Welcome back to the axis of football week two, officially upon us as the chargers, fall to the chiefs last night on Thursday night football in a whole slew of interesting games ahead for us to talk about a lot of teams looking to bounce back after lackluster week one performances. But sure. Before we dive into that, let's talk about the app were mentioned. Chargers, your chargers, visiting the chief. Thursday night football. What a dandy of a matchup in this first Thursday night game, we get this season and look the narrative here. Chargers, jump out to an early 10, nothing lead chiefs, hang tough and they come back and really take control of this game star off the back of a Patrick, excuse me, off, off the back of a Justin, her. Pick six that was thrown in the fourth quarter and that really gave the chief's control of the game. And then the chargers just really were not able to move the ball much in the fourth quarter, beyond the final drive. That really, I don't wanna say it was meaningless, but the game was, was had a very slim chance of being won. At that point in time, the other story coming outta this one, char Justin Herbert suffering rib contusion. He's considered day to day. The good thing here is he's got a week and a half of rest till the next game for them, but that's something to monitor, certainly going forward. He showed a lot of courage playing on that, on that on that on that rib. But what did you think of this one, man? What was your thought coming out of this 1 27 24 Kansas city. The final. It was, it was a, it was a great game. It literally you know, the, the Kansas city was favored by four. I wonder how much the, the keen and Allen not being there affected that. I'm sure. I'm sure keen and Allen would've been worth a couple more points in, in that game. So who knows how it could have gone? And honestly, I mean, remember me when, when you kind of got mad at me last year when the chiefs were losing and I kept saying, they're getting UNL. I was saying they're getting unlucky. Their defense is actually better. Everybody is actually playing well. Mahomes is the homes is just playing bad. They're just getting unlucky. And then I said the fact that all those times that they were winning all those, all those years behind, they were getting like, they were like, the luck was going their way. Luck was luck is in the favor of the chiefs. LA last night, I'm telling you there was what, two or three interceptions. That were called back and dropped well, you, but you were the one sh who a couple years ago, when, when I was saying Patrick homes leads the league in balls that were almost intercepted, you didn't seem to think that meant he was lucky. Right. But, but no, I, I, I, I told you last year, I said all those years where the chiefs were going on on roles, they were, they were getting very fortunate, all those balls that they were throwing. And remember, we had this argument when they were three and four or two and three, and I kept. They were unlucky. And I said, they're not that much different than the teams that were going on, all those streaks. And and look for fortune fortune can, can can favor the, the strong sometimes, I guess, but but they got very lucky. They got very lucky three, I think three or four interceptions that were either dropped or called. By penalty negated by penalty. Yeah, there was, yeah, there was one as Santi Samuel one that was a little bit controversial. That ended up getting overturned. There was one in the end zone also, right in as Santi Samuel, he played, played it beautifully. And couldn't, couldn't hang on to it next play chief scores. So yeah, it was definitely missed opportunities there for the chargers. I, you know, I don't know if you saw my text. I, I texted you right after this game ended last night and. I actually, I'm very bullish on the chargers after this game. I, I know. No, you are now I'm I, I love what I saw out of them. Sure. And I know it's in a loss, it's almost kind of like, you know, the way, couple years back when the buck lost to the chiefs at home. Right. And you said that second half actually asked me feeling better about the books. I'm getting a similar feeling. About the chargers. Like their defense is really good. Really? Oh, phenomen. Like, you know, and, and maybe a lot of the country didn't get to watch this game last night, because now these Thursday night games are exclusively on Amazon prime, which I have Amazon prime, but it's still in movie because like, I, I used to watching it on cable and I like the remote settings and the fast forwarding and, and the, the way it records and all that. So I'm, I'm, I'm a creature of habit. I don't like having to learn a new routine. But anyway, but I think for those who didn't get to watch the game, cuz they're not prime members. This is the, it's only a hundred bucks. It's only a hundred bucks a year and you get all your Amazon shipping for free. Give me a, yeah, I got listen, man. I'm on a first name basis with Amazon driver in our neighborhood. Cause this guy at our house, like, you know, three times a day, well, I'm telling you my girlfriend every, every day and Angelina sends me a text saying do we have any packages coming in? And, and God knows what, what she's ordering. So yeah, I used to, I, I used to go. Look at the, the purchase history. And be like, do we need that? I, I, I gave up, I just, I stopped. And I go in and, you know, and I go and pick up the packages and, oh, it's a nail Polish remover and it's some kind of an organizational box and, and I get so pissed off and I tell her, and, and I said, If I ever go home, pick up Amazon boxes that are not mine, I'm gonna, I'm gonna return them. So now she's so now yes, no man. She's she's she text me, she preempts it. She's like, honey, I just want you to know there's gonna be Amazon boxes coming in. Don't pick. Pick him up. They, they were, I have a question for you who, who picked, who picked them to win to win AFC rest you did. And who picked him not to make the playoff. I did, did I, did, did I think I take the playoffs though? Did I say no playoffs? Yes. And, and, and you pick, you picked him to take third. You picked to take third. Let, let, let explain though. Okay. I think it's number one. Asti Samuels a hell of a player. I know we just talked about him having two interceptions. He is a hell of a corner. Okay. His dad was a great player. His dad was a, and by that time I'm getting old because I watch his dad when I was in college. And now his son's playing. I'm played against his dad. That's how, I'm how old I am. but that's one, right? I mean, in this game, I know he said like week one was all about CLE Mac boa. Boa came. Boa came out and you saw the problems they can create when they're both playing at a high level. That's scary. JC Jackson did get beat on a deep touchdown. When I think it was 84 Watson on the chiefs, it was a phenomenal throw by my homes. I mean, like if you saw that play, like Jackson was like, literally, probably like a, a quarter of an inch from getting his stinger on that ball. It was, it was an incredibly place play throw. I'm not putting stock in that. Samuel. I mean, they just have players in Derwin, James man coming up, playing the pass in the run that defense. I mean, I know we talk about it in the off season. They got a lot of good players. Can they put it together? That is not hype. This defense is going to be a problem. They held the chiefs to just 20 points, two touchdowns chief in mind pick six, six. That was hundred yards long. Oh yep. Exactly. Ex yeah. So 20th. So, so seven of those points were pick six. I am Justin Herbert. I mean this guy with, to your point without Keenan Allen just was sensational. They need to be more dynamic on offense. They really do. He averaged 3.8 yards per attempt, or sir, per, per completion last night, like you, you cannot do that in the NFL with talent, like Herbert that's that's malpractice to me, they've gotta get her. The ball, he played preseason soon. I think he only had two passes travel, 17 yards or more last night. And that, and that's, that's, that's criminally insane. Are he kidding? Mely insane. And I mean, he and he cracked his rib, came back, made he made so many incredible throws this team when it gels when keen and Allen is back in the lineup, once they get a chance to settle in, I, I know. The chargers they see, oh, this is another example. The chargers being the chargers. I don't believe that. I think this wasn't a game. They got unlucky, they got unlucky. They, they on the cusp of turning the corner. I really believe this. And I'm not. I'm the first one to always make fun of the chargers. This is a different team. Like, like I made that prediction before wa obviously before the season, This you're allowed to change your you're allowed to change your boat right now. It's early enough team it, you know, it just pass the eye test. It passed the eye test, but do you think they'll beat the Broncos? Do you think they'll their bread and the Broncos? Here's the proclamation that I made last night to some friends of mine. I said, book it right now. The chief's season will end before the charger season. The chargers will. I'm saying it right now. The chargers will advance further in their season than the chiefs. I'm saying, I believe it. I got, well, here's the thing. I, I charges, I think a game where they say, okay, we can hang with the big dogs. Well, I, I think they already knew that because last year they beat him and then they beat him at home and then they gave the game away. Remember they gave the game away at the end of the year to the, the chiefs. They should have beat. And now their team's better. I'm looking at the defense man for me, it's the, for me, it's the defense. Of course. I'm assuming Herbert's gonna do his thing. The part that broke my heart, man, that pick six, the hundred yard pick six dude. It was like Gerald Everett wanted so unfortunate. You're right. I blame that on the coaches. I blame that on the coaches, they were running a hurry up offense. They just completed a 33 yard pass to Gerald Everett down to like, what was it? The seven, seven yard line or something. And Gerald Everett. It was a long catch. And. The play after the play, he was singling. Hey, like, like get me out. Somebody else come in. Right. And because they're running a hurry up, it was like, no, just, just, Hey, one more play. And of course it's Gerald Everett who Herbert intends that passport. He runs a sloppy route. Doesn't really cut off the defender. And it's, it's the other way, a hundred yards. I mean, that was just so it's unfortunate, man. Like. It seems ever ran the wrong route. Like, like Herbert was throwing it inside and that's did wrong. Ran sloppy, ran loppy, ran, sloppy, ran. He was. And it's like either you, so who do you blame on that? Who do you blame on that? I don't think it's on Herbert, because like that's approaches when you're the quarterback and you're analyzing a play, like you're just throwing to the open guy. You're not thinking in that moment. Well, Everett is tired. You're just saying, okay, that, that route's open. I'm gonna throw it. And I think the thing is char, I actually don't know who you can blame. It's just, it's unfortunate. The guy who's, who was gas on the previous play, ran a sloppy route and ended up in a, like how many times is that scenario gonna end up in a pick six? It was just, it was just like one of those like one and a hundred type situations that just bit him, bit him in the worst way. Like, I don't even know. I think that, I think that coaches were right for going hurry up. I might have stuck a run there. Maybe you was thicker running there on that first down and gets a, a cheap four or five yards and gets you to the three yard, two, three yard lines, or, or, you know, what, or, or, or cheap Everett to help block say he doesn't. You can call plenty of plays like that. All right. So, so, so I, I blame the coaches then I blame just, I blame Justin Herbert, because he's the quarterback, he's the field general you should know. But this is my question to you is why do you, like, why did you give crap for saying that the chief got lucky to win? But now you're telling me all these, like, we talk about four interceptions that should have been interceptions that. That didn't become interception. And then a 12 point play a 14 point play. I'm not giving you crap about, I'm not giving you crap. I think you're absolutely right. I'm just saying there was a point where I was pointing out, I think a year or two ago where like Mahomes led the league involves that were almost intercepted. And it seemed like you didn't think you were like, well, look, well, they didn't get intercepted. So that's, that's all that matters. No, I don't remember what my mind process was at at that time. But if you tell me that at the end of the year where Mahomes led the league in, in poorly, you know, in, in, I think it's what it's called turnover place. That's my point being well at the end of the year, it didn't happen. So what, you know, you know, he's great. He's so great that I still believe in him. That's that's what it's, but. I said it last year to you. I said that the chiefs were getting lucky when they were going on all those win streaks. I said that I, on this show, I said that on this show, I said that they got lucky to get, but tell you what their defense is better though. Their defense is better, but I, I don't even care. Like, like the chiefs might win the division. The chargers are going further. The chargers are going further. Like I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm playing it right now. The funny thing about Patrick Mahomes too, I saw somebody say today, That, that Josh Allen and Justin Herbert have gotten more credit for almost beating Mahomes than Mahomes has got for beating them. That's very true. I mean, but it's not about, it's not about almost beating Mahomes. I think it's the way they played in those games. Right. And, and like, it's a team sport at the end of the day, right. It's team sport. But, and that's why actually what I'm saying is it's not even about Justin Herbert, like Justin Herbert. We know he is sensational, this, this game. Showed me the potential that the chargers defense has. And I, I, it just, it's a different team. I know that. I know it's like, oh, same old chargers. Well, this is a different football team. It is. It is. And I know it's, I'm saying it as a, before it's actually happened, but I really, I don't know, man, I just, I've got a feeling. This is the point where we turn the corner with the charger. So we'll see, man. I have a question for you. Great game. Yep. My question is this, did you notice that how I picked the chargers to win the division yet? My super bowl pick was Kansas, Kansas city winning the AFC. Did you not, did you, did you not notice that? I mean, I don't blame you for not noticing you're saying yeah. You're saying the opposite of what I'm saying. Basically I'm saying, because I initially, when we're doing our, our divisional predictions, I said that I said the charge was gonna. But then I said, I picked the chiefs to win the AFC reason being, because I'm counting on Andy Reed, outsmarting Brandon, sadly in the playoffs, assuming they they've played in the playoffs. Yeah. Well, even if they don't, even if they don't the, the experience of Andy Reed and, and making the right decisions. At some point he is gonna win him a game and any experience, you know what I saw, I saw a guy who is allergic to running the ball. I mean, the chiefs were throwing it on a third down with the clock running to try and ice the game. Like it was incomprehensible to me that, and Andy Reid, he's a great, he does figure out when he's supposed to run the ball. It's it's unbelievable. And Andy Reid has a tendency of being allergic to running the ball. Absolutely. And, and I think that's gonna. I think that's gonna bite him. So, but you know what? That's, that's cool. That's, that's, that's a fair point, but, and another point on greatness of Patrick Mahomes, if we take, I was looking at it, if we take the best receivers, if you make an Allstar team from the AFC west, right. And his, his receivers. Wouldn't even make 13 AFC west, like you got all these great receivers from, you know, you got Ken and island, Mike Williams, you have dev Adams, you have Jerry Judy squad. My point is that my point is that he doesn't have the weaponry that the other quarterbacks have is great. He is. And yet to your point that that others are being ch you know, are like Josh Allen and, and. And, and Justin Herbert are, you know, they're getting credit for almost beating him. So I I'm basically saying to credit. Yes. But where I disagree with that is he, cause he's got Travis, Kelsey, that's a, that's kind of a, that's a huge deal. So I mean, I don't know. He, and he's had Kelsey and he, all of his career basically. So like, you know we'll see, we'll see. I still think, and the homes is incredible, but I think this is, this is the year the chargers turned the corner. I really believe that. So it's, it's one game. Speaking of other games, char let's go to the rest of the week too. Cause we, we got a lot to talk about some interesting matchups, right? We've got, we've got a couple of categories of games. We've got some, just some solid, interesting matchups and we've got potential bounce back games for teams that that could be in some hot water if they don't turn around in a hurry. Right. So let's start with dolphins, Ravens. Okay. This is an interesting one because you've got two teams coming. Solid week one wins, right? Obviously, no, one's gonna, no, one's gonna do a victory parade for the Ravens beating the jets week one, but it wins a win. And Mike McDaniel, obviously a really nice week, one victory against the vision rival in England Patriots. This is now the dolphins playing, playing formidable PO they go, they go on Baltimore. And I think this is where to his arm gets put to the test here. What do you think happens. Look that that defense came out screaming against Patriots. But I'm not a firm believer in the Patriots talent level. I, I only think, I just think they have, you know, the best coach ever. But regardless they came, they came out, they came out and, and played phenomenally. But, but still, I, I, I have to go, I have to go with the, with the, with the Ravens. I just, even though that they're missing their running. It's it's one of those things. Maybe, maybe it's, you know, it's, it's too detriments. Their best back is Lamar Jackson and, and he's, he's he's little too good. Well, he's always been their best back, but, but yeah, but, but now he's alone. So I, I, I don't know. I I I'm just I, I, I have, I have to go with B. I, I just think they're, they're just a very complete team and, and they're different. They're they just look, even though last year, didn't Miami just go up to Baltimore and just absolutely spanked them. Do you remember that Miami spanked Baltimore? Oh my God. They came out and they just crushed Baltimore last year. Was it last year before? Yeah, it it's it was ridiculous. I'm I'm game was last year, they won 22 to 10. That was in Miami. It looks like you're right. Yeah. And, and, and their defense and, and Miami defense were like two defensive touchdowns, but, but last year's Raven's thing was a shell of itself, man. Right. They weren't helping anywhere. Right. So here's the thing you got their left tackled? I think it's says sta and I think this was one by the way where, where the, I think the dolphins pulled TOA and Jacobi Burett came. And and I dunno if say he won the game, but, but he, you know, they, they, they actually benched to a, in that particular game. Right. So make make of that what you will, but yeah, I, I tend to agree with you. I just think I'm going with the proven bursting unproven. I agree with you that the Patriots aren't ultra talented it's week one. I it's a great first win. I don't put a ton of stock in it, meaning I don't think all of a sudden Miami's a major contender nor do I think the Patriots are out of it because of that game. I think this is a, a situation where they're going on the road to a very proven team, proven coach. And this is gonna be a tough, really tough matchup for them. You know, Mike McDaniel does have a ton of momentum. And confidence though. He should have confidence coming into this game. And I, I, I've got a little bit of inside insight into into, into him in the dolphin. So one of the members of my team is very good friends with Mike McDaniel and his wife, and they actually were at the game in Miami. This past weekend for his first game as a, as a head coach. And I don't know if you recall, after the game Tyre hill had mentioned that coach McDaniel, he went for in a couple four downs coach McDaniel needs a wheelbarrow to carry around and you know, his, basically his, his balls in because of the fortitude he showed in that game. And so I was talking to talking to my coworker this week and I was told that. Several friends of Michael McDaniel are pitching in to send him a wheelbarrow because of that quote I said put some, put some walnuts in there too, just to be put, just add extra, extra layer put on there, but but look, so, I mean, as good as start as you can have as a head coach, but yeah, I see this one as I, I still don't like to, and I think this is gonna be a game that it's probably gonna expose to a little. I possibly. Yeah, like you can only scheme so much and you've got a ton of talent between gel and wa Tyreke and all these great backs. You can always scheme so much. So my interest in this game is not so much just Miami win. I want to see how tu plays in this game and cuz I mean he had a couple really ugly one hoppers and just, you know, like just some throws and make you scratch your. In that first game, like he's gotta clean that stuff up. So that's what I'm looking for. But I, yeah, I think, I think this is Baltimore and I can honestly see Baltimore taking this one by probably probably a touchdown is what I say to the margin. Oh really? And this game is, yeah, I do. I think so. Miami's defense is good now. Miami's defense is good. What I, what I'm, what I really think is gonna play out in this game. I don't think Miami's offense is gonna be dynamic enough to stay on the field for long periods of time. And I think the Ravens are gonna control the clock. and that really talented, but eventually's just gonna get tired. Right? I think that's, you'll see, you'll see. In mid, you know, second half the Raven starts to move the ball a little bit better. I think that's how the games kinda kinda goes. Now here. Here's here's my, my thing. I got a lot of crap on Instagram, about my picks last week and my bets. What have I always said to you? Do, do I bet the first three, four weeks of the season. I don't reason is because I need to see how these teams play, especially with the likelihood pre-season. So I didn't make any BES last week. The only exceptional bet that I made is I was going, I was going to my friend's house. Okay. And I ended parlay bed for the Rams, which is just basically a fun bed. You know, as a gambler, you don't wanna make parlay beds. The only bet I'm making this. I'm betting on the greatness of Aaron Rogers, which is coming up later on, but I'm not betting anything this week. So everything that I'm giving you, EV every piece of one of my picks that I've given you take it with a grain of salt. Cause we have incomplete information. We have incomplete information. So this game, this game can go either way. But when in doubt, when in. I bet on coach and I bet on quarterback and who's got the better coach and who's got the better quarterback, Mr. SPBI hands down. It's Baltimore, it's Baltimore, Baltimore. It, it's not an indictment on Mike McDaniel, by the way. No, but, but no, you're, you're talking about people. You're talking about resume and accomplishments at this at this moment in time. There's no question that lives with Baltimore. You have guide that's that's kind like I, I put him in the same regard as, he's. No, nobody's bill Bellick, but, but you know, Mr. Harborough coach har the same as Mike Tomlin. Yeah. John Payton and Andy Reed. That's right. All those guys. Right. So no question and, and look, I'm a believe I'm, I'm rooting by the way. I'm rooting for that nerd, that dun just dragons player. That's coaching a football team in Miami. I I'm rooting for him. I love Mike, Dan. I think he's gonna be phenomenal. I think he's gonna be phenomenal. And I, you know, like I have no doubt that he's gonna take the dolphin into the new Heights. If I had to bet, I would bet on the coach, on the quarterback and in this case, Baltimore has both of them, especially this early in the season. No more question about it. Sure. Speaking of those coaches, we just brought up, how about this clash of the Titans Patriots visiting the dealers and you got CLA bill be Belicheck against the great Mike Tomlin, both teams. Difficult situations, right? You got the, the dealers riding super high off the heels of that wind at Cincinnati. And you've got the Patriots kind of laying in egg week, one in Miami. Some's gotta give here tough. Start for the Patriots going on the road at Miami now at Pittsburgh. How do you see this one playing out? Look, look I. I would've, I bet wrong. Well, I didn't bet, but I guess strong on both these games last week. Yeah. If you would've asked me that the in week two Patriots and the Steelers are playing and one of'em is one said, Patriots are, wanna know, and the Steelers own one against the Bengals, but obviously, you know, it goes to show you, you know how much we know, but, but look, this is, this is a, I mean, How great, how great is just the call of the Patriots versus the Steelers going back big Ben versus Tom Brady. All those playoff runs, all those, especially, especially the first part of of, of Tom Brady's career. When, when, when you know you had Jerome be early on and then was rolling and how interesting. If you remember the last time these Tims played, this is when they had that. I think it was the Jesse James touchdown was called back because he didn't maintain possession of the, of the ball, moved a little bit underneath his hand in the end zone. And then came back and big Ben on a hurry up, play through a pick in the end zone. They went from almost tying it to losing it. It's always interesting when these two scenes face off against each other. So yeah, I mean, it's, it's in, it's in Pittsburgh. You know, I, I, I tend, you know, I don't know, man. I'm. I think of it as what can bill Belichick take advantage of Trubisky? Yes.
