Speaker 1:

This is PGA Tour Countdown. Whoa, we're live at Azalea House. The party's starting to ramp up. The play is coming to a close and it's been an interesting day. We haven't lost too many things today A couple of awnings, some shrubbery and some golf balls blown off into the hinderlands on the golf course here. Really, really windy today. Even now the wind is still howling out there. Folks, I've got to tell you a couple of friends here who have private planes, they aren't even going to put them up in the air tonight. They were going to leave and watch it from home, but they decided to stay. So, with that being said, I can certainly assure you that it's going to be a rowdy fun, a lot of conversation about the golf tonight here at the Azalea House, right across the street from Augusta National. So we'll be playing several hello of the interviews for you and let you see for yourself what the players had to say after a windswept day at Augusta National to say after a windswept day at Augusta National Tiger.

Speaker 2:

I know it's tough to reflect right after your round, but 24 straight made cuts here at Augusta. What does that mean to you, especially after the quick turnaround?

Speaker 4:

between rounds it means I have a chance going into the weekend. I'm here. I got a chance to win the golf tournament. I don't know if they're all going to finish today, but I'm done. I got my two rounds in. Just need some food and some caffeine. I'll be good to go.

Speaker 2:

How would you assess your position going into the game?

Speaker 4:

I'm right there. I'm only what? Eight back as of right now. I don't think anyone's going to run off and hide right now, but it's really bunched. The way the ball is moving on the greens chip shots are being blown. It's all you wanted in a golf course today. What?

Speaker 6:

about the physical challenge today. Tiger, how tough was it.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, I'm tired. I've been out for a while competing, grinding. It's been a long 23 holes, a long day but Lance and I really did some good fighting today and the conditions and whatnot.

Speaker 3:

You seem like. Yesterday particularly, it just seemed like there was a little bit of joy about you. Can you describe kind of just being back here, you know the conditions being certainly better than they were last year?

Speaker 4:

Well, I've always loved playing here. I've been able to play here since I was 19 years old, so it's one of the honors I've've. You know I don't take lightly. I've been able to compete in the years I have missed. Um, I wish I was able to play, because there's such a an aura and mystique about playing this golf course that I don't think that unless you have played and competed here, you probably don't really appreciate even though you you don't play for Cubs obviously you never have.

Speaker 3:

Is there some appreciation for having that record, and particularly with the stuff you've been dealing?

Speaker 4:

with. Yeah, I think that I will be able to, as soon as I'm done with you guys, be able to text Freddie and give him a little needle.

Speaker 5:

Tiger Thompson.

Speaker 7:

Max's road to contending in a major hasn't been a straight line.

Speaker 3:

There's a card and all that kind of stuff. Can you assess him as a player and how he played the last couple of days.

Speaker 4:

Well, he's got all the talent in the world. I got a chance to play with him at the Open Championship in St Andrews and his ball flight as solid as he hits it, it's just a matter of time before he starts winning in bunches and uh, you know, I, I gotta. I saw it up front. He, he, he hits it. He doesn't really miss hit shots, um, and that's something you just have to do around this, golf course. Sorry, louder I'm sorry.

Speaker 5:

Can you talk about how you played today and especially your short game? I think you had up and down.

Speaker 4:

Sorry louder, I'm sorry. Can you talk about?

Speaker 7:

how you actually played today, and your short game especially. It was like what?

Speaker 4:

we've seen for so many years. Yeah, I was forced to get up and down a few times today and I was able to do that and a lot of those chip shots. I was able to get up and down because I left in the perfect spot, and that's understanding how to play this golf course. Um, it's probably the only exception to you know the the spot I put up myself on on 14. On the most of the up and downs I was in a perfect spot thank you very much, appreciate it.

Speaker 8:

Thank you.

Speaker 1:

Hey folks, what if you could take a weekly shot to lose weight and, better yet, keep it off? You lose weight, it comes back. You lose weight again, it comes back again. The cycle is the cycle. Is the cycle? It sounds familiar, does it not? It does to me, you know. Remember when everybody was doing the juice cleanses and basically hungry all the time, was doing the juice cleanses and basically hungry all the time? There's a better, more sustainable way to lose weight than $20 smoothies and, of course, daily ice baths. Uh-uh, not for me. Here's what I want you to do. I want you to look at something for me.

Speaker 1:

Rowe provides access to the most popular weight loss shots on the market. The Rowe Body Program that's R-O-B-O-D-Y Program pairs a weekly shot with healthy lifestyle changes so you can lose get this 15 to 20% of your weight in a year on average and you actually keep it off. Over 200,000 people have already chosen Rowe to help them lose weight. Rowe Body Program members have support throughout the process Important the support is important. Ro's partner handles all of the insurance paperwork to help get medication covered Key If eligible for medication.

Speaker 1:

Patients have access to their provider on demand for any questions. You can sign up online from the comfort of your own couch, your home. No doctor's appointment, no scheduling, no commute to the doctor's office and, more importantly than anything these days, no waiting rooms. Speaker 9:

Bryson, welcome back to the interview room. Thank you. You're the leader in the clubhouse following six under total through the first two rounds. Really different conditions today Very windy. Can you describe the day today and how it went for you?

Speaker 6:

Yeah, I've never experienced, I guess, a national in these conditions before, and being able to stay patient and place the ball in correct locations and just allow myself to be okay with not-so-great shots out there today was a key aspect of me playing well, great Mark.

Speaker 10:

Hey, bryson, this is not necessarily round-related, but I'm curious about your irons that you brought into play here, because they've drawn some attention obviously. What is it about the whole 3d concept and what? What track did you to them and what did they do for you?

Speaker 6:

well, I designed them with someone from back home and they've just got a different curvature on the face than other equipment. Most Most equipment's flat. These have a different curvature on the face that allows me to have my miss hits go a little straighter sometimes.

Speaker 9:

Jeffrey.

Speaker 7:

Bryson, this will be a new spot for you going into the weekend here, being right there at the lead. What's your level of excitement?

Speaker 6:

for that I'm very excited. I get an opportunity to show my skill set and hopefully it's good enough to do something special this weekend. I feel like the game's in a great spot, mindset's in a solid place, caddy's keeping me in check, we're joking out there, having fun and some tough conditions, so I feel like everything's lining up pretty well. Just going to make sure my lag putts are doing well and striking it well off the tee, that's all that matters. If I can do those things, I think I'll have put myself in a good place, daniel.

Speaker 11:

You haven't really had a chance to go head-to-head with Scotty, since he's been playing the way that he has. Is there a part of you that's?

Speaker 6:

kind of relishing that opportunity. Yeah, extremely Extremely. Yeah, extremely extremely. It's different, obviously, not being able to play in most of the same events and seeing how successful he's been out there. He's obviously the best player in the world and it's going to be a lot of fun competing and seeing what he can do compared to what the rest of the field can do. What I can do, I'm looking forward of the field can do. What I can do. I'm looking forward to it. I really am.

Speaker 9:

Daniel.

Speaker 8:

Bryson, can you? Talk us through what happened there on 13, and just what was going through your mind when you lifted the.

Speaker 6:

Yeah, I picked up the signpost.

Speaker 6:

I was trying to direct people, you know, trying to get people to go to the restrooms or go to I don't know.

Speaker 6:

I mean, look, for me it was the only option, pretty much the only option.

Speaker 6:

I was looking at an opportunity to hit it back into the 13th fairway and, look, it would have only led me 200 yards in, probably something like that, and I knew that I could hit one around the corner down 14 fairway and have like 140 to 50 yard shot in. So I decided to do that and the patrons were nice enough to move over to the side and made sure it was wide enough so if I hit one errant and nobody would get hit by the ball. And I had a great shot out around the corner and was able to take advantage of a pretty open entrance to the green, to that back right flag, and made a nice birdie putt. So it was definitely low for me. I was trying to draw it around the corner, the wind gusting the way it was today, I did draw it but it just, I mean, had no chance to hook around the corner and luckily got into a place where I could chip it up 14 and was very fortunate on that hole to have that happen to me.

Speaker 9:

In the back Kyle Porter.

Speaker 11:

Yeah, it seems like, Bryson, you're attacking this golf course differently than you have maybe in the past. What's an example of a hole that you're playing differently than maybe you did four or five, six years ago?

Speaker 6:

I wouldn't say I'm playing it differently, necessarily. I'm able to hit the golf shots exactly well for the most part, where I want them to go, and I'm a little bit more conservative in certain situations For example, seven today. Normally I'd be like, all right, let's, let's hit one really close to the flag, but there's just really no place to land it. But by the hole you got a four or five yard area and you know, jibo was like dude, just hit it left, take a 20 footer and knock it in. And that was one of the first times in my professional career where I stood up there and I said I'm gonna hit it over here and I'm gonna make a 20 foot footer. And I did it and he was really proud of me.

Speaker 6:

Actually, at that moment he's like dude, look at you hitting away from a flag, which is not normal for me. So that would be one of the scenarios where I'm playing it strategically a little different and making sure I'm using slopes when I can and trying to take in as much information as I can with the wind and use um, use what I've um accumulated over the past few years and, funny enough, jibo was uh in the final round with Tiger in 2019 with Tony Finau. So he knows a bit of pressure. He knows and understands the situation and having me, um, kept calm is always a good thing and he's able to do that really well.

Speaker 11:

Is there anything other than your caddy that maybe has convinced you to play this golf course more conservatively than you have in the past? Yeah, the golf course, the golf course, uh nick bryson, I talked with greg norman today and he said that he thinks you're playing more happy, that you feel more happy. What's your reaction in hearing that?

Speaker 6:

yeah, I mean he seen me in a lot of good moments and a lot of bad moments. I was even struggling over at Live when I jumped over there and wasn't playing my best golf, and so he's seen some ups and downs as well. As Mr Nelson, over here there's been a lot of people that have seen ups and downs, and I think getting some equipment in my hands that works for me also getting a little bit older, hopefully a little bit wiser has just allowed me to calm down and be comfortable in my own skin and enjoy the moments, because it's not going to be here forever. You might as well enjoy it while you're here. Sam Farmer Bryson, any thoughts on that drive on 17? I think that was the longest I smoked. It, was it the longest?

Speaker 5:

I believe it was the longest.

Speaker 6:

Yeah, I'm just glad I hit the wedge shot good. That was not an easy wedge shot downwind with it gusting like that, but I knew I could get it past the trees on the right if I didn't hit it my best. So I kind of tried to aim up the right-hand side, hit a bit of a draw down there and hit it really well, left myself a great opportunity. Unfortunately I didn't capitalize. But that's the golf course out here. You're going to take some good breaks and you're going to get some bad breaks. And you know it is what it is. And especially with the windy conditions out there, it was a lot of guesswork.

Speaker 2:

But uh, jibo helped me have some good, educated guesses out there joy bryson, uh, almost referring to what, uh, my friend next to me said, you seem to be a lot happier on the golf course and, apart from 13th, you also did a very exaggerated police movement on the third hole for the players to go. What has prompted this new kind of mindset of Bryson DeChambeau?

Speaker 6:

I don't really know, to be honest with you, other than feeling like I'm a little bit older and I've got some equipment that makes me feel really comfortable out there, finally able to kind of express some positivity that I know I had as a kid and I know that I have right now to its fullest. I think that's just all part of it. It's just part of the equipment, part of getting older and enjoying this beautiful golf course. I mean, it doesn't get much better than Augusta National Luke.

Speaker 13:

Bryson, you said yesterday that the feeling of kind of tilting your shoulder and swinging inside out is a really important kind of key for you. Why is that and how much are you thinking about it on a golf course like today, where the wind is just gusting and you're having to do so many different things?

Speaker 6:

Yeah, I mean, that's my key thought process in every single shot. Uh, besides that, I'm trying to manage it with the wind where it is, where I can miss it, it's a lot of where I can. Where can you miss it out here on the golf course today? And so I'm focused on it after um, or just pretty much on every shot. And what do you mean? Do I feel? What do you mean? Do I feel? What do you mean by that?

Speaker 13:

I guess I mean the wind. Can you have to play the wind in so many different ways and hit different shots, right? Is it hard to divide the technical side of things versus what the wind is giving you and having to play a shot?

Speaker 6:

It does, but it's a lot of like sensation for me. It's like a lot of like shoulder motion, how my hands feel through impact relative to where my head is. It's a big feel thing. If I need to hit a cut, I change my path. If I need a bigger draw, I swing it more inside out, and that's really all I focus on. It's not much more than that.

Speaker 5:

The tilt just allows me to get into a position where I can throw my hands through rotate my hands through, rotate my hands through and move through it without feeling like it's going to miss way left. So I don't know, dylan yeah, bryson, you've touched on this a little bit but how down to the wire was it getting your irons approved and and just how many people were involved in that process of getting them over the line?

Speaker 6:

I have to say it was pretty close. I would say Monday we've well early. Tuesday is when I finally got the full set approved and conforming and I started practicing from then on out and felt comfortable with them. Tuesday and Wednesday had issue, but I had been practicing with them for quite a while before that. Last week I found out that they were. Unfortunately we didn't really think it was going to be non-conforming, but they were. Just the groove edge was too sharp and Carter Rich was super helpful and I have to thank him for helping get those approved and gone through the right process. But last week we found out, literally Thursday afternoon, that they were non-conforming from the USGA and then we worked on them all over the weekend and finally Tuesday morning we got them to where they were in, a place where they were conforming and I was ready to go.

Speaker 8:

Mark, that was bryson, that was kind of my question. But when did you come up with the, the concept for the irons, and I've had this since 2020.

Speaker 6:

Thought about it. Since 2020 you can find a manufacturer to do it, or I'm not going to speak much more on that, but I've had this idea for a long long time, especially with the driver.

Speaker 5:

You on the same thing on the irons. Are they one of one? Are like they're a backup set there is?

Speaker 6:

no backup set. So what is the backup plan? Uh, I've got some ping I I think. It's i330s, I think or something like that. Yeah, I've been using them since july oh no, no, a lot early last year and I shot 58 with them, so they do pretty well.

Speaker 5:

Yeah, I'm just curious how they're holding up.

Speaker 6:

Yeah, the backup sets, the ping, the pings are Well, no, no, the set that you're using, the set that I'm using, they're great, they're fantastic. I haven't had any issues with them and looking forward to a good weekend.

Speaker 9:

Maybe just a couple more questions, hanan.

Speaker 6:

Will. Questions. Anand, will you please reflect on the finish today and then also talk to us about the key piece of information that you're carrying into the weekend based on where you placed and your two routes? Look, I felt like I could have finished birdie par and been an eight under. Didn't happen. That's in the past. Playing great golf, golf swing's an eight under Didn't happen. That's in the past. Playing great golf Golf swings in an awesome place. Potting's in a great place, chipping's in a great place. Just have to be smart around this place and give myself an opportunity to come back.

Speaker 9:

Nine to Sunday your last question, Claire.

Speaker 5:

Hi Brayson. What did you learn about yourself over the last two days?

Speaker 6:

What did I learn about myself? Well, last two days. What I learned about myself? Well, I've always known that I could play good golf. I've learned that I'm a little bit better of a wind player than I thought I was, maybe. And I don't know what else to say other than that I feel like the wind was just a difficult test of golf that I'm usually not really good at. I'm pretty poor at wind golf, but getting some equipment has really helped me settle in and be comfortable with certain shots. And yeah, that's about it. I don't know what else to say.

Speaker 9:

Great Well, thank you, Bryson. Best of luck this weekend.

Speaker 11:

Scotty, welcome back to the interview room. You entered the weekend as the co-leader with rounds of 66 and 72. Can you please describe the challenging conditions you had to battle out there today?

Speaker 12:

yeah, it was. It was extremely challenging. Um, the winds were up very high and you know they blows from everywhere out here, and so I think even par this afternoon was it was a really good score. And um, yeah, I can't I can't really describe how windy it is and how difficult the gusts are, just because I mean I think you just have to be out there and experience it.

Speaker 12:

Um, like hitting shots into 11 and 12 today were just, I mean, it's so difficult. Um, and like when you have putts like I had a putt from about four or five feet on number nine and on a typical day it would have been just outside the hole with no wind, but I could hit it on that line and the wind is so putts breaking right to left, winds blowing left to right, and I mean it can change the the break of the putt by a cup on either side, especially at the speeds that these greens are at. So I mean everything out there is extremely difficult when it's this windy. So I was definitely, definitely pleased to get in there and even par we will now open it up for questions jeffrey scotty.

Speaker 7:

Uh, two quick ones if I could. What? What was the role of experience on a day like today?

Speaker 12:

um, not really sure. I uh, I think for me mostly it was just trying to manage my way around the golf course and that's pretty much it, just trying to make as many pars as you could and try and leave it in the right spots. But it's just so difficult when you can't tell where the wind is coming from. You can only make really an educated guess and then try to go from there and for the most part I think we did a pretty good job today.

Speaker 7:

We always think when you get to the 13th tee, you're seeing the scoring holes out here. Is that as hard as you've?

Speaker 12:

ever seen those holes play 13 on Pretty much. I mean like 13. For me today was a good example of. You know, I hit a good tee shot and I had a really good second shot and then you just get gusted by the wind and then stuff like that happens. You know you make bogeys and then you get to 15 a hole that's typically reachable, like yesterday I hit driver three iron onto the green and today and it was still a little bit into the wind yesterday actually, and I hit driver three and onto the green and today it was so into the wind I hit driver three iron and I had 70 yards. So yeah, big difference out there renee, renee michael, thank you.

Speaker 14:

Um, the day is so long and so challenging. Do you have to play little tricks with yourself to give yourself a little break from the task at hand while you're between shots or any other time?

Speaker 12:

yeah, I try to relax as much as possible out there, but, um, you know, I feel like I teed off 10 hours ago. I mean it's, it was a long day out there. Um, kaiser was wearing a watch and when we got to 16 tee, I think it was six, 57. So it had already been over five hours. And I mean that's, that's what happens when you have greens this fast and this much wind and that much water out there. It's going to take a while to play golf. That's pretty much it.

Speaker 14:

Almost like US Open. Golf is often like that, isn't it? Where the days are so long and so mentally grueling.

Speaker 12:

I think major championship golf has a tendency to just be very mentally grinding and days like today, I think, are the extreme of that. Just with how much the wind is blowing, it can be so difficult and you just got to do your best to relax as much as possible out there and and try and execute.

Speaker 7:

Sean, will you hit balls tonight?

Speaker 12:

I was going to hit a few, but it's pretty much dark. I'll see if Xander's still on the table and I may hit a few just to just to get a feel before I go home. But outside of that, you know, I may just head out.

Speaker 7:

And with.

Speaker 5:

Meredith not being here. What's missing when she's not here with you?

Speaker 12:

What's missing. Yeah, that's difficult to describe, but yeah, it's a bit weird. You know it's my first tournament without her being around in quite some time. Fortunately, nike kind of takes care of my clothes this week so I don't have to pick up, pick my own outfits. Um, you know, I did make breakfast this morning, which was an adjustment. Um, no, but yeah, I mean, she's obviously my biggest supporter and I definitely miss having her here, but, um, you know, it's an exciting time for for us in our lives and um, yeah, fortunately she's still at home and feeling good, so we're grateful for that.

Speaker 11:

Abraham. Hi, Scotty. How would you compare today's conditions with last year's conditions? Was it harder today or last year?

Speaker 12:

I think it was harder today. What I remember from last year was a lot of rain, which can be challenging in its own way. Today, with the wind and the firmness of the greens, I would say that it felt more challenging. But I don't have like distinct memories of last year outside of it just raining a ton.

Speaker 8:

David Scotty. On a day like this, even part of the good score, is it some way feel rewarding to have fought through that and come up with a score that puts you tied for the lead?

Speaker 12:

Yeah, it's definitely rewarding. Like I said, it was extremely challenging out there and I'm proud of how I finished. I had, I would say, three really good pars to finish the round. Three really nice two putts. Yeah, good par on 14. I can't really say it was a good par on 15, but really any time you make a par on a day like today is typically a good par. Um, so, yeah, definitely feeling pretty good with the results from today and, um, you know, excited to get some rest and get ready for tomorrow.

Speaker 8:

Was there ever a situation where you felt a little frustrated because it just took so long and it was so hard? Or to fight the feeling, I guess?

Speaker 12:

Yeah, I mean, I think you get frustrated sometimes when you think the wind's blowing one direction and then it just decides it's going to blow the complete opposite direction. But outside of that, I mean those are things that you expect on days like today and all I do is just try to control what I can control, and then you know. If I can do that, then I'm typically pretty satisfied with the results.

Speaker 11:

Scotty, thank you for your time and best of luck this weekend. All right, Thanks y'all.

Speaker 1:

Speaker 1:

I know I looked at it. I wish it had been around when I was in business folks. It's an incredibly powerful cloud-based product. It works, it just works, and everything talks to everything. It communicates within itself. One-stop shop as far as I was concerned. So here's what I need you to do, because now, through April 15th, NetSuite is offering a one-of-a-kind flexible financing program.

Speaker 1:

Head to netsuitecom slash PGAtour. That's netsuitecom slash PGA Tour. That's NetSuitecom slash PGA Tour. Netsuitecom slash PGA Tour. So there you have it. We are still live at Azalea House. It's getting late on Friday, but we wanted to get some of the interviews to you as best we could so you could have something to have your coffee by in the morning or maybe a late night cab tonight. Remember. Thanks very much and please participate in reaching out to our sponsors NetSuite, bile, oracle, rowe and Factor and, as always, pxg. Nobody makes golf clubs the way we do, period, and that is a fact I will attest to For the PGA Tour Countdown crew, the Golf Talk America Network crew, the people from Azalea House that make all this happen for us every year as our home base at the Masters, and our friends in Augusta. I'm Frank Bassett, bidding you a wonderful and peaceful evening, thank you.
