The Quicksand of Worry

Jana Shelfer

Are you ready to create a life you crave? Let's spin that doom loop of negativity into an upward success cycle and start Living Lucky®. Good morning, I'm Jana.

Jason Shelfer

I'm Jason.

Jana Shelfer

And we are Living Lucky®.

Jason Shelfer

You are too.

Jana Shelfer

Talk to me, Jason, about worry.

Jason Shelfer

Yeah, so there's a thing about where we spend our energy and worry, I feel like Only creates more worry, right More things to worry about, and too often like worry is almost like digging the hole, like we're going to feel that twinge of it's like quicksand. Yes, that's a really good analogy or metaphor. I don't know the difference.

Jana Shelfer

If you sit and worry about let's just use credit card debt. If you start worrying about credit card debt I kid you not, because I've experienced this, I've experienced this you start worrying about credit card debt and, oh my gosh, I got to pay this credit card. Next thing, you know, things will start breaking down in your house.

Jason Shelfer

So this is crazy. Yes, when I got laid off, I was worried about all the. I spent so much time in the worry my car literally broke down. I'm telling you, weird things started happening and it's kind of like that self-manifestation.

Jana Shelfer

It is your fears start manifesting Becoming a reality. Yes, and it's. Where are you putting your attention?

How Frequencies Change Reality

Jason Shelfer

So big, so big. I literally just had that realization. I knew what was going on, but my take on that whole situation was when I was down, people came around. There were some times that people came around, because I throw out of it though. I let go of the worry because friends were around. And when I let go of the worry, I was able to create, to grow, to love, to have these higher vibrational experiences that changed everything.

Jana Shelfer

Because your vibration, your frequency changed.

Jason Shelfer

Yes, god, it's so big I got goosebumps. You didn't do that consciously, no, you did that frequency changed. Yes God, it's so big, I got goosebumps.

Jana Shelfer

You didn't do that consciously.

Jason Shelfer

No.

Jana Shelfer

You did that unconsciously.

Jason Shelfer

Correct.

Jana Shelfer

So if we can start doing that consciously, we can actually speed up our reality.

Jason Shelfer

Yeah, speed up what we are manifesting and stop reverse manifesting.

Jana Shelfer

Yes.

Taking Action: The Lake Weed Story

Jason Shelfer

That's so big, so we both spent time worrying about the grass and the lake.

Jana Shelfer

Oh my gosh.

Jason Shelfer

So we live on a lake, we ski, almost every day water ski, and this grass has been growing and the county's not taking care of it, the state's not taking care of it. So we're dealing with it, but we're worried.

Jana Shelfer

So it's either up to us or it just becomes out of control, mess.

Jason Shelfer

Yes, and it kept feeling like it was getting out of control. It is out of control, and so I spent time worrying that it was going to hamper our skiing, but yesterday I stopped worrying and started doing it.

Jana Shelfer

Because every time we take the boat out the seaweed gets wrapped around the motor.

Jason Shelfer

When I take my wife out of the water she's kind of wrapped in weeds.

Jana Shelfer

And the other day you literally said Jana, can you swim down and see if you can unwrap the seaweed off?

Jason Shelfer

the motor. Yeah, I promise not to start it.

Jana Shelfer

Are you kidding me? Seaweed off the motor. Yeah, I promise not to start it. Are you kidding me? You want me to swim under the boat and unwrap the seaweed.

Jason Shelfer

Yeah, I promise I won't start the motor.

Jana Shelfer

Without goggles or anything. You just want me to feel around.

Jason Shelfer

Well, I've done it.

Jana Shelfer

Feel around. Now here's the thing is. I've done it while the boat is on the lift. It's not an easy task.

Jason Shelfer

It's not Because there's some strong weeds.

Jana Shelfer

They are not only strong. You almost need a knife and you just want me to swim down there.

Jason Shelfer

This is why I was so worried. This is where the worry came from.

Jana Shelfer

So let's get back to when you start taking action.

Jason Shelfer

Yeah well, instead of spending all my energy on the worry and the fretting, I borrowed a lake razor from our neighbor Matt and went out there and just tossed the rake. And if we did that for an hour a day, I made so much Now. Yesterday I did it from 10 o'clock in the morning till six o'clock at night.

Jana Shelfer

You kind of overdid it.

Overestimating What We Can Achieve

Jason Shelfer

I overdid it because. But the thing is, when I got out of the worry and got into the action, acting and the doing, like it wasn't perfect but it was, it was progress and that was a different mindset. And as soon as I started seeing the progress, I was like, oh, I've got, like I'm going to this is happening today.

Jana Shelfer

Now we overestimate what we can do in a day. I know why do we do that and we still do that, even though we know that we do that.

Jason Shelfer

I think it's just going to be normal and that's why our to-do list always has like two or three things left on it.

Jana Shelfer

I literally I not only overestimate what I can do in a day, I overestimate what I can do in a week and I overestimate what I can do in a month. I literally go oh, I can lose 40 pounds in a month.

Jason Shelfer

I do that. You would be a wafer. No.

Jana Shelfer

I literally do that. I'm like, okay, I have a month until I see.

Jason Shelfer

Until this event Until. I go to Kansas, I can lose 40 pounds by then, until I have to speak. Yeah, why do?

Jana Shelfer

I do that.

Jason Shelfer

It's, I think so I get it, and there's a million people out there that are having the same situation and I think we'll always have that situation. But if we can just be, if we can show up with that discipline and consistency, over time it will happen.

Jana Shelfer

No, I literally I'm like okay, next week I have ski camp where I'm going to see my coach, and I'm like I'm going to be on video all day. I'm like, oh yeah, my, my arms will be cut by my arms, it'd be ripped.

Jason Shelfer

Yeah Right, look at those triceps and biceps.

Jana Shelfer

Working. You know I've been skiing and everything, but I feel like I should be further along than what I am.

Jason Shelfer

I feel like I should be in a bodybuilding competition Right, Like not the muscle people but the fitness people I do.

Jana Shelfer

That's what I feel.

Jason Shelfer

You're on your way, Like. I think you look stunning. You're a stunner.

Jana Shelfer

But here's the thing is I do overestimate how far or how much I can achieve in a short period of time. I do that with my stocks too so let that worry go. I mean, I seriously I look at the stock market. I think I've told everyone on this podcast that I've been studying options now for the last year, year and a half, maybe two years, and I literally will get on my daily class and I'll say, oh yeah, I can make $5,000 today.

Jason Shelfer

Let's do it. Let's do it Today. I do that. I used to do that at the blackjack table, which is not a healthy thing.

Jana Shelfer

That's not healthy. No.

Jason Shelfer

It's like, in fact, I would win $5,000, $10,000. And I was like, all right, it's time to retire. It's not gambling.

Jana Shelfer

It's not gambling. That's not the goal here. The goal is to just make a little tiny bit.

Jason Shelfer

Consistently over time and that little tiny bit turns into a big bit. That's the beauty of it. Like even cleaning out the lake, the little tiny bit that I did turned into a big bit. I know, if you look at the curb, oh my gosh, and look how much you pulled out that's kind of why I stopped is like there's no more room to put it on the street On the curb For the garbage pickup to people to get.

Jana Shelfer

Oh, I know, and it smells I didn't want to tell you, but our neighbor's dog came running over and was like getting in it everything that you put in there oh, because it stinks like and dogs love that stink.

Jason Shelfer

Yeah, they like to roll in it and the dog was it drax? Yes, drax is. Thex is one of the neighbor's dogs.

Jana Shelfer

Drax was taking everything that you put there and was dragging it all over our lawn and stuff.

Jason Shelfer

Oh, I'm sure.

Jana Shelfer

And then, of course, Drax's owner was like oh, I'm sorry I'll put it all back, Just don't let him roll in it because he will stink.

Jason Shelfer

And I walked out this morning to walk the dog and it stunk.

Jana Shelfer

Really.

Jason Shelfer

We've got these beautiful?

Jana Shelfer

what's the name of the tree out there? Do you remember?

Jason Shelfer

Is it jasmine, jasmine and azaleas? I don't know. So all these beautiful, really highly powerful smelling flowers.

Jana Shelfer

They're so pretty, they're so good.

Finding Comfort in Discomfort

Jason Shelfer

And it is overpowered by this lake funk because it came out of the muck.

Jana Shelfer

Okay, so what you were saying, though, is just little by little.

Jason Shelfer

Yeah, just stop using your energy to worry and use it to believe, to create love, grow and manifest Like, create your own luck, create the life that you want instead of worrying about what you don't have currently I think it is taking action. It is and imperfect action. Just any step towards what you want is away from the things that you don't. Imperfect action beats stale Inaction, anytime it does yes.

Jana Shelfer

It does. This is a lesson I need.

Jason Shelfer

Let that be the first decision is I'm just going to take action, like I'm going to take a step, and even if it is the wrong direction, it's movement. Then you can course correct and get into the right direction.

Jana Shelfer

Oh, this is a big one that for some reason, I've learned this over and over.

Jason Shelfer

We all learn it. My clients go through it every day, like every week. It's kind of like okay, how are we not? Where are we not taking action? And what's holding like? What's the holdup? What like, why won't, why don't? What are we avoiding by moving towards this? What is worry giving us that allows me to stay comfortable, and comfortable in the uncomfort or discomfort right?

Jana Shelfer

Yeah, because it's not necessarily.

Jason Shelfer

It's not moving you out of it.

Jason Shelfer

Right, because there's discomfort, you out of it, right, because there's discomfort, it's like, it's like moving in the uncomfortable zone is uncomfortable, but staying in this in the muck is uncomfortable is uncomfortable as well but it feels safe because we've gotten used to it and that's like, like I, there's um. There's a couple people that have been in our sphere that um aren't going to keep a job, they aren't going to like they're going to have, they're going to be moving all the time because they have gotten so comfortable being uncomfortable that that's now part of their identity, like, oh, my life is hard, my life is um, life is unfair for me, yeah, and so that's their new comfort because they're getting comforted from friends, comfort like they're finding their comfort other ways, when I like getting my comfort and creating the life that I love.

Jana Shelfer

I know, I know you say it like it's so easy.

Jason Shelfer

It's not easy, it's just work.

Jana Shelfer

I just say that it's a problem that it feels. I don't want to say it's a problem, but it is a lesson that I continue to learn.

Jason Shelfer

Yeah, and well, I think we will always continue to learn it, because we're always building our mountains higher.

Jana Shelfer

We're always setting our goals higher, and to let go of worry is so much easier said than done.

Jason Shelfer

And I think that's where it's just consistent renewing of your mind and renewing of your amazingness.

Jana Shelfer

And that is why we continue to have podcasts about this topic because we need the reminder, even to remind ourselves to let go of the worry.

The Universe Gives What You Focus On

Jason Shelfer

Now we get to say it and then we'll go back and listen to it again and hear it back and I'll be like who is that brilliant person that is talking on that podcast?

Jana Shelfer

Oh, it's me.

Jason Shelfer

It's you, it's you. Who's that brilliant person on the podcast? It's me, it's me. I'll be the second best person on this podcast. That way I'm. It's perfect.

Jana Shelfer

Okay.

Jason Shelfer

Because I can be like I'm the second best podcaster on this podcast.

Jana Shelfer

Jason Shelfer

Let's create that the universe is always, always working in your favor.

Jana Shelfer

Jason Shelfer
