Instead of replace with a prompt, today I'm breaking down the four futures of freelancing, and by the end of this episode, you're gonna know exactly which path you're on, and more importantly, which one you need to pivot to before you're replaced by a robot. So let's jump on in. Welcome, welcome back, my friends to the Serve Scale SOAR podcast.
My name is Brandi Mowles I am so stinking excited to be back. We took a little break, a hiatus, and now we're back to do things big in 2026, and I'm so glad you're [00:01:00] here. And this podcast is all about helping one-on-one service providers scale their business so they can create big girl money, get their clients ridiculously good result, and live a life full of freedom and flexibility.
And if you are a returning listener. I'm so glad you're back. Welcome back. I'm excited to be back and y'all, today we're gonna have some real talk because I've been working with over 3000 service providers in the last six year, and what I'm seeing right now is a massive split happening in our industry.
Some of you are about to thrive in ways you never imagined, like it's about to be your best year ever and others. They're gonna get left behind and replaced with a robot. This is not fear mongering or anything like that because you know me. I'm gonna tell you what's up. I'm gonna give you the hard truth, but then I'm gonna tell you how to fix it.
So I'm giving you all that today, and it's [00:02:00] not because these people aren't smart, they're not talented or anything like that. It's because they're not seeing what's coming. So here's what I'm gonna cover today. In today's episode, the four possible Futures. For your freelancing business and yeah, one of them's terrifying.
The real reason why some service providers are landing 12 K month retainer clients, while others can't even get a client to pay them a thousand dollars. And the one identity shift you need to make right now to become irreplaceable.
, So now that we know what the episode's about, let me ask you something. Have you worried this year or recently about AI replacing you? And you may be like, Brandy, I wasn't until I turned on this episode.
Once again, this is not fear mongering, I promise you that, but we just have to be real with what's going on in the world. And I've thought about it and I've thought a lot about it, and I've spent a lot of time talking to AI specialists about it. I've spent a lot of time talking to other business owners that [00:03:00] have a million dollar business a year.
And what they're doing with their employees and just how the overall economy in the US especially is right now when it comes to small businesses. But here's what I have figured out. AI isn't your enemy. It's actually the golden age of freelancing if you know how to position yourself correctly. Because what's gonna happen is we've had so many people since 2020 come into the online space as freelancers, as service providers, and so it's got crowded now.
I don't think it's saturated, but there are more people now. Freelancing working from home than there was before 2020. That's just a fact. And freelancing is the fastest growing industry. And so if you don't know how to position yourself correctly, if you're just doing general VA work, if you're just doing general admin, just copywriting, you can be replaced with ai, but if you're offering a highly sought after skill and you know how to position yourself, [00:04:00] you are gonna be paid a premium.
Price. So I do think this is a good thing for the one-on-one freelancing industry. So here's what's happening. Clients used to pay for the doing. The people who are the busy worker bees in your business, and maybe you're a worker bee right now. They wanted the doers, the button pushers, the test checker offers.
And if you were around in 20 20, 20 21, you remember everyone was hiring massive teams. I always call it the Peloton effect. And people were hiring, hiring, hiring. And then after the like high moments of 20 20, 20 21, everyone started doing layoffs. And their business wasn't as profitable as it was because everything went back to how it was in 2019.
It stabled out. And so in 20 20, 20 21, we had people that were like just getting hired left and right, and then there was a big drop off
but now as we're in 2026, , they're back to usual, [00:05:00] and we now have robots that have entered the game and clients aren't looking for more doers, tasks, checkers. They've already replaced those people with robots that they can pay $20 a month for.
They don't want more deliverables. AI can pump out content all day long. What they're desperate for is someone who knows where they're going. They need someone to lead because they're overwhelmed with all the options and the possibilities out there. So let me break down the four possible futures for your business, and I want you to be really honest with yourself about where you're at right now and where you want to go.
Okay, so future one is the continuation business as usual. This is where you keep doing what you've been doing. Some same services, same rate, same pricing, same way of finding clients. You ignore AI and hope it just blows over. This is a trend, which honestly, I don't think this is a trend. I do think we'll get to a tipping point, but I think AI's gonna be here to stay.
Here's what happened. [00:06:00] Inflation continues to go up. It eats into your profits. You work harder just to stay in the same place. You're constantly competing with low price beginners or robots, and you're feeling exhausted, stagnation, burnout. You're on the hamster wheel and you just can't get off.
Look, I'm not here to sugarcoat what's going on. If you stay here, you're gonna see a gradual decline. And I know some of you are thinking, but Brandy, I'm doing fine right now. Cool, great, awesome. But it's fine where you wanna be in 2026. Ask yourself so you can continue on as usual, but you probably will see a decline.
Nothing is just a stagnant line. You are either CL moving closer to your goals. And you're improving. Even if it's a 1% improvement each month, you're improving or you're getting further away from your goals. There is no just maintaining. Even if you're in a maintaining stage, your business that is either doing better or doing worse, and usually a maintenance.
We're moving further away [00:07:00] from our goals 'cause we don't have momentum on our side. So that's future one. The continuation business as usual. Future two is the decline. The commodity path. This one's rough, y'all. This is where you double down on low value implementation. Without evolving, you Try to compete on speed or price against AI and overseas agencies
clients replace you with robots or they replace you with $5 an hour VAs overseas. The outcome, you become replaceable. I've watched this happen from podcast management getting replaced with the script.
AI can edit episodes super quick. Copywriters have taken a massive hit. Ones that used to be able to charge $20,000 now struggle to get. 2K clients because people think chat, GBT can write their sales page better than a copywriter and for a cheaper price and for a quicker outcome. Now does that mean that the quality is at the same level?
No. But if [00:08:00] the client only thinks Hey, I'm saving 18,000, it's quicker and it does the job, they're probably gonna go with that. Your premium services become a commodity and you panic, you become financially unstable and honestly, most people give up their business at this point. And listen, this isn't fear mongering.
I told you that's not my jam. This is just where I've seen people go. This is just one of the four paths you get to decide which one you take. So if you try to compete with price, if you try to compete with robots, if you try continue to go down this path of doing low level tasks, va work things that clients don't see value in anymore, then you will be replaced.
And so don't worry though if this is where you feel like you are right now in the decline, the commodity path. I'm gonna give you a different path you can take. Okay, so future three is the Discipline, the [00:09:00] Lean Specialist. This is actually a good place to be. You can stay in Future Three or Future four and be successful.
So I'm not saying you have to go to Future four. Future three is a great place. If you want to make, anywhere between a thousand and $8,000 a month, and that's where you wanna max out, this can be a good place for you to be. And this is where a lot of my ad managers, y'all are gonna fall into this one. This is where you maintain strict boundaries. You hyper niche down and you're still using ai, but you're not using it probably at the best of its ability, but you are keeping boundaries.
You're doing your service. You are super niched down to what service, who you offer, and you're doing a skill that AI can't fully replace. Like ad management, like that is a skill that like people don't even know how to log into their ad manager. So like they need your help. This is gonna be one of those skills if you're doing something like social media management that can be [00:10:00] replaced.
But if you're doing videos and creating high quality video content, that's something that can't be replaced. People need the videos, and yes, AI can do some of that, but the average person can't do the video. And a lot of times we need the video recorded first and then use ai. So there are niches
and services that won't be replaced. And then there are services that will, so if you're in the discipline with a lean specialist and you're hyper niche down, you can stay here and be good. You run a lifestyle business that's small and manageable, but you will become capped. Like I said, if you have no goals to ever get past 8,000, this could be a good place to stay.
The outcome you survive, you work efficiently, you're safe, but you're not scaling past eight K, and this is where you get to decide what is your bigger vision for your business. If it's to stay under 10 K, this is a great spot.
If you want to go past that, then we have to look at the next future. And there's nothing wrong with this path. If you're happy there, I know [00:11:00] some of you are thinking that sounds pretty good actually, and that's genuinely where you wanna be. That's your business. You do you, there's no shame in your game.
But if you're listening to this podcast and you wanna scale to 15, 20, 30 k, months, you want more. You want more outta your business. You want more outta your life. You want more in your bank account. And if that's you, future four is where you're gonna wanna go in 2026. And this is the transformation, the strategist path. This is where we teach you in strategist Society how to step into level four, the transformation.
Become the strategist because this is in 20 26, 20 27, where you will get paid the most and with AI, where you become truly, truly irreplaceable. And this is where some of you may wanna pivot this year, so right now, if you're in future three, but you're like, Brandy, gosh, these 20, $30,000 months, they sound good, then it may be time to pivot and [00:12:00] move into the future.
Four, the transformation, the strategist path. This is where we embrace the shift you sell outcomes. Not ours, not deliverables. You use AI to handle the heavy lifting of implementation so you can focus on high level thinking, consulting, and strategy. You're gonna paid for your brain, not your hands. The outcome.
You work less because AI is your assistant. Doing the $20 an hour work, you earn significantly more because you're paid for your brain, not your doing. And here's the big one. You become ear replaceable because you provide the human insight, the emotional intelligence, and the custom strategy that AI cannot replace yet the feeling here is freedom, abundance.
You're in your strategist era. Let me give you a real example of this. I had a client pay me $1,800 for one hour to talk about systems. $1,800 for one [00:13:00] hour of consulting. How many of you are charging less than 1800 for full ad management?
And when you step into the strategist, you have one hour and you can charge 1800. And we didn't even talk about marketing and ads. We talked about her systems and setting her up for a really successful launch of a mastermind. One hour y'all $1,800. And what did I do afterwards? It was me on Zoom for an hour, and then I delivered several deliverables that were all done with ai.
The transcript, her to-do list, the onboarding that she needed. All that was taken care of with ai. All I had to do was show up for one hour, $1,800. That's when you get paid for your brain, not your hands.
That's what happens when you position yourself as a strategist, not a doer. People will pay premium prices for your brain when they can get things done quicker and cheaper elsewhere. So I want you to ask yourself, where [00:14:00] are you at right now? Which of the four futures? There is no judgment here. We just have to identify it.
No one's looking at you. You don't have to type this into a chat or anything like that, but be real honest. Which of these, if nothing changed in your business right now, which of these four futures are you?
Are you in future one, future two, future three, future four. So let me just quickly remind you, future one is the continuation business as usual. Future two is the decline. You become a commodity. Future three is the discipline. You stay that lean specialist. Future four is the transformation, the strategist path.
So tell me right now, where are you? Because here's the thing, good enough, won't cut it anymore. Doing more, having more deliverables, won't cut it anymore. You can fumble your way to 10 K months. I've seen it happen. But to get past that, to hit consistent 15, 20, 30,000 months, [00:15:00] you need to step into a new identity, a new path, a new future.
And I know some of you're thinking, but Brandy, I'm not smart enough for that. I don't know enough. I need more certificates, more skills, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. What I'm teaching you today isn't about being smart enough.
It's not about knowing enough. It's about stepping into an identity and learning the soft skills that AI can't replace communication. Emotional intelligence, being able to meet clients where they are and bringing them down when they freak out. Because we know clients go from zero to a hundred and get in freakout mode.
You are more valuable when you can bring them the real numbers and bring them back down than AI is. This is what makes you irreplaceable the soft skills, and knowing enough is always a concern for everyone, but the best way to know more is by doing, and you'll never learn until you actually [00:16:00] step into being a strategist.
How strategists think, how they break down plans, how they lead. It's not about being smart enough or knowing enough. It's about doing the dang thing. So here's one action step you can take for today. I want you to look at your current situation and ask yourself, can I be replaced with a prompt? If you're just writing social media posts, designing basic graphics, editing podcasts, managing inboxes, yes, you can be replaced.
But if you're providing real services like ad management, funnel builds and providing strategy. If you're leading clients, if you're using your emotional intelligence to guide them, that that can't be replaced. And if you're the first category right now, it's time to pivot. It's time to add strategy to what you do.
It's time to sell not only your deliverables, but your brain, [00:17:00] the strategy, the execution, and the curation. So if you're sitting here thinking, Brandy, I hear you. I wanna step into my strategist error, but I don't know how to make the shift. I don't know how to restructure my offers, my messaging, my pricing.
