This week, we start Season Eleven of the podcast with Attack On Titan S1E1 "To You, In 2,000 Years: The Fall Of Shinganshina, Part1" and S1E2 "That Day: The Fall Of Shinganshina Part 2". We discuss concert crowds, Nolan's The Odyssey, and animation shortcuts.
Hello and welcome to season 11 of I'm Your Buddy with Nick and William, a podcast where two best friends are watching and discussing the anime series Attack on Titan. I'm Nick, who has never seen Attack on Titan.
SPEAKER_00And I'm William, and I've never seen Attack on Titan. And today we're going to start with episodes one and two. Episode one is To You in Two Thousand Years, The Fall of Shingon Sheena, Part One. And then episode two is that day, Colonel The Fall of Shingon Sheena Part Two.
SPEAKER_01Nice. Yes. Yeah, there was some confusion, and we're gonna try to figure out how many episodes we're gonna watch per episode of the podcast. But we were thinking about three, but William discovered that these first four episodes are each two-parter. So there's episodes one and two are two parts, and three and four are two parts. So I think that's why we're gonna uh split these first two episodes of season 11 of the pod, and we'll figure it out kind of as we go. Because yeah, it's kind of hard with multiple parters, which we ran into with Steven Universe as well, since they were so short. But um, how are you, William? It's been it's a bit almost been two weeks, actually, I think, since we recorded. I can't remember with Dave Jordan, but it feels like it's been a long time.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, we're we're on uh we switched our schedule up, so I'm still getting used to we record on Friday, so it feels even longer than what it normally was because I think we only took one week off the the week we put the trailer out.
SPEAKER_01And I forgot we took a week off too, so it does feel like a long time.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, the the Friday shift just makes it elongated, but I'm okay. I'm just oh dude, I'm super busy. Work is nuts right now, and I'm just trying to keep it all together and focus in on that. Outside of that, life is I forgot. Like a box of chocolates? Nope, absolutely not. I like chocolates. I don't love chocolates. I like chocolates. I could do without chocolate candy. I very rarely crave chocolate candy, and when I do, it's because it's blended with peanut butter from the Reese's company. So fast break, yeah. Yeah, fast break. Or take five, love a take five. Almost like love for a take five. That's a pretzel one.
SPEAKER_01Yes, as the pretzel crunch. I couldn't remember if it was a waffle or a pretzel.
SPEAKER_00No, the the waffle or the sticks, which are also good. Yeah. But Renegade by Sticks better than the Reese's sticks.
SPEAKER_01What's Renegade?
SPEAKER_00The song Renegade by the band sticks.
SPEAKER_01Gotcha.
SPEAKER_00One of the coolest songs. I'd have to hear it. You gotta hear it. It's one of the coolest. I'm sure I've heard it before. You absolutely have. They do a super cool thing where they do the epic, like chorus chant intro to make it very prog operatic, epic. Then you get into the song, it's just a rock song, and then after the bridge, they bring back that chorus chant thing, but in the rock version, and you're like, that's a cool move. Yeah, that sounds cool. Good job, you guys. I like that.
SPEAKER_02Nice.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. After uh Siri played Renegade by mistake. But um, no, other than uh life being chaos, I think it's okay. I don't know what to talk about. I'm gonna ask you, what do you want to talk about? You want to talk about music? You want to talk about the Odyssey? We gotta talk about the Odyssey.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, because we've watched a few things, uh, including the Odyssey over the past week. Uh we're not gonna talk Spider-Man. I can't see it till next week.
SPEAKER_00I haven't seen it yet. I'll try and watch it next week. I've watched a little bit of TV stuff. Okay. Yeah, music.
SPEAKER_01I don't know. What else were we gonna talk about with music?
SPEAKER_00Oh, I just want to ask you, did you like the Vince Staples?
SPEAKER_01Yes, I did. It's cool, right? Yeah, I listened to it twice on uh a couple runs that first week that it came out. Yeah, it's good. I like it. Yeah, yeah. I like it. Good stuff. I like it. Got a couple songs stuck in my head, and I was like, oh yeah, this is good.
SPEAKER_02Good riffs, catchy.
SPEAKER_00He's he's one of the one of the rappers that I'm like, yeah, you know how to do a hook. Yeah, it's a good hook. Oh, yeah. Yeah, he's good at that. He's good at an earworm.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, his choruses aren't always poppy hooks, but there's always a hook to it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that white flag song is very easy to get stuck in your head. Yeah, yeah. And also just goes without saying he's got a lot to say, and I love some militant shit. Yeah, I really do enjoy it. For sure. It's fun to get it. It's a very angry record for sure. Yeah, and I like that. Yeah, I'm here for that. Yeah, very good stuff. Yeah. Um, I have a problem though, dude. I don't know why I can't get into the new season of X-Men 97.
SPEAKER_01Oh, weird. I I keep forgetting it's on.
SPEAKER_00I uh I don't know what it is. I think I don't know if I'm watching it at the wrong time. Isn't it like Age of Apocalypse stuff? They're in a parallel thing.
SPEAKER_01So that's kind of it's tough when you get to parallel world stuff. And if you're not sure.
SPEAKER_00Because they're doing the past and the future. Oh, okay. Yeah, it's not parallel, it's just different timelines. There are the Egypt, some of them are in the past, and then some are in the future where apocalypse is taking over. Oh. So they're split.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_00The characters, but just split. Yeah, that can be kind of hard to do. There's something about it. I just I guess I'm not in the mood. They even brought in Scylock. I love Scylock.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_00I'm just like, I don't know. Just it's not grabbing me. Gotcha. I'm having trouble with it. I finished Widow's Bay. Awesome. Yeah, really good. Which Josh can recommend.
SPEAKER_01Was really telling us to watch. It's like funny, whatever. And I wish you wouldn't have told me it was the Lady Ghostbusters thing. No. Not for the reason of it being Lady Ghostbusters.
SPEAKER_00Well, yeah, because the movie's not great. Yeah. But this is you you'll love this and you'll agree with this. Okay. Two points, Nick. Don't think of her as a Lady Ghostbusters, think of her as the co-creator of Parks and Rec. Yeah, of course. But then also, this just solidifies Lady Ghostbusters is a million percent Paul Feag's fault.
SPEAKER_01I of course it is. Yeah, that's right.
SPEAKER_00And this shows it again of like, oh no, she's not her fault.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, no, you're exactly right. Yeah, it's not, I don't mean to It'll just make you hate Paul more.
SPEAKER_00Yes. And make you mad that she probably had a very potential heavy. It had to be.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, because she's good. For real. These are good characters. What before Ghostbusters 2016 came out, I'm like, this cast is stacked. There's no way this is gonna be a shit show. And Paul Fagas he's been okay until then. Yeah. And then it was fucking horrible. Um such a waste of the talent of the actors.
SPEAKER_00It's all him because is known for oh, these are great, interesting, unique characters, same as Widows Bay. Okay, that's what what helped sell the whole show and the humor, drama, horror. Uh for me, it was blended perfectly.
SPEAKER_02Nice.
SPEAKER_00There's moments where it's supposed to be scary, and I was like, Yeah, it's creepy, not scary, but creepy. And then the parts that are funny don't undercut the scary that they feel earned. It's like more character-based stuff. Situational and character-based, so you're still laughing, and then the drama still hits because you give a shit about the characters. Nice. It's a very good show. I really like eight episodes or something. Ten episodes. It might be ten. What's it on? Apple TV.
SPEAKER_02Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_00Which I guess is the one that everyone says is like it has the best shows, just no one knows about it. No one's watching these shows, and most of them are good. Yeah. Everyone knows Ted Lasso and The Morning Show are good.
SPEAKER_02Yep.
SPEAKER_00But apparently a bunch of the Apple shows are good.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I need to watch more.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, silo, Grant's big on silo. Yeah, there's there's big sci-fi stuff. Next uh, I think Neuromancer. Neuromancer is gonna be there. Yeah, there's a bunch of shit there. Uh music-wise, been listening to the new Strokes record, reality awaits. Very good. Is it?
SPEAKER_00Yep. I haven't heard any of it. And I've heard a few people say it's really, really good. Yeah. I haven't heard anything bad.
SPEAKER_01It's very good. Awesome. Yeah, they're they're mixing it up, but it it's a very good blend of like all of their well, maybe their early sound with their more recent sound.
SPEAKER_00What's their more recent sound if you had to describe it? Because I don't think I heard their last album either.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I don't know. Maybe New Abnormal was their last record. Maybe it sounds more like Angles to me. So it's maybe two records ago. So I don't know. It's this interesting kind of early period, middle period, and then now mixed with some wacky shit. Maybe that was stump coming from their previous record. You can just tell that they're like, Oh, we've been together for over 20 fucking years, and we're just trying to keep things interesting and have fun. You know what I mean? Yeah, and this like the actual the slow songs, my favorite song on the record doesn't have any drums, so it's kind of fascinating.
SPEAKER_00Um which is similar to First Impressions, right?
SPEAKER_01They don't they have a song with no drums that you really like on that one? Yeah, I'd have to re-listen, it's been a while, but and we saw them at Red Rocks. We haven't talked since uh Kira and I went to Red Rocks and saw them, and yeah, it was great. It was great. Yeah, compared to like last October show where we saw them at in Vegas. Better? No, I don't think so. Better, just different. They were just as tight, you know, kind of just as good. But that one in in Vegas, we were so close, we're on the floor, it's a small venue. Even they talked about that during the thing. They're like, hey, we haven't played a venue this small in a long time. That's cool, and it's really cool to come to Vegas and do it. And so it was like very personal. We were very close uh to the stage. Kiss Julian Casablanca, not really, we're weren't that close, but damn, called you out quick. I didn't know you were gonna fold so fast. You know, I wish, but you know, I just gotta be honest with the our with our audience, uh, full transparency. But so that was very intimate. That was this first time Ciara and I saw him got a very special thing, and where this is just like we're up in general, uh, so we're in the top half of Red Rocks, so they're they're far away, but we can see Denver in the background over the stage, and you know, the whole atmosphere is very cool, and they did great. So it was it was very cool. And Red Rocks is a a very cool venue, so Kira had a great time. And oh, good for Kira. How'd Nick do? No, I did too, but it was her first time there, that's why I mentioned that. Minus the opening bands, which I ranted to you and Grant and Colin about last week.
SPEAKER_02He wasn't a fan, which he let it be known, which yeah to me and maybe the bands and everyone around them.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, fuck them. Uh yeah, I don't know. I I think it's a conspiracy. I want I have to we're gonna have to see him a third time and see if the openers are bad for a third time, and then I know it's a strategy. Is he purposely picking? I know I know they're picking people that they like, but I'm like, these people play nothing kind of similar to the strokes. They don't play nearly as tightly and they're not poppy or good or anything.
SPEAKER_00But I know they've had only one good opener that I've heard of. But then I was like, I've never been somewhere where the opener was good. Yeah, I've never had that experience. I know that exists, but I've never had that.
SPEAKER_01And I would claim that, but I my concert memory is so bad that it doesn't really matter. And and that's actually something that we can discuss since we're talking about music and talking about red rocks. We'll get to the Odyssey before we gotta get to the Odyssey. We'll get to the Odyssey. Because I also saw that 70 millimeter IMAX up there. No big deal. When we were there, I kind of had a revelation of like, oh, I think this is why my concert memory is so bad. Because we talk about that a lot on this podcast. So it's always a it's one of our I'm your buddy bingos for those new listeners to uh season 11 of the podcast. I don't have a great memory, just whatever. I've known William for fucking 20 something years now. Yeah, he remembers stuff a lot better than I do. And actually, it's for someone like me, it's easier for me to just let shit go and then be like, oh, William's gonna Yeah, someone's got it. Yeah, exactly. You know, I'll hear about it later. Yeah, and hey, actually, we were talking for like 20 minutes before we recorded about people in high school, and I re reminded him of a couple people, okay? So it's not all a one-way street, it's just 90-10.
unknownAll right.
SPEAKER_01Uh but I was actively thinking about this because we were talking about Kira and I, when we were in high school, I was living in Roswell, she was living here in Albuquerque, we didn't know each other. But one of the things when we met, at some point we realized we went to the same AFI show at the Sunshine Theater, but we didn't know, right? Because I it was my first concert I drove up to see uh in high school, and she liked AFI at the same time. It was like Romeo and Juliet at the party, exactly. But we didn't see each other through a fish tank. Yeah. So I know what you're talking about. Good old baz. But I told her I don't remember any of that concert whatsoever. Okay. Only thing I remember is being outside waiting in line to get into the venue. That's it. And maybe like a portion of I I think we maybe we were on the balcony.
SPEAKER_00And how we did the drums for silver and cold.
SPEAKER_01Maybe a little bit. If we talked about it more, maybe more could come about it. But but my main memory, and whenever I think of that, it's like, oh, I remember waiting in line. Right. And I this happens a lot to me with that kind of stuff, and it made me think about it at Red Rocks because I was like couple watching, we were standing in line, people were playing games, and I told you guys about this, like seeing like the different couples. So you have the the preppy guy with the big titty goth girlfriend. Nice, and there was a TikTok lady who had kind of like this dumpy long-haired, and he's not dumpy, he's just like a diminutive uh long media medium long-haired guy who was filming her TikTok videos, and then he was having like a migraine. Mega cuck and he was and he was having a migraine in the middle. Oh poor baby. Yeah, he was like having a fucking meltdown during the the show, and yikes, she would alternate between like dancing and like being like, oh shit, and like rubbing his back and stuff like that. So it's like this is the kind of shit that I pay attention to. And while I'm watching the band, I'm like, oh yeah, I am in the moment with this stuff, but I'm like, the way that I take in concerts is exactly the way that I take in listening to music. So I'm not big on like live experiential experiences because I have a hard time being present, yeah, because I'm always in my head, I'm always thinking, and I don't find a lot of live events very novel. So like I'm not gonna like get the fucking chills every concert I go to or have some kind of emotional sponsor that's elicited because I'm thinking about the instrumentation. Yeah, I come from music, I you know played in bands 20 fucking years ago, and I always think about it from the instrument perspective and or the notes that the hit the singer is is hitting. I'm not even I don't necessarily always think about lyrics, these kind of things, but in doing it and talking, thinking about like oh fuck the drummer, he is so goddamn good, he's so tight, he's so on it, and all I'm doing is just watching him and like fucking getting into the music. I'm like, oh, this is so funny.
SPEAKER_00Getting into how tight he is.
SPEAKER_01You're goddamn right. Um but it clicked, and I'm like, oh, it's the way that I get into music that makes concerts not stick because when I'm watching a band play a song live, I'm just experiencing it's my brain is processing it and experiencing it just the same as if I was listening to the record. So after the song is over, it's like, oh, I just listened to that song.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, check it off.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's done. I experienced that, I lived in the moment. Something that happened in it like doesn't register as novel to me. I'm like, oh yeah, I've heard that song. That was great to see that fucking live. It was cool, they changed this little part. We're moving on. So it's just like uh there's some kind of disconnect in my head with uh I don't know, I I'm just not a big live experience person.
SPEAKER_00Also, with music, sometimes you're you're you're a little mechanical with it because you've done it.
SPEAKER_01No, I'm thinking about the guitar riff. I get that literally when fucking Reptilia the fuck it comes on the guitars, I'm like, I'm thinking about playing that song. You ever heard of that song? Exactly that one. Yeah, I'm like, oh yeah, I know how to play that song. So I'm gonna do that.
SPEAKER_00And then you're watching him do it, you're like, oh, that's how you do your your full strokes.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Yeah. I'm like, oh yeah. And I don't think it's a detriment. I don't, I don't feel negatively affected by how I do it, but I had never realized that that's how I think my brain is processing it, and that's why I don't remember concerts very well because it's just like listening to the album. I listen to the albums all the time.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So like I just saw a cool in-person version of those songs. So yeah, I it was kind of an interesting realization to come to. And yeah, I just I'm not a big live events person. I'm not a big that that doesn't affect you. Yeah, exactly. That part of my brain doesn't elicit an emotional sponsor very often. Yeah, because I was telling Kira, I'm like, I'm sorry, I'm so fucking boring. We're just sitting here, just not even talking about it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, in silence, you're just like taking it in, going, that's how that song sounds. They played it faster than the album, or the drummer plays it exactly like that.
SPEAKER_01It's not even that mechanical. I'll, you know, I'll dance and stuff to seven, you know, I'll be real, I'll be into it. But in terms of like, I'm very much a people observer. I'll just I could standing in line with me is extremely fucking boring because I can just sit and listen to people for a fucking hour and not say a word.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Like, because I'm just people watching, I'm just taking the scene in, thinking about what I'm looking at. But like, yeah, it's uh it's kind of a fascinating realization to come to that, yeah, just those those and I've always known I'm not a big live events person. Yeah, it's not your favorite. It's not my personality.
SPEAKER_00Not even to talk about all the anxiety of the the pre and post.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, getting parking there, where and when to leave and yeah, just social anxiety in general.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but yeah, it was just like okay, I process live music just like I process listening to a song. So that's why. Are you that different from Kira, do you think? I don't know. I don't know. And and Kira's an interesting kitchen. No, and that's and that's how, dude, for for real. So so I'll I'm gonna loop back to Kira. But one of the questions that fucking haunts me from the past decade of my life, uh-huh, probably the number one question that haunts me in terms of like who I am as a human being, is you when you got genuinely mad at me a couple times ago when Dave was on the podcast, we were genuinely mad at each other, yelling about God or whatever, right? And you said you never asked me one fucking question. And I was just like, holy fuck. I am a bad that's why I was like, I'm a bad friend. Because of course I'm curious about what you think, but apparently I'm not curious enough. And it's like I don't ask anybody any questions because I'm just in my fucking head so much. So that's that has shaken my identity, and I still don't know what to do with it. But so yes, I I and if she she said how she processes it, because she is a musician, she grew up playing piano, but yeah, she's also a creative mind like you.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, exactly. But she and that's what I was asking, is like I wonder if she's similar to you, and she's thinking of those mechanics of like the stage and them and performance. I have no idea because she also can relate, but she also never played guitar, she never played drums, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Uh you know, she wasn't a band. She's not a person. No, no, she's never cool. She's she's musically and rhythmically, because she's a dancer, she those two things go very hand in hand and she expresses herself through dance. So, like, it's is it it's more movement-based. And I was just thinking about people who are extreme music fans who don't play music. Yeah, I don't understand how they interact with music. I don't understand how their brains take it in. I don't know what hooks them. I don't know. It obviously elicits some kind of emotional connection, emotional feeling to them. But like in my little spectrum spectrum of your brain, I'm like, I don't know how those people's minds work, and I can't comprehend it because they love it in a way that is different from how I love it, I think. So I I don't know. It's it's ext it's very fascinating to me, and I'll I don't know if I'll ever know, but I guess probably I should if I ask questions.
SPEAKER_00No, because I don't. Me, me and my ex used to talk about that because uh nobody have you been to Red Rux before? I haven't. And I'm in the middle of like it sounds like a great venue.
SPEAKER_01I mean, how does that make you feel?
SPEAKER_00It sounds like a really cool venue, but a lot of people say the shows actually aren't that great because the sound's not that great. It sounds but it's the the the experience of it. And I was like, I don't know if that's where I want to go see a band I love then.
SPEAKER_01Well, it's just like I mean, you've if I think the sound is comparable to any amphitheater?
SPEAKER_00Yes, exactly.
SPEAKER_01Because it's outdoors. Okay, then you then you're fine. You do have the rocks on the side and they talk about sound resonating off of that. So even though you're very high up, you still get like the very tip top people still get a good amount of sound, so it's not nearly as open as an amphitheater is like the one here in Albuquerque. Isletta Isletta, yeah. It sounds better than that. Oh, okay. Then that's fine. Yeah, but it's yeah, it's an amphitheater here. But the seating is fucking great because it's it's super low. So I I mean I had a tall guy in front of me and he kind of blocked some stuff, but um shit. But no, he moved over, you know, as the strokes played. Yeah, I don't know. My brain is weird. Yeah, but it's it's a it's fun to come to those kind of realizations if it's like, oh yeah, because it's like I've experienced concerts like this my whole fucking life for from what I can fucking remember, and then having a moment of realization of like, oh, I think that's what it is. I'm just I'm just listening to a live fun version in person. I have a question for you. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00How and I'm trying to think of concerts we've been to. I can think of one example, but how do you fare when the the musicians are different from the album if you're so in your head about the album and the mechanics of it? The reason why I'm asking, and I'm getting this all in so we just get it, is in October, me and you have tickets to go see Jack White at Revel. You're gonna see the biggest. I'm just gonna fucking ask you if you bought tickets too. You're gonna be in his presence in a small venue that's gonna be fucking sick with tasty loud ass riffs. Hell yeah. But the thing is, is he plays everything. He plays a solo, he plays a rock on tours, he plays white stripe stuff with a full band. Yeah. So we're gonna hear guitar solos on songs that don't have guitar solos.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. So so I will How do you do with that? I will remember that more.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So those are the moments that kind of stick out to me. I really love when bands stick to the albums. I don't like live albums very much.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I have a couple, but it all if it sounds better on the main record, I'll listen to the record. I don't give a shit. I love the song. I don't really care about you know if if they're they're fucking mixing it up, and it all uh live albums are often not mixed as well as they are on the records. No, never. Of course. But when they do something off script or do something fun with a song, extend a song or something like that, I'll remember that about it. Like fucking uh Jordan from Every Time I Die doing fucking breakdown and throwing a guy out in the middle of it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, pause the song, throw him out, and while he's walking out, they go, We're gonna run it back and play the breakdown. And they continue to play the breakdown.
SPEAKER_01Like I remember that from that show. And I remember they, you know, and they're a tight, a pretty tight band too. So like yeah, I don't remember some other stuff from that. But like, so yeah, if they mix it up from the record, I will probably remember it more because that becomes novel. But if it's a band that's just executing the songs very well, then it's like I'll enjoy it in the moment a lot, but I won't necessarily have anything.
SPEAKER_00It doesn't stick.
SPEAKER_01Okay, yeah.
SPEAKER_00That's interesting.
SPEAKER_01Because I have, you know, certain memories of Coachella because they were novel moments that were unique to that festival or unique to that band or whatever. Yeah. Um Frashante always switches it up.
SPEAKER_00Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Every soul.
SPEAKER_00We were right there and we were fucking in front of him for the time where we were like, no, John Freshante is really good at guitar. God damn. Yeah, that was a that was a moment in time.
SPEAKER_01Something to fucking behold, that was for sure. But uh, yeah, William, how do you experience concerts?
SPEAKER_00One thing that you made me think of is I really do you people watch. I people watch on a similar level, but one thing What do you mean you people? You peo, I like that. Well done, Mr. Yeah, you're welcome. Yeah, that took you a second. I almost got you with that one. Because I was gonna say, oh, did I I assumed I said it wrong and I was gonna say it again. I was like, nah, you got me, you got me, you're quick. Yeah, is uh I like and it means a lot to me and it affects me watching the crowd respond to the music. Yeah, when a crowd is into it, that like warms me, and I'm like, oh, I love this, and I feel bad when a crowd doesn't because I don't. I'm the cross my arms guy, so when the crowd's cold, I feel bad, and I'm noticing that.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, we are the we are the fucking hard times meme of man in the back with his arms crossed, is having the time of his life.
SPEAKER_00I'm loving it, but I'm just in my head and nervous in my body. And that's why I say, like, uh honestly, I'm not really exaggerating. The biggest pit and the rowdiest crowd I've seen is when I saw Tyler, the creator for his uh the tour for the album Wolf.
SPEAKER_02Ooh, that's cool.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, he the people were so into it. Yeah, because it's a lot of younger kids and they're just cutting loose. It it does heighten the experience so much to see people really, really into it.
SPEAKER_02Gotcha.
SPEAKER_00And then we've seen certain bands where like the crowd is just like, what the fuck is this? And I'm like, eh, it bums me out. Seeing bands in smaller venues for that reason or bands that have a pretty heavy committed fan base like Me Without You, those are like devoted fans. I I like watching the whole front row sing the lyrics because they're that involved with it. That I I like that makes me happy. I hate that from an experience. I'm here for him. Yeah, and if they're too loud, I do go, eh, come on, shut up a little bit.
SPEAKER_01Exactly. That's what I don't like about it. But I love the experience like we all love them, we're here watching them just for the case.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, but there's something cool about like I'm a bad person. That's how much they're into it, and then also flip it. Could you imagine being him and seeing that many people like saying what you like?
SPEAKER_01That would never happen to me.
SPEAKER_00That's what I'm saying. Like, could you Nick imagine 80? Well, if it's the front row, let's imagine 15 to 25 people yelling, get Bush out, so we can live. I have had that before no more lies for him to give. Oh just how cool would that be?
SPEAKER_01I mean, it would be cool.
SPEAKER_00That's what I'm saying.
SPEAKER_01But I had you know, five people doing that.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah, and one of them was me.
SPEAKER_01And one of them was Graham.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, exactly. Yeah. Graham yelling at for the the with the might of three. Yeah, yeah, exactly. But yeah, it's uh I like a crowd. I like a crowd being engaged. That's that makes total sense for you. That uh that adds to it. I like that energy. That'll give me the chills more than what the band's doing. Okay. When the crowd's like going for it, I'm like, ooh, this is fucking great. But it also ties back into the uh I want to die all the time.
SPEAKER_01Well, it's living vicariously through people. Yeah, for wish you were that free.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, oh yeah. Speaking of the I'm your buddy bingo, Nick has a bad memory and William wants to die all the time. But yeah, there is that part of like, I'll never be that.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, there's envy to it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, watching a guy full volume sing lyrics to a song he loves, and it sh it helped him. And I'm just like, yeah, I wish I could do that to change when every time I die twice. I would never in a million years do that.
SPEAKER_01See, and I always with those people, especially at concerts, I'm like, they are just fucking hammered. That's definitely a big part of it. Yeah, that's I'm like, they're just their inhibitions are so fucking loose, and they were just having a conversation that was annoying to me during the opening bands or something like that. And they're just fucking there. It's hard to tell sometimes. We're debating it, but during the strokes, they're going nuts. They're a couple rows down from us, but literally they're just-I mean, they're they're Gen Z people, so they're filming themselves watching the concert. They have their their light on, so they're like, Oh yeah, but they're fucking hammered and really into it. While I agree it's endearing, I'm just such a grumpy person. I'm just like, oh yeah, these guys are just fucked up. They're gonna, I'm like, they're gonna feel like shit to me.
SPEAKER_00And you're right, because I hate that too. Okay, and I remember all the times we've been to a show, and I'm like, you're just wasted, and you're inhibition left, and you're being obnoxious. Yeah, yeah. I hate those people, but I like the person I've been to a show with says so much about me. Them, I'm going front row. This isn't my band, this is your band. I'm front row, and when that song comes on and you're singing it, I'm so happy you're experiencing this. Like that warms my heart, and I'm like, I love that you're having this moment, and I'm proud that this is this. And then a deep level of shame and sadness hits me of like, I'll never know what you're feeling right now. I'll never feel that in the moment or that happy.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00And then I get sad, and then I gatspi it from afar. I'm watching something and I'm de real, you know, like depersonalization. I'm no longer attached to the moment.
SPEAKER_02Yep.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that that happens to me, but like I do love watching someone with passion be in the moment. That's a beautiful thing. Yeah, it is different from the drunkards because yeah, I always hate that. Yeah, I always hate those people.
SPEAKER_01Gotcha.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that always bugs me.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, sorry, we're saying hate a lot, and then I I apologize uh right off the bat going hard.
SPEAKER_00Not that hard, because I'm talking drunk assholes. I'll stand by it. I hate that. You hated the bands at the beginning.
SPEAKER_01Oh we both hate the drunk assholes, which yeah, that I genuinely hated that I get that one. Yeah, I can't. If I remembered his name, I would say it, and I would hope that he hears this.
SPEAKER_00Yes, I would hope that because I would make it one of the the hashtags. Yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_01I'll also say, like Hamilton Light something, Lighthouser, like Gordon Lightfoot.
SPEAKER_00I haven't seen that many bands live that I was like, I hated that. Very few, honestly. I've seen some bad ones where I was like, eh, I get what you're doing. Definitely not for me. There's certain vibes, like uh you you can always tell someone when it's like, okay, yeah, you love bright eyes. I get it. Yeah, I get it. And I always hate a performative sad.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00That always gets me. I think because I'm authentically sad. When you're performative sad, I you're you're you're stealing valor and I don't appreciate it. Exactly. But I haven't seen too many shit bands.
SPEAKER_01No, I don't think I have either. Well, I did like so the first opener I just didn't enjoy. They're from Turkey, they're a psychedelia band. I don't not my thing. Yeah, it's not my thing. I'm like, okay, yeah, you guys just look like you're from the 70s. I don't like the idea of psychedelia. Yeah. The idea that I would have to ha take some kind of mind-altering drug to further the experience is like, no, just write better riffs and then I'll like your music. Or just write better music. I don't I don't want to have to be in the There's a crutch. Yeah, it's only good if you're different. Or it's enhanced if you're in a different state of mind. It's like, no, write better shit. I'm similar to them. So, but that wasn't my thing, but I didn't resent them for it. It's just not my thing.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01But the the the second guy who was just very fucking generic. Again, I I I won't go on the rant that I went on last weekend. Yeah, but he's one of it. But he's one of these guys who would start a song saying he's not gonna ramble about what it's about and that it's a metaphor for this thing, and then he starts the song, and in the lyrics, he mentions that thing. And you're like, why the fuck did you have to even go on about a metaphor? You fucking idiot. Yeah. If you were a better fucking lyricist and a better fucking musician, you would just express those things and we get it through the lyrics, but you're so fucking talentless.
SPEAKER_00Can I can I interrupt you and say something? Sure. That is why I hate with all my guts inside and all my shits that I shit during the day. That's a lot of them. I'm about to be Pink Floyd because of that. When people speak about Pink Floyd being geniuses, I can't help but think of you mean the s the the wall where they have the lyric, don't be another brick in the wall.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00And then the song ends where it's literally just a teacher being mean to kids, and there's the lyric saying, Hey teacher, leave those kids alone. Like it's the most literal. Yes. They have a song called Money with money noises, and I'm like, How the fuck am I supposed to think these guys are intelligent on anything?
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00When it is this literal. Yeah. I thought you guys were crazy, like deep drug metaphor, and then it's, hey teacher, leave those kids alone. I'm like, gee, I wonder what the song's about.
SPEAKER_01Is it is it that the fact that they said those things in the 60s or something, or is it that they were are they British?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, they're British.
SPEAKER_01So is it because they're British and they come from the stiff upper lip kind of thing? Is it a cultural thing?
SPEAKER_00But but what you're talking about is they could be political and progressive. Like, hey, sure, no one's talking about this and we're gonna talk about it. That's cool. I respect that, especially because, like you said, in Britain, uh, 80% of their songs are uh there's a kid that plays the pinball machine and I ride my bike, or I don't know what the British people sing about.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00But just queen songs, exactly. Just yeah, or the who. But like I get that, that's cool. But then when people start talking about like, no, you don't get it. I think I do.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Because they said it out loud.
SPEAKER_01It's just donors, it's just donors. That upsets me so much about being and that and it it was and again, it was revolutionary for boomers. Yeah, so that's we gotta keep it in that cultural context. But here's the thing is like uh I 100% agree with you.
SPEAKER_00You you you play the doors. There is a part of me of like, I'm not entirely sure what this song means. Yeah, to him, it means something. Sure. Okay, I can respect your your poet because you're saying weird shit that's supposed to mean something simple. Yeah, it's a Bob Dylan thing, it's a Kurt Cobain thing, you make it sound like a nursery rhyme. I get that, I can respect that, but when you're literal, yeah, I'm mad that people are now like, oh, you don't get I fucking get it. Yeah, he said it out loud, like your guy's example. This song's kind of sort of about like you can never go back home, and then the choruses, I'm like, Yeah, it's like go fuck all the way off.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's like if Pink Floyd was like, all right, so this this song is about being an individual and like not being another brick in the wall, and then they later say I hate that.
SPEAKER_02I hate it so much.
SPEAKER_01I don't know what people again outside of drugs in the culture and like pop prog adjacent music, it's like the pop version of that, I guess, because they have fucking long ass songs and all this shit. But yeah, outside of that and and and drugs, I don't get what the big deal is about being Floyd. But I haven't heard all their records, so but uh I'm I'm there with you.
SPEAKER_00They they they have an album called Wish You Were Here. I wonder if that's about them losing a friend. Wish You Were Here, yeah. I wonder. Yeah, it might be, who knows? Maybe because it's the most literal thing I've ever fucking heard in my life. Yeah, it bugs me so goddamn much.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it never never fucking grabbed me. And the only people who were into it in high school were fucking loser burnouts, yeah.
SPEAKER_00So yeah, no, that uh never gave it the time of day. I I had to complain about that because that always bugs me, and I think about that all the time. When anyone says anything nice about Pinkfoid, I just think that the lyric of hey teacher to leave those kids alone, like gee, who knows what this is about? What could that mean?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, wow, yeah, nothing like being lectured about, being lectured about.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah, yeah. Just like, I don't know, man.
SPEAKER_02Your stupid class system. Get the fuck out of here. Yeah, it's stuff we don't really deal with here, or in the same way, at least. No, we don't we don't we don't deal with it like that.
SPEAKER_00Not the same thing because we don't have it like that. We went to race, they stuck with class. It's true. And it's like, I don't know, say something interesting about it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Or break away from it. I don't know. Get out of here, you're stupid brick in the wall and your dancing scissors. Oh fuck off.
SPEAKER_01I know the animation doesn't help. There's something about that too.
SPEAKER_00Again, there's a there's a pretentiousness on a literal. Yeah, yeah. So it's like what? You can't do both. Yeah. You can't be so simplistic and pretentious at the exact same time. It makes me upset. Yeah. It it it bugs me. Yeah, yeah. It really bugs me. Pick a lane. Yeah, pick a lane. Yeah. Penny lane, the Beatles. They're from the Brit place.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yes. This is true. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Uh about a penny farthing, the stupid bike where the wheels are bigger in the front. Stupid ass bikes.
SPEAKER_01Maybe.
SPEAKER_00That seems very British. I don't know if that's a British. I hate the British and I hate the Spanish. I hate all this colonizing bullshit. I fucking jog on with the Brit shit. God bless America. I hate it so much. Up the fucking raw. God bless America. Uh can we talk about the Odyssey, please? And can we talk about Ludwig? Let's do it. Please, can we talk about Ludwig? Of course.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, we already discussed this a little bit last weekend. And yeah, w I saw the movie twice. Okay. I was gonna ask you how many times you saw it.
SPEAKER_00I saw it IMAX, South Valley, shout out, slowly becoming my favorite theater. And then I wanted to see it in film, and then the film projector broke, so they just played it in the fucking small ass theater as a normal movie. Which is fine. But I I did see it twice. One big fancy IMAX in Albuquerque and then just plain Jane.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I saw the big fancy IMAX in Denver, 70 millimeter IMAX film. Aging theater. A little bit of a dim uh picture. Yeah, not the best sound. Not the best dirty screen. Yeah, the sound was turned down, someone must have complained. I only saw it the once, but I'm seeing it on Sunday. Nice. The day before this episode comes out. I'm taking my in-laws to go to the South Valley AMC IMAX to see it digitally. But what did you think about Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey?
SPEAKER_00I want to start with this because this is coming up a lot with other things. I thought the trailers were bad. I thought the trailers didn't sell me, and I remember telling you, I don't think I want historical period Nolan. That's not what I'm here for, Nolan. I don't think he's gonna be able to pull this off in a way that's interesting to me. Yeah. So that's where I was coming in. I was like, I heard it's great, I heard it's cool, the reviews were positive, but in my head, I was like, I don't know if I'm gonna love this. Yep. Because I'm hit or miss with Nolan.
SPEAKER_01I think at a certain Well, in this period of Nolan is an interesting period that he's in.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. I don't remember what you don't like about Oppenheimer. Oppenheimer worked for me. I liked it. I don't love it. I liked it. I liked Oppenheimer. I was like, this works for me. Okay. Yeah, I like it. We're probably on the same page then. Yeah, it it's it's good enough.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I just my only honestly, my only complaint with Oppenheimer is he fucking missed an opportunity with the explosion. He's too dedicated to practical effects that he made the first atomic explosion look like a gasoline explosion. I'm like, dude, this is the whole fucking thing that really annoyed me. And I'm like, you're letting your ideal ideals and your filmmaking preferences get in the way of telling the story. Uh so that bugged me.
SPEAKER_00Which there's some of that in the Odyssey, but then I also think this is the first one of the first times where he broke away from that. But yeah, I'm coming in going, I don't love it. I d uh I can take or leave Nolan almost every time I watch him, I'm like, oh, this is fun. Just for context for the people listening, for me, my top three is gonna be Prestige, Dunkirk Interstellar. That's where I sit with Nolan. I think the Prestige is his best, it's my favorite. I think Dunkirk is all the things that he's not good at aren't here. Someone's already made the joke, but I'm saying he doesn't have to worry about writing a female character because there are none in this movie, and it's just tension and it's visual and it's what he does best, and so I think Dunkirk is kind of sort of perfect. And then Interstellar is such a fucking messy hit or miss, but the highs are big enough where I think about it all the time. Oh, yeah, I'm in love with the highs of that movie.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, three is hard for me. I I the that third spot is very difficult. But my favorite two Nolans are uh Prestige and Interstellar for sure. Maybe the Dark Knight for you or Inception, Inception's very cool, but it's also exposition heavy, like a motherfucker on rewatches. But yeah, Dark Knight's great, Dark Knight rises, I really like too.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that third spot's very it's and and uh that's something fair.
SPEAKER_01They're all pretty good.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, they're all very good. Like we talked about with Alex Garland. Yeah, you're not coming into a filmography where it's shit at a certain point. Yeah, the they all have their merit. So, with all of that stupid, boring no one gives a shit preamble about my thoughts on other Nolan things, I think that's why I don't ask you questions.
SPEAKER_02I know, because you think no one cares about your opinions.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and people do you validate it by not asking me about them. I'm just kidding. I really, really, really fucking liked it the first time I saw it. I came out of the the first time I saw it going like that's the shit. I know you were saying it might be one of his best. I I came out going, I I think it is one of his best because everything he does well and poorly is still here. There's bad dialogue, he doesn't work well with uh actors sometimes, and he still stands as a very, very Very bad action director with certain action, hand-to-hand combat, he doesn't do well. Big large scale, he doesn't do well. There's still confusing parts in the John Wick uh third act Batman scene, essentially, where he clears a room. But then again, there's also amazing parts of that scene. So I was like, I think this is top tier Nolan. Saw it a second time. I honestly agree. This is maybe top five.
SPEAKER_02Oh, and I don't know.
SPEAKER_00It's definitely not top three. This is four or five for me. Okay, sure. Because he did things, I was like, you know what? I never would have thought he was capable of the pig scene. I never in a million years thought he could direct and pull that off.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I didn't think he could pull off what he did with Athena.
SPEAKER_01The way he blends the fantasy elements is the most impressive part about the movie where you're like, oh yeah, he's where he's stretching himself. 100% agree.
SPEAKER_00And I didn't think he was gonna be able to land what he landed with Damon and Hathaway meeting and all of honestly, all the Ann Hathaway stuff. I was like, I don't know. He pulled it off, and I wasn't entirely sure he could. Yeah, all the setup and payoffs felt earned, and I think where and this would go into the bucket of Interstellar and uh how he treated the Nazis in Dunkirk, the siren scene for me, that's where Nolan shines because it's enough of a it's a spin on something. He's using the editing, he's using the visual, he's using the music, he's doing all of that for an emotional punch. Yeah, and it's immediately iconic.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Because when I'm coming into this scene, I don't know what I'm coming into, I don't know what he's gonna do with that. What he did with it is not what I would have guessed, not what other people have done. And I was like, that's why I go to a Christopher Nolan movie, because he's gonna do at least one of those, and that this is that, and that's where I was like, yeah, man, he's he can be the fucking man in moments. Oh yeah. Every inch of that was that for me. The the way he plays with the sound, the way he drops it out. Of course, he lets Ludwig come in and go, Hey, I need you to just shine for a good two minutes, and I need your uh your songwriting ability to get me a melody just like uh Zimmer did with Stay in Interstellar. Like we have something minimal, simplistic that'll stick with everybody. But also how he filmed the actual sirens where you don't know what you're looking at. Exactly. There's some that are animals, there's some are people, there's some are skeletons. It's enough for your brain to not be able to pick out what you're looking at, and it makes you want more.
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_00Every inch of that is I was like, Yeah, this is no one firing on all the cylinders. Yeah, super effective. Yeah, and uh that was a moment where I was like, this is one of his best films, yeah. And then the third act just kind of picks up a second bit of steam, and it ran. And when I saw it a second time, it c the movie itself kind of goes faster. I think where he stumbles. I mean, there's a play a ton of places he stumbles. One of the biggest places is with Calypso and Charlie's Therone. There should be more emotional hit with that, yeah. And there's not almost at all. And then a lot of the scenes with Damon and his crew, he loses a lot of the dialogue, he loses a lot of the acting and the drama and the gravity and the weight of what's going on. He loses a lot of that because it I think he's rushing because of the IMAX cameras, and then also there's too many moments while I'm watching this movie where I'm thinking that's not where that camera should be. Yeah, there's a better way to compose this frame, there's a more effective way to film this, and Nolan at his worst just gives you it. Yeah, it's just a medium shot, it's plain chain before he did IMAX. Like I said, I love the prestige. Go watch the prestige with the eye with the eye of how much of this is just inserts and pickup shots of close-ups or mediums, and that's all he does. Yeah, for the entire movie, just close-ups and mediums, inserts. There's nothing creative, camera work, visually composition, framing. He just doesn't do it. Yeah. And I don't think he wants to, and he almost never tries. He's not interested in composition, not at all.
SPEAKER_01In terms of an edit composition, yes. He's he's he's interested in the composition of a scene, yeah, but not visual composition.
SPEAKER_00Framing, he's never really telling you anything emotional with the framing. Yeah. And I think I felt it the most with the Hades. Because I was like, I don't know, man. I think any other director with Hoyta in Iceland in this lighting would have blown my fucking mind. Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_01And you're like, I mean, think of what Greg Flasier would have done or something like that.
SPEAKER_00No, yeah, think of what Denny and Hoyta would have done. Oh, that's true, yeah. Think of any director in Hoyta would have done. Yeah, yeah. Think of Gore Verbinski in Iceland with that.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00You're you're looking at like you're looking at some epic images there with any other director with this level of cinematographer. So that's where it hit me of like, I just don't like how you you're in the clis, you're in the Clint Eastwood Ridley Scott mind sometimes where I think you go, I just need you to show it to me, we're good, move on.
SPEAKER_01Exactly. I'm capturing something.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's not enough.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, you're not telling a story with the camera, you're capturing stuff.
SPEAKER_00That's my favorite with directors, that's my favorite shit. And there's too many moments in this film where I was like, uh, you could have, and I felt it and I was looking for it. Yep, and I noticed it, and I was like, Yeah, there's another way to frame this. Camera should be somewhere else.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, this isn't TV.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah. But no, uh uh two times in, I really like it. This is top nolan for me. And it's also like it's fucking fun, dude. This movie's fun.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I'm excited to see it again. I uh really did enjoy it. I haven't thought about it much after having seen it, which is a little more concerting, and I think it is to some of the music. I need to I need to see it a second time before I give my full fucking opinions on it. But I I agree. It feels like it's somewhere in the middle of his filmography because it is like a it's a cool feat. It is, it's it's you know, it's not some kind of monumental undertaking of a story that I feel like he's executed, but I think for him having executed mythological ideas and some of the war themes that he explores with it, like that's the stuff where I'm like, oh yeah, this is super impressive, this is cool.
SPEAKER_00And he kept it and it and it for me it worked and paid off at the end, yeah, where it wasn't just like a message tacked on. I was like, no, I I do feel this. Yeah, yeah. I I think it worked. Burnt all helped. Yes, the way he tells his portion. I was like, this helps keep it grounded in an emotional grief and I think guilt.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I I agree with you that the the stuff on the boat, he doesn't do it as well in terms of like the acting and stuff like that. Like, because Damon's great in it, especially yeah, when he's having that realization in the third act of of war and Zeus's law and also I fucking love that. Yeah, he does extremely well there and the supporting casts, so fucking good. Yeah, like you said, Burn Tholf, fucking John Leguzamo. He's my favorite part of that fucking movie, I think.
SPEAKER_02Um Pattinson Shadow Pattons. Yeah, exactly. He knows how to just the fucking beggars meme and all this stuff that's everywhere.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, he's having a great time. Yeah, that the the portion when he's captaining the ship and they're trying to get home, I just don't get a sense of the time that's passed. I I I don't get a sense of connection between the two. And especially with like I mean, that's one of those things where obviously we're telling a story about about these things, but like them on the beach and it's like, oh, it's been 10 years. I'm like, I don't feel like it's been 10 years. Yeah. And like you have to tell me. You gotta show me. Yeah, like it doesn't seem like like 10 fucking years of the same dudes. Like, no, I don't, I don't understand. I wanted to see fucking Lord of the Rings army shit. Like, and I didn't I you know, we get glimpses of it a little bit after you know, during the Troy uh when they let him in the gates and all that stuff, but like on the beach, no, no. I need to see like how many fucking thousands and millions of people that were thrown against the wall for 10 fucking years. I need to see that, yeah. So yeah, there's definitely room for improvement. I think he's in an interesting period of his career. Like what do you follow up after this? I'm I'm super curious to see. But it feels like whatever he does next is gonna be different. This feels like a turning point in his career.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I I think the calypso, which is so funny, I didn't I forgot about that part of the story. And when she said her name, I was like, oh shit, I forgot there's witches. Like, I literally laughed in the theater because I was like, I forgot. And when she said her name, I was like, oh shit, we're in for something because I forgot. But I think the calypso, I think the giant island scene, those are two that showed me Nolan is stretching and doing something he hasn't done. The way he did the trees moving during the giant fight, I was like, that's that's a different Nolan.
SPEAKER_01That's cool, yeah.
SPEAKER_00That's a very different Nolan.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, he's being more playful, yeah. Yeah, and it's fun to see because he's such a literal person and so calculated. So seeing him, yeah, and the pig transformation stuff, that's I really like that. It's fun, it's fun. You get subjective, almost subjective camera work more than in his other stuff. Yeah, so it feels like he's playing with it, where you're like, okay, good, you're not just trying to give us this fucking medium.
SPEAKER_00I I love the score, I think it's great. I've been listening to it on its own. I think that's a thing that Ludwig's working really well with Nolan for three. I I think he knows how it'll work with what Nolan's doing because tenet is sensory overload, and it is literally telling you you're not supposed to be paying attention that much, just kind of go along for the ride. And the score does that. And I think Oppenheimer, when I watched it, that was the thing that kind of kept that movie together for me. Yeah, is how much the score's in the front. I really like the score in Oppenheimer. Yeah, and I I felt the same here of like this does feel unique, this does feel original, and it feels like he's matching emotionally what Nolan wants to sell in these moments. I I really like the score.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, see, I gotta I that's one thing I gotta solidify is how I feel about the score having seeing it a second time because my first takeaway after the first showing was I want Zimmer back with him.
SPEAKER_00Do you mean Zimmer other than Interstellar Zimmer, though? That's always my problem is other than Interstellar Zimmer. I kind of lose the plot on how good Zimmer is. I know he's good. I'm not gonna sit here and say, I think of the Batman stuff is so fucking good.
SPEAKER_01The Batman trilogy. Or sorry, the Dark Knight trilogy before all you fucking millennials came out of me. Yeah, this is true. You almost fucked it up.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I just it has but I think it's the same thing as like to me, it has moments, the whole score doesn't work for me where it's selling all of the emotional beats in those films, but I I wouldn't be able to say definitively because I don't remember. Yeah, I remember the Joker theme and I remember the end. That's it for the Dark Knight. I don't remember the score elevating anything in the dark knight beyond those two. And then in the dark knight rises, it's just the end. So I would have to watch it again with the mindset of how how much of the work is Zimmer doing here.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, for sure. And with Interstellar, it's just like he's doing a lot of work.
SPEAKER_00Which is, I think that's uh that's a one-of-a-kind type of thing.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, for sure.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so I'll I'll be curious to see uh what I think about the score afterwards. And that's what I was gonna say, when you listen to it, other than the siren part, that's the cheat code. That's the obvious that works for the score, all the other bits, because we know the sirens, the iconic thing that Ludwig did, but to defend it, I would be like, Does any other part work for you? Sure.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and I'll I'm gonna pay attention to it more this this time around. Yeah. Uh but I'm looking forward to it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's a fun ass movie. That's uh at the end of the day, that's my thing of like is really fucking fun too. Beyond it being just you know, good and the craft and Nolan doing something, blah blah blah blah blah. It's like I had a lot of fun.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Speaking of weird what? Speaking of giants, yeah. Speaking of giants, speaking of weirds, speaking of music, uh, speaking of realizing things about yourself. Okay, attack on Titan. So we didn't decide what we were gonna watch for season 11 for quite a while until kind of that final week as we were finishing up Alex Garland. And just like with season 10 of the podcast, where we wanted to change the format a little bit just because we we got to 10 episod or 10 season seasons. So instead of watching a director's filmography, hey, let's do a screenwriter, right? And and see how other directors direct their writing and how do they direct their own writing, you know? So instead of doing for our next television season where one of us has seen and loves it and the other person hasn't, we wanted to be go with a a maybe let's try a show that neither of us has seen. Yeah, switch it up. And we had a few options, and for a while we thought we were gonna stick with one, but the more we talked to uh our friends about it, it just sounded like everyone said please don't do that, which it makes sense, yeah. I I I kind of agree. And was it Sean that brought up Attack on Titan? Was it you who brought up Attack on Titan?
SPEAKER_00I have uh friends at work, they don't know I do a podcast, but they were talking about anime, and they both just separately brought up Attack on Titan. And they had one thing to say, because I told them I've never seen it and I might. They only had one thing to say. They said at a certain point in the show, something happens and it made them rethink everything, or like how they view life, and like it hit them. Or they're like, Oh, there's something in the show that does that. Then Sean to me and you told us you guys should do Attack on Titan, and then he pretty much said the exact same thing.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, he's like it it altered the way that I think about stories, yeah, or something like that. Something I mean, it's just like yeah, that's a good thing and shout out, shout out Sean.
SPEAKER_00He was texting me, he's so fucking excited we're doing this, and he must be so bummed that we've spent over an hour and we haven't even gotten to it yet.
SPEAKER_01Exactly. And yeah, other so in in addition to Sean, who's been uh two-time guest, Kira's cousin Alan Alex Alan, you fucking idiot. Kira's cousin Alex, who was a one-time guest on the on the pod, also said he's on season three. He just started watching it. So he's like, You guys have to have me back. Oh, awesome. Oh yeah. Yeah, yeah. So we'll we'll have Alex on at some point uh while watching this. So yeah, we've got some pretty good feedback from people, and we're sticking with the animation theme. We've done a couple animations uh seasons with Steven Universe, and then we dipped uh which was anime adjacent, and now we dipped into actual anime with Evangelion a couple seasons ago. Yep. And now we're up to 2013. So this is a more it's not a new show, it's recent, but it's more recent than Evangelion, which was in the 90s. So what did you think of these first two episodes of Attack on Titan, William?
SPEAKER_00It's hard for me to get back into the groove of a show I've never watched because what I did a lot of is trying to figure out how are they doing what they do. Like, okay, how are you gonna tell this story? How much of it's you know, secrets and uh set up payoffs, and also how are you giving me information? Like the little diagrams uh from commercial break cuts in.
SPEAKER_02Yep.
SPEAKER_00And because of Evangelion, I'm also looking at how much does the theme song relate to the show itself. Yes, which I didn't write them all down, but holy shit, there are a lot of pretty metal lines in that theme song where I was like, there's a lot of lines in here that are pretty metal.
SPEAKER_01I need to rewatch it, yeah. I didn't, I skipped it. Well, the first time I watched it. What a hater. I know, I know. I've I was being bad, so I'll rewatch it. Well, I just didn't want spoilers, you know what I mean? Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00But I'll go back and watch it or next time for for two episodes to open to a show that I know nothing about except there's a village and giants uh attack it. I liked it. There's some stuff I didn't love, and I was like, alright, I gotta buckle up with some of this. But I'm deeply intrigued because it's all mystery. I don't know what the Titans are, I don't know what they're doing, I don't know why they're smiling, I don't know why they're naked, I don't know why there's different sizes. Why is one with no skin? Like, there's I can tell the same thing I felt when we started Steven Universe is I'm in good hands where I think everything's going to be explained. Yeah. I immediately felt that. Yeah. Of like, this is gonna be a fleshed out world that they're gonna slowly walk me into. I always loved that. My lore ass with Elden Ring and Dark Souls, I was like, this is gonna be fun slowly figuring out this universe.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So that that was my biggest positive takeaway. My most critical takeaway. I think it's cultural. Okay, I think it's a style choice, I think it leans into a certain animation thing. I don't love when everything is yelled. Yes, every line is a yell. I know just like you gotta stop yelling at a certain point, please.
SPEAKER_01And it shows talk. It shows that we're getting old. Yeah. And shout out to to Mike Sanchez, friend of the pod, who will be on later this year.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Uh just kidding. He never likes watching anime or reading manga because they always seem like they're yelling. He said this years ago during shouting, and we've always given him a hard time about it. But goddamn. So I'm gonna speaking directly to you here, Mike. Do not watch this show because if it's bugging up me and William, yeah, do it. And look, the protagonist, I believe his name is Aaron, he's a very brass young man, and these first two episodes are hugely set up. Basically, at the end of these two episodes, we have a three-year time jump, which happens in two minutes or something. Like, it's kind of hilarious how fast it happens. But he you're establishing a character, which that's how I could kind of forgive it a little bit, but dude, halfway through the first episode, I was telling Karen, like, this guy needs to fucking chill. He is just fucking yelling, going and the adults are like, dude, you need to calm down, I you know.
SPEAKER_00But thematically, I think it kind of works so far in terms of like young people wanting to change the world and being brash, and this this guy's supposed to be very headstrong because all the adults he's doing with all seem to have PTSD and they're all crying, saying I'm a fucking coward.
SPEAKER_01Exactly, and they're not yelling. So I'm like, okay, so it's not every character, but this main guy, Jesus Christ, love it. Yeah, yeah. I I I 100% agree with you. That's just one of the many things that I had to actively tell myself to calm down about these because I think if I watched this 10 years ago and we weren't doing the podcast, I would watch this first episode and I wouldn't start the second episode. I would say, nah, I fuck this, I'm not gonna watch this.
SPEAKER_00What's another thing that makes you say that?
SPEAKER_01I have many issues with the animation. I had many issues with the music. The eyeballs? Uh no, not necessarily.
SPEAKER_00So it's just it's one of these things where it's just like it's too shiny. That was bugging me. The shined yellow tints.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, the I don't love it. The color palette is very yellow, but watching it, my first impression is this feels icky, this is too on the nose, I'm not interested in it. Medieval stuff mixed with a a a tinge of of steampunk, not my style. But after I finished both episodes, and I was thinking about I wasn't really digging this kind of avatar.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01But then I was like, you know what? One, these are this is technically like a a pilot.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And pilots are often not good. Pilots are extremely difficult to watch because they're mostly set up. And the creators of the property, this is the first time they're spending any time uh telling this story. Yeah. So I'm like, I can't give it an air unfair shake. And I can't compare it to other things. So this ties into my whole, I only listen generally to one or two bands of a genre.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01It's because I always end up comparing. I'm like, I like this better about that other band. That band defines this genre for me, so I'm not going to listen to this band that also plays that same type of music. Like with anime, like if I'm going to go crazy fun action anime, I'll I think a neon Genesis Evangelian. We already watched that, but guess what? It was made 15 years before this in a different era of anime. Yeah. With a different type of animation style, with a different budget. And I'm like, and it comes from something that's a source material where there is a manga for uh Attack on Titan. There isn't a manga for Evangelian. It was purely an anime before they adapted it into a manga. So I'm like, okay, so these people are interpreting this guy's story and they're bringing it to life. And they don't have all the money that this single season of Evangelian is. And guess what? They ran out of money when they were making Evangelion, and they had to do a clips episode, and they had to do the final two episodes. Yeah. And people didn't like them. And a certain part of a shadow, but that's all they won't. Exactly. So I don't know if Attack on Titans are going to end up being that way. But but I was like, I'm seeing a lot of animation shortcuts. The backgrounds are gorgeous, but the way the characters are rendered, thick lines, and you have even some of the action scenes with the Titans coming in, it's you're panning up on a still image. Yeah. And when people are really intense or something intense is happening, you're just doing shitty speed lines, either going vertically on both sides or horizontally on both sides. And I'm just like, this isn't effective to me. And you have the a couple POV shots, like right when Aaron wakes up at the beginning and he sees Miska. I can't remember her name. I forgot her name too. But it's like it's his in his perspective, and it moves and it like it blinks and it focuses. I'm like, I don't like that. I want classical animation. Don't fucking do that. Uh, you have a CGI belt, like you have all these little things. Yeah. But I'm like, Nick, that's not fair. That's not fair to this. Don't compare it to other stories. Don't compare it to other things that you like. Let's see what is unique about this and let's just see what story it's trying to tell. And using using its own tools of the time. Because I'm like, yeah, they probably didn't have a fucking. I know that animation studios get bogged down with schedules and not having enough money and all this kind of stuff all the time in anime. So I was like, we'll see how it goes. Maybe the animation gets better as it as it goes, but I'm I'll at least get used to it. Let them tell the story. And be fair to them, this is just a pilot episode. So looking past some of those things, some of the music, I'm like, I'm not digging. I don't the metal, the metal music, it's not for me. I don't like pop, speed metal. I I don't get it. So I'm like, it's just as distracting because if everything's epic, nothing's epic. So having him run down the fucking alleyway to fucking beat up some bullies and you have heavy metal music, speed metal, pop playing. Yeah. And then you have a Titan come in and you have the same thing playing during a Titan fight. I'm like, nah, I I it's but you gotta you gotta pick your moments, you gotta have the ups and downs, which maybe they will. I just it a lot of this rubbed me the wrong way.
SPEAKER_00It's not your preferred style.
SPEAKER_01And I stopped myself and was like, no, let's give this a fair shake. Because I think if people say it gets good, then it gets good. And pilots are fucking hard. Yeah, not everybody can be Friday Light pilot. I hear you. And then in the second episode, we just have that time jump, and you're like, okay, this is clearly just like this is just the setup, and then the actual story is gonna fucking start. So now he's in the military. So it became clear, you know what I mean? But I like a lot of the themes that they're bringing in, you know, the haves, the have nots, the the young kids wanting to change the world while adults kind of only believe in stasis and getting by and that being enough. So like I like that brashness. I I I like stories about kids who want to kind of break out of the mold.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And then I mean, it's clearly a story about trauma because for the people who don't uh watch the show and are gonna just listen to us talk about it, I kind of can't stress, and look, I think I have a reputation, at least with it with you know, some of my coworkers at work, and even I think we have this reputation a little bit with our friends of like we enjoy depressing shit.
SPEAKER_02What?
SPEAKER_01But I cannot stress enough to the people who aren't gonna watch this how it this is fucked up. This is extreme like very bloody, pretty fucking gory, but also just bleak, not just depressing, and I'm sure we'll get fucking depressing stuff, but this is a bleak show from these first two episodes. Spoilers, Aaron, our main character, watches his mom, whose house got fell on her and crushed her legs. He watches her get eaten by a fucking titan. Chomped on, chomped on like a little snack, and the blood almost comes and gets on him as he's being uh forcefully towards him. And yeah, you see a lot of trauma, a lot of fucking blood and fucked up stuff, and it just is yeah, bleak is the best way that I could put it. So it's like this isn't an enjoyable two episodes to watch, like it just isn't. It goes from you have this kind of setup of this is our world, which I like that they kind of explained it in the second episode. This is our world at some point. These giants who were humanoid were unleashed upon the earth somehow, and they literally eat people, and it wiped out a fuck ton of the population. So humanity built giant multi-kilometer ring circle cities with three giant walls. Obviously, the most rich and the most protected are on the inside inside behind the highest wall, and the outskirts are where they grow food and blah blah blah, right? And um, there hasn't been a giant Titan attack in a hundred years, because this happened a hundred years ago. And so we go from this is the first attack in a hundred years, the city, which is on this little nub of one of the outer walls, I think it's like the middle wall, gets attacked by titans. Our protagonist and his best friends uh basically become refugees in the inner wall. His mom dies, everyone's kind of starving, and they're really mad at the our main character's really mad at the Titans, wants revenge on the Titans because they killed his mom. And we have Remember the Titans. And we have and then right at the end of the second the right at the end of the second episode, it does this silly year by year, three-year time jump, like I said, over about two or three minutes. And it's like there's a right after this scene of they're they're starving and they're trying to get rations, and then they cut to a year later. It's like, well, and they sent about, you know, a year later, they sent a hundred thousand troops out to try to reclaim the city, and uh 90,000 of them died. Yeah, and it shows his friend and his dad's dead now, and then it's like and it shows them dealing with that for about 30 seconds, and they're like, you know what, I'm gonna fucking I'm gonna join the military. And his friend is a pacifist, and then his friend's like, Oh, I'm gonna join you too. He's like, when I'm old enough in a year, and then cut to the next scene, it's a fucking year later, they're all three in the carry. Yeah, it's just like I'm like, I think I would have done that a little bit differently.
SPEAKER_00This is another go-around, you can figure this out.
SPEAKER_01Exactly.
SPEAKER_00We we could find a better make them that age now, exactly.
SPEAKER_01Why, and then we could reveal all this stuff, but yeah, uh I I would make many different choices, but I'm like, hey, it's a pilot episode, let's just see where it goes. Because a lot of people are kind of fascinated with this show.
SPEAKER_00It's a big deal, yeah.
SPEAKER_01It is. I remember I've seen some of the action scenes. I'm like, I know that this gets crazy, and that's why I was also forgiving of some of the animation too, where I'm like they put all the budget in the action, probably.
SPEAKER_00Because they gotta do a lot of still frame shit. Exactly.
SPEAKER_01So, so the CGI bell was weird. I didn't like it. Um that's how some of that the fucking Evan Galen rebuild stuff is, and that's how Avatar is.
SPEAKER_00Sometimes you'll get a random CG and a micro. Yeah, or Korra and stuff like that.
SPEAKER_02I love Korra. Me too. Let's watch Korra.
SPEAKER_00I'm just kidding.
SPEAKER_01I'm just kidding. I was rubbed the wrong way in many ways, but you know what? I'm gonna give it a I'm gonna give it a try.
SPEAKER_00It's said every girl about William.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01I mean, that's fair, you know.
SPEAKER_00I liked it a lot more than you. I think I didn't love the the color palette. I didn't love the yellow pea tint to everything, the shininess. Yep. I didn't love the yelling. Other than that, I'm kind of on board. I like the as it's called omnidirectional mobility gear. Just because that looks unique. Weird harpoon slingshots connected to legs. It's like, yeah, I've never seen that. That's gonna be fun. Yeah, yeah. That's cool, that's unique looking. Yeah, yeah, giant, giant, giant, giants just eating people with a creepy smile on their face is disturbing. That works for me.
SPEAKER_01I like that they're already hinting at lore. There's already big religion vibes. Yep, there's already errands having dreams that may be premonitions that maybe happened or haven't happened yet.
SPEAKER_00He saw some of very similar images of the Titan attack. Exactly.
SPEAKER_01And his dad's a mysterious doctor who has a key that is a key to the truth. So I'm like, okay, I like some of these seeds that are being planted, and I think we're like tour some of this stuff.
SPEAKER_02What time signature is that, William?
SPEAKER_01And I hope Dave answered, and if you did, fuck you, Dave.
SPEAKER_00Jesus. So unnecessary. Dave, I agree, but to a slightly less aggressive extent. Okay. Sorry, just kidding, Dave. I love you. Just kidding, Dave. We like you. I mean, we love you. Nick said love you. I agree. I can't concur. Whatever Nick said, I'm I'm fine with. All right, let's I'm glad you're I do want to say I did like these episodes. I do think this is uh gonna be a cool show. I left the the two episodes going, yeah, I I do want to keep watching it. The the animation and the yelling were my two big takeaways. The the score, I I think I just chalk it up to yeah, that's what you're gonna do.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I don't know outside. Cowboy Bebop's a cheat. I get it. Yeah, I don't think I've ever watched an anime where I was like, oh yeah, this is awesome score. I you know how I feel about the Evangelian theme. It upsets me still to this day. Sure. It's very upsetting.
SPEAKER_02I'll just use the word upsetting. A cruel angels thesis is fucking banger.
SPEAKER_00Yep, and if I told you that's the name of it and what the show's about, and then I played you the song, everybody would nod and go, Well, yeah, obviously that's what a song called A Cruel Angel's Thesis.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, the lyrics. Take my love, take my land.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, we're off to Never Never Land. Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So stop panoring today.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I'm trying to get him on my side. Because he doesn't like Firefly. I I uh I don't care about the music because I kind of just assume I'm not gonna like it. But I am excited for the show because I already think there's gonna be a lot of weird story things that are gonna pique my interest. Yeah, I think one of them was when they were in uh episode one when they're running around outside. They talk about like the first stronghold outside, the first human thing, and they're like kind of hunting the titans outside the wall. That felt weird because there's something to me that I'm intrigued by of what are the titans doing? Like, are they just wandering about like zombies and then we just go fuck them up?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, why?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so I was like, ooh, I like this, yeah, I like this idea, and just the general uh different sizes and shapes of them. I'm like, yeah, I don't get it. I want to get it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah, sure. That's cool. Yeah, understand what's happening. Yeah, as soon as it started getting into like with his buddy actually talking like legitimate full of like shit of like the government's policy is just a reflection of our fears. I'm like, okay, I think I'm in on this. Yeah, I think I like this, yeah, like just that young brash idealism where I'm like, I can relate to this. Oh, I I my line hopefully they start a band and it's Phelps.
SPEAKER_00We're dead and standing at the gates of hell. I was like, okay, yeah, that's that one's for me.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and yeah, we're looking at random stuff right now, but his mom screaming to him to stay alive, and then she starts crying, and before she gets eaten, she says, Don't leave me. Yeah, it's just like horrible. Fucking hell, dude. Horrible.
SPEAKER_00Why would you make her say that before she dies? Fuck me. She said go away, and then at the end she's like, Yeah, but not really. Come, you're supposed to come get me.
SPEAKER_01Don't want to die alone. It's sad being eaten by a giant weird smiling monster.
SPEAKER_00Oh, here's another thing I didn't like about this show. I don't anime titles. Guys, what are you doing? Yeah, pick a thing. I know. It's four different titles. Yeah. Stop it. It must be a translation thing. You know what I mean? It's a it was a thing with Evangelion. So I'm I can be racist and judge it too much. I I feel racist if I judge certain parts of this.
SPEAKER_01I and we have to probably stipulate uh for the purists out there. At least I'm watching the dub. Me too.
SPEAKER_00I'm taking notes. I have to because otherwise I'll just a lot of pause and rewind. Exactly. Yeah, yeah. And I'm a lazy guy.
SPEAKER_01And these episodes go fast. They did go pretty fast. These are fast. So yeah, we're probably gonna. I think for this next episode of the pod, we'll watch two. And then after that, we're gonna I just have to look and do three. Yeah, um, because there's four seasons and a movie to end it, I think. Okay, and there's other OVAs, which I can't remember what it stands for, but there's little backstory things that clip it. But I don't know if we're gonna watch any of that stuff. Uh we'll we'll let you guys know as we approach it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, we'll see. Yeah. Depending on what it is and how important it is, I guess. Exactly. As long as it's not like a a reworking movie that's just a clip show of the first fucking season. Yeah, yeah.
unknownGod damn it, I don't know.
SPEAKER_00Exactly.
SPEAKER_01You know, it goes sometimes. You gotta reintroduce it to people, I guess.
SPEAKER_00Allow me to reintroduce myself. Nice Jay Z, 30-year anniversary. Wow, reasonable doubt. That's from the black album, though. Don't worry about it. Nick, don't you worry your cute little beautiful head about it.
SPEAKER_01He had Mike Sanchez until that moment, and then you fucked it up. So yeah, I as much as my spidey senses went off in terms of like this isn't for me, I was like, nope, be fair to it. And there was more than enough like interesting little seeds that were planted where I'm like, okay, cool, I'm I'm I'm down to watch this. I just didn't really enjoy these two episodes. Yeah, okay. Not very fun to watch, very bleak, which is saying a lot, I think.
SPEAKER_00It also says a lot that I didn't think it was that bleak. I don't see it. I was kind of having fun with it. Yeah. And it says something about me more than it says something about you.
SPEAKER_01It it that medieval weird creature unknown stuff, it's it's Elden Ring kind of adjacent thing. You don't know.
SPEAKER_00I I beat Elden Ring. Kinda. You ran through it. You know what I mean? You weirdly speed ran it. It was weird.
SPEAKER_01I was like 70 hours, dude. Yeah, it was weird. And guess what?
SPEAKER_00I deleted the save.
SPEAKER_02I deleted it off my PlayStation. You were kind of rushing at the end. Did I beat it? Sure. Did I not beat it? You did. Yeah.
unknownFucker.
SPEAKER_00But uh technically, yeah, you beat it technically you played it. Technically, technically I beat it. Technically, you played it. Yeah, you're right. Technically, you got to the end of the game. Yep. Yeah. Yep. Exactly. As if you skipped every cutscene and didn't read any item and didn't go to any side area. I didn't skip cutscenes. I never skip cutscenes, but Grant talked over every one of them.
SPEAKER_01Every single one of them. Isn't that an amazing thing that he does?
SPEAKER_00It's a glorious thing that he just sits on his phone the whole time we play a game, and then a cutscene with information comes up, and then he starts talking about it. He starts talking about nothing no one wants to hear about. It's insane. It's crazy. It's nuts. I s he's more your friend than mine. He is my friend, but I still don't understand. Does he even like video games? I don't know. Is he good at video games? What game is he good at? Because I've never seen him before?
SPEAKER_02I don't know. Crash Bandicoot?
SPEAKER_00I don't he looks like his name is Crash Bandicoot. It doesn't all the way make sense, but it kind of works. No, I think it works. That's brilliant. I love that.
SPEAKER_01I love that. That's good. You'll never hear this, so I don't have to say I'm joking. That's amazing. Uh yeah, it's it's a weird thing. That's a weird thing. He's a weird guy. Uh, but yeah, I'm looking forward to it even though I didn't enjoy it. Uh or I'm looking forward to it even though I don't didn't enjoy the rough start for you, but you're you're you're still here. Yes, yeah, still still down for it. Fascinated.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Intrigued. So yeah, we'll be back next week. Apologies for the so many breaks. Yeah, but it's just our schedule's been so fucking busy. Yeah, we're busy boys. And uh we usually take a week off in between seasons, anyways, but yeah, we'll we'll be more consistent going forward uh with this. Yeah, we'll be back next week. And yeah, you can watch it on Hulu. Hulu or Crunchyroll. Official. We're watching it on Hulu. I'm watching it on Hulu. Dubbed. Same, same. Episodes three and four next week. Attack on Titan. Thank you for joining us for the new season.
SPEAKER_00I love you.
SPEAKER_01I love you too.
