Week 4; Bills rally late at Baltimore; Mahomes gets revenge, Commanders feel the Rush; More disappointment for Indy and Pittsburgh
Transcript

The axis of football is back again. Thank you all for tuning in. Week four is still upon us. It's Monday night, Char and I coming to you live before this Monday night game between the Niners and the Rams, which we'll talk about, but a slew of week four action for us. To get to prior to that. A lot of interesting games this week are some questionable medical care. The way that the dolphins handled to, has kind of some of the concussion protocols being called back into questions. The Thriller and Baltimore, between Buffalo and the Ravens, Kansas City and Tampa did be homes get into revenge. On the Buccaneers for that Super Bowl. Lost a couple years back Washington, Dallas. Interesting to see how Dallas has been playing on the heels of Cooper Rush and his run. And man, Steelers give up a tough one at home in the weaning moments to the Jets, so we'll get to all that and much more sharp. Let's start in Baltimore, where the Buffalo Bills prevail. 23 to 20. Last second field goal by Tyler Bass. As time expired to propel the bills passed the Ravens. This one show the Ravens weren't in control. They were up 17 points in the second half, and when they, with the game tied at 20, the Ravens were in goal to go situation. And instead of opting to take a lead with about three, four minutes left in the game, the Ravens inexplicably go for it on fourth and goal from like inside the. They don't get it. And then, but what does Buffalo do? They take over on downs, go down, milk all the clock, and basically let Tyler basket get chip shot. I think it was a 29 yard field goal, 21 yard field goal rather. To ice the game. And it's perplexing to me that the Ravens didn't opt to take the lead there late in the fourth quarter in a game that they had lost control of. And Buffalo had kind of gotten back into odd decision there. What did you make of this game chart? This is another game now where the Ravens had control, like they did against Miami, and then kind of give it up at the end. Yeah, I don't, I mean, I don't, I don't understand it. I don't, I, it's gonna make me sound like a broken record, but I don't, I don't understand how you're not gonna, you know how you're gonna go for it at that point, and look, and, and, and it goes to show, what I always point to is that the, the, the results of your team coming away with no points is so devastating. That you can't account for it. There's, there's no analytics that it can account for it. And people say, Oh, well they, they gotta go 95 yards. Well, they, they, they, they don't, they showed you they can, you know, take, go half the field and and, and score and milk the clock. So I just don't get it. I, I, I, I don't get all these analytics and I'm shocked that it's somebody like Kche, Harbaugh that, you know, that, that made this decision. Well, you know, the only thing I can think of, Char, that would justify the decision is Buffalo's offense did get, And the second half and began to move the ball much better. They scored, scored the majority of their points in the second half. So perhaps the only thing I can think of him, if I'm getting trying to get into Harbaugh's mind, is maybe he thought that the bills, if they kick a field goal and the bills get the ball back, then they're gonna go then down the field and score a touchdown, which would then put them in a predicament, right? So perhaps he's saying, Let, let's get the touchdown now to leave ourselves of that pressure. But that to me is showing a lack of faith in his defense. And I, I don't get it. I mean, you, you had lost the momentum of the game. You don't have an opportunity, even if it's just with a bill goal, to reclaim the lead, reclaim momentum, put all the pressure back on Buffalo and yeah. Maybe part of you thinking, like you said, Sure. Hey if we don't get the touchdown buffalo still had, is pinned deep and and, and, you know, if we could stop them, we'll get the ball back again. Build position, but to me that still doesn't Trump just taking the lead, taking the control back in the game. Why won't you not offer that? It was just very odd. And to your points are very unha, ball alike. Yeah. I, I don't, I don't, I don't get it. I, I really don't get it. And it's, it goes against every fiber of my being when I see these things happen to where, you know, we used to like the fact that, oh my God, we're gonna kick a field goal, We're gonna win. You know, and our defense play. And it's one thing, it's one thing to say, Okay, you wanna do it early in the game and set a tone. This is like, we're in the fourth quarter. It's a neck and neck game. Buffalo has the momentum that they've taken on the second half. We can actually, we had a good drive. We can reclaim that now, and we just turn, we're gonna turn it down. That was so odd to me that they, they elected the points there. And, and, and you know, the, here's the worst case scenario. Lamar Jackson on boarding goal threw a pick in the end zone. So that whole, that whole premise of, oh, well if we don't get it, they're pinned deep. That was, that was a moot point too. Cause Buffalo got it, The 20, Cause they picked it off in the end zone. So like, it just, it like no fill goal, no touchdown and decent bill position for the, for the bills. It was like, none of it worked out for Baltimore in that sequence. And that really was what decided the game. If you're, if you're, if you're looking at it, I mean the Ravens and it was just, it was a tale of two house. I mean, that has. Buffalo just scored the majority of their points here in the second half. You know, they were down 17 and then they were, I believe it was, it was 20 to 10 going into half. Buffalo ties it 2020 towards the end, end of the third quarter. And it's a, it's a kind of a back and forth and the fourth between both teams and Ravens finally get a drive here. And, and here's what's perplexing Amia. This would've been the Raven's first set of points since the 3 44 mark and the second quarter you would think, Hey, we have not been in scoring position for almost a couple quarters now. Let's just take it while we can. I, yeah, it was just, it was odd to me, and I'm, again, I'm trying to think for Harba, did he think that maybe if he took a field goal, I don't want the bill score touched on it. I don't trust my defense. I, I'm trying to justify It still doesn't make. Nothing makes sense because you know, you check the field goal and force'em to go 80 yard and score a touchdown. Yeah. Like, it just, it just, I, I don't know. I don't know. Unless, unless if like, No, I mean actually I was gonna, I was gonna try to come up with something for him. I can't, I can't think of any reason. I really can't think of any reason. Yeah. And, and look, this is kind of an interesting game. Both Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson lived their team in passing and rushing. Very similar, right? Like Josh Allen, 2 13, 1 touchdown, one pick Lamar, 1 44, 1 touchdown, two picks. They both had comparable rushing stats, so Allen had 70 yards in the ground. Lamar had 73, both on 11 carries. So kind of a similar day, although Lamar had a couple turnovers that really, really costly. Jordan Poer man, I mean, he was not available in that Miami. Really making his presence known. And I think Poer had two picks in this game. So huge for the bills to get their All Star Pro Bowl safety back in that lineup. And and yeah, Poer just, you know, coming off that, that hiatus last week against Miami with two clutch interceptions in this one. Kayla two House man, Baltimore, again, absolutely has control. Baltimore again has a double digit lead at home and gives it up and Buffalo the beneficiary of a poor, poor coaching decision and really get getting healthy on the back end of their defense. It was not Josh Allen's best game. And both defenses played pretty well. For the most part. It was just kind of came down to these close games like they always do. A strategic coaching decision at the end that they really hurt the ravens. So the ravens. Now, what this means now for, for the Ravens the, the afc. Three teams in a three way tie for first the Browns, Ravens, and C all at two and two and in the east now Buffalo and Miami tied at three and one so little earlier in the game. Were about a quarter of the way through the season, but a big, big win for Buffalo would not shock me sharp. These two teams met at some point in the postseason. It was a great hotly contested game, and perhaps if they do meet again, hardball will learn from that mistake. I, I hope so. I'm, I'm, I'm shocked that it's not like, you know, I would expect this to be like you know, Brenda Staley from the Chargers doing something like this, not Coach Harba. Yeah. It's very, very unha ball. Like but in any case, let's go through another game where we had a team that had their foot on the other team's throat and never let up. That would be Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. Going back to the scene of the crime, That Super Bowl two years ago where the bucks absolutely thumped them. This time it was Mahomes and the Chiefs who did the thumping really from the opening Whistle Char this game. The, the Bucks fumbled that opening, Kickoff Chiefs got it back Touch John, within 46 seconds of the game. Yeah, The, the Bucks found themselves behind Chiefs Star jumping out to a 21 to three lead. In this one Bucks did show Signs of life, but they never really got closer than within 11 Points. It was a 28 17 game going into half. But, but Chiefs never lent the relented control of this game. And they just looked explosive on offense. You know, Brady and the passing game did look decent, but they didn't have a running game to show for as much. Couldn't really run it as much cuz they were behind and just, Hey, the, the chiefs were just more ready, more prime. They were, looks like they had revenge in mind. And they were, they came out and dumped them. What did you think of this one jar? It was fantastic. It was a game that, you know, obviously everybody in the country saw. And I was really interested in seeing how that defense was gonna react to that, you know, Kansas City offense. Because really the strong point of of Tampa this year is, is their defense, which is just phenomenal. One of the, one of the best in the league. Yeah. And they got ex, I mean, I don't wanna say they got exposed and I was interested. Right. It's wrong. Like, you know, you can't really, how can you really blame them? You know? It's really like if you're gonna have a team railroad, you, you know, it would make sense to have it be the chief. So so, you know, I, I didn't think it was gonna be that bad. I actually, one of my friends asked me if I were to be, which I was gonna be, and I told him, you know, take the chiefs and and ended up being, you know you know, going my way. But it's, it's I mean, the bucks with the, with the injuries that they've had is, is just, Yeah. And we, we, we didn't talk about it. Sure. I guess we, we should kind of make an aside here. We didn't record last week because you know, we were both kind of on the men. My wife had a baby, so I was kind second and forth there. Thank you. And, and I know you had, you were dealing with a couple things on your own, so apologies to the audience. You never got to really really got to, to catch up on that. But we, you know, we look at the bucks last week against Green Bay. I mean, their receivers made so many mistakes drops, fumbles, and in this one, It was just like, I just look at the numbers. Char Tom Brady had a really good game, you know, 39 and 52, 3 85, 3 tds. It's just, they, but they, here's the thing. They had no balance on offense. They fell behind early. They ran the bar ball star six times for three yards In this game, you're just, you're not gonna get it done. Against any team with that type of imbalance on offense and just any time the buck's kind of got in the game, the Chiefs just, just did not allow them to ever really come back, and they always came back and scored again and again and again. Mahomes sensational 2 49 and three touchdowns, but really talking about balance, this game for the Chiefs was all about balance. 19 carries 92 yards in a touch for client. Edward dla. Isaiah Pacheco, the seventh round rookie, 63 yards on 11 carries for him almost 60 yards of carry average. The home's adding 34 of of his own on the ground as well. So just under 200 yards on the ground for the chiefs. I mean, talk about balance. We talk about Andy Reeb being allergic to running the ball. And this one, he was not. They got the early lead and Andy Reid just worked this, this playbook, like a fi. And really made the bucks. Would, you said Shark quite aptly the Bucks. Steve Defense is very formidable up to this point. They did not look at the same defense we saw in the first three weeks this past Sunday. No. Yeah, it was it was something to behold, but, but honestly, I can't really blame the bucks their injuries on offense. Their offensive line is, is a she of itself. And, and like you said I, I think Leonard for. And is it white? Is I forget what, Yeah. Rashad, Rashad White. Yeah, yeah, yeah. They, they each had, I mean, three carries for. Like for less than 10 yards each. And they did. Yeah, they did. They did. But they both had, they both had like six or seven targets and receptions, so Yeah. You know, Tom Brady being com Brady, he made, he made up for it. But the chiefs are just humming. They're, they're just humming and, and they are, and they were coming off at a disappointing loss against the cults last week, who they, you know, it's a game that they, they could have won, should have, probably should have won. And so they, they were out for vengeance. And this is like my theory. I always like You know, I always say when, when I know the Cowboys are facing a good team, I'm always rooting for that team the previous week because the chances of it of a good team losing two in a row are not very high Right. Right. For example, that means tonight I'm rooting for the Rams. Right. Cause the Cowboys are gonna be visiting them in in LA next week. But I thought you, I thought you weren't gonna root for the Cowboys anymore. I. I'm off the bandwagon in terms of my emotions, but of course, am I, am I pissed off seeing them win? Absolutely not. And that's actually a great segue, Char, our two teams faced off in Dallas this past week. And look, I mean, it's, it's the, the Cooper Rush Show just keeps on rolling, man. I mean, rush hour is alive and well in Dallas and you know, They have done a good job helping rush play within himself while allowing this defense to really just create opportunities and limit teams. The, the cowboy char. Now, I think they've, they've allowed 19, 17, 16, and now 10 points. In, in over the, of course, of the four weeks, they lead the NFL in s they lead the NFL in quarterback pressures. I mean, last week against the Giants, Daniel Jones was under pressure of 52. Of the snaps. Carson Wentz looked under fire in this one. The defense to me is a story in this one. And look, Cooper Rush meets a beautiful throws. He didn't make any mistakes. But really this is about the defense for me. What do you think of what you saw from Dallas? They got a big test coming up. It, it was all defense. I mean, Carson went, had no time to throw a. And then, and then Trayvon Diggs was just all over Terry McLaren, like I should have known better than Star. A couple of my fantasy leagues, you know, he was, he was just blanketed. He was just absolutely blanketed by Trayvon Diggs and. And, you know, and, and when, when you take away the number one receiver like that, and then you are just every, it seemed like Carson Wence was running for his life. Every other play, every other, Yeah. I mean, hard, hard to judge Carson Wence for a game like this. I mean, he was playing, he was playing within himself a little bit early, but then when they fell behind and they had to throw. He ended up throwing two second half interceptions. Just, just a tough game. Look Washington Run Defense did a good job in this one though. Holding Zeke to just 49 yards on 19 carries Tony Poll just six yards on, eight carries. So good job up front. It was Ru Rush, made a couple really nice throws, but I just think it, at some point your defense is gonna get gased if you're Washington. They're on the field so long cuz the offense couldn't sustain drives. So just a really nice showcase for Dallas's defense. And now, These next two games sure are big test for the Cowboys, right on the road at the Rams. Then at Philly, those are a couple big time tilts. If you're the cowboy. Char, what do you think in here, in terms of Dak, right? I think if you know a lot of people are saying, Well, they don't need to rush Dak back. Do you think that the Cowboys should sit Dak One more game? and let, let be what is against the Rams or do you think No, if they, they, they, they've played, Hey, they, they've beaten cci, the Giants and Washington. Not exactly the, the best of the best in the league since these is decent, but really Washington and, and New York. Okay. Right. New York's three and one, but I think we agree it's a bit of a fraudulent three in one. Right. So how keen would you be to get Dak back in the lineup? For the ski against the Rams, assuming he can go. Do you give it another week just to be safe or do you say no, we're gonna need Dak on the fire power to stay at pace with the Rams in. Honestly, honestly, I would keep Cooper of Rush in there and just let him rest. Let him rest. The last thing you want, because like the, the Rams are gonna start humming. Yeah. And, and chances are, and look after the first hoop, when they lost the buffalo, remember I kept telling you that, you know, they didn't get a preseason. Really, the first couple games they're gonna be playing from behind in, in terms of not being prepared. Like other teams, the Rams are gonna be, you know, it's gonna be their week five. Do you, do you really wanna spend your quarterback against that? And, and, and look, if, if Cooper Rush wasn't playing well, then yeah, that's a different story. But the, the, I mean, on one hand, you're gonna save Dak and on the other hand, you kind of reward the, the play of Cooper Rush. Yeah. Yeah. No, I, I know, I know. And it's, you know, I, I think Jerry Jones alluded to maybe in Jess a little bit, but being, you know, welcoming a quarterback controversy, Right. And I think what he's trying to say is, say, I would love it if Cooper Rush played so well. That, you know there would be a controversy. Cause that means it'd be winning games. Right. Which, which they have been. And then, like we said, Russian, this one 15 of 27, 2 23, 2 tds. The Cowboys also had Michael Gall back, he got in the end zone. Good to see that. And CD, Lamb, second straight productive game for him. Six catches, 97 yards. Him touchdown for Mr. Lamb. So they were humming. But you're right, Char, I agree. It's, it's gonna be a different test against the Rams. I also think, look, even if Dak was healthy, the Cowboys would likely have, I'd rather the Rams have likely been favored to win that game anyway, You know, so why, why bring Dak back against that tough defense on the road? Right? But then again, you got Philly the following week, right? So it's almost, you almost go, let's get Dak back in. So he's ready for that big tilt at Philly the following week. You know, we'll see. Cowboys have looked a lot more formidable these past few. It's now it's time for some big boy football at the Rams. At the Eagles. They could very well come outta that stretch, even though they're three and one now. They could be three and three when all said and done there. But you gotta, like the formula Dallas is using to win in these games, right? Absolutely. And, and especially if I would've told you, D's gonna get hurt and Zeke is gonna be absolutely worthless, that running game's gonna be absolutely worthless. And but they're gonna, they're gonna win three games. You would've thought I was outta my mind. Well, come on. Now that the Cowboys ran really well against the Giants, I think they had over 200 yards rushing against the giants. So Paul and Z did come along on telling me that it was a fraudulent fraudulent giants team. So that's fair. I'm just saying the, the, the running backs have, have helped a little bit. Are you trying to tell me that Z looks good? Z Did you watch the game? Did you watch the game yesterday? Z has, Z has spurts where he looks good for sure. I mean, he, he's definitely like the Cowboys you think are doing the right thing, splitting time between Zeek and power. That, that, that's what I'll say. The only reason why he, he's getting 1520 Snap. I mean, Tony carries his contract. His contract because other contract and Jerry Jones is saying, I'm gonna get my money's worth from him. And I can promise you, I can guarantee you Ziel Elliot will not be a cowboy next year. No. Unless, Unless he agrees to a bass pay cut. Right. Even, Even then. Even then, yeah. Like, I mean, no, he's not gonna agree. He's gonna have to get. He's gonna have to get cut. He'll be one of those guys that's gonna go, that's gonna go to Baltimore when JK Dins gets hurt. And, and you know it's gonna be, God. That's, I don't leave there yet. I mean, that was like, remember who was it? Devonte Freeman and Levon Bell, and I don't think seeks in that part of his career yet. That was last year. Send them, you know what? Send, send them to New Orleans to spell Alvin Camara. That's what you can. Okay. Okay. Okay. So we shall see Done. And I'm gonna, I'll happily give, I'll happily give New Orleans Z if we, if they release the rights to Sean Payne's contract for us. That's easy. That's a trader stretch. Exactly. Exactly. But no, look Dallas looks good and Sure. How about this NFC Lease no more. New York, Washington, Dallas, all three in one, and then Philly, four and, oh, I mean this, this division is a combined, what is that, 13 and three. That's pretty good. That's pretty damn good through four weeks, is it not? Yeah. And, and look, Philadelphia is just, just humming. Philadelphia is just absolutely, absolutely incredible. I mean, we wouldn't talk about that. I mean, I mean Jacksonville takes a 14 nothing lead. I, I knew that lead wasn't safe and gel and Hurst has made the. Look, I mean, they look very dangerous and sure if you look at Philadelphia's schedule, it is a pretty darn cupcake schedule. Like I, I would not at all be shocked if Philly walks away with home full advantage, not just because their team is made this massive leap, but just because they don't really play anybody this year. The schedule kind of smile favorably upon them in the regular season. So I, I really think there's a good chance. They're gonna walk away with home field and the Super Bowl's gonna have to go through Philly. So that team is, is humming. And look, we talked about with the bills too. If you say with the bills, I'm staying with Philly, could it be peaking too early? I don't know, but I know for a fact they look damn good right now. Yeah, no, they, they, they look really good that we knew we were ratting and raving all in the off season. How great they're gonna be. Yeah, no, they, they, they absolutely, I mean, it's, it's one of those times where, You said, okay, on paper they've made the right moves, can they execute And man, have they ever executed? And it's like they've made the leap gel and herst looks good. That running game picked up where it left off, the defense is picked up. I mean they got three really, really topnotch corners there. It's gonna be tough to be Philly. It's gonna be very tough to be Philly. No, absolutely. Yeah. So we're gonna be tough out. And here's the thing. In the past that old Philly team might have lost Jackson. Yep. You know, they might have folded their tents and, and just and just called it in. No, but after falling, forcing five turnovers after falling behind 14, nothing, and then winning that game 29 to 20. I mean, what a run Philly won on in that game in the rain. As well a lot of character and grit shown by that team. And I was the first one to kind of question the hiring of Sirianni and how legit that was. I remember that. Yeah. Tough, tough, tough to argue the results right now, though. Tough to argue the results right now. So it's with, I mean, kudos to him. Like we were talking, some people were saying that Philly might be in the quarterback market next year, and then I think he's still for the rest of that. I, And here's the thing, man. As much as I don't like the Eagles, I love Jalen Herz. I'm a big fan of his. I, I, I still root for him to do well. Even though though might seem like an oxymoron, I'm just rooting for the kid, man. I like the kid. I like his game. I like his mentality. And yeah, he played, he plays for for, for, for the enemy team, but like, I can't root help a root for the human story there. He's a, he's a great kid and love seeing him ball out. So we'll, we'll see what happens with them. Certainly the east looks formidable. I'm sure they're gonna regress to the mean eventually with the Giants and the Cowboys probably fall back to Earth a little bit, but so far the east looks pretty damn good. Shark, let's go to another team who's, who's coach you've had a known infatuation for, and that would be the Detroit Lions. Why is every game with them an acid trip? Like what? Like, like what? like it's getting, it's getting counter ridiculous. Now they fall 48 to 45. To the Seahawks, and it's like every Lion's game now follows the same formula where they allow a bunch of points early, make some bonehead mistakes, then get it together, come back at the end, only to fall short at some point. Like, Like how can you always be on the cusp of almost winning? Like at some point, if you're Dan Campbell, you gotta take responsibility and control the situation. You can't keep, like you can't keep being a year away. At some point they have to make the turn and it just seems like they make too many errors throughout the course of the game and hurt themselves despite playing well for portions. Right? It's just like, why are you stop it. Oh, Smith look like paid Manning back there. Man freaking year Stop this time. Look, he's doing exactly what all Detroit fans would want. He's playing competitor games. He's playing highly, highly entertaining games, but they're next year at some point, you gotta win these games. I mean, look, look Shark, if this game was against like Green Bay or. Kansas City or this is Seattle. This is anemic Seattle, who has not looked good at all this year really on they didn't, they didn't look good against. I bought to Bronco's defense, 23 of 3,320 yards, two TDS for Gen Smith, Rashad Penny, 17 for a buck 51, 2 tds, a ca, Rashad penny, average, nine yards of carry and. G I mean, look, they rush sharp. I'm doing the math. They rush for 235 yards in this game. Did the Seahawks, I mean, that's just embarrassing. You, You can't, I mean, Kit, the lions are constantly in these situations at some point. You gotta turn the corner. And I get that it's year two, but like how many times can you have your game strips go to this exact same? They're missing their two best players on offense. Stop it. They're missing their two best players on offense. Okay. What about the defense? What about the defense? Alman Ross and Brown ain't playing defense. I understand that though, but we never said their defense was top notch. Look, they're in their second year kuro. Two years ago they thought it was fricking Detroit was purgatory. Now we have now and fantasy actually have several players from Detroit that you can play. I know, but that's not how you judge. Even short, even last week, Dan Campbell made a, to me, a very egregious error. They're up three points at Minnesota. His kicker. Austin Cyber had missed two 50 plus ARD field goals and he opts to kick a 54 55 yard field goal. They miss it and then Minnesota gets the ball back basically at, made a field and goes down on scores. The game winning touchdown. You gotta pump play defense there, man. I'm just saying. And this is why I question him. How many, how many of those Dan will have on his contract? He's got six years, right? He's got six. He's got six. He's got six. But you gotta show some promise. You gotta show growth. Are you telling me he's not outta Don't mind. I don't think promise ever. Were getting co. They were getting blown out. Two years. What are you talking about? No. No. Sharp. Sharp. Even last year. Detroit was in so many games. Remember week one against San Francisco Last year they came back down like 30 They madely once tour game. Remember against the Raven, it took a 65 yard record record ball by Justin Tucker to get to get the lines that lost the lion. Were. The week later after that, the Viking's, such a chick, chick, a 57 yarder to win. Yeah, I remember those. I'm ju Yeah, I'm just saying like, it's not like they're, They were competitive last year too. We get it. Okay. He's all elevated to the play, but it seems like when it comes to strategic decisions and discipline throughout the course of a game, The team continues to struggle there. I have not seen that leap being made under Dan Campbell. That is my concern. Again, I agree with you. Sure. He's four games into his second year, but man, like how can you have a week to prepare every time and still loose in the same way? It's gotta be mind numbing. Is it Detroit fan? It's entertaining, but it's like, man, even if we lose, can we lose a different kind of way? How do we Every week? No, no. All behind. That's come back. You're looking at it from the prism through the eyes of a Cowboys fan who hasn't been in the playoffs and they've, they've, they've had good teams. You got, You gotta put no moon there, don't you buddy? No. Put sounds funny. It sounds like, ok. It's, honestly, you're looking at it from a, through the eyes of a Cowboys fan who's always had good teams for the most part, just fell short in the playoff. Okay, you're talking about Detroit that had zero hope. No fricking hope. We're talking about the, they were worse than the, the, than the Adam Gay jets. They were god awful. They were horrible for once they have life, for once. It's exciting. And you know what? Every single loss that they get moves them up one more spot in, in the, in the, in the draft for next year. And you know what? For the most part, they've done a really good job with their. They've done a phenomenal job with their draft. Now, now, next year. Look, there, I, I always look at coaches and, and turning around. I look at it, what the contract length of the coaches and I count it backwards. Okay. I counted backwards. Dan Campbell, after this year has another four years left. Most coaches get a five year contract. They basically are telling him, We want you to do this slowly. Do it correctly, and and, and make us, and make us relevant again. They are relevant to Ro You can't tell me they're not relevant. They're none. They're relevant. I'm just saying it at some point, you, you've gotta the discipline. Of your team falls back on the head coach, and that's all I'm saying is I, I'm not, it's not. The losses, it's the way they're losing consistently. That has me concern. Right? So that's that, that's all. We'll see. I still like Dan Campbell as a per, I just wanna see them more disciplined, not making boneheaded place and not putting themselves in these holes so early that force'em to come back. But I agree. Hey, look, Jared, go 3 78, 4 golf. Looks like he's made a bit of a leap too, right? I mean, we didn't, we weren't fans of golf, but you can't say, I mean, he didn't have Almond Ross, Saint Brown and, and Deandre stripped and he looked pretty damn. Yeah. And, and, and, and by the way, who was the person when this trade happened? I said, This could, this is probably the best thing that could have happened to Jared. Go, You actually said it was a, it was a, it was a great trade for both teams and both players and for both players. Which, which, which, Hey, I, Hey, look, you can't see me. I'm tipping my hat to noonish right now. That, that, that, that ends a feather. And the cap of no red Don. Well, I appreciate it because if you recall, I said in my life I've never seen a trade where all four parties involved, meaning the two teams and the, and the players involved are making out for a better, I didn't predict that golf would, would look good as a lion. He has look good and look, even if the lions, let's say they have another losing season and they get some high drops and they bring a new quarterback. Like they, Goff has played at this point, he's played well enough to warrant interest from other teams as well, so I don't think, even if it doesn't work out in Detroit and they go a different direction with the younger quarterback of the future, I think Goff is still probably with the way he's played, earned the right to go compete somewhere else for a start meeting. Oh, and, and, and, and here's what I think I, I think Dan Campbell's the type of guy that if he doesn't have a quarterback that he absolutely loves, he'll stick with golf one more year, right? The way golf. And he sure you can play well. So he should. And, and let me tell you something. You're, you're trying to tell me that, that right now the, the Atlanta Falcons wouldn't love to have golf. You're trying to tell me that the New England Patriots wouldn't love to have golf. There's a, there's a handful of teams that would love to have that production that, that golf is putting forward. That's fair. That is fair, my friend. Okay. On and, and ster for whatever you call me. I, Mr. Don. I said golf. I said golf has always been in a situation where the lights might be too bright. He goes to a team like Detroit where the expectations are not very high. It's a place where golf could actually take control and have it be his team and, and possibly be successful. God, I love being right Well, look, definitely a far cry from from from LA to Detroit. And look, you can't call it disappointing, but I think it was the disappointing loss for the Lions in a game that they, I think they, they could have come back in, won, but in any case, Shark, I wanna think your brain on a couple of losses here You had the Indianapolis Colts coming off that huge win against the Chiefs, succumbing to the Titans at home, 24 to 17, and the Steelers seemingly had control of this game. They were up 10 points in the fourth quarter with seven and a half minutes left, and the Jets come back scoring 14 unanswered to end the game to get the road winning in Pittsburgh, 24 to 20 sharp. Which game? Or worst loss rather. Did you find more disappointing between Pittsburgh and No question. No question. The Steelers, no question. The Steelers tell me why. I mean, they're beating a Jets team. That's, that's gonna, that's, that's been a basically a, a draft lottery team for the last, what, 10 years, number one a quarterback that has struggled coming back from injury on his first game. So there you go. There's, there's, there's something to. To look forward to as a defense and offensive line that has lost three best offensive linemen. They're, they're Mackay, Beckton, and, and, and fan and, and all these other guys. And you, and you are winning by 10 points in Pittsburgh and you're gonna lose it. It's, that's to me. Yeah, that's, to me, that's. That's May, maybe because I'm a former Steeler, and it just bothered me that, that that loss bothered me a lot. Because here's the thing, the Cols, you're talking about, the Titans, they're division rivals. They play each other tough. You, you, you know what I mean? Yeah. The Steelers was by, by far the worst loss. I agree. And, and in that game, it's important enough. They did take out, Mr. Bisky, put in the kid, Kenny picket it. He look, I mean, he had some, some good and some bad. He, I mean, he threw the interception at the end. That put the jets into the position to go on that. Go ahead. Touchdown drive, but pick it. 10 of 13, a buck 20, but sharp Here's the funny thing, good news. None of Kenny pickets passes hit the ground. Bad news, all of his incomplete passes were interceptions, right? So 10 of 13. All, all, all through those and conclusions were interception. So three picks for the kid Tru Trubisky, seven of 1384 yards. Really just wasn't, wasn't moving the ball. And Mike Tomlin said we just needed to spark. There wasn't any indication of what the go forward. A decision will be, but it's for that game at least they needed to spark. But I think you do probably don't make a move like that unless you're ready to commit to pick it going forward. But almost three picks, man, that I don't know if Tomlin's gonna think twice going forward. It was a tough day to be noted as well. Zach Wilson, his first game back coming off injury, he did throw two interceptions, had a touchdown and. He, the kid hung in there, made some crucial throws down the stretch that put his team in his position to score. So good first game back for Zach Welles and no one kind of, you know, not a world beater performance, but but enough to get his team to win. And Bruce Hall, the guy you liked, the rookie pounding it in for that score to put the jets up. 24 20. I agree. I think the Colts. It is disappointing, especially coming off the heels of that big wit against the chiefs to really, And they, I mean, they fell behind. They were down 24 to three in this one and they kinda had to claw their way back and they didn't play good. To me, what's disappointing about the cult char is that they just have not been able to get Jonathan Taylor going. They just, I mean, another game, he 20 carries 42 yards. I mean, he's averaging less than two and a half yards per carry on the season. And Matt Ryan, I mean, look, he, he, he did play better than the second half, but, It's what I feared. He's the old line's not playing that great. He's not getting protection. And Matt Ryan needs that at this stage of his career to be effective. And, you know, it's, it's been tough when you can't get the old line going. You can't get Taylor going and Matt Ryan's not getting protection. It's tough sledding and look, this is a game you talking about Derek Henry, maybe not being on the decline. This is a game where Derek Henry had a hell of a performance one 14 and a touchdown for him on 22. Carries Ryan Tan Hill playing more of kind of a game manager, but a very respectable day for him. 17 of 21, 1 37 and two T. So very efficient day for Ryan, Tana Hill and Tennessee doing just enough to win this game. I just think it's that disappointing the, the Colts, you have to get back to your formula last. Jonathan Taylor is the, is the lifeblood. He's the straw that serves the drink in this offense and they have not been able to get him going and that's why Char through four weeks, they're sitting at one, two, and one and look the Jets What can you say? I mean, I did not expect, I can't remember the last time a Jets team went into Pittsburgh and one that's crazy. That puts them in the thick of it. In, in AFCs and Sharp Pittsburgh. Dead last. Dead last at one in three. In the AFC North. Very tough. I know Mike Toman never has had a losing season. Extremely impressive feat. This is now being put to the test early in 2022. Yeah. L look the, the talking about, you know, Kenny Picket, whether he should start or not. Do, don't start to catch. You Got you, got you. Gotta a hellacious stretch coming out. Don't start the. The but, but here, but here's what I do. Like that I, that I saw, he came in and you know how I'm always like, there's a certain feel that I get from there wasn't energy. There wasn't energy. Right. And, and I'm glad that you noticed as well. I noticed it. I, I'm like, okay. He's, you know, he's, he's, he's doing it, but. There's no shame in putting him on the bench again and say, Okay, good job, kid. You know what this is? This is, Yeah, this was a warmup. He's not going anywhere. Warmup. He's not going anywhere. Right. The season isn't lost. Right. But you know, I saw Miss Trubisky. He was not a happy man in the locker room after that game, and you know, Well, he wasn't playing poorly. That's the thing. I mean, Mitch wasn't doing bad. Well, it's interesting too, because you know, this week they play at Buffalo. The Steelers do and so that would be a hell of Alliance then to throw the kid into, If you're mist Trubisky, you just came from Buffalo. It's almost like it's a little bit embarrassing, like you know, he's got familiarity with that defense. Yeah. You know that. I know, I know. But I'm saying I found Trubisky. I wanna start this game because I just came from Buffalo. I, I I, you know, I was a backup in Buffalo. I left there to be a starter here. It's kind of embarrassing to not come back to Buffalo as a backup again. I just feel like I wanna start this game. If I was your biscuit, and to your point, you know, with the kids' confidence, do you wanna throw him in the lines then at Buffalo and its first start? I don't think we're there yet, but look, you know, we'll see May maybe they feel like they have too much stagnation on offense to have trust in Travi. It is early. So interesting. Tcc, what Mike, Tom will decide there. Sure. Our last thing, speaking to quarterbacks, the dolphins in the NFL coming into a lot of fire this week based on how they've handled to a Togo Byoa, he suffered what was very apparently a concuss. In week three against the bills, he said it was a back injury. He came back and finished that game despite being hobbled and wobbly, showing a lot of signs of having a concussion. And then Thursday night of last week, it's a what? A four day turnaround between that and the Thursday game. And early in that game, he gets slung down on the ground. I mean, his fingers are jerking back. He's got all the telltale sign of a head injury and you know, people saying, Hey, that I'm not a medical expert. But when you concuss one time, it then makes you susceptible to it happening again. And a lot of criticism now with the NFL and adulthood and how they handle the situation with two, that doctor who cleared two to go back into the Bills game has since been fired by the NFL Players Association Shark. What do you make of how this is handle? And what happened to two and what this means going forward. I, I have, I have several questions. Number one, are we sure that the way, the way he collapsed two weeks ago, it was because of a concussion and, and not because of his back? Are we sure that his hands switching like that? Or, or were because of a concussion. I was told, again, you know, my, my family, I come from a family of doctors. You know, I was told that that actually could happen to you. It's a, it, it's, it's more of like where your back kind of like, just flexes. That that could be caused it, it could be, it could be from head trauma, but it's cause it could be from spinal trauma. Here's, here's what we know. Well, here's what we know. Char, here's what we know in the Buffalo game. He was hit in the. And then he got up wobbly. He got up, wobbly, couldn't keep his balance. Was, was basically fumbling around and, and couldn't stand up straight so that it looked like a head injury, not a back injury. Cuz he, he couldn't stay. I mean, his lineman literally had to hold him up to keep him from falling down. The second thing is, What we also know is in the, in against the the Bengals on Thursday night, he was also fun of the ground head first. So both injuries, you could see his head clearly being kind of the victim of the play and in both cases showing signs and concussion. Right? So, got. I'm sorry. What gross did, did you see when he was down, he didn't hit his head on the ground, his shoulder hit the ground? No, but then his head hit his snap right after it impacted, I, I can swear to you, his head didn't hit the ground. So you're saying you don't think two of was concussed? No, I, I'm, I'm, I'm saying that his head did not hit the ground. I mean, I, I disagree cuz I saw his head of the ground. I mean, I mean, look, I think, I think it was a bang, bang, like, like his head didn't hit, Maybe his head wasn't, the first part of his body didn't hit the ground, but it hit the ground like right after. So, you know, in any case, there's, I mean, it's already been, he has a concussion, right? I mean, he's, he was concussed at least in the second game, right? So, Assuming that he, he was, and, and they fired the doctor that put him back in the first game. So there was clearly been some, some level of investigation in some mal. Why did they fi, Why did they fire him? I mean, I wasn't in the meeting room when they did it, so I, you know. Well, no, but I mean, these are questions, these are questions that I, that are very relevant. So, So do you think it's, do you think it's, it's unlikely that the doctor. Under some pressure to get the quarter back, back in the game, Let him go back in against his own. No, that's not, That's not what I'm saying. So what I'm saying is most likely, that's not what I'm saying at all. Anything is possible. Let's assume for a second that he was concussed. In both situations. In both situations. Does something need to change here? I, No, I, They have, they have protocols in place to make sure that this doesn't happen. I th I I don't think it was, I, I don't think it was a it, it was a, a failing of the protocol. I think it was a failing of the people following the protocol if he was truly concussed. But I think there's this overly underlying issue of even this by the protocols, teams, and doctors are under pressure. To not rule a quarterback out, especially a quarterback. You know what, here's, here's the thing. I've always like, how do you know? Like, is it crazy to say doctors aren't on the payroll? Right? So that, so they're, they're going to be pressured to not rule a quarterback out unless absolutely is like beyond the pay where you have to rule about, right? Like, you know what I mean? If, like, if it's jump ball, we're letting it back in you, you don't think that happens? I, I, I think it does. I mean, I would be foolish to say it doesn't happen, but here's what I don't want to have happen. I, I heard Chris Collinsworth say the main, the main issue of this was the public reaction because they saw to a wobble. And it's really because people are bitching and moaning and yelling and screaming that that's why it's important. I think if there's, I, I think the protocol needs to be looked at by people that are smarter than I am and say, Is there truly something wrong with the. or was there simply a case where the doctor went against his oath, his, his, what is it, the Hippocratic Oath or whatever, whatever it's called, to, to do best by the, by his patient and, and he really served the, the will of his employer. Is this a situation or is it because the protocol is, is inefficient? That's that's what needs to be? They actually changed the protocol to say that, like, essentially going forward, that if any player has trouble with balance going forward, they're just done no matter. So no more. That's, that's, that's stupid. That's, that's foolish. Yeah. I mean, I, what I think is these doctors are under pressure on the payroll team to get star players back in. He probably thought to himself it could be concussion, but you know, if not, it doesn't look as serious. Now he went back in and because he was concussed the first time, he was more susceptible to, to get concussion. Just four days, just four days away from the next game, and he. A concussion. If he had a concussion and they didn't wait a full week, there's something wrong. But I know, look, it isn't right cause the game was on Thursday. Right. But, but that's if he had a concussion, I was told that he didn't have a concussion. Well I think that that team doctor did not document a concussion. Right. And I think this, this week the NFL plans to do a thorough investigation cuz TOA said it was a back. Right. And so they're going to ask them, Hey, to a, if it was a back injury, what did the doctor do to trigger your back? Let talk us through that, right? Because you got up fine. You were not grabbing your back. You were actually dizzy. You seemed like you were dizzy. So I think the NFL plans to actually investigate this, to really determine was that concussion or not. But, but here's what I don't want to have happen. I don't want the. NFL should be investigating this because it's the right thing to do, not because the fucking fans are bitching and moaning. Well, look, I mean, when does the NFL ever do things? This is the right thing to do. The NFL does things because it affects their bottom line. That's the end. That that's really what Matt, I mean, look, they were hiding medical data for years. Not, you know, so like I, I don't trust the NFL to do anything cuz it's the right thing, right? They're doing it because it's gonna affect their perception, their, their. Yeah, their optics in the core of public opinion, they're gonna do what makes them look best and makes the most profit. So I, I don't think they're the, the saviors of morality. I just think they're doing it because it's, it's, it's gonna look bad if they don't. So in any case, yeah, I think it points to a bigger problem and I, I hope they fix it just so players, well, players should not be the judge. Whether or not they should go back in, They should. Oh, absolutely not. Cause players always wanna go back in. Exactly. Exactly. So in any case, here's the player safety, man. That's all we got. Real quick before we sign off, prediction on tonight's game, nine Rams, who you got? I, I, I, I gotta go Niners, I gotta, I gotta go Niners. Jimmy G and the Niners have have the Rams number and, and I, and, and, and look, and even in the playoffs last year, Rams got fortunate. Rams got very lucky to, to win that game. So until the Rams show me that they can beat Jimmy G and, and Kyle Shanahan. I'm gonna, I'm gonna go with historical. I'm going with the Rams just because they gotta win. They gotta win tonight if the Cowboys have a shot next week. So that's, that's, that's my logic on the bandwagon, baby, on the, I'm not back on the bandwagon, but I still, I mean, I still want them to win, but I'm not like on the bandwagon, Right. I mean, No, no. I'm calling BS on you. You told me to keep you honest, to give your feet to the fire. You're back on the bandwagon. hoping they win. And wanting them to have a coaching change are two different things. You said you're never gonna root for em again. That's what you said. I have picked against them every week. Okay. When I walked that. Cause in your weird mind, you think that you're jinxing him to win by picking against them. I know you, I, I kill you the reverse. Am I not? Yes. The reverse team. It's the reverse. Absolutely. I look at it as well, if they win, it's good and if they lose, at least I won something in my pick league, so. Exactly, Exactly. You're back on the bandwagon. No, I think, I think, I think McVay's gonna rat the momentum of that conference championship. Jimmy g kind of fell back down on Earth last week. I, I think Rams ride that momentum. I really do. So we'll see. We'll see. You just change the subject. All I was saying is that you're back on the bandwagon of the, of the Cowboys. That's all. Until, until McCarthy's gone. I'm not fully back on the bandwagon. I'm not. McCarthy's, gotta be gone. It's me or him. Yeah, Jerry, It's me or him. Pick one. All right man. We'll be back later this week to preview week five's action. Sharp. Fun as usual, buddy. We'll talk. Sounds good. Take care. All right. See ya.
