If you've been enjoying the story and want to take your English further, then everything is there for you. Now let's begin today's episode with a snapshot of what's to come. At the Roman baths in Bath, Gabriel experiences a deeply soothing atmosphere. The warm water feels restorative, helping his body recover from weeks of travel. He becomes completely tranquil, enjoying a rejuvenating massage, and finishes the experience feeling calm and relaxed. It was deeply comforting. Oh, how nice for Gabriel. Let's now take a closer look at some of that vocabulary in the vocabulary breakdown. First we have soothing soothing S O O T H I N G. If something is soothing then it calms you or relieves discomfort. For example, the warm water had a soothing effect on his muscles. Next we have restorative Restorative R E S T O R A T I V E Restorative. If something is restorative, then it's something that helps you regain energy or strength. For example, a good night's sleep can be very restorative. Next we have tranquil tranquil T R A N Q U I L. Tranquil describes something peaceful, calm and quiet. For example, the garden was a tranquil place to relax. Next we have rejuvenating rejuvenating R E J U V E N A T I N G. If something is rejuvenating then it makes you feel fresh, energized or renewed. For example, the holiday was rejuvenating after a stressful year. Finally, comforting comforting C O M F O R T I N Gething is comforting then it makes you feel safe, relaxed or less worried. For example, her voice was calm and comforting. Fantastic. How many of those are new to you? I want you to listen out for them now as they appear quite naturally in today's story. Gabriel was in Bath. He was spending the day there before starting to head back east to catch the Eurostar to France later in the week. He spent the morning wandering through the city, admiring its Georgian architecture before making his way to one of the famous Roman baths to which the city owes its name. He was going to pamper himself. His first stop was a soothing hydrotherapy pool. Warm, mineral rich water surrounded him, jets massaging his back and shoulders in slow, deliberate rhythms. Every sign of stress just melted away, leaving him feeling incredibly tranquil. He let his mind drift, imagining the centuries of visitors who had sought the same waters for comfort and healing. After the pool he moved to an aromatherapy steam room. Gentle clouds of lavender and eucalyptus filled the air, wrapping him in a restorative scent. Each breath seemed to calm not only his body but his thoughts, easing away the fatigue of weeks of travel. Being on the road for nearly three months takes its toll even if you don't realise it at the time. Next he enjoyed a rejuvenating massage. Skilled hands worked through the knots in his back and the tightness in his neck, kneading away discomfort and tension. The warmth of the oils, the slow rhythm and the careful pressure combined to create a deeply comforting sensation. He felt a rare sense of stillness in his body. Then, finally, he went up to the rooftop aquasana session. A luxurious combination of thermal currents and gentle water pressure. Floating in the warm mineral rich water, he felt completely renewed from head to toe. Time seemed to evaporate as the spa's calming effect settled over him, leaving him serene and almost weightless. Reluctantly he stepped out of the water and wrapped himself in a soft robe, savouring the lingering calm. As he was getting ready to leave the spa complex, his mobile started to ring. The ringtone was wonderful by oasis, so he knew it was Sophie.
SPEAKER_01Hi, Sophie. How are things in Lyon?
SPEAKER_00He asked in an extremely contented voice. But Sophie's voice was rushed, urgent, instantly snapping Gabriel out of his tranquillity. She blurted out My parents have been in a car accident, Gabe, and I'm coming home. All right, let's pause the story there at that very dramatic moment and once again put our focus on today's vocabulary. I will repeat each item twice, leaving a little gap for you to repeat them after me. Do so out loud, if you can, and work on your pronunciation. I will then remind you of the definition. Let's go. Repeat after me. Soothing. Soothing. This is something that calms you or relieves discomfort. Next, repeat after me. Restorative. Restorative. This is something that helps you regain energy or strength. Next, repeat after me. Tranquil. Tranquil. Yes, fantastic. This is something that's peaceful, calm, and quiet. Next, rejuvenating. Rejuvenating. This is something that makes you feel fresh, energized, or renewed. And finally, repeat after me, comforting. Comforting. Fantastic. This is something that makes you feel safe, relaxed, or less worried. Excellent. Now, all of those words are brilliant for describing recovery, relaxation, and emotional calm, which is useful if you're talking about holidays, well-being, or self-care. And just as Gabriel finds a moment of complete peace, everything changes. Tomorrow, Gabriel begins to reflect on his entire journey. But that reflection is interrupted by something far more serious as he rushes to be there for Sophie. That's all from me for today. Did you enjoy it? If you did, then I would greatly appreciate if you take just one second to leave a like, a rating, or review. I hope to tickle your eardrums again tomorrow. Until then, take care and goodbye.
