Golf Talk With Tim and Frank
Speaker 1welcome to the fusion of golf , music , sports and entertainment . Golf talk america .
Speaker 2With tim matthews and frank bassett take it away , boys .
Speaker 3Hello once again , everybody , welcome to golf . Talk america to matthews with you . And we have got a lot to dive into Finishing off the FedExCup playoffs and what Scotty Scheffler did a bit of a rollercoaster ride there in the last back nine I guess , but still got it done . So we'll talk a little bit about that . Looking forward as the fall season kicks in , which we all know is kind of the guys that are trying to gather some points before the big boys come back into play , mostly after the first of the year . Also , the President's Cup right around the corner up in Montreal , quebec , canada . So we'll get into that a little bit as well . Our good friend Steve Johnson , director of Instruction at Vaquero Golf Club in the Dallas-Fort Worth area , will be joining us shortly to talk about different things as well . In the meantime , hopefully in good spirits as well as physically stronger Frank Bassett joining us in the Nashville studios . How are you doing , frank ? Are you feeling better ? Are you healing a little bit ?
Speaker 2Yes , I'm healing . Thank you very much . I'm getting closer to being able to , as we said in pre-show , come to Dallas and go see Steve Johnson and let him do a makeover on me , because I haven't played golf in so long . I just want to learn how to grip the club and set up properly . Just the basics , just the basics .
Speaker 3Yeah , it's been a haul .
Speaker 2So surgery's no fun , but it's all over , I'm better and enough being said about that mess . Let's talk about Steve Johnson joining us , because I can't wait for him to talk about why Colin Morikawa probably should , at 22 under , have been the winner of the . Just create the controversy right there . Morikawa , tagala and then Scheffler , I mean 22 , 21 , 20 . And who had the best round ? Who had the best round on Sunday ?
Speaker 3Shot a 62 , Russell Henley .
Speaker 2Good God .
Speaker 3Good for him , it earned him a lot of 62 , russell Henley Good God . Well , good for him , it earned him a lot of money . And you're right , let's bring in Steve Johnson , director of Instruction at Vicarial Golf Club in beautiful . Well , I guess it's Westlake , is it Westlake technically , texas ?
Speaker 1Steve yes .
Speaker 3North of Fort Worth . How you doing , how's everything going there ?
Speaker 1Thanks for having me back . I thought I was out , man . I thought I was totally out . Yeah , we considered it . We had a board meeting .
Speaker 3We had a board meeting and you just cleared the right number of votes . To get back on the show .
Speaker 2Actually , we gathered our three listeners and they all said you couldn't come back . It was unanimous .
Speaker 1Now that Paul Stankowski is in , I guess he's busy .
Speaker 2Yeah , you know he can't come on anymore . Yeah , he won't even talk to us . I mean he won't return calls . Now He'll have to call his agent , you know yeah .
Speaker 1Tim and I have experienced that a lot .
Speaker 3We've experienced that a lot . Yeah , way too much , way too much . So , steve , what did you think ? What did you think about the Tour Championship ? There's a staggered start , so that scotty started at 10 under par . But when you look at just the raw scores over four rounds , who shot better for those four rounds ? But in my mind , as I've said a million times that you know the reason for that and they're trying to balance this is you have to reward a guy for playing his butt off during the regular season , and in most sports that means you get a home field advantage , right , so you get to play at home instead of traveling on the road things , things like that football or baseball , and I mean in golf . It's like , ok , how do you even the score ? You can't give guys , handicaps are all plus tens . So what they did is say , ok , however many years ago , let's start Scotty at 10 under , the next guy's at eight under , seven under six .
Speaker 2Let's give Kansas City a touchdown on a field goal to start the Super Bowl next time .
Speaker 3Well , but you know , that's what I'm saying . They already have home fields . I mean , you do earn it because you've played well . So Scottie earned the right to start ahead of everybody because he had a phenomenal regular season ? I don't know , but what do you think , steve ? What do you think about the way they play it ?
Speaker 1It is a tough format .
Speaker 3I think the FedEx Cup um two guys were happy at the end of the tournament . You didn't know why right .
Speaker 1Well , let's agree , let's all agree . Here's the executive committee that will never go to match play for this thing , because that could be the most boring . Oh man , can you imagine if you had uh you know , I mean all good players top 30 on the FedEx Cup standings ? But if you had , uh , you know , I mean all good players top 30 on the fedex cup standings ? But if you had two of the guys that you know don't even really you know , like buzid and howt and uh , you know , and whoever , it would be very boring . I thought it was . Even though there was . You know , it got to two strokes in the last round . Yeah , some drama . I mean it was exciting . And one of the things that I really like seeing is , uh , eastlake , the new course , oh , the redesign , that the uh , I guess the renovation or restoration , whatever you're going to call it .
Speaker 1Uh , andrew green , the guy that did that course , also did the carol , so I see that the bunker that's kind of his trademark's got one side , the fairway side of the bunker . You can roll the ball into the green side of the bunker .
Speaker 3Oops , I think don't move , steve , it's a ground deal .
Speaker 1Yeah , they did move some ground too there . It looked neat . I thought the combination of the Bermuda greens and the zoysia around the greens , which is a laser zoysia which is really tightly knit together grass that is . It's like a green . That's why a lot of guys were putting off of it .
Speaker 2Well , they are shanking the ball .
Speaker 3The georgia , steve , is a lot like your hair transplant right . It's woven tight , not as many plugs , not as many plugs as my hair transplant hey Tim .
Speaker 2Nutrafol is no longer a sponsor , so don't plug that .
Speaker 3We're going to have to bring that one up . It did look nice , I agree . I think the course did look pretty well . Was it 18 ? It 18 ? Is that the one that it's right near the end ?
Speaker 2so maybe it was 18 and I know it's close to the end what's .
Speaker 3No , I'm saying what's the one that scotty almost every day put it in the water and he'd come up like eight yards short after hitting a 370 yard drive . Is that like 15 or 16 or something every day ?
Speaker 3remember he'd hit the ball a mile and he somehow knew that it would roll out , roll out , and it stopped right before it got to the water . It was like amazing how because he crushed it , I mean , he hit it as hard as he can , which would be a terrible thing , right you hit it as far as you can and you end up in water straight down the fairway , but anyway , so it did look pretty cool .
Speaker 2That was 18 on Saturday .
Speaker 3Is it at USAL ?
Speaker 2Because it rolled into sort of a bad lie .
Speaker 3Yeah , kind of through the fairway , but he only had about another 10 yards and he would hit a pond . So , scott , he's just so automatic , isn't he Talk ? About that , steve , except for the shank .
Speaker 1I've got some behind-the-scenes stories that you may be interested in . Oh yeah , this goes all the way back . You know , now there are three tournaments . Which is the venues of these tournaments ? You go to Memphis , then you go up in the mountains in Castle Pines and then you go back down the lowlands in Atlanta . That's a big change for those players . Sure , now the story is not about the topography . The story is not about the topography . The story is about we get these perceptions of the players . You know , like Scotty looks like a very likable guy . Everyone that talks about him talks about what a great guy is , what a great father he is . They talk about his faith . Another guy is Colin Morikawa . Seems to be always smiling , he's competitive , but he's respectful . Now , now I got a behind the scenes story .
Speaker 1A buddy of mine is a member at castle pines and all the members were in charge of different aspects of the tournament . Well , this guy had the driving range . He was in charge of the driving range and , uh , there were two guys you'd never believe it that were just total asses . One of them was our last year's British Open champion , brian Harmon . I couldn't believe they said man , he was just , he was very unreasonable . He yelled at one of the , got sideways with one of the volunteers and then the other one was Colin Morikawa . He got all upset because the balls weren't separated . You know how some of the balls the 90 compression are red numbered and the 100 compression are . I don't even know if there is compression anymore , but they've got , yeah right formula balls it's red . He was mad because there were black numbers in the red basket and he got all mad at that . Talk about pressure . You turn the heat up and the guys start feeling pressure even off the course .
Speaker 3Is he not a Cal Bear ? He's a Cal Bear .
Speaker 1And you know how tight they're strong .
Speaker 3Your fellow Cal Bear .
Speaker 2Now in the Atlantic .
Speaker 3Coast Conference . By the way , steve , how about that ? Yeah , that makes a lot of sense .
Speaker 1That's crazy yeah .
Speaker 3That's crazy .
Speaker 3It is surprising because Morikawa does come off and we've got to give some slack to everybody . I don't care if you're Scotty or whoever Jordan Spieth , the guys that are always the nice nice . Everybody's going to have some bad days or some . You're right , the pressure is on him . Morikawa does seem like a pretty nice guy . I don't believe I've ever interviewed him or been around him , even in a post-conference , but he always smiles on the air . He seems like a very likable kind of guy . Let's maybe give him a bit of a slack . Yet , harmon , I don't care one way or the other , he can be a bad guy , I guess .
Speaker 1I think talking about demeanor and character and all that . It sounds like Scotty is the real deal . I mean , he gets thrown in jail and he's still smiling .
Speaker 3Well , frank can tell you , though , those people in Kentucky will arrest you for anything , won't they Frank . I've never been thrown in jail . You've been arrested in Kentucky a few times . I have not . You know how tough they are out there in Louisville .
Speaker 2Now I don't care for Georgia . I mean , georgia gets torn up about driving .
Speaker 388 in a 45 . So let's go back to Steve , and again we're joined by Steve Johnson , director of golf at Vaccaro Golf Club . So phenomenal year for Scotty Scheffler . Is it Tiger-esque ? Does it give you the same type of domination feeling that you felt at Tiger 99 , 2000 , 2006 , when ? 2006 , when he was winning seven , eight , nine times in a year ?
Speaker 1I mean similar , but I mean it just tiger was . It was the perfect storm . You've got a minority player . You know , 50 years before he came on the scene he couldn't even go on the golf courses , half the courses he was playing . I mean it , it was the perfect storm .
The Rise of Scotty Scheffler
Speaker 1I don't think we're ever going to see any story . I mean the play , yeah , probably very similar , but I don't think we're going to see a story like Tiger Woods for a long time .
Speaker 3Yeah , yeah , I mean Scheffler . And , by the way , I think we have to also give props , and I've said this before . That tiger , you know , did a lot of things off the course that he's not proud of , and we've all gone through that or heard those stories and whatnot . And a lot of that might have been his dad saying hey , be selfish , be self-centered , you know , and we've heard those stories before michael jordan , whatever being told how you got to focus . If you want to be the greatest , you've got to focus on you . And all that scotty scheffler seems to be almost the complete opposite , with the family coming together , the happiness , all the good stories . He dominates , he's kissing babies , running for re-election Everything seems to be like the perfect guy . I'm a little bit scared , frank . Am I wrong on this one ? Am I too much of a cynic to think that somehow that's going to collapse at some point , that he can't just keep this going ? He seems too perfect , doesn't he ?
Speaker 2No , I think it's his foundational values that hold him right there , and his family's foundational values and his caddy . I mean it's just the perfect storm of all of those factors coming together . I think of background , of who he surrounds himself with , of his devotion to family . I just think he's the real deal .
Speaker 3Because , if you remember once he got when he got arrested at at Bell Hall , where did he get arrested ?
Speaker 2In Kentucky , in Kentucky .
Speaker 3Yeah , In Louisville . Remember how the fans were all on his side Like everybody is almost like the next time he showed up on the tee box standing ovation , I mean .
Speaker 2So it's like the next time he showed up on the tee box standing ovation , I mean so it's like even when he got arrested , and we all , even the police , even the police that were the police that were on the first tee remember ?
Speaker 3yes , they were all like high five and am embarrassed that their department , yeah , did what they did and all that so uh , he just can't do anything wrong , so but good for him .
Speaker 1I think it was only that one police officer . There's only that one guy police officer that got his pants ripped .
Speaker 3He was assaultable .
Speaker 2Here's something that did come up watching the coverage from a friend of mine's . Wife Made the comment that we were talking about that , about the baby , and he has the baby there in the FedEx cup , which is a really cute picture of the family . And she said , well , they didn't have ear protection on that child in that huge venue of screaming people and I have a problem with that .
Speaker 3I went okay , well , I think you're getting over it . That's what I said . That's what .
Speaker 2I said Getting a little picky , that started a little kind of a storm . But I mean , the three of us , I don't think we ever wore headphones when we went to football games . Our parents , you know , put us in the back of the pickup truck riding around town , whatever .
Speaker 3Yeah , that's all a new thing that people's parents are putting on their babies .
Speaker 1That's why all three of us can't hear with a damn either . I'm sorry .
Speaker 2I'm sorry . What did you say ? Say it again , what it was .
Speaker 3pretty impressive his performance and the way he he fell apart , steve and and I had a few friends texting me right when bogey , bogey and murkow picks up two strokes in one hole and next thing you know it's a two-shot lead . Oh , what's gonna happen ? And scotty's been in that position last few years where he's had lead or started in number one spot and couldn't hold on for the last couple years for the fedex cup title . Um , but boy , does it say an awful lot about him that he rolled off three straight birdies right after that to kind of straighten the ship up and go . Yeah , ok , a little little wobbling , but now everything's OK .
Speaker 1I mean I think and stats prove that out is his mind in the game , is , is top notch , is second to none . There's no moment that's too big for him , at least yet we haven't seen it yet . Now he doesn't win all the time , like we saw in Houston . He lost , missed a little putt to go into a playoff . He lost that , but he won a ton . And I mean and I go back because I've been helping a lot of kids lately you see the demeanor of these kids Now he was described as a kid that was very competitive , nice kid , very competitive , and when he'd lose he'd cry all the time and I do too . I don't know how his parents handled that , but I mean , look what he turned into yeah , I'm not gonna go where I was gonna go , just not gonna go there .
Speaker 3I'm in tears constantly . I think you're right . I think you and , by the way , I don't know if you saw this frank steve might have , because it was kind of making its rounds to people that said it uh , centered around . But there's a story on the local abc affiliate that a friend of mine , george reba , uh reporter for the channel eight , did back in 2009 and , uh , I think they even during the broadcast , mike turrico made reference to it or showed a little bit of video . But it was a story back in 2009 of the junior Byron Nelson championship and how these three young guys were all fighting it out and they had been since they were juniors and playing and they're all 12 , 13 , 14 years old and it was Spieth , scheffler and Zelotaurus Back in 2009, . They're all 12 years old , 13 years old and the story kind of resurfaced . Years old and the story kind of resurfaced and it was an unbelievable story because they're all being interviewed and they all .
Speaker 3Look , you know these , these all the ajga players , yeah yeah , peach fuzz , 12 year old kids talking about scotty shuffler was second to speed and speed was doing this . And how ? The three of those guys ? Because we know there's a lot of great junior golfers and steve sees them all the time . They don't all end up like those guys . Well , shuff .
Speaker 2Scheffler . Correct me if I'm wrong here , but Randy Smith told us this when he was on the show one of the times that Scheffler was playing with the older players when he was young and he was much smaller than those guys , so he honed his skills with his short game . Yeah , and he's not talking about speed .
Speaker 3Yeah , he played when he was 12 , 13 , played against the teenagers , the high school boys like 17 , 18 years old . And so yeah , in comparison to those guys , he was underdeveloped .
Speaker 2Yeah , and it's powerful .
Speaker 3But yeah , all credit too to Randy Smith and what he's done for him and helped him instill his coach to this day . He just has a great team around him and I guess , Steve , that's really important in today's golf world . It's not just all the old days with Jack , where it's pretty much Jack and didn't even really have much of an instructor or anybody watching the swing , that much In today's world . You got to have , you know , about a dozen people around you , including family , that support you through all this right .
Speaker 1Yeah , and one of the things that the players need to fight and need to battle through is that , hey , there's , the grass is always greener . You know , you see a guy doing well and then all of a sudden , guys start doing that , just having having the , the persistence to hang in there and going a certain direction . And I tell my students that as long as you can see little bits of improvement , you got to keep heading the same direction . When you get to a point where you don't see any improvement or you start , I mean , heaven forbid , you start getting worse . I mean , that's what we see with Victor Hovland . You know he's , he's yo-yoing back and forth between instructors , he's , it's hard to get . These players get caught in this . Hey , I'm going to try something totally different . And they don't realize . Hey , it does . Their game is fit together like a glove , a hand in glove . If you do one thing , you do it a certain way . You change it , then you got to change everything . So I mean , hats off to Scotty for having it , probably his parents too . Hey , you know . Hey , let's stick with this program , program , and it's going to
Discussion on Golf and Putters
Speaker 1be a great one .
Speaker 1And Randy's not only a great teacher , he's a great person and he's kind of he's that guy that you were . You hung around in high school . Everyone liked to hang around him . He's that type of personality . Randy's very easy going , uh , but he's very talented . You know , he's a good athlete and , uh , he's getting quite . I mean he's getting old now , so I don't think he's going to be traveling all that much , but , um , you know , I think he's he's . He's presented a great foundation for scotty that I mean he's going to use for years , frank , I got a question .
Speaker 1Hey , if Randy doesn't know what's that .
Speaker 2No go ahead .
Speaker 1I cut you off . Sorry If Randy doesn't know . You know has questions about what direction to go , he doesn't have any problem bringing somebody else in .
Speaker 2They brought that putting guy in IA putting yeah , yeah man .
Speaker 1He seemed to help . It took a while to get used to it , but it seemed to help .
Speaker 2I know a putter . I'm going to throw this in and it's not a plug , but I know a putter that I think . In fact I want Steve to try this putter . You talk about putting . I'm putting , I can putt , at least with that new Allen putter from PXG . I got to tell you , when you look at all the other putters and MOI and you talk about balance , you know Scotty changed putters too , which helped him to more of a mallet , this thing , this Allen putter A-L-L-A-N named after Bob's brother , bob Parsons' brother , who passed .
Speaker 2I'd love for you to try that thing out , steve , and give me your opinion on it , because these guys , as you well know being , you know , a tier one instructor to the professionals , including tiger . Um , they change putters , like you know . They've got 50 of them in their garage , like all of us probably do . You know , we got a bunch of them stuck there , right , and I keep going back and forth to the blade , to the old ping style , answer style , and and I switched to this thing and it just all of a sudden there was a world of difference . And again , competence , again . Competence is a big factor there and I know Scotty had lost competence in his putting . But anyway , just not a plug . But I just wanted to throw it in there that that Allen putter guys , you ought to try it and check it out and tell me what you think about it because I love it .
Speaker 1Wise man once said you're not really even a golfer unless you've got a dozen putters in your garage .
Speaker 2Exactly . I have the whole complement of BXG putters and Scotty Cameron putters in there and a couple of labs , and no , let me ask you this , frank , I'll start with you Curious about this .
Speaker 3We're talking about , obviously , the FedEx Cup and those top 30 guys where they all finish . I thought Keegan Bradley , after coming off of Castle Pines playing so well , would do much better than he did . Basically shot about even par , I guess , for his four rounds and didn't really do much of anything , finished in 21st spot . That was a bit surprising . But it also speaks to how , boy , if you got lightning in a bottle right for one week , one weekend , you play well . That's how hard it is to win on the tour because you can lose it and I'm not saying he lost it completely , but he sure didn't play nearly as well as he played just the week before .
Speaker 2Well , steve spoke directly to this I mean from memphis , which whatever , but to castle pines back to atlanta . That's just .
Speaker 1That's crazy changing courses and grasses , and topography , oh my god I think we've seen a first too . I think Scotty kind of cashed it in . I think Scotty just said you know what ? Next week's a big week . I'm not going to fret about the yardage . You just have to see the calculations that these guys make on their , you know , for the altitude and the wind and all that , and the temperature , barometric pressure , oh my God . Yeah , it's crazy , yeah .
Speaker 3See Tim , there's a slot for Tim Matthews right there .
Speaker 2On on on Scotty Scheffler's team .
Speaker 3Yeah , the scientist .
Speaker 1Hey , you know what I think ? I think I'm just going to concentrate for next week .
Speaker 3You know , it worked out pretty good for him and , by the way , let's talk about , if I could and it's not all about the money , but then again let's we always talk about money , uh , all sports and athletes do , about what their salaries are , new contracts , all that stuff . Scotty not only cleaned up and we can talk about that , but were any of you guys kind of caught up in the the russell henley story , like you said , frank , that kim comes in and shoots a 62 ? If you looked at it , that great round , even if he would have shot , oh , just say , his 66 , it was like a difference of a two and a half million dollars the fact that he was played out of his mind , really that last round the gala calls two shots on himself okay , that's a whole other thing
Speaker 3oh , is that steve ? Is that ? Is that the right way to do that ? I mean , and I and I I'm not in any way criticizing the guy for doing that , but they almost had to do 27 different close up views to see any grains of sand moving . Is that the right way to play golf , that you have to call that on yourself and in this case it cost him a couple million dollars . You had two shots to him . He ties Morikawa and it's a two million dollar swing .
Speaker 1Yeah , I don't know they did that . That happened a few years ago in the women's us open , where they y'all hit uh , hit a couple grains of sand . It was lexi thompson , wasn't it lexi thompson ? But she didn't call it on herself .
Speaker 3They called it on her .
Selecting President’s Cup Players and Chemistry
Speaker 3I'm saying is it the right mindset to say I think I saw some sand move on my back . He knows it didn't affect his swing . It didn't help him any . There was no benefit to it .
Speaker 1Yeah , but the thing is , though I mean those guys in golf you know this , tim that once you're labeled a cheater man , it is hard to overcome that .
Speaker 2I mean , I think that's a big deal for those guys . Patrick Reed remember Down in the Bahamas .
Speaker 3But haven't we gone to in golf ? Now , where's the intent ? Haven't we come to the point where it's the intent , Like if you address the ball and it used to roll on its own , you had to call it on your Well , that was ridiculous and we now see that . Now , because your intent was not to hit the ball .
Speaker 2Why can't it be ?
Speaker 3the intent was not to clear the path on the sand on the way back . I just happened to put my club a little too low and I knocked three grains of sand away . I just think that it just again good for him that he , I guess , but I , it just seems to me like man . I think that's just too much .
Speaker 1I think that it's almost like to make on yourself . I'll tell you that I don't think .
Speaker 3I could have . I don't think I could have be honest with you . Yeah , I mean , I literally stomped down the ground with my foot behind the sand before I hit . Is that a problem ? Is that wrong ? Yeah , pretty much . But you cheat . I didn't mean to , I didn't intend to .
Speaker 2I lay a strip . It was not my intent .
Speaker 3I lay an airstrip like DFW Airport behind my ball before I hit it .
Speaker 2I'll tell you that much that's on your wedges around the greens with tight lines .
Speaker 3If I can get away with putting a tee in the ground in the fairway , I'm doing it .
Speaker 1I mean , it happens not just with the pros , but it even happens with the club players . You know a guy that plays in a group with you sometimes , is always moving his ball around . No lie , looks good and he's always going to move it around . No one likes playing with that guy no , yeah , yeah that's I mean .
Speaker 3I just that was just such a money thing , like it was just great . But , by the way , also wanted to make sure . Uh , who is it with um shawfly ? Remember how he didn't he put in from off the green on 18 ? Remember his last shot ?
Speaker 1that that putt if from off the green on 18 ?
Speaker 3Remember his last shot ? That putt , if you remember , gave him a birdie . I believe that knocked him into a tie at 19 under Again , that was like a $1.5 million putt that he made . Had he not made that putt because the money was so ridiculous , right for the FedExCup playoffs ? That stuff just blows me away . Not that that's in your mind , yeah , but even the announcer I thought was I think kissner is one who said it he goes when shawfee made that . He goes , you know what ? Because it tied him with , uh , adam scott and russell henley . He goes . You know who didn't like that ? But russell henley and adam scott that's exactly right , because he just took money out of their pocket with that putt .
Speaker 2Oh right , the pressure well , let's , let's , let's move to something . I really am curious what Steve thinks Trending Players trending , you know , you look at we're getting to . The President's Cup is where I'm going and the picks are coming today , 12 o'clock Central , I think 1 o'clock Eastern , on Golf Channel , for the six picks that Pyrrhic has . And of course we're Max Homa boom south , right , just trending badly . Of course we're Max Homa , boom South , right , yeah , just trending badly . Yet he's sitting right there at the number . Basically he's in the six . The additional six , keegan Bradley , is right now sitting there within the number . Who would you pick Keegan's ? Trending up , max is going south . I mean , who do you pick ? Who would you pick keegan's ?
Speaker 3trending up , max is going south . I mean , who do you pick ? Who would you pick tim ?
Speaker 1I take keegan I like keegan .
Speaker 3I like , I think keegan is is one of those . He's , he's a bit of a version of , uh , our ian poulter , who just seems to really relish the team aspect , the uh wave your flag kind of thing . Some guys do that . Some guys don't really seem to care . Patrick Reed , let's be honest , patrick Reed has been a great Ryder Cup player . Oh yeah , because there's something about it . Right Now , you could like or hate Patrick Reed and all that , but so there's some guys , I think , that are made for that . I think there's others that don't really seem to flourish in that surrounding , don don't really seem to flourish in that surrounding , don't really seem to even tiger .
Speaker 2Let's be honest , tiger has a terrible record Writer .
Speaker 3For who for who for who he is Right Just wasn't his forte . So I like Keegan , because that's what he's all about , and now Keegan could play his way onto that . When he was going to be an assistant I fear a card he named him as assistant , but he certainly could play his way on , and I think the fact that he won a fedex cup playoff , which is that in that tournament is a top 50 guys at that , and he won that tournament . Castle hills , uh , castle pines , yeah , I put keegan in there . I would not , though , go way down like zach johnson did to get justin thomas right . If you remember , wasn't he like at 25 , yes , or something in the points , and he passed over everybody to get Justin Thomas ? That was wrong . I wouldn't do something like that . I think you've got to stick with the guys that , at least seasonally meaning 2024 , have shown you something and have something going on .
Speaker 1Yeah , I mean they showed Max Holman just a little bit . They showed him kind of struggling .
Speaker 2He finished last in Memphis . He's the guy that surprises me . What's that ? He finished dead last in Memphis , dead last .
Speaker 1Did he really ? Yeah , I mean he's struggling a lot . He physically looks like a guy that is so tight that he could get injured at any time . These guys look at the chemistry on the team . Now . He's well-liked , he's not a rah-rah guy , but he has very subtle sarcasm and the guys like that you know . I would take Keegan Bradley too . I mean he's like you said , the imposter . I would say he's kind of like the Paul Azinger of the US team . He's a guy that's been out there a long time . He's very tough , quirky , as anything but tough competitor and you know he's going to be running the ship . He's going to be steering the ship in two years anyway , or next year .
Speaker 2And he married way over his head too . They all do .
Speaker 3Oh yeah , they do .
Speaker 2Hey , Brian Harmon is sitting at 11 , guys . Max Holm is at 12 right now . Would you take Brian ?
Speaker 1Harmon . Brian Harmon is not really all that well-liked .
Speaker 3By the way , Frank , I don't have those standings . Go ahead .
Speaker 1If you value the chemistry , I don't think they go . Brian Harmon .
Speaker 2No , I agree , you know it's Scheffler , shoffley , morkauer , clark Cantley and Tagala Top six . Well , here's an interesting— Now you go to Sam Burns seven , finau eight , henley nine oh yeah , no-brainer , okay yeah . And Keegan Bradley . Tenth , brian Harmon and Max Homa 11 .
Speaker 3I like Billy Horschel .
Speaker 2He's the guy you'd have to pass somebody over , but I think Billy . Horschel is one of those guys too .
Speaker 3Well , how many though ? Ten Maybe , eight .
Speaker 2Where's Horschel Low 20s ? I think he's in the low 20s . Frank , get some stats for me , would you ? For God's sake ? I'm trying , I'm not really .
Speaker 3I think Horschel's one of those guys . Don't stress me out .
Speaker 1Yeah , I can't handle it . I can't handle the stress . I mean , he's a little bit goofy .
Speaker 3Oh , yeah , yeah . But he figures it out , doesn't he ? He somehow overcomes the goofiness and he sneaks up on the ball .
Speaker 1He'll be the best looking in his uniform out there .
Speaker 2That's right . Oh , there's no doubt about that . He makes sure about that .
Speaker 1Yeah , he's never seen a mirror that he didn't like .
Speaker 2Well , anybody who does the Gator Chomp on the 18th .
Speaker 3Marine at Eastlake at Georgia .
Speaker 2Yeah , I know what a dumb move that was , oh .
Speaker 1I liked it .
Speaker 2I liked it from Sam he said it was for fun .
Speaker 1He was in fun .
Speaker 2Yeah , it was only fun . No , it wasn't . He hates Georgia , that's okay .
Speaker 3That's okay . That's what I'm saying . And if you want him to go against the European or the internationals , that's what I'm saying . I like the guy who's like , okay , I'm not trying to be friendly , friendly with everybody , that fiery guy , as I'm saying , is , I think , what creates the Patrick Reeds and the Ian Poulters , maybe Azinger , that they're not always going to be well-lo everybody , but , by god , if you need somebody to get you a birdie , birdie at the end , that's the guy that I kind of want doing .
Speaker 3that , that's just just sam burns doesn't really hit me as the guy right as a fiery guy yeah , yes , sam burns to me is a plays on his skills , that's god-given abilities , blah , blah , but doesn't to me seem to be that guy's burning in his , in his soul to win these matches , given who the captain is you know , purek it's , I think it's bradley , for sure I don't know if it's horsial .
Speaker 1I don't , I don't , I don't think I would stretch a bit yeah , yeah , you never know , um , but uh , there's some guys out there , guys that the only way they'll ever get on any of these cup teams is if they qualify in the top six or top eight , whatever the compulsory some guys will never get , would have never gotten picked and he's . He didn't get picked when he was outside the exempt list no , no , he just didn't .
Speaker 2Yeah um justin thomas is lobbying like crazy right now . He thinks he should be on it yeah , I don't think so , I don't , I don't know he's had an abysmal year , you know yeah , I don't think justin is .
Speaker 3That's a little embarrassing back into be on a team .
Speaker 1That's a little embarrassing I think so too .
Speaker 3I don't think he should
International Golf Team Selection Process
Speaker 3play . It's like you know , you're gonna pick jordan spieth too , because everybody likes putting speed on this .
Speaker 2He's gonna have surgery , so I already had it .
Speaker 3Yeah , he went to veil and had his surgery , um , so he's out till like january . But I'm just saying you got some guys that are kind of always there rider cup presidents . Well , that doesn't mean you still earn it , right , and no offense to ricky fowler , but at some point your career might go a little bit south , okay . Well , then the next guy steps up and you've got to . You've got to look at the , the guys like a morikawa or somebody who sometimes comes out of nowhere . I'm talking about the last four or five years . Guys earn their right , you know , and so I get that .
Speaker 3I think Figala right . I mean people might not have thought of him back in January , but Figala's played extremely well and certainly showed it at Eastlake . So I think it's a tough thing for those coaches , and part of it also is they talk to the other players , and I'm sure that that Furyk has talked to Scotty , figuring that Scotty's the top number one , obvious guy . Well , who do you like , scott ? You know when you want to get some feedback , because you want to know if we put I'm just making this up , but if we put Brian Harmon on the team , he might say to to Furyk , everybody hates that guy . Nobody wants to be around . Okay , everybody hates that guy , I know nobody wants to be around okay well , that's factoring in , right , okay ?
Speaker 3well , nobody likes harman who do we pair him with ? Because the guy's gonna hate every minute of playing with . That factors in . No matter what the guy's doing on the course , he's gonna get feedback , from which is , I think , to the point of zach johnson over the top at the rider cup last year doing that , getting friends with friends and then getting their butt kicked because the friends are all trying to pull friends .
Speaker 3Yeah , how'd that work for you ? It's a tough gig . Try to make sure that you get the right mesh of players , but I'm looking forward to it . They're playing where Montreal , right ? Yes .
Speaker 2Yeah , mike , they're in his backyard and Mark Zucchino's backyard .
Speaker 1I'll tell you what the international team's getting better too , you're right , it's going to be a match it's going to be a match .
Speaker 3I'll tell you what . It seems funny too , because it's almost like it's Canada , it's international , and you're like , well , okay , but it's Canada , they could play in exotic places . They could play in Melbourne and all over Asia and different places South Africa . They're playing in Canada . It's not playing exotic places , right , they could play in Melbourne and all over Asia and different places South Africa . They're playing in Canada and you're like it's not really international . It's not as sexy to me to watch the match in Canada as it would be if they were playing somewhere else . I'll watch , but I'm just saying not quite the same . Hey , oh , by the way , let me . We didn't even mention this and I need to . What Live Tour ? What about it ? Is nobody being considered ? You can't put anybody from Live Tour .
Speaker 2He could . He could put Bryson on .
Speaker 3Can you get Bryson Steve ? Would Bryson deserve to be on there .
Speaker 2Yeah .
Speaker 3I'd love to have Bryson DeChambeau . Hell yes , wouldn't he ? Would you like to have Bryson on ?
Speaker 1that team . He's playing in a benefit tournament tomorrow at Vaquero and I'll ask him if he's been contacted . I'd be curious .
Speaker 2Tim , you need to go out there tomorrow and talk to Bryson .
Speaker 1We'll know by this afternoon , right ?
Speaker 3We're going to know by this afternoon . Yeah , we'll know before that . Yeah , but I'd be curious if you guys , I'll bring some champagne .
Speaker 1I'll bring some champagne and we'll celebrate with Bryson .
Speaker 3You know I played with bryson last week bottle of wine that I gave you . How was that bottle of wine ? That was a very good bottle of wine . Frank knows the story . I think I know .
Speaker 2I know wine tim wouldn't know ripple from and I don't . I'll take next time you have some steve like that . You know we need to have a party we don't really have it .
Speaker 3He only had it for , like , when he walked up and grabbed it and then he gave it to me . That's as long as he had ownership .
Speaker 1It was only about a small little walk . It was a nice little pro media deal to publicize this one club . I had no idea I was going to hit it close to the hole .
Speaker 2How much was that bottle of wine worth ?
Speaker 3It was a lot Like $600 , $700 .
Speaker 2It was worth more than that wasn't it ? Yeah , and Steve has he given you anything as a thank you .
Speaker 3Steve , I think I got that in 2009 .
Speaker 1Tim has been very generous to me . Tim is a very generous person . He's taken me out to dinner .
Speaker 3Yeah .
Speaker 1I mean , I'm serious . Where'd he take you In-N-Out Burgers ?
Speaker 2Did you really ? That's a side of Tim I've never seen .
Speaker 1Oh , he's a sport . We call him sport in our circles .
Speaker 2That sounds like Randy Smith now All right sports , all right pods .
Speaker 3That's the word you use when you don't want to remember circles . That sounds like Randy Smith now . All right sports . All right pods , because you're pods . All right pods that's the word you use when you don't want to remember anybody's name .
Speaker 2That's like when you're dating , when you're young and you go , darling Honey can't remember the next morning . Never mind , we won't go there .
Speaker 3Speaking of live tour , the team championship here at Merideau is coming up and that's why I played with Bryson a couple weeks ago . I played again on Friday with Troy Aikman at Meridot .
Speaker 2How's the course looking ?
Speaker 3The course looks great , the course looks great , have they filled up the pond yet the only downside and that's why the rain is helping them out a lot that we're getting the last couple of days here in Dallas is know that they have a hose going into the pond .
Speaker 2A hose .
Speaker 3The owner told me they needed 250 million gallons . I don't know what that relates to .
Speaker 3It sounds like Lake Michigan to me , but they need 250 million gallons of water and they got a hose coming from , literally like a four-inch diameter hose . That is right now for the next two weeks pumping water in and they're hoping that the rain will help fill it up too . But the course looks great , with the exception of that big pond in the middle of the golf course which right now is still kind of a dry hole that they're going to fix that and make it look better . Otherwise , the greens and the fairways . You know it's still looks a little bit cause there's construction going on , cause they're there because they just redid cart paths , so that's all redone , and then they're putting up all the bleachers and TV towers and stuff , so it still looks a little disheveled . But I think it's going to look great for the team championship .
Media Treatment, Athletes' Diets and Broadcasting
Speaker 1How's the press lunches going to be ? How are they going to be ? It's a good question .
Speaker 3It's a very good question , most important to everything is how will they treat the media ? How will they treat the media ? I don't care how far Bryson hits the golf ball . I don't care if Dustin Johnson makes 14 Eagles . How are they going to treat the media and ?
Speaker 2what's the food like ? Hey , let me ask you this how was Aikman's game ?
Speaker 3Troy has not played . He said he played three times this year . So you can tell he's an athlete . Well , first of all , you can tell he's an athlete . Well , first of all , you can tell , because I don't know if Steve's seen him in a while , but he is as veiny as he looks like Arnold Schwarzenegger while he was competing . I mean , he's seriously ripped , yes , not in a sense of huge , big , but he's just trim and lean and he's got veins in his calves , he's got veins in his arm . I mean , he's just , he's a health nut and he admits it . He goes .
Speaker 3We talked about the Meridot having a cold plunge , right . So when you finish playing , if you really , and it's like 48 degrees and I told him I did that the week before , and he goes . You know , I got one of those in my house I go , oh really , he goes , he goes . I'm a little fanatical . He's got a dry heat sauna with infrared lights . He's got all these things because he is and I'm not saying this in a bad way he's just very , very health conscious , right , what he eats and his diet and when he eats and all that stuff . He's very much into that . So it's a long way of saying Frank , he's an athlete , he's very fit , but he doesn't play an awful lot .
Speaker 3So I think , if I were to keep his score which I didn't but I would imagine shot , you know , low 90s , probably something like that , you know . So that's not bad playing three times . Yeah , if he played more he'd be fine . And he hit a couple of shots , he goes . I didn't really catch that one . It would be like through the fairway way . I mean he could just hit that snot out of a golf ball when he catches it . So yeah , but he's such a nice guy and we had some stories we talked about and everything like that . So it was yeah , it was fun . He said he now he has to shut it down because he says I don't play at all during the football season .
Speaker 2So he said that was the last chance to play .
Speaker 1He's going to work now .
Speaker 3Yeah , he won't play again until now . By the way , sidebar here , what do you guys ? Tom Brady is going to do his debut , right ? Tom Brady is now the number one broadcaster for Fox doing NFL games . Did you see because he is also being considered as a minority owner possibility for the Las Vegas Raiders that they will not allow him as a broadcaster , to go to these pre-game meetings with the other teams because they think he would have an inside advantage when they play the Raiders ? So as a broadcaster , you're going in and sit on these meetings to find out the mindset of the coaches and the offensive coordinator on that . Brady's not going to do that . He can't criticize the officials because ownership air quotes , ownership can't criticize officials . So as a broadcaster , it's like he's got his hands tied behind his back . I said to Detroit he goes . I don't know how he's going to do it , because they're taking away a lot of what you're getting paid to do and he's getting paid $37 million a year for the next 10 years .
Speaker 3That's more than Nance makes To broadcast . It's the most anybody's making , I know .
Speaker 2And yet he doesn't have to . That's more than Troy , I mean than .
Speaker 3Romo makes .
Speaker 2What's Romo ? $21 million .
Speaker 3Romo's $ , what those guys are making , and yet he doesn't have to do . He has to do the Stankowski-Charles Barkley method .
Speaker 2There you go , there you go .
Speaker 3Eat a few Snickers bar and show up on the set . What ?
Speaker 1are we going to talk about ?
Speaker 3I don't know what we're going to talk about . Where are they playing ? Who's playing ?
Speaker 2today . That's Stankowski . He's so funny . He'll come on the show , and you know this , Dave . You worked with him a long time .
Speaker 3He'll come on with us and he'll say all right , boys .
Speaker 2What are they playing this week ? I'm like come on , stanky .
Speaker 3Oh , steve knows that . Steve knows that . Oh , my God , we do the show . Frank and Steve would show up with four pages of notes and Stanky would show up with a .
Speaker 2He doesn't anymore . You know you talk about health , nuts and players and the nutritionists and Steve , you're well aware of this out on tour , especially Tiger and the way he was doing stuff . But did you guys ever hear and this is for our listeners that pepper is bad for you ?
Speaker 3No , Pepper no , I've never heard of that .
Speaker 2I was having lunch a couple of years ago with a friend of mine who's an actor , a guy who played Hercules .
Speaker 3Sorbo's who it is right .
Speaker 2And they said would you like some fresh ground paper ? And I said yes , and he just reached over and took it away and said no , you can't have that . He said that's a preservative . You can't have that , it's horrible for you . He's a big health nut and I was curious if you've seen other players . What about salt ? What ?
Speaker 1about salt .
Speaker 3Oh , no salt . Well , yeah , an overabundance of it . What about herbs ? What about herbs ? Isn't everything bland then ? I mean , don't you have to put something on stuff ? Yeah , I mean , what do you ?
Speaker 2put on eggs ? What do you put on scrambled eggs , for God's sake ?
Speaker 3Yeah , come on . No salt , no pepper , I can .
Speaker 2I'm just curious about the players and their nutritionist . I'd love to have a nutritionist on the show that can tell us we can tell them our diet . Give it to them in the meantime .
Speaker 3Well , steve , it's a lot bigger deal now than it was 25 years ago , isn't it ? I mean what these guys have , as I said , the team around them , that's a nutritionist too , and a chef .
Speaker 1Yeah , I'd go for one of those . Yeah , I'd go for one .
Speaker 3I mean , if you got the money , what did Scotty make this year , Frank ?
Speaker 2$62 million . That's his winnings . No , that's his winnings . That's bonuses and everything On the course , stuff that has nothing to do with . Let's see who's his big sponsor . I believe it's Nike , the only thing on his shirt .
Speaker 3He's got tailor-made clubs , right . He's got . Nike Is AT&T . No , AT&T is Speed .
Speaker 2He's got to be making $100 million a year .
Speaker 1We thought it was a big deal 10 years ago when Tiger won over $100 million career . These guys are going to make $100 million in two years .
Speaker 2Nicholas , how do you think Palmer feels ? Or Byron Nelson ? For God's sake ?
Speaker 3That's always been a number . That's wrong , because it's almost like saying who's the greatest quarterback and you'd say , well , who makes the most money ? That doesn't equate to the best . So golf has always been weird that way , because what did Hogan make in his career ? A million dollars in 15 years or whatever . So Scotty Scheffler , by the way , on that money list because they still keep it in golf is now number three behind Tiger and Rory behind Rory and Tiger , and he's 28 years old .
Speaker 3So yes , he's going to blow away the money category probably next year Wow , he made 30 million just under 30 million in actual earnings the 62 because the FedEx cup counted bonuses and stuff too . Right , it wasn't just technically the earnings from winning a golf tournament , but he won 62 roughly for the whole thing . But that counted some bonus , but actual earnings from winning tournaments or top tens or whatever . He made just under 30 million dollars this year , which , thank you , live tour , right , yeah , I mean , don't those guys have to say you know , if it wasn't for those guys you could probably cut that in half or more .
Speaker 1Yeah , jay monahan found that money somewhere did .
Speaker 2It was in a pillow under his bed somewhere , yeah , yeah it was right next to the keys to his jet wasn't in the pension fund , was it ? Never mind , yeah , we'll go there all right , steve , how's everything ? Going at vaquero .
Speaker 3Before we let you go .
Speaker 1Everything good there yeah , it's , it's going great at vaquero . People are , you know they're . They're flowing back into dallas here that can they come in the summertime tim , these people , they go up to the mountains oh yeah , you know yep yep , so we'll go .
Speaker 2It's 110 degrees in dallas in the summer yes , it is .
Speaker 1I told him to tough it out . I told him just to tough it out .
Speaker 3Sure you did suck it up , boys stay here with me come on , come on , guys , we're all gonna have a good time yeah but it's not going to get 90 this week , frank , we're actually not even . The forecast all this week does not have Dallas even hitting 90 .
Speaker 2Like 88 , 89 is the high that's a cold front , you better go get a sweater , get you a sweater .
Speaker 3We are going to need a parka , so everything's good then .
Speaker 1huh , steve , everything's going good . I'm looking forward to playing with you out there sometime , tim , although we're not doing the rating deal anymore .
Speaker 2They said we're out of that game Really . That is a game .
Speaker 1You're right , that's a whole show there's really no purpose for it . There's no purpose for it for them . Well , you guys are uber private .
Speaker 2Yeah , so why Well ?
Speaker 3I think that's a bad idea , steve , that I think that's a bad idea , steve .
Speaker 1That's a bad idea that doesn't mean , we can't sneak you out there , tim . Okay , well then , it's okay .
Speaker 3Okay , then it's going to be okay , because I actually got an invite yesterday to rate , along with some of the other raters in the state , to go down to Cordillera . Have you ever been down there ?
Speaker 1Nice down in San Antonio , San Antonio .
Speaker 3Yeah .
Speaker 1That's a nice course .
Speaker 2Do you get paid to do that Tim . No , no To be a Raider , you just have your own expenses and everything but you get cut and gone . It's none of your business , Frank .
Speaker 1I just want to know if he's filing it on his taxes .
Speaker 2Why would I say that on the air , Frank yeah ?
Speaker 3I don't get any If any of you .
Speaker 282,000 new IRS agents are listening . Tim Matthews , it's like asking Steve a security number . Does Steve get ?
Speaker 3tips for being a golfer . Yeah , that's right , I don't get nothing . That's all we have to do is call our income tips now .
Speaker 2Our income is just tips , Just tip me yeah please . Anyway , so I'm looking forward to that .
Speaker 3So , anyway , I'm looking forward to that . All right , stevie , have a great day out there All right , hey , frank , yes sir .
Speaker 1Frank , I look forward to you getting better .
Speaker 2Oh , thank you so much . I appreciate that . Thanks , buddy , I do appreciate that You're going to have to go get a chef now .
Speaker 1No pepper , no salt .
Speaker 2I've been eating good .
Speaker 3I'm looking forward to seeing you .
Speaker 1Okay , awesome .
Speaker 3Oh , yeah , Thanks guys .
Speaker 2Thanks for having me .
Speaker 1Thanks , buddy , we appreciate it . Take care , see you , steve .
Speaker 3Johnson . There he is Director of Instruction at Vaquero Golf Club and yeah , it is a very , very nice club in , just like I said , north of Fort Worth if you're not familiar with Dallas-Fort Worth area but beautiful facility there , very exclusive club . Yeah , it was started as a Discoveryland property and we all know if you know golf , you know how nice all those are . But they're not anymore . But still , it was built that way so it's got gorgeous freaking houses all around it and everything else . So , yeah , really , Good for him .
Speaker 2I want to go out there . I definitely want to go out and see Steve . I mean , I was serious about that at the start of the show . Yeah , I'm ready to just get with him . I mean , you know how many people . Well , if you want to go to , Steve Johnson , you can . All you got to do is go online . I don't know that they can go out there and teach out there ?
Speaker 3Probably not , probably just members and stuff or friends . But you know , steve , like I said , if you've got enough money he'll find a way to help you . He'll come help you .
Speaker 2He can fly in and stay at the house here . That's what he gets paid for Both you boys could . Y'all could come here and we could all go out and play my course . Let's take a break , Frank . We don't need to take a break today .
Speaker 3We don't need to wrap everything up like that . Let's do it then .
Speaker 2Let's just do a nice leisurely no break , goodbye say bye to everybody . But before we do and again , I it wasn't a plug and I want to clarify that it really wasn't . It was a heartfelt try that alan putter , because I guarantee you man , it's steve . You've got steve tim , you've got to try it . I mean yeah , see if we can't get them to ship you one , I think they will okay , yeah , I'd love to try it .
Speaker 3It's , it's , is it what ? What style ?
Speaker 2of putter , is it ? It's , it's a semi mallet and I don't want to . I don't want to say too much about it because I don't want to technically mess up the explanation . What we're going to do is have , uh , have someone on from pxg on the next show to talk about that putter , not , you know . They've come out with the new gen 7s , which i've've had for a while . They're fabulous . And the new Black Ops drivers and Fairway Woods and hybrids and the new Gen 7 irons are incredible . But again , not because I'm a brand ambassador for them , because I wouldn't be if I didn't think it was the best club made .
Speaker 3I just wouldn't , and you know that I mean you're the same way and you like what you play .
Putter Performance and Club Quality
Speaker 2But this putter blew me away . I had an opportunity when I was out in Scottsdale to play it and they gave it to me . I mean , that's when I got my new Gen 7s before they were released and the putter and all that good stuff and they fitted me and it sits up at 5 degrees . But because it has kind of a forward press and again I don't want to get too much into it , I'd rather them explain it .
Speaker 2It brings it back to three degrees to get the ball up and rolling over the top of the press Really , and it just is so face balanced . It's unbelievable , MOI incredible . It just does everything right and it's different looking .
Speaker 2But so is you know , the lab putter and all that stuff , those things you know , look like Prince's guitar when he changed from the name to the logo , you know . But this Allen putter's cool , it's bad cool and it really puts a roll on the ball and a feel that it's just . I've never putted with anything like it . I was just flabbergasted . Everybody at my club who's taken it and gone wow , that's kind of different looking , and then they put with it a couple of times and they go oh my God , so yeah , it's pretty cool , but thanks to PXG for being a wonderful partner for us .
Speaker 2And they do make fabulous clubs . Nobody builds them like PXG , I can tell you . So if you haven't been fitted , go get fitted . Don't go buy some off of eBay that some yo-yo is selling for $500 or $600 . No , go get fitted and get them .
Speaker 3And you feel that same way with any club . I think , just in a general sense , people should spend the money you need to spend to have a good game . Now , that doesn't mean you have to spend crazy money . You spend what you can afford , but when you cut corners , I think you're basically also conceding the fact I'm not going to play that well . The best equipment will cost you a little bit more , but is there anything better than hitting a putt and going , wow , that was just perfect , the way that comes off the face , I agree .
Speaker 2But you know what Everybody says oh , pxg , they're so expensive . Well , you can make any and I'm not going to say a name of another club but you can make any club very expensive . You start playing with shafts and heads and all that . You can make anything expensive . Pxg has a line of clubs , I mean , that are very reasonably priced . You go to one of the golf big box stores . You go in there and take a few swings on their simulator and they say , yeah , you need this and this . And here we go . Pxg spends hours with you . They fit you and you don't have to go with a shaft that's going to get you two more yards and pay a big upcharge for shafts and things . You can go with their standard stuff that they put in those clubs . If you want just to kind of save a little bit of money , you can do it . So again , it's , it's not overpriced , it's it's you . You pick your poison there , I mean if you really , you really want to dig in ?
Speaker 2I mean , they dug me in . I mean my bag , good lord , it's a tour bag . I mean it is . You've seen it , you know it's all my shafts and all the stuff are matched and oh god it's cool , it's cool to have that . It does make a huge difference . Even even even if you're a 16 or 18 handicap . It really does .
Speaker 3And we'd also like to thank all the great people at . Invited Clubs . Invited Clubs .
Speaker 2Yes , where we play .
Speaker 3InvitedClubscom . Frank's a member in Nashville , I'm a member here in Dallas and you can be a member wherever you happen to be as well in the United States and just go to InvitedClubscom and you'll find out in your area what clubs there are that you can go to and literally get around to golf in , check it out , go to the restaurant , the locker room , and one of the best things about Invited Clubs is not that there are so many around the country which there are more than any other company . Invited Clubs has them , but they're always upgrading . They're always doing what they have to do . Like we just said about clubs , spend the money to make sure your club is in as good a shape as it can be and as updated as it needs to be . All right there for you at Invited Clubs .
Speaker 2Yes , and Tim's member number is M0147 .
Speaker 3Just put that down , if you don't mind . Put that one down and buy drinks for the whole locker room .
Speaker 2There you go , so anyway it's been fun having our buddy on again .
Speaker 3So anyway , it's been fun having our buddy on again . That was fun . Yeah , it's been a while . He thought he was off and we pulled him back in , Just like Al Pacino . He's back in the mob .
Speaker 2Okay , whatever .
