In this episode with Noah Mandel, we discuss a brand new service that is being released by Physio Network on January 28th.
Noah reveals the 'why' behind this service and explains how it will be a fantastic way for clinicians to improve their clinical reasoning.
We hope you are as excited about it as we are!
Our host is @James_Armstrong_Physio from Physio Network
These presentations, they're so enjoyable and easy to watch and they're so educational. And I think it's just this very, very unique educational opportunity that's out there where I think you'll find that when you watch it, it will teach you a ton. It will be engaging and it will really help you be more confident when you're working with your patients in the clinic. So I think it's a lot to be excited for.
SPEAKER_00:Today we've got a slightly different episode for you. I'm joined by Noah Mandel to talk about an exciting new service PhysioNetwork is about to launch. This service allows you to see how experts approach real patient cases, breaking down their clinical reasoning and treatment strategies. It's called Case Studies by PhysioNetwork and I think you'll find it just as valuable as I do after hearing all about it. We'll get straight into this and hear from Noah all about our great new service. I'm James Armstrong and let's get into case studies. Noah, welcome to the podcast. I'm really excited to have you on today because we're going to be chatting through an incredibly exciting new service that Physio Network are launching. And we haven't got much time, so I want to get straight into this today and we'll kickstart it. Noah, what are we launching today and what's the why behind it?
SPEAKER_01:So very, very soon, we're going to be launching a project called Case Studies. And we've been working really hard on this for the past half a year or so. So we're really, really excited to launch it at the end of January. And essentially, what Case Studies is, is a way to make it easier for clinicians all around the world to understand how expert clinicians actually practice in their clinic. So when you ask about the why, we find that a lot of the information or the educational services online, they're often pretty theoretical. And some clinicians sometimes struggle sort of bridging the gap by bringing that theoretical information then into the clinic. So we wanted to make that very, very easy by just showing how these clinicians actually work with real patients that they've had in the past. So that's essentially the why. And we did a survey. And before I talk about the results of that survey, I just want to go back to when I was in physio school. I know any time we ever went over an actual case study, it suddenly, you know, things just started clicking a little bit more for me. I started to sort of understand the theory that I was being taught a little bit better. And it seems like a lot of other clinicians would agree. So when we did this survey and we asked people to rate on a scale of one to 10, how much they would be interested in a service like this, 90% of people rated it either an eight, a nine or a 10. So it seems like there's lots and lots of interest out there, which is awesome.
SPEAKER_00:I agree completely. As you said, I remember when I first graduated, it was when I started seeing cases and hearing cases that it all started to click together. And it was about that real life actionable insight that you get from a case study. That's why we're doing it. Makes loads of sense. And I'm sure everyone listening is excited about this. How are we going to be doing this, Noah? How's this all going to come about? So we're
SPEAKER_01:asking expert clinicians to essentially create a one-hour case study presentation. So they create all their PowerPoint slides, and then they actually will have a video recording of them going over all of the slides of their case study. And if we are looking at a patient who has sciatica, then we're going to be asking a clinician who's an expert in that topic to discuss an actual patient that they've worked with. We'll be going over things like the assessment approach and how the differential diagnoses will be ruled out, the actual treatment plan and how the clinician actually thinks about going over the treatment plan and implementing it. There will be exercise demonstrations, sometimes that's pictures, sometimes that's videos, depending on the actual case study. A common theme is Clinicians will bring up the challenges or the complications that they may face during the case study and how they go about approaching those. And we're going to have two new ones every single month. And I have the luxury of reviewing all of the case studies. So I feel very, very excited about this. I watch every single one and I'm learning a ton just in the process of editing it. So I'm excited for everyone else to see it as well.
SPEAKER_00:Definitely. And I think, as you say, the things that they're going to be covering, and in particular, again, from my background, differential diagnosis, hearing someone talk through their clinical reasoning and picking out some of those differentials and how they go down each route and what they're looking for is really, really key. And will it include any CPD or anything like that at all?
SPEAKER_01:Oh, absolutely. Yeah. Every single case study will have a downloadable certificate that you could use for the CPD or CEU credits.
SPEAKER_00:Brilliant. So people listen to this, really excited, choose to subscribe, which I'm sure many, many will. They may even be interested in what we're going to talk about later in terms of a certain little competition, but we'll come back to that in a minute. What are the benefits to those subscribers that you haven't already mentioned already? Yeah. Thank
SPEAKER_01:you so much for having me. And now we have the opportunity to see how these same people that have often created a masterclass or a research review or practical actually will implement this in the clinic. So you basically get to step inside the minds of these experts and sort of follow along as they are, quote, in the clinic and see how they actually do things in the real world. So I think it's incredible for gaining really, really practical insights that you could almost immediately, you just have to to watch it first, almost immediately apply it into the clinic.
SPEAKER_00:Definitely. It'd be a real confidence boost for a lot of people watching them and really gaining that effectiveness in clinic, I'm sure. So what sort of experts are we likely to be seeing, Noah? Who might we be having? Are you going to give anything away to us? I'll give a little bit. I won't
SPEAKER_01:give any specific names just yet, but I'll put it this way. If you haven't heard of the expert yet, then you probably should have heard of them. So we're getting very, very great names, great presenters, people that are super, super knowledgeable. And again, I feel so fortunate to have this task of being able to watch all the case studies because every single one that's come through so far has been excellent. And I'm learning so much. I'll also say that we're going over very common topics. Some will be a little bit more nuanced, but we're going to have those ACL cases. We're going to have Achilles tendinopathies and ruptures, sciatica, low back pain, all the really, really common stuff that we typically see in the clinic.
SPEAKER_00:The key here is it's going to be those people who are experts in that. field, talking through their reasoning in that case by them, which is going to be such an insight into how they do it. And I think it might give a lot of people confidence that one, they're doing the right thing, but also some huge amount of knowledge of how they might change their practice or improve their practice as well. Absolutely.
SPEAKER_01:And I do want to add that, you know, it's not just purely talking about the patient in front of them. They'll give you a lot of background info as well. So it's not like we're just going right into the assessment. Most of these case studies have started with some background information on the topic. So you could go in a little bit more informed. You get the idea of the pathophysiology behind the conditions, the natural histories. So it's a little bit of that theoretical information, but actually being applied in clinic as well.
SPEAKER_00:Brilliant. So I gave it away earlier, just a little bit. We do have a certain competition for people listening to this and how they might be able to get their hands on a subscription. Tell us more, Noah. So right now we're running a
SPEAKER_01:competition on Instagram where you could win a free years subscription to case studies. And again, we're launching two every single month. except for the initial launch where we're launching six at a time. So that is a lot of case studies that you'll get free access to for a year. And all you have to do, it's really, really simple. You just have to like the post and tag two colleagues. That's it. Can we put a link in the show notes so that people could enter the competition?
SPEAKER_00:Absolutely. Absolutely.
SPEAKER_01:And it ends January
SPEAKER_00:23rd. So hurry. And that's quite a good point because I think we need to let listeners know actually also is when we're launching this, well, I'm not sure if you've mentioned it, but it's the 28th of January we're actually going to be launching the case studies, isn't it? So the competition ends on the 23rd, just in time for the launch of case studies. So perfect timing. So you do need to get in quite quickly to this. So listening to this, make sure you get onto Instagram, follow the link. Either one will get you into that competition. What if, unfortunately, you haven't won the competition. Is there any other way listeners can get to get their hands on this subscription? It won't be quite as
SPEAKER_01:good as a year's free subscription, but it will be the next best thing. So keep your eyes peeled on January 28th. We'll have a different special offer that will apply to everyone who didn't win that will help really launch this band and get everybody really excited about it.
SPEAKER_00:Brilliant. No, thanks for your time. It's really exciting stuff. Any closing thoughts, any recap?
SPEAKER_01:These presentations, they're so enjoyable and easy to watch and they're so educational. And I think it's just this very, very unique educational opportunity that's out there where I think you'll find that when you watch it, it will teach you a ton. It will be engaging and it will really help you be more confident when you're working with your patients in the clinic. So I think it's a lot to be excited for.
