Groundwork has not always been a method that people knew existed.

In the past, when few people were doing groundwork here in Europe, I did a lot of groundwork with my horses in preparation for international competitions.

When I performed my exercises and groundwork patterns in the warm-up ring, people looked at me like I was a weirdo. I was even asked once by the ringmaster to stop doing the groundwork!
