  • "How do I know if I'm making progress in my personal growth?" Progress often feels like a spiral. You may encounter similar problems or fears, but if you are responding with

From Negativity To Living Lucky

Jana Shelfer

Are you ready to create a life you crave? Let's spin that doom loop of negativity into an upward success cycle and start Living Lucky®. Good morning. I'm Jana. I'm Jason. And we are Living Lucky®.

Wanting Results Without The Reps

Jason Shelfer

You are too.

Jana Shelfer

Today we are talking about a meme, a phrase, an affirmation.

Jason Shelfer

Yeah, it came from John Maxwell, and it's how many people want to do what he does, but they don't want to did what he did is it's what is what it's like.

Jana Shelfer

They want to do the reps.

Jason Shelfer

Yeah.

Jana Shelfer

So they don't want to put in the work to get and have what he has.

Jason Shelfer

I want to be a thought leader. I want to be a coach. I want to be a success. Someone helps pe lead people to success. They want to be on stages. They want to be multimillionaires, but they don't want to do the things at the back end. So it's like a lot of people will just say someone is an overnight sensation. And they have no idea, like if it's a musician, how many, how many nights in the garage or in their room they spent playing a guitar or doing like honing their craft. And it's and it's one of those things where it's like there's a lot of in the middle when you're becoming who you are destined to be or wanting to be or that that goal you're striving for.

Decades Of Craft And The Spiral

Jana Shelfer

There's decades. There's decades where you are searching within, really. I know for me, I'm constantly painting, and then my painting kind of turns to sewing, then my sewing turns to music, then my music turns to intellectual, but I and then I kind of go in a circle. That's the circle I go to. And each time I'm climbing that spiral, one circle rung at the time. Does that make sense? But they're very, very small. So sometimes I think, oh my gosh, I've been here before. I've been, I've learned these chords before.

Jason Shelfer

And the thing is, we're all creators. Every, every single one of us is a creator. We're creating something. We've created our reality. And if the reality doesn't look like what you want it to, you have to name, name what it is that you look want, right? And then you have to build, go around those circles and go through your spiritual curriculum until you get there.

Systems, Assumptions, And True Creation

Jana Shelfer

Like you're not many times though, what is keep what is stopping us or keeping us stuck is it's been programmed into us. And we don't even understand it.

Jason Shelfer

Yeah.

Jana Shelfer

And it isn't a conscious thing. We think we have everything lined up.

Jason Shelfer

We think we're playing by the rules. We're we think we're working within the system. And the system is a construct that people have just put together to be safe. It's it's one of these things where it's like the people that are ultra successful have found a way to say, I'm not subscribing to the system, or they're people that are subscribing to the system, but they've put themselves on top of the system so they can create people in the system to work for them.

Jana Shelfer

Yeah, that's true. Uh go back to John Maxwell's quote.

Jason Shelfer

If you want to do what I do, you have to have you have to did what I did, is what it said. But that means you have to do what he has done.

Jana Shelfer

I don't know if the grammar's correct, Mr. Maxwell.

Jason Shelfer

My mom would be losing it right now. She's like, why are you even perpetuating that saying?

Jana Shelfer

We'll see if she's listening.

Jason Shelfer

Because I think he said it from stage. He said, if you want to do what I do, you have to you have to have did what I did. Which is still incorrect.

Jana Shelfer

Have done what I have done.

Jason Shelfer

Yes.

Jana Shelfer

And do what I do.

Jason Shelfer

Yes.

Jana Shelfer

And be who I am.

Jason Shelfer

If we're all creators, we can't just go buy the art and call it ours. Does that make sense?

Jana Shelfer

Rachel Ray. She takes some shortcuts, but she's made it Well, but we also don't know what it is. She's made that into her her genius.

Jason Shelfer

And we also don't know what she did to get to there, though. Because there's there's all these things that are in the background of people's lives that we just don't know about. But we make these assumptions.

Jana Shelfer

That is true.

Thoughts, Feelings, Behaviors Programming

Jason Shelfer

And there's so many assumptions. The thing is we know our own full story ourselves. And we don't know what's playing in the background that creates this pattern of what we do. So when we talk about doing what we doing what he did, we talked so many times about life is made up of your thoughts, feelings, and actions. Your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. If you don't know the program running behind your actions and behaviors, then you don't realize why it is you keep creating what you keep creating. That is true.

Jana Shelfer

Like we do go to through phases where I'm like, you know what? I've had the same scenario before. Oh, I'll switch towns, I'll switch friend group, I'll switch blah, blah, blah. So bam. And then all of a sudden, wait, I'm got the same issues.

Jason Shelfer

Buying the new car, right? We buy a new car and you take care of it so well, like right off the lot.

Speaker 1

Yeah.

Jason Shelfer

And you're like, this car's gonna be different. This car I'm gonna maintain. I'm gonna I'm gonna take it to the shop every time it needs it. I'm gonna keep, I'm not gonna eat French fries in it, you know? And then you eat the French fries, and then months into that you drop a French fry.

Jana Shelfer

I I'm not quite sure that's the same thing, but because that's a a little more of the newness wears off.

Jason Shelfer

Well, the thing is, your behavior's the same. Yes. So it's like you think everything's gonna be different, but you you're just trying to change the behavior. But what happens is you didn't change any of the subconscious programming back there of the value of what that car is giving you. It's the moving to a different town and realizing wherever you go, there you are.

Jana Shelfer

Yeah, you have the same things. Which is why I want to stop you right now, because you mentioned we don't know the challenges and the hard work that that people have put in.

Jason Shelfer

Yeah.

Jana Shelfer

I am doing a series right now called The Traits of the Greats. And I'm actually making it it's kind of my artsy little project, but I'm making wheel covers and I am studying people that have inspired me. That's and what's so interesting is you you think like what you were saying, you see their success and you think, oh, the stars aligned for them. How do I get the stars aligned for me? And then when you really start studying, they have overcome or they have turned, they have transmuted their emotions into their success. Right.

Jason Shelfer

And very so they transmuted their emotions into inspired action in alignment with what they wanted out of life.

Jana Shelfer

And what's really crazy, what I'm finding is those that have had instant success, where the stars just aligned for them out of crazy happens to or they were in the they just happen to be in the right place at the right time. They are the ones that later in their lives, things tend to go awry south.

Jason Shelfer

Yes.

Jana Shelfer

Very quickly. I mean, you can look at any child celebrity, child actor, and you can kind of see how they had instant success. However, they didn't do the reps.

Jason Shelfer

Yeah. What happens is is because you're you're not going through like a full spiritual curriculum, you got the cliff notes, yes, that you don't have the shoulders to to carry that weight.

Jana Shelfer

Yes.

Jason Shelfer

Like there is a there's a weight that comes with success. There's a there's a there's a a strength that you need.

Jana Shelfer

Yeah, let's don't call it a weight. Let's call it a strength. I think that has a better connotation.

Jason Shelfer

Yeah, and that kind of goes along with the reps because that's how you're building strength is continually to do the reps.

Jana Shelfer

And sometimes it's in the failures and the rejections that we are building the fortitude, the resilience, the perseverance, the discipline.

Rejections, Resilience, And Small Rooms

Jason Shelfer

Someone said uh the character isn't made in the great times, the character is found and polished in the hardest of times. It is so true.

Jana Shelfer

It is so true. So when John Maxwell says, in order for you to be up here as a speaker, a thought leader, and speaking on big stages, impacting hundreds of thousands of people, you have to do the rest and you will get there.

Jason Shelfer

Well, same with Tony Robbins. I mean, he talks about his first couple of conferences or or um I maybe like group coaching things, and only one or two people showed up. I think the first one, only one showed up, and that's the first one he talks about. Well, not the ones that he that he planned, and no one signed up, so he just canceled.

Jana Shelfer

The first one I did, oh it still has left a wound inside me. I had seven people there, and that's because I went into the other room and I'm like, you have to come listen to my thing.

Jason Shelfer

I was going around recruiting people.

Jana Shelfer

Like we were recruiting people in the library saying, hey, you've got to come listen.

Jason Shelfer

Hey, you're you don't want to miss this.

Jana Shelfer

I was crying, oh, so bad. I don't even want to talk about it.

Jason Shelfer

But we all go through that.

Seeing Life From A Higher Level

Jana Shelfer

And then, and you know what? I do feel like that wounded me a little to where I shied away from it, and now I feel like I am getting back to it. So we will come back to it if it is our destiny and if it is meant for us, we will come back to it.

Jason Shelfer

That goes back to what you were talking about with the circular, this kind of vortex that we're climbing, or this spiral staircase that we're going around. We're gonna start, we're gonna see some of the same things as we go around these spirals. And what it is is we're seeing it from a different level. Yeah, you know, and it's and it's having the awareness to say, am I seeing this from a different level, or am I still just going around in a circle on the ground floor?

Jana Shelfer

Oh my God. I love it. I'm I'm stopping there. That is so good, profound. That hit me. That hit me, and I have light bulbs.

Jason Shelfer

And sometimes we just need someone else on the outside to look help us look at it differently.

Jana Shelfer

Which is why we all need to hire a coach.

Jason Shelfer

Amen.

Jana Shelfer

I am uh that is that's been the number one thing that has helped me.

Jason Shelfer

It's a propulsion mechan mechanism.

Jana Shelfer

All right, we don't even need to go there, but yes, you are absolutely correct. Thanks for joining us.

Jason Shelfer
