A Nicolaitan is any person, inner voice, or appetite which teaches us that it is permissible to continue in unrepentant sin. Nicolaitanism conquers Christians by invalidating their discipleship. It deceives them into believing they are followers of the Lord, while they neglect to follow Him in their everyday heart attitudes, choices, and behaviors. The greatest danger of Nicolaitanism is not the moral degradation but the outright denial of the Gospel. Jesus did not enter our world so that we might partake of good manners or morals. Rather, God sent His only Son into the world so that we might live through Him (1 John 4:9).
