Footballer Mark Hateley on his incredible career & beating a horror ankle injury
In his stellar football career, Mark Hateley played for some of the world's biggest clubs including A.C.Milan, Monaco, and Rangers as well as being capped 32 times for England. He also beat several injuries the worst of which was a catastrophic ankle dislocation which required several surgeries.
We chat to him about it all - what it was like to be a top player in those incredible days, the clubs, the friendships - life in Monaco with neighbours like Ayrton Senna, that famous haircut and the strong fitness ethic, instilled in him at a young age by his Dad who was himself a successful player.
Although at the time, with support from Arsene Wenger providing rehab, Mark recovered really well from his ankle injury, there were repercussions as he got older. In fact, Mark has gone under the knife with Prof Mackay several times now, including having fusion surgery on that ankle now to rid him of arthritic pain.
As a Centre Forward renowned for his ball-heading skills, Mark is now involved with organisations that are looking into the science and ways to eliminate head injury, in particular concussion, in sports especially in youngsters.
In summary - this is a brilliant race through the amazing football career of one of our greatest players with injury tips thrown in along the way - don't miss it.
