We share encouragement for week one of a 21‑day fast, then walk through 1 Corinthians 3:10–16 to explore building on Christ, resisting comparison, and doing Spirit‑led work that lasts. We close by naming distractions, embracing conviction, and praying for bold obedience.
• replacing what you give up with prayer and time with God
• reading and unpacking 1 Corinthians 3:10–16
• Christ as the only foundation for life and work
• choosing materials that last under testing fire
• resisting comparison to guard motive and focus
• unseen obedience as work God rewards
• partnering with the Holy Spirit for lasting value
• living as God’s temple with visible fruit
• surrendering distractions to hear and obey
Thanks for listening. I am going to pray for us.
Hey life family. I just want to say it has been one week so far of this spiritual journey, and I'm so excited to just hear all the testimonies at the end of it and just see what the Lord has been doing in your life. And yeah, so I'm so excited to hear all the stories. God is so good. And I just wanted to encourage you guys, the ones who are fasting for 21 days, because the Lord had to remind me this morning that whatever you're fasting, remember, you are not just giving it up, but you are replacing it with prayer and replacing it with time with God. And he just reminded me of that. I was talking to God and I'm like, Lord, I miss something I'm giving up. And he's like, hey, you're not just giving it up, you're replacing it. And it makes it so it makes it 10 times 10 times more easier to give something up when you replace it with God. It really does, because He gives you the strength and boldness to keep going because He is such a good father. So I just want to encourage you guys and just say, so proud of you guys for joining us in the spiritual journey and very grateful. So let's dive into my Devo. I am going to be talking about 1 Corinthians 3 through 3, 10 through 16. So I'm gonna read it, and the version I have that I'm reading today is ESV, but I will be reading some of NLT later on. So I'll be bouncing back and forth. But so okay, let's start. 1 Corinthians 3, 10, 16 says, according to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master builder, I laid a foundation and someone else is building upon it. Let each one take care how he builds upon it, for no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now it is anyone now, if anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, each one's work will become manifest for the day will disclose it. Because it will be revealed by fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done. If the work that anyone has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward. If anyone's work is burnt up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire. Do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in you? Perfect. Okay. So to start off, let's understand who's writing it and who they're writing to. So we know Paul is writing this and he is writing to a church, right? So we we are the well, no, we're not the church. Anyways, so Paul is writing to the church. This is important because the church, they all have the same belief. They believe in God, right? Believe in Jesus. And you cannot choose the foundation. So we cannot choose the foundation. We all agree that it has already been laid the foundation, and it is Jesus Christ. That's what it said. But what we are choosing is what we are building, what we are building on the foundation. So that's what we're choosing. And at the end of verse 10, the end of verse 10, it says, each one take care how he builds upon it. So each in another version it says like, um, I can't remember, like, worry about yourself. So focus on you. We're not focusing on our neighbors at this time of, oh, you're using that to build on your foundation, you're using that and no, we are worrying about ourselves. In a world where we like to compare and compete, we cannot do that, right? We cannot do that, we cannot focus on that. Because that, if we focus on that, our works become meaningless. So we let's we have to worry about what goes on in our hearts, what goes on in our lives, and let's worry about what we are building and not what someone else is building. So the fire will show if a person's work has any value. If the work survives, the builder will receive a reward. And so Paul is not talking about salvation here. We're not talking about salvation. We're talking about rewards. And yes, heaven itself is a reward, but there's so much more, there's so much more to heaven and the spiritual life that we cannot comprehend. And I don't think we will fully understand until we are there and until Jesus comes back. Um so saying that is we don't, we won't really understand the rewards that we will have, or like what they look like, or truly fully understand, but we have to know that those rewards are so much more than we can even imagine, and so much they have so much more value than the rewards we will get on earth. So you okay, so you might be doing things which I have been guilty of, you know, feeling this way too, which is a normal feeling, of just feeling unseen when you might be doing things and you feel unseen and no one knows how much maybe you serve. Uh maybe no one knows how much you give. If it's you're giving your house, you're giving your time, your money, and you just feel so unseen. And maybe it's stuff that the Lord has spoken to you, and you are walking in obedience, you are doing the right thing, and doing, you know, your works is you being obedient to God's voice. When you are hearing from God and walking in obedience and doing the works that God has called you to do, that has value. And God sees you and he will reward you, right? He sees how much you give, he sees how much you work and how much you're being obedient, and he will reward you because he sees. He sees you and he sees every little detail. That's the thing I love about God is that he cares about the details. So when you do things just to do them, that is when stuff burns up, right? We're just doing it, oh, we're just doing it because either it makes me feel good or it's a good resume for my heaven, you know, like for God to get into heaven. Oh, I have a good resume, I have da-da-da-da. But if you don't have the Spirit of God, if you're not partnering, partnering with the Spirit of God and walking with Him and being obedient with God, those works will go up in flames. And so having, but if you have the Holy Spirit guide you and you're being obedient and taking action, that's where value comes in. That's where it has value. To end with verse 16, it says, Do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's spirit dwells in you? So do you not know that you are God's temple and God's spirit dwells in you? God's spirit dwells in us. And what I have to say is, let's start acting like it, right? Let's start acting like the spirit dwells in us. Let's show it, let's show it so much that people don't have to ask. They know by our actions. Um the spirit dwells in you. Are you walking? Are you communicating with, you know, are you walking with the spirit? Are you communicating with the spirit throughout the day? Like let our actions be the proof of what we believe. So I want to pray, but the things I want to take away from this is let's be just so intentional with God. And the thing that's stopping us from hearing God's voice, from being obedient, is distractions, right? Distractions. So I just want to encourage you guys, there's a distraction, you know, stopping you from maybe taking the next step with God, whatever that step is in your life, I just want to encourage you to surrender it to God. Thanks for listening. I am going to pray for us. Dear Heavenly Father, I just thank you. I thank you for whoever's listening, Lord. Lord, that whatever's going on in our lives, whatever distractions we have, we can just lay them, lay them down, Lord, and give them to you. Lord, I just pray for boldness and strength. And I just pray that you just search our hearts. Lord, I pray you search our hearts. If we need correction, Lord, I pray that you correct us. Lord, I pray you continue to convict us of things because conviction means we are close to you. Lord, so I thank you for when I feel convicted. I thank you for everything that you have done and everything you're going to do. Lord, I pray that you give us strength to be obedient to your voice, that the works we do will have value and meaning because we are being obedient and we are listening to the voice of God. Lord, I just pray and thank you for everyone listening. Lord, I just pray blessings over them. I pray you give them boldness and strength while we finish this spiritual, spiritual journey together. Lord, you are the reason. You are the reason for everything. And we just give you the praise and glory, and we thank you for everything that you have done for all that you're going to do. We give you all the glory. In Jesus' name. Amen.
