Professor Gordon Mackay
Professor Gordon Mackay is a world-leading orthopaedic sports surgeon. His father was a professional footballer and his mother was a GP so an interest in sports and medicine was sparked at an early age. After trialling as a young player with Rangers it became clear his talents lay more with medicine and in particular surgery. Once qualified, he spent time at Sports Surgery Centres of excellence before opening his own clinic over 20 years ago. An interest in biologics and the body's ability to heal and repair led to his development of a surgical ligament repair system that accelerates recovery and enables patients, from Olympians to weekend warriors to return to their sport. His greatest pleasure is returning patients to activities they love. He is looking forward to sharing his experiences and those of others on the Surgical Goals podcast. He still plays football - for Scotland's over 50s squad, skies and tries to improve his golf game.
