Today we're going to be talking all about building a career that you love. Career satisfaction is essential for your overall health in general, because there are so many people that are working in a job right now that is just eating away at them. And it's because they are not aligned with where they need to be. The connection between career fulfillment and the legacy that you leave is vast. I sit and I think about my parents. It's the best example I can think of. And I think of my mom working for decades as the top accountant in Texas. Well, my mother was in charge of all of the finances and checks payable and money coming in for the entire state of Texas child protective services. You don't get to that level if you're incompetent. You, in fact, have to be very, very good at what you do. She had people on her employee that would make 10 million mistakes and she would fix them. She was extremely satisfied with her career. And it allowed her to not only do work that was impacting many, many lives, but it also allowed her the time and the energy to put effort into her family, to make sure that I, as her only child, was always a priority. And part of my mother's legacy is that she was a Girl Scout leader. And she was a Girl Scout leader on steroids. She finished my Girl Scout group and was like, all right, I'm done. And then she found a little second grade girl that needed something to do. And she's like, well, I'll start a Girl Scout troop for her. And she took the second grade girl all the way up through her senior year and was even a council leader for a should allow you to still have space and time for other legacy building opportunities. So how do we build a career that we love? Well, there are a couple different ways we could go about this. You can work for someone else and you work a traditional nine to five or some semblance thereof and you are an employee and there's nothing wrong with that. Or you become an entrepreneur and you build a business that you love. Thing with being an entrepreneur is you stop working nine to five and you start working 24 seven. It is so hard sometimes to remember that I don't work when I'm not working and that I need to focus on the things that are right in front of me. So there are pros and cons to both. But if you want to build a career that you love, There are three strategy pieces that I want to give you to help you build that out. So how do we build a career that we love? Strategy number one, identify your strengths and your passions. I have been very blessed to be mentored by Ken Coleman. Ken Coleman is a Ramsey personality, number one national bestselling author, and he focuses on the career space. And one of the things that he talks about is making sure that your talents, passions, and mission are aligned. What does that mean? Well, we find what we do best and then that's our talents, right? And then our passion is the type of work that we love doing. Do you love working with your hands? Do you love working with numbers? Are you a people person? Would you rather be in a dark room and not have people around you at all? And then you can find your mission. Your mission is a result that you care deeply about. For me, I care very deeply about helping people get in control of their money so that they can leave a legacy. I think that this world would be so much better off if we had people who had lots of money that they could give to other people. If we created a world of generosity. What a beautiful place we would live in. So you have to get something, the key strategy here. We have to get clear on what our strengths and our passions are. There are many different ways to do that. But I think one of the great ways to do it is to ask your friends and your family, what are my talents? Ask people that love you, that care about you, that know who you are, hey, what are some of my talents? They're going to tell you something. They're going to come back with something. And hopefully, they're going to help you by giving you some ideas or some things that you maybe didn't recognize in yourself. Think to yourself also, what kind of things come easy to you? What are some things that you do on a regular basis that is so easy, you're like, well everybody does it. For me, I actually enjoy making budgets. I thought everybody knew how to do that, but no, not only does everybody not know how to do that, but a lot of people don't even like doing it. So it's really important to look at what are some things that you do that you find easy and can help other people because you were so good at it.

And with that said, if you have a budget that isn't working for you right now, or you've never made one to begin with. I have a resource that's just for you, it's called the better budget bootcamp, and it takes your core values. The things that are most important to you in your family. And it helps you create a budget that aligns perfectly with that. The better budget. Bootcamp is a five day on demand course, 15 minutes of your time for five days. You'll be able to build out a dream budget for you. Based on what's most important to you because yours is going to look totally different than mine. And that's okay.

And then, you know, is there somewhere that you've received an award? That you've done a great job and people have recognized you for doing well in a certain area. If you can look at these three key questions, you are going to find your strengths and your passions. The second strategy to finding a career that you love or building a career that you love is to then research growth opportunities within your field or industry. Now, if you are already working in industry and you're like, this does not line up with my strengths and my passions, we'll have to talk about changing careers and we'll get there eventually. But if you are in a business that you enjoy, or you really like working with the people that you work with and you want to keep doing what you're doing, Where does the growth come? What, what kind of next steps do you have? Go to your manager and say, Hey, I want to talk with you about what a growth plan looks like for me in this business. I really want to continue to get back and grow. And that also means that I might need to take a step back and do some continuing education, but it might also mean, Hey, if you can get this one certification, we can give you a raise. And that is always awesome, because strategy number three is to align your career choices with your financial goals. Overall, we know that a fulfilling career can lead to a higher income over time. If you're passionate about what you do, you will become very good at it. Think about all these real estate agents that sell million dollar homes. They do it because it's their focus. They are constantly thinking about real estate and strategies and marketing and how to get people into these homes and how they can make connections and how they can get the right people into the right homes. They are lit up, not necessarily because of the money. But it's not just the money that lights them up. It's the chase. It's the win. It's the connection. It's becoming the key that is missing, the piece of the puzzle that's missing. That's what they get to do. And so they are very fulfilled by their career. Now, if you were only chasing money, you are going to find that you are seriously disappointed at the end of the day. Your career fulfillment should have more to do with your mission and your purpose. and less to do with the amount of income. However, if you were like, well, if I'm going to make a change in the world, I'm going to have to be impoverished and I'm going to have to never make money. That's a horrible plan. Guys, this is not real. This is not real life. Think about it. There are plenty of educators in the world. Not all of them are teachers in a classroom. Some teachers in a classroom can still, even though they don't get paid enough, like, let's be honest, I have to deal with four kids at home right now. I don't know how a teacher can do. Possibly 16 to 30 children in a room. I don't know. I think we should pay them more, honestly. But teachers, as underpaid as they are, are still one of the top five categories of people. Who are most likely to become millionaires because they follow a strict plan. Teachers make lesson plans all the time and they know how to follow a good plan. So a teacher can still become a millionaire and retire comfortably, but Amy Porterfield is a teacher and she makes millions and millions of dollars a year. She's a multi seven figure business. And she. makes her money by teaching. So you could come to me and go, well, I'm supposed to be an educator. That means I'm going to be broke. No, my friend, it does not. You could come to me and say, well, I have a mission to serve hurting people and I'm going to have to start a nonprofit. That's great. You know what a nonprofit that makes no money is called? Out of business. That doesn't work. You have to make money as a non profit. The NFL, just for the record, is a non profit. They make good money. Any business that you start, you can start as a non profit and you can bring in a ton of money and give yourself a huge salary and then have no profit at the end of the year because all of it went to salary. That happens a lot. There are a lot of really shady non profits out in the world. Your career fulfillment, Can and probably will lead to higher income over time. You may have to start lower. You may have to go from the job that you're at now to somewhere with a lower income, but over time you will make more money. This also will positively impact your long term health. One of my clients that I'm thinking of in particular has been going through just the roughest time. She's at a job and she's like, I don't know why God brought me here. This is the worst. She wakes up crying and it has been absolutely terrible. She's like, but I make really good money. I have to stay here. I'm like, no, no, no, you don't. The difference her husband sees in her, the difference I see in her, in just 10 short days of her no longer working at that company, it's night and day. She is lighter, she is brighter, you can see the smile radiating off of her. You don't have to stay in a place that you hate, just because you're good at the work, and the money's good. That does not make for a sustainable lifestyle. So you need to take actionable steps to align your career up for your own success. Friends, it's not hard. You identify your strengths and your passions. You research how you can grow. In your field or industry. And then you just realign yourself, realign your career choices. Now, obviously there are more steps involved in actually getting the job, but this is the beginning. This is getting clear on the things that matter most to you so that we can get you into the job that you really love. Friends, remember that the decisions we make today impact our lives and our legacies. So make sure that you align your career and you build out a career that is something that you love because people are going to be talking about you in the future. And you want to make sure that when they think about you and the work that you do, they look on it with fondness and they say, she was really good at that. He was really good at that. And he made the world a better place because he did that. That is what it means to find fulfillment in your career. That is what it means to build a career that you love.
