy that basically said, Hey, he just wants us to see what he sees. And he wants us to play faster and be able to dominate and continue to be who we are. You know, so a couple of receivers have come out and made supportive comments about it. The head coach, Matt LeFlore also said, I appreciate AR urgency wanted to get this corrected. So I get that, like, you know, he made the comments and then there's his teammates and coach came out and supported them. I still don't like it. I just, you could have accomplished the same thing. Buying closed doors. I think you are Aaron Rogers. Okay. I, I, you know, you, we know Tom Brady's notorious for this of getting honest, his receivers. I just don't liked it. It was done in public. I think it was. And I think he could have gotten the exact same message across, behind closed doors. Cause how much they're gonna respect you. You're Aaron Rogers. You don't need to go to the media and do this. Who rush how much you wanna bet that sometime he camp he's gonna publicly praises receivers. How much you wanna bet. It's not about that though. I don't even care about that. It, no, no, no. My point is this, this is called, this is called basically wrangling in, you have a bunch of young receivers. You're trying to it. It's and look, receivers are a special bunch and by special, I mean, bunch of fucking divas. All right, you need, you need to have a, you need to have a tide reign on them. You need to put'em on fucking. You need to put'em on flat blast because I've seen receivers that care more about their wristbands and their towels coming out and strutting out, and then they drop a pole. They don't care. Oh, look at me. Look at, so I I've seen it all. I've seen guys like on Ross brown, that's fucking laser focused and does everything the right way. And I've seen guys that are just like, Like you're throwing your life away. You're throwing your talent away. So there is times with receivers. There is times with receivers that you need to freaking light or fire under your ass. And, and I, I did it when I was a team captain in front of everybody. I, I went out our all American receiver and, and I, I just freaking ripped them and knew one in front of everybody. Cause at the time that's what he needed. So this is called, this is like shocking people. Into submission and, and, and into order and into line. I agree. I'm, I'm, I'm gonna trust Rogers. I agree with you. I just don't like that. He did it in public. If he doesn't do it in public, it's like, they're like, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Now he said it now. He said it in, in I'm saying, he said it in private. They're gonna in one ear out the other, you don't know how receivers are these, but you're your, it's not like baker Mayfield. You're Aaron Rogers. The like, if you pull'em aside behind closed doors, They're going to respect you because of who you are. He has the cache, but not a lot of quarterbacks have. So I, I just didn't think it was necessary. I didn't that's necessary. You know, and it, it kind of comes off as a little bit complaining. We'll see, we'll see how, how it goes. I'm sure he will come out to your point and, and support them in the media. But you know, Aaron Rogers has, has sometimes been, been critical of his ownership of his coaches and his team. So it, it is kind of on brand for him, but I just thought. This is a group of young guys, you know, they're, they're probably busting their butts for'em pull, pull'em aside, pull'em aside and, and have some humility. I didn't, I wasn't a huge fan of it. You know, we'll see how it turns out full big question mark for the Packers. And we'll see, I'm gonna trust. I'm gonna trust the 17 year old veteran, the greatest quarterback that I've ever seen in my life, sort of. I'm gonna, I'm gonna trust knowing that he knows what he's doing and his ability to throw the ball is, is independent of his ability to it's handle it all. It all. No, no agreed. But that's, that's fair, but it all goes hand in hand. The fact that he can sort of all the way he does, gives him a lot of cache to do things and, and say things and have people take it the way that it's meant to be taken. So I honestly I. I don't think it's now, if he came out and said you know, Alan Luard is slacking. Hey, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Different story buddy. Right, right, right. Story. Fair, fair. He, he, here's the thing, the issue that I had with, with, with people coming to the media, the issue is basically putting people down. He didn't put any individual down. He just, you there's there's 10 receivers on that team, which ones he talking. Yeah. Yeah. That's fair. That's fair. That's fair. Yeah, look, look, I, I think ultimately the Packers are gonna be fine. Aaron Rogers is still Aaron Rogers and you know, like just like Patrick Mahomes, I think despite losing the top target, he's gonna elevate the receivers around him. I thought the comments were unnecessary, but I don't know that it has any kind of a long-term impact on their success. I think they're gonna perform the way they're gonna perform, regardless of whether he made the comments or not. So it is, and your boy Romeo Dobb slashing a little bit in that first game, right? Hey, no, no baby. No, it was, it was right after the draft that, that I said, I promise you this young, man's gonna open some eyes and he's gonna contribute. And, and look after the draft, what did I say? I said, I GU I guarantee that he's gonna have what, like 30, 40, 50 catches some, something like that. I forget what it. Is and yeah. Hey, three, three catches 45 yards, including a 33 yard touchdown and a bombing. The kid, the kid look, kid look good. And we see this. Sometimes, sometimes you see that teams will draft a coup the same position across a couple different rounds. And sometimes the lower draft pick ends up. Hey buddy, 4, 5, 5 years ago was Aaron Jones and Jamal Williams, Jamal Williams was taking the third round. Aaron Jones was taking the fourth or fifth round. And you know, how about, how about Kurt cousins? RG three. I mean, Elijah Elijah year, that happens all the time. So, so we, we shall see, we shall see char let's, let's go to a part of the game that's near and dear to your heart. And that. Battle in the trenches look, Eagles, interior alignment, rookie Jordan Davis, outta of Georgia. This guy was, was an absolute monster in college. All indications thus far of this kid is he is the real deal. I mean, he looks like an absolute monster. I know there's saying he's a two down player and all that, but I mean, this guy's a force and a clip recently came out in training camp of him going. Lineman cam JINS and in this clip, it kind of went viral. He just grabs them and just pushes him back in good 10 yards and really, really dominates him. And the clip went viral. And so they asked Jordan Davis, Hey, what did you think of the clip that rep and all the notoriety it's gotten? Here's what Jordan Davis had to say. I hate it, honestly, you know I just feel like it's shows it is very one-sided, you know, you see one rep and, but you don't see cam just, you know, blocking me and, you know, getting me at practice and, you know, getting me in the other rep. So, you know I always say, you know, looks can be deceiving. So you know, one rep and it goes viral, whatever whoop woo. But, you know, cam is holding his own. He is a very good player and it's just good competition. It's iron on iron. So, you know, you see the background of everything, but don't let the, don't let the hype get to you. Okay. I'm not an Eagle fan. I'm a cowboy fan. I dislike the Eagles immensely. I like this kid, man. I like this kid that was pure class. I love what he had to say. How he defended his teammate immediately talked up his teammate and talked about how he hates that, that things that go viral. Aren't always indicative of, of what's real. I was a big fan of the comments. What did you think? I, you, you know how sometimes when people. Are modest and say modest things and say all the right things, but you see there's an underlying ego behind it. You know, you know what I'm talking about? Yeah. Like it's not genuine, right. There was absolutely zero of that in this, this kid was genuine. He meant it. He is humble. He is classy and, and beyond all that he's 100%. Right. Do you know that it. I wouldn't be, it wouldn't be out of the realm of feasibility that if they, if they went again, the kid that just got bull rushed back would, would pancake him, stuff like that happens in one-on-one drill. Stuff like that happens in one-on-one drills and, and I'm, I'm, I'm really not looking much at how look, I, I really don't care about the fact that he took the kid back because you see that happen all the time. I was taken back, I was thrown on my ass plenty times and I've done that to other people. That's not the relevant part, the, the big indicator in what the Eagles have. Underline is a guy that's grounded. The guy that's mature, the guy that's humble and a guy that's backing up his teammates. So I listen, kudos, kudos. My man, I, I, I was extremely, extremely impressed with that young man. Yeah. I mean his talent we knew was there seems like he's also a hell of a character guy and a good locker room guy and, and just. He's a rookie man. That's the, the maturity of those comments. That's early on. You got, you gotta be impressed if you're an Eagle fan in that, right? No, absolutely. I I'm just impressed. And I'm a fan of his I'm, I'm a fan of his, so I mean, that's what I'm saying is, is, you know, it's hard for me. To have any kind of positive feeling towards Eagles. But look at the end of the day, the league is comprised of humans. He seems like a damn good one. And so it's hard for me, not, not, not to root for that and admire that even as a cowboy, absolutely Philly got themself, a good one, seemingly so, and look so, so sportsmanship, one of the most beautiful things, man. It's what I try to teach my son. I, you know, even though you're competing against somebody at the end of the day, you go shake their. You recognize them, you honor, you honor your opponent. Right. And it's a, it's a beautiful part about sports and great to see it exuded at the highest levels here by, by a rookie at that. So Hey man, maybe just have a great, great career, except when you're playing on the Cowboys twice a year and we'll, we'll call it a day. On, on the other side of that, Charlotte's actually go to a situation that was pretty much the exact opposite of what we just talked about. And that would be a comment. By Mac Jones. Right? So the, the, the Patriots in Jaguars are going through joint practices, like many teams do with each other this time of year in training camp. Right. And we like to do it because it shows kind of like, you know, how are we doing against other competition when we don't know the coaching side of the other players? How do we look? And it gives teams kind of an, an added layer of how to evaluate their players in training camp. So the Patriots and Jaguars are in these joint practices together. Mac Jones. I don't know what the context was. Right. But M Jones through a touchdown pass receiver, Taquan Thornton. Okay. And as he's running up the field, he turns to the defensive end for the Jaguars. Brian Burns and says, quote, hold my nuts, little B. And that led to a massive brawl between, between both teams. I think burns, pushed Jones afterwards, and that led to some punches and whatnot. Maybe these guys were going back and forth prior to that. And som the emotions came out for Mac Jones you know, not very QB one like behavior, but we talk about Jordan Davis's comment. Now you see this what are your thoughts seeing, seeing Mac Jones say that kind of a trash talk in training camp to uh, the other. I, I gotta be honest with you. I liked it. I, I liked it because you talked about quarterbacks having some dirty in them. Right. You've always talked about that. I've always, I always, you know, I want a little dog in them. I want, I want a little dog in my skilled players. Okay. And there's a difference between being classy with your teammates and be an absolute shit monger with your opponents. So I like that. I, I, I like that he does that and I like that he did it, but the first thing that came to my mind, I wonder what the repercussions with bill, bill shakes is gonna be with him because keep in mind, bill, bill shake was a guy that he hated Rex Ryan, yet he suspended and find the white receiver, the white, white receiver, the short guy west Walker. Yep. When, when he kept, when he kept making. Remarks about feed, like, you know, innuendos that had with feed in him about re trying. This is like going back 6, 7, 8 years ago. And he suspended him. He suspended him and he find him, you know, bill ick doesn't suffer any fools. So I really wanna know what the repercussions are gonna be because I, I would be shocked. I would be shocked if there are no repercussions. And here's the thing he's not gonna address the media. You're probably, you're probably gonna see Mac Jones go out. I don't know. Maybe not even play or go out, but like do do so do something that's gonna put him in his place. You would think. Cause it it's a very umbrella check in, right. Never give the other team reason to be motivated and, and give them both and board material. Obviously this is a, this is a joint practice in training camp, but still right. You wanna instill those values in your team so that when the season starts, they don't think that's that it's okay. And yeah, it's just, it's not something like, that's something that I could see maybe a running back or a receiver saying in the heat of the moment. Not a lot of times hear a quarterback talk that way. Right? Yeah. I was honest to God. I was shocked. I was shocked that that, that he said that and he, and he went there and and I liked it. I liked it. And I love the fact that the team's got in the fight. You know, it, it happens. We got in a huge bra with the dolphins in 96 when Larry Zo tackled our, our, our star running back to the ground, Terry Allen. And, you know, it was a brawl that lasted 35 minutes and, and it was great. It was great because you came out of it as a team. So you know, sometimes these fights. Bring people out, guys, you might not like your guy next to you. You might be with him for a guy. This is like the fourth week of training cabin. And fuck, I can't stand this guy. I can't stand. I don't like looking at him. I don't like the way he eats. I don't like the way he laughs and, and, you know, and, and then all of a sudden you get in a team brawl and, and I'm, there's nothing like a team brawl, like a ballroom bra that will bring guys together. Yeah. That usually wouldn't be together. Do, do you see what I. Yeah. Yeah. That's, there's a bit of silver lining, cause it builds a little camaraderie between the guys potentially as well, right? Oh, absolutely. Especially for your old line. I, I highly recommend, I highly recommend that the offensive line go, go and getting a really good brawl together where they're getting, you know, now where they're mopping the floor with people where they're actually getting hurt together. I that's, you know, and that's part of the training camp. When the coaches put you through. That's what, that's, what brings you closer together because you're sharing in misery, so, oh yeah. You know, it's it's Hey, I, I like it. I like it. I don't know what bill Belichick thinks, but as a football player and as a football coach, I like it. I expect him to address it. We probably won't hear about what the repercussions are, but I'd imagine that that Mac Jones probably will get some kind of a talking to by his coaching. But nevertheless, definitely some hilarious, I, I couldn't believe it was a real quote when I read it. Until I realized, yes, it was very real and it came out of his mouth. Speaking of, of be at quarterbacks. Last thing we'll, we'll end with char Tom Brady, Tom Brady taking a 10 day break in the middle of training camp. He'll be back in camp in like three days. So on August 11th, it was announced by Todd Bowles that Tom Brady is gonna be stepping. For 10 days to address a personal matter. This is something that actually was pre I don't think it's a serious thing. Cause it sounds like it was actually discussed and agreed upon even prior to the commencement of training camp. Of course I think we both agree. He's earned the right to do this. He's Tom Brady. He's the go all of that stuff. Any thoughts though, in terms of how it impacts the team? How his teammates might view him continuity wise, productivity wise for his teammates. What do you think of this? And if you could put yourself, maybe in that situation as a teammate of his, how would you feel if your star quarterback did something like this in camp? No big deal, or could it affect a morale in continuity? No big deal whatsoever. He's earned the right and you know, it's much to do about nothing. I remember my second or third year with the Redskins, my, one of my dearest friends God rest his soul. Dan Turk, our long snapper you know, he comes into our meeting like after, after we went out on the special teams meeting and, and I guess he had left to go lunch and he went and hit golf balls with his wife and came back and came back to the meeting. And I look at him like, and Russ grim literally sees him walking in and nods at him and says, Hey how's it going, Dan? And Dan's like, ah, Hey RAA, how's it there. And I'm are you? But he goes, I was hitting some balls. I'm like, are you and Russ goes 14th in 14th year in the league shark when you are there, you know what? And you're still here. I'll, I'll let you go hit some golf ball. So put your. Pay attention. Okay. That's exactly what came outta real script. All right. So, so, so there is a bit of hierarchy involved in being able to do something like this. Oh, look, Tom. Brady's been there. What? 20? Like, are you kidding me? That's 20. Yeah, I think it C season 22 per right now coming up, Tom Brady is, has played longer in the NFL than some of these people have been on planet earth. Yeah. At this point. You're right. OK. Thank you. So, so come on now. On the same token if Tom Brady struggles, which I don't see how he would or how he could, if at the odd chance that they struggle out the gate and he's not playing well, the fact that he did this will come to question. Well, there's all fact it's that the Miami, the Miami I was, yeah, this there's a couple things right there. Oh, Kuro, all those things. Will come into questions because the, the, the elixir of life in the NFL, the, the portion of healing in the NFL is winning. Yep. Is winning it, forgives everything, it smooths over everything and it heals everything. So Again, I don't think that Tom Brady is obviously gonna come and have a, have a hard time with anything, but Hey, if, if there's a, you know, that lottery, you know, if the 1% of the 1% or the 1%, if that actually happens, then then, then we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll see it coming out up, but I sincerely doubt. So you would think at some point the guys do for regression, but, but yeah, I, I agree that he's got the cache. Not just based on years played, but level of performance to do something like this. But Hey man, sports narratives and, and headlines, the media runs with is a very real thing. So it would not shock me. Like at some point, Tom, Brady's not gonna have a great game. We're a great stretch. It's inevitable, right? I'm sure. Notice it's it's not him. Huh? It's it's beyond just having a bad stretch or bad game. It's if they're losing and they're three and four, four and three, and Tom Brady's thrown three pick sixes, three games in a row, you know, then, then that's then that's. But I could even still see, let's say the bucks are winning, but Brady's playing poorly. Well, the team Ron is playing well is, is Tom's head in the game. He's he wanted to go to Miami. He took the autonom Fran. I could still see them making his story out of that. And I think, I think at some point you'll see this, the, the media. Yes. The media. Yes. But you're not gonna hit hear grumblings out of the team. Right. Right. I mean, you would. Yeah. And you would say, okay, I'm not, I'm not trying to look. I'm not talking about what the media, the media's gonna say what the media's gonna say. I'm talking about grumblings coming outta the team. That's what I'm talking about. That's fair. That's fair. But you know, Tom, Tom, Brady's a guy who I think will come in when he does come back quickly earn the respective of his teammates or if, oh, no, he's gonna, I think he positive, but just, you know, remind them, this is who I am. Oh, no, no, no. He's Tom, Tom Brady in these 10 days that he's missing, he's completely forgotten how to throw the ball. And he's completely forgotten how to read defenses and call plays. This is the biggest fucking tragedy ever. I guarantee this was no personal issue. This was a fucking hot and humid and you know what? I need to rest my legs. That's what it is. Yeah. Yeah. And, and look, I mean, it's actually kind of surprising that he hasn't really done something like this earlier in his career. It's it's, you know, I mean, you would think at some point, you know, 15, 16, 17, 20 year event you'd be able to take time off. So I, I agree much to do about nothing me he's gonna do what they do. But we'll see. We'll see. I mean, I think it remains to be seen if he really wanted to go somewhere else. Not he's taking time off. I I'm interested to. You know, all we gonna see is slightly less enthusiastic, Tom Brady, cuz he expected to play for a different team, remains to be seen. I will never bet against the guy. But it is something that I think keep an eye on as the season comes near. Yeah. It it's it's much to do about nothing. It's gonna be fun. It's freaking Tom Brady. It's it's it's like he's he is in his own. He is in his own classification and tier there's it's Tom Brady. And then all the other hall of Famers, the guy, the guy is the greatest winner of all time. The guy is gonna do everything he can do in a super bowl. So come on. Let's, let's people, people need to freaking get a life. And, and, and, and I mean, like, it's like, I feel like the media, when they talk about shit, like this is like a bunch of fucking vultures around a dead baby gazelle that align just tore up. It's like, give it a fucking rest, dude. It's fucking Tampa. It's hot and humid. Leave the man alone. He's won more super bowl rings than every single fucking franchise in the NFL in 23 years. Leave it. Well, I feel like what, what have I told you? I brought this up just to hear you. Prop up Tom Brady cuz makes me feel good. OK. See, so you do speak of a Tom Brady hater just cause I think air is the better quarterback. I just enjoy. When you, when you, when you speak highly of him, it makes, it gives me, it gives me, it gives me internal peace. I hear I not give you enough love kuru. Is that what it is? Do I need to fly to Alice and, and hold your tiny head on my shoulder and, and pat you down? Is that, is that, is that what you're telling me? I need to do, I mean, look, I wouldn't be upset if you did all those things. Let's let's, you know, you've always got a place here, buddy. Oh, and, and the, and the Savi compound, the 12,000 square foot mansion on, on exactly acres in, in Arlington. I I've got a Portish wing. That's got your name all over it, buddy. So yeah, I want the wing. That's closes to the Jerry Jones compound. I know you got it. You got it, buddy. You got it. Listen, dude. I'll, I'll let you get, I'll let you finish this answer. Draft up by the way, one thing to note it just dropped four minutes ago. Melvin Gordon saying that even though the team split carries between him and GTE Williams last year, that he think. The team wants GTE to be the guy. So that might influence a draft pick for you later on. And then no, I'm I'm, I'm already, I'm already on round 13. Okay. And I really pissed. Some son of a bitch took took Michael Thomas from me. I was gonna, I was gonna come and pick him up in the. In the sixth round and, and, and they picked him up, sniped him right under my face, and I'm really pissed off. So yeah. Look, it's not, I was looking forward to getting Michael Thomas it's. It's not until you get sniped by somebody, so yeah. But you know, tell you what though. I, I got me Nick ch in the I got me Nick ch in the third round CD lamb in the second round. I went early with Travis, TN and AJ di and Chris Gowin and Elijah Moore. I'm I'm looking pretty good. Jalen hurts looking pretty good. I haven't gotten as into the fantasy as probably I should, but Hey, some, some, some good names you're tossing out here and we got week two. We, what we didn't even get too far as much was the preseason action. We'll talk more about that. Next week. We'll have two weeks of preseason under our belts, and we'll talk about some trends that we're seeing among these, these players. Some young quarterback play that's out there, so right. Go to it next week, buddy. More of that more hard knocks, more NFL preview. Dude, we're three weeks away. I'm gonna start over the season. Yes, sir. I'm looking at my chapter. Yes, sir. Let's keep this going. Absolutely. And here's the thing really, there really isn't much to talk about in season. I remember first preseason game of the year was we would go out there for one series and basically just get a live hit with, with rev on the field. That's all it was it's it's the week three it's week three that's most important dress rehearsal. Yep. Yeah, we'll pick it up, man. Always a pleasure until next week, sir. We'll talk soon. Absolutely. Thank you my friend.
