practice life why why is loving yourself so important you think loving yourself

0:05

is everything and we're not taught how to do it we're not so um it's beautiful

0:12

being able to you know help guide people into loving themselves more deeply and I

0:18

can only speak to it from what I've been through with it yeah you know when you

0:24

love yourself you just treat yourself with so much more kindness you respect

0:30

yourself you feed yourself well you um only put yourself around people that are going to better you and help you and

0:36

guide you and it's [Music]

0:50

just Amy thank you so much thank for having me yeah absolutely

0:57

it's uh it's I was just talking to you about about this before we started that even though I am at your gym uh as much

1:06

as I am at my house uh daily almost except for weekends um you and I've

1:11

never really sat down and talked so I'm really excited to see what unfolder and it's your birthday so uh it is yes today

1:19

I'm 40 we have all kinds of reasons to celebrate today yes 40 but looks like 25

1:24

hey you know some of us can't be so lucky although I've been getting

1:30

compliments lately that these kids keep thinking I'm in my 30s and I'm like you're fooled by the hat and like the

1:36

way that I dress because like if I to if I had all this you know and let this grow it's like it's like a Santa Claus

1:42

beard at this point it's all gray so well I think it's it's like a state it's like you're so joyful that you you seem

1:48

younger than you are and you take meticulous care of yourself so that helps and I that's the same way I like

1:54

look at myself it's like just see the joy just see the Gratitude and it just it shines through yeah cool I appreciate

2:00

that yeah I didn't thinking about the way that's a better way of looking at it yesterday I was at a school visit and his kids were like you're like I was

2:05

like he said something about was popey around before you or what did Popeye was

2:11

out when you were a kid and I was like dude Popeye is like from the 1920s I was like how old you think I am he's like 27

2:17

and I'm like you're my best friend now just a big kid right that's just a big

2:22

giant kid so um I going to jump in here real quick with a a kind of a tough question out of the gate so how we

2:29

Define Hope on the show is a little different than the uh de the dictionary definition we call Hope as a impact

2:36

point a starting point and so what we need is this technition to get going on something right that maybe seems

2:42

impossible and then as you start going down that path as you know you're going to fail and something's going to happen

2:47

and most of the time people think that I've failed and I've fallen off but we also Define hope as the way back to that

2:52

path right to see that maybe you didn't fail that you just have a new starting point so with knowing that definition

2:58

the first question is is like if you can go back at any point in your life and give yourself hope like at what point

3:04

would that be and what sort of advice would you give to that version of a so for me finding hope in

3:14

myself um came when I found Stillness and I learned to sit yeah and

3:21

be still and not numb yeah and so to be in like incredible pain mhm and be able

3:28

to sit there and just feel it without reaching for anything else was

3:33

where I learned to love myself where I learned to listen to

3:38

myself um for me I found like my body is always giving me signals and it's

3:44

speaking to me all the time in every single day in every single way but we're never still enough to listen MH so in

3:53

Stillness and that's when I discovered meditation um and this was around the time where I became a mom okay so just

4:00

that like overwhelm of being a new mom and I had two babies back to back very

4:05

quickly and so that um helped me get my feet back underneath me and listen to

4:12

myself and um that just you know is still a huge part of my every single day

4:18

today yeah cool and so what when you first started um what what sort of

4:25

problems was that in getting still like what like if somebody's new to this idea what you know what would be the quote

4:31

unquote normal that they could expect you know somebody that's mastered it like what can you remember back to well

4:37

I mean when I started meditating I would I was listening to somebody I was doing guided meditations but I was finding

4:44

that I didn't want to sit still I didn't want to I didn't want to sit with myself I wanted to reach for Netflix I wanted

4:50

to grab a drink I wanted to eat something like all the things that were just fed to distract us so um that's

4:59

when I just like flipped and you know was so lost and just literally sat my

5:06

butt down on the floor and just didn't move and it was painful you know it's

5:12

painful just sitting there in your chest and you don't know how to do it and you just think you can't do it so um you

5:18

know just grabbing my phone putting headphones in pulling up an app and learning just became like right away I

5:25

felt relief and so as you go it took me three years to sit with myself completely silent so guided meditations

5:33

up until up until then yeah and then um I decided to go get trained and I did

5:40

that and then I was able to just like sit and you know every year it's like this deeper level of being able to sit

5:47

there yeah yeah and so what what brought that as to the solution for you like

5:53

what was there a catalyst that made you think that like okay I'm new mom I have

5:58

all this stuff going on you know I can relate 100% to the not liking yourself um what was it that made you choose that

6:06

I just had this feeling that if I didn't choose that I don't know where I'd go

6:12

and it you know where I would end up would not be what I know I'm here to do yeah I just have this like deeper

6:18

knowing that that was what I needed to do yeah yeah and what has there been something that just you would say like

6:26

it was like the most like profound thing that like you still kind of pull back on

6:31

like I I give you context from my side maybe it will help kind of what I mean

6:36

is um I had I I do the same thing you know meditation and mindfulness and all that stuff like that and um this last

6:44

summer um had this huge Revelation that little me has been directing all of my

6:50

stuff all along and um it change I was writing a book at the time it changed

6:55

everything so like I still every day as I sat down to meditate I remember that

7:01

because for whatever reason it felt like that was the the big aha like this and

7:07

this is years of doing it it was like that was what I've been searching for um

7:12

have you had any like that where yeah shocked you I guess oh yeah so I've had

7:17

there's two things so one is in tandem with the meditation um I started learning ifs therapy which I've talked

7:24

to you just a little bit about um and that's internal family systems so I started working with this therapist who

7:30

the sessions are almost meditative and you learn so like for example I'll just

7:36

make this a quick story I learned that when my sides tingle okay like my

7:42

obliques I'll get this like tingling sensation in them that means that that's

7:47

my 12-year-old self who is has had a wound who is popping up to try to

7:53

protect me and so if I'm being like defensive in some way and I feel that tingle you know in some sort of

8:00

situation I know that I have to like pause for a second check in with how my body's feeling tell that part of me that

8:08

I don't need that right now like she's okay um she's not needed in this moment

8:13

and then I can move past that yeah so it's it's wild and then the other thing

8:18

was um I had this one meditation that was like this total out of body

8:24

experience and it was you know like when you're checking out at a store and you have a ton of items and the receipt is

8:30

just like long long long long long it keeps going right so I had this one meditation where I finally learned

8:37

gratitude like gratitude hit me like a ton of bricks and I was just so in awe

8:42

of like the Gratitude of my life and there was this receipt that just kept growing growing growing and it was of

8:49

all of the things that I'm grateful for and it just kept going and it was hundreds of things and I was like you

8:55

know it wasn't it wasn't me doing it anymore it was something higher and so it was like my higher self just like

9:02

listing all the things that I'm grateful for off and since that day I mean I can't not see it yeah like it's what I

9:09

see everywhere that's really really cool yeah and I think it it's it's interesting to me because there's been a

9:16

lot of times where I've had stuff like that and do you ever wonder like has

9:22

that always been there and you just ignored it masked by all these problems that you

9:29

perceives and you almost go like why did we wait so long I think it's it's

9:34

because you were ready right I think it's waiting for you but you know you have to be ready and your body's really

9:40

smart it's never going to overwhelm you and it's like when you are ready to receive your your body will let you know

9:47

so like if I'm somebody out there that's listening to this and they're going like you know hey like I feel tingles here

9:54

like how did somebody get started in something like that um I know you have your the root of that yeah like what

10:00

what is like a good beginner guide you know for somebody to kind of go like to start exploring that to see that there's

10:06

more to it than just a tingle you yeah um I mean it's if you're going to take

10:11

that therapy route it's working with someone who's you know certified and who's incredible like my therapist was

10:18

incredible um but otherwise it's just doing guided meditations that teach you

10:24

to listen to the body like to when we're deep into meditation like even in my plaes class es we'll get really grounded

10:31

we'll get relaxed we'll notice how much tension's in our body without even doing

10:37

anything like right now where your tense a little bit like in your jaw in your shoulders so we get grounded we release

10:43

all of that and then underneath that when you're in the calm State tapping into just like feeling what it feels

10:49

like on your skin feeling what it feels like underneath your skin can you feel

10:54

your heartbeat um what else can you feel in your body there's all these like tingling and buzzing Sensations going on

11:01

all the time in your body is it in the pit of your stomach is it in your throat like all these things mean something so

11:08

it's just working with someone and learning what these things mean and it takes time it's a practice for sure but

11:14

it's like um now I know that if I'm like have a question with something or I'm

11:21

contemplating something that all I need to do is um go sit by myself get super super grounded get calm

11:29

and then just like listen to what my body's telling me and there's the answer all the time right that's cool I don't

11:35

need to go ask anybody else their opinion and what they think I just I need to go talk to myself yeah it's I I

11:42

think it's uh it's really cool when you figure out like what you can do as a Creator yeah for your life you know and

11:48

and it's it's scary as hell at first because I think and and I don't and I don't like again know anything about you

11:54

growing up or things that you went through or whatever but like if I'm going to guess that it te it seems to be

12:02

most people that I meet that think or understand the same sort of thing like we're talking about we always have

12:09

something from our childhood that we can look back on and go like oh yeah I felt

12:15

different or something was there and I was telling somebody this the other day that like it's interesting where people

12:21

that have the most profound things to say have been through the murkiest possible and you know if you could like

12:29

go back and talk to that younger version of you what do you think that they would

12:34

think talking to you now like yeah it's it's a long journey you know you

12:40

just now I'm just I I cannot care what anybody else thinks of me

12:47

right and I know I'm being judged you're being judged everyone's judging and but

12:54

it's their own problem and it's their own issue it has nothing to do with me MH and so to I know that looking back

13:02

that you know little girl would be like wow because I loved being like on stage

13:08

performing just being in the light like that just was who I was singing dancing like all that stuff performing all the

13:14

time and now I feel like I've found my own way to perform in my own creative

13:21

light yeah in the studio yeah and you have two little girls so I mean it's it's like that I'm sure as a parent it's

13:27

hard I know even from me it's hard to try to explain this to a kid like my one

13:33

child really is a lot like it's like almost like watching myself again and

13:38

it's difficult to explain to a kid I know like those things and it's and it's

13:44

hard I mean do you share the same sort of thing of like how hard it is to sit and watch them yeah go through the same

13:51

but you know that you can't there's nothing you can do it's really it's really like almost like helpless feeling

13:57

it is and it's it's so much it's so healing for you though to like it heals you watching them go through these

14:03

things and my girls are still really little they're four and five but we're definitely dealing with you know why is

14:09

my skin color this color and why is it not your color and um you know my husband's really good at helping

14:15

navigate those conversations and I'm learning at the same time with that and um you know my one daughter's exactly

14:22

like me she's so up and like she just loves life and she's just so joyful but it's a lot of energy M to deal with and

14:31

um so you know I really try hard to not be like quieting her down and telling

14:36

her you know it's too much and yeah it's a lot yeah it is but it's like you need

14:42

that when you were little you needed to have that freedom yeah that's it's it's really that that's really cool stuff and

14:48

I I want to talk a little bit about you know I guess to paint everybody picture like the gym is huge but there's always

14:54

a line waiting for your classes you know and and the hallway is always full and and um I've never been brave enough yet

15:01

to go in I been wanted to ask you why you haven't come to my classs

15:06

hard I I mean I I do the Andrea's hard class on Wednesdays but you know it's it

15:12

is uh it's in honestly it's intimidating and I think that um you know I think

15:19

with that being said though you know what I think is intimida about if

15:25

I'm being honest is just it's unknown right and it's the same sort of thing and I guess when you're talking about

15:30

your align program and things like that how do you set up somebody like myself that is like intimidated by the idea of

15:39

the unknown or maybe the fear sort of thing um what is a great way so if I'm

15:45

somebody that's been in your program for three years and somebody that's brand new what do you do to make somebody that

15:51

to kind of close that gap down for somebody because I know you have a big class that you have to focus on

15:56

everybody but then there's still those newbies that are kind of coming is youry to I think the number one thing

16:02

with me especially is like I do my best to make sure that a new person feels

16:07

safe and that means I'm like looking them in the eye I'm greeting them I'm welcoming them I'm introducing them to

16:14

everyone else um and once you hear that door click and it closes it is a full

16:20

experience for you and um we always start getting grounded so that's the

16:26

first thing is when we lie down on our back and we maybe breathe some oil in and we do some breath work we're always

16:33

relaxing we're shaking off the fear of like maybe this is new you're going to

16:38

be safe like we just you know relax a bit first because for anyone to get into

16:44

the studio like I'm so grateful for that it's a lot to get anywhere and for someone to show up for my classes like I

16:50

don't take that lightly um so we get in the space we calm our bodies down we

16:55

kind of feel around to feel how what our state is like like are we anxious are we angry like whatever you know whatever

17:01

you're feeling and then we just like very slowly begin to move we build our foundation like from the spine out so

17:08

it's nothing like you're starting and it's like fast and you're right into into it you know what I mean yeah so we

17:14

just like very much warm up and the whole time we're moving through things we're talking about the mind like

17:20

listening to your voice like are you being kind to yourself in this movement when it's hard or are you beating

17:25

yourself up so it's you become very aware of your mind while you're moving your body as well yeah um it's a

17:32

beautiful beautiful practice and then we I mean we work and then we bring it all

17:37

the way back down so I always Envision my classes as arches okay you know like we start we build and then we take it

17:44

all the way back down so yeah and how does it make you feel just curious like as as somebody that is um teaching or

17:52

leading this thing how what do you take away from it yourself it's a gift yeah like I know that this is is what I'm

17:58

here to do every time I get to do this it is um an experience for me that's

18:04

it's so beautiful to watch and I know it's my gift in this world to be able to

18:10

teach people how to feel right their bodies yeah I am so sensitive that I I'm so hyper aware of my body and the way it

18:17

talks to me and so I'm able to teach um and use certain words and queuing to

18:23

teach somebody how to actually feel their body and feel where air hits and feel what this muscle tingle means and

18:31

um that's cool so it's it's really beautiful yeah and is this something that you ever would have thought you'd

18:37

be doing no now like where like if you were to like kind of say like all right once I graduated high school or whatever

18:44

like what did you picture like how far away from the the the dream are you I

18:49

guess so to speak I so I went to college I wanted to be a photographer okay so that's what my degree is in okay um and

18:58

so I always was in front of the camera behind the camera so I got into a lot of modeling that way and then um just

19:06

really started understanding the body that way like in which way you know your body moves and um working with the

19:13

camera and then no Pilates no I I didn't I didn't foresee it but it's like it's

19:19

come full circle with the way we use media now and how um like I also work

19:25

for another company where I'm like modeling um health articles every single month um so it is full circle but also

19:33

um that's why I love life like you just to just be open to the possibilities

19:38

like you have no idea where you're going to end up right no idea yeah I was just talking about how I feel like we are all

19:45

in dream worlds yeah and like right now our our dreams just happen to be passing

19:50

by each other and we're having this conversation and who knows I mean maybe this is as deep as a conversation we

19:56

ever have but it's it's how there's so many people in our world that are like going through this and we're kind of floating through each other's dreams and

20:03

we can take pieces and we build our life right and it's interesting how things

20:08

that sometimes we at a young age perceive as going to be our future oh

20:13

yeah and how they revisit in some sort of way and you realize that you thought you left some of that behind but the

20:20

truth is is it's kind of always been right along there with you and uh that's

20:25

really cool and I think that to be able to bring that into movement in what you

20:31

do uh because I have watched I mean you watched your class as far as like as I'm

20:36

either on the rower or whatever I can see in the window and I'm like wow they're really doing some wild stuff in there and it is I think from an outsider

20:43

it is scary like was it scary for you the first time that you did Pilates as

20:48

well or was it did you feel like that oh I'm at home now like I my thing no no I

20:54

um I always tell my clients that when the first time I did platies I was angry oh wow interesting because it's so

21:01

challenging and it burns so deep like just that it made me angry and it made

21:07

me I I was like whoa I'm so aware of how how mean I'm being to myself you know

21:13

like I was like cussing myself out to get through a movement and it's so um

21:19

yeah and then after a while though of like I just kept showing up and I

21:25

realized that nothing else had had that effect on my body before okay and I am certified to teach everything under the

21:32

sun everything yoga um whatever training all of it and nothing made an impact on

21:38

my body the way the Pilates did and that's how it carried me like through two

21:44

pregnancies um healing from the pregnancies um I mean I get on that machine and I um it's therapy for me

21:51

yeah I cry I like it's my best friend I get on there to feel better I get on there to go through sadness I get get on

21:58

there to go through grief like anything yeah and you did the whole time you were pregnant too oh yeah wow yeah wow and

22:04

are the girls getting into it now oh yeah the girls love it I mean they've been doing platies since they were in the womb but um for me it never it

22:11

taught me the most about my body yeah like it taught me how to turn a certain muscle on and then release one that

22:17

doesn't need to be firing and like it taught me the intricacies of my body so well that I just there's nothing like it

22:25

that's amazing and does it translated from like knowing your body how has it worked as far as like relationships with

22:31

other people has it helped you also to understand the opposite aspect

22:37

instead of the physical like your emotional parts has it has it helped with that as well yeah I mean we talked through that in class like when we're in

22:43

something really challenging in a pose or a posture and it's like what's going on in your mind right

22:48

now um and it's all related all of it like how we practice in the studio for

22:55

stress out in the world yeah and how we react to it yeah and um we work through

23:01

the mindset of um letting things go things that we can't control um you know

23:07

working on ourselves loving ourselves so deeply because if we focus there and we

23:12

take that out into the world it's a ripple and what think of the good you

23:17

can do yeah and every single day when we end class we commit to taking really

23:22

good care of ourselves feeding ourselves well hydrating ourselves surrounding ourselves with the right people

23:28

um thinking more clearly about the media we consume like it's not just Pilates

23:34

right it is practice in life why why is loving yourself so important you think

23:40

loving yourself is everything and we're not taught how to do it we're not so um

23:47

it's beautiful being able to you know help guide people into loving themselves

23:52

more deeply and I can only speak to it from what I've been through with it yeah

23:58

you know when you love yourself you just treat yourself with so much more

24:03

kindness you respect yourself you feed yourself well you um only put yourself

24:09

around people that are going to better you and help you and guide you and it's

24:14

just you know yeah it I think it changes not only yourself but the people that

24:20

you're around too and it it's like you you start to go like it's a weird way of

24:27

I you know it's it's kind of like that cliche like you are the who you surround yourself by but true but it is it

24:33

happens naturally I think I think you you really start to and I think and I'm

24:38

curious if you're the same way when I was little I always had I picked up on

24:44

Vibes and the way that I grew up I thought that was

24:49

wrong right and so I always pushed it down which actually ended up making me

24:55

really hate myself even more because I felt like I was never true to who I felt like I was right and it's interesting

25:03

that the intimidation factor that loving yourself had and I always I always draw

25:11

back to that I needed to love myself so much that I had a brain tumor to wake my

25:18

ass up to it and I'm just curious if you could talk to that idea of like if somebody is out there like that what are

25:26

what are things that you bring to them or or start them to to be

25:31

open to the idea that like you aren't all of those things that you're telling yourself yeah I think the first thing is

25:37

being aware of all of the things you're telling yourself and actually like noting them down and like when you're

25:43

aware of the negative selft talk that's in there it's like it's heartbreaking yeah we're really shitty

25:50

to ourselves it's really horrible and then from there like just you know in

25:56

the pit of your stomach or maybe you don't and maybe I just did and it I I know when someone's right for me or

26:01

wrong for me I can feel it someone walks in the door and I know yeah um and it's

26:07

not out of like a I don't I don't know like a jealousy thing it's like a um it's a deep knowing and I get that

26:13

feeling in my gut if that person should be around me or not if they're safe or not um and it always has to do with will

26:19

they look me in my eye um you know things like that yep um and then

26:25

uh like when you find get the people around you who you're meant to be around

26:31

like the way the way you feel is so fulfilled like at work at the

26:36

gym um in my office particularly sitting there and um being

26:43

with the people that I love like it's taken a long time to get Peak to where you know where we have it now yeah and

26:50

where it is right now is like such a sweet spot and I'm so grateful for it because I feel so fulfilled being around

26:56

the people I'm around like I don't need to go out and find or go out and have drinks to you

27:04

know like I feel that fulfillment from the people I'm around every single day and when they're not there I miss them yeah and so it's just I'm so grateful

27:12

for that and do you think that like I think a lot of people's Mis misconception of it is that all you have

27:19

to do is love yourself um I tend to think that it's a reset every day every

27:26

day you know and I think that I think everybody's looking for a quick solution to it and I one of the things that I try

27:31

to do with what I do is make people understand it it's it's work this isn't

27:36

like an easy fix it's excruciating yeah you you you you button it up nice and

27:42

you put it in a in a in a way and all stuff like that but people don't understand it's like yeah you know plot

27:47

is a tool yeah to love yourself and you know there is's there is a way to do it

27:54

and there but there's also no wrong way you know and I think it's it's the big start and you know I guess the question

28:01

would be like if if I'm doing it wrong and and

28:09

comparing um how how do you raise that awareness when nobody has ever taught

28:15

you how to raise that awareness Yeah It's Tricky right It's Tricky um just

28:21

sitting down I would say and like finding that Stillness and learning how to meditate learning how to get in touch

28:26

with your higher like looking up higher self meditations are really powerful because you begin to

28:33

look up to that version of yourself rather than looking outside of yourself so it's like what you know in your gut

28:39

that you can be um I thought that was very powerful for me and I tap into her all the time

28:46

right like I spoke with her just before recording this podcast yeah um to make sure that you know what I speak is of my

28:53

highest and that I'm in some way helping one person right um and then the other thing that I

29:01

do and that I love and I think is really powerful is at the end of the night um

29:07

recapping your day okay and seeing what you could have done better what you did

29:12

really well so you're kind of like oh good job with that you're kind of like giving yourself a little pat on the back

29:18

and then you're also like thinking about ways you could have um dealt with that interaction a little bit better because

29:24

I don't know about you but like my days are so packed and fast that it's like a week goes by and you're

29:30

like you don't even remember the conversation you had with you know someone and um it's just that's been

29:36

really helpful for me in really slowing down reviewing my day um congratulating

29:43

myself for the like the good the WIS and then really thinking about what I can do

29:48

better yeah next time that's cool and what do you I mean you have bad days

29:54

right so like how how do you deal with that a bad day like you know when let's say you are somebody on the path of like

30:01

learning how to love yourself and then as everybody has a bad day happens like

30:07

what what does all that practice mean to get you through that day it's just you

30:13

have to look at it it's like it's all lessons all the hard stuff is here to teach you something so what' you learn

30:19

right don't just like let it float by and not think about it again what like sit down and think what did you learn

30:25

right it takes like a reflective practice yeah like instead of just moving fast you need to pause a little

30:31

bit and think back and think what you could have done better and what did you learn and what is it showing you because

30:37

you know that this is just a mirror right showing you you the real you the darker side of you and um we all have

30:46

it I think there's a I think personally that there's a ton to learn from your

30:51

dark Parts tons and I think that everybody's afraid to face that fear

30:56

because um well because we're trained to not yeah you know the world says avoid all

31:02

of this and escape to this or escape to that or whatever and you know I feel like the dark parts of us

31:10

are probably the bigger gift than all the bright stuff yeah yeah you can't be

31:15

afraid to look at the Shadow and doing Shadow work yeah is is Big it sucks it

31:22

sucks it sucks and I you know I've done it I've done workshops I've done um meditations things like that where I

31:29

even had to like you know ask people for their feedback about my shadow side like what is it about you that annoys what

31:36

about me annoys you and you have to be ready for that feedback but it's like

31:41

when you receive it it's always in a kind way right and it's just like thank you so much for being honest enough to

31:49

tell me that yeah like the people I am around are honest enough with me to tell me when I'm being that way yeah that's

31:55

cool and that's that's that's a testament I think to the trust that you've built with people because I

32:01

know for me going starting on that was tough because scary um it scared the

32:08

hell out of me because like for so long I was good at masking everything you

32:15

know it was like I I was I was a such a good self- sabotager yes you know that

32:20

anytime anything went well for me it's like well let's blow this up because you don't deserve it and but at the same

32:26

time being so good at presenting to the world this you know dude doing stuff

32:32

that's uplift and it's like yeah but man if you were inside here hearing what is

32:38

actually happening you would see that all I'm doing is trying to say what I wish I would hear and I I wonder like is

32:45

that something that you still like when you're doing your classes and you're teaching your alignment and your mind

32:51

awareness and all those things how much do you rely on those parts of you that

32:57

is the dirty Mucky stuff in trying to be a leader in that to not lose fact that

33:05

there people that are in front of you are really looking for that from you like that storyline that says like you

33:11

can get out of this stuff but to be a leader means to be vulnerable and open

33:16

and talk to your community about the things you're actually going through I

33:21

feel that I'm respected more when I open up and share those types of things with

33:27

people because then they see you're just the same you know we're all the same and

33:32

that's why having a community and not isolating yourself and talking to people

33:38

about the things you're going through even if it's embarrassing um and you feel shame around it it's it's everything yeah yeah

33:46

and I think I think shame is one of those things that um from a guy

33:52

standpoint um I think is the core of a lot of guy problems um I don't know

33:57

from a a woman's standpoint I think shame is I I don't know 100% because I feel

34:04

like shame is like something that from what I a lot of women I've talked to it's kind of almost like pushed on them

34:11

whereas guys that I've talk to I feel like that is the core of what our

34:16

problem usually is because we're taught to be manly and you know you pass that

34:22

crap off to something else or you push through it and I I feel like for me the

34:27

the shame was kind of like my Band-Aid that I would do it was almost like before this Kettle boils over boy you

34:34

better go down a shame spiral and like let some of that pressure off and just take all of it and just keep pushing it

34:40

down and and it just gets stored it until it erupts until it does right until there's something that like really

34:47

kicks it in and you know I I want to hear more about like you know your tell me more about your your whole system

34:54

that you developed um I don't I I want to hear a little bit about like um how

35:00

somebody gets involved in it I want to hear about like where we sign up for it and all those good things like that yes

35:06

let us know a little bit about that stuff a line is so we just went virtual this past year with it and we're going

35:13

to do another one in the spring so they'll be spring and fall um and it can be virtual and it's you don't even have

35:19

to step in the studio but it's a community of people not just women people always think Pilates is just

35:25

women and it's not there's a ton of guys getting involved um and through the process we obviously start at the start

35:32

at the beginning we we build our front foundations we work our way up to more challenging poses but throughout that

35:39

whole process we um Journal um you're prompted along the way we meditate

35:46

there's meditations every week that are in alignment with the class and so everything mind and body are connected

35:53

um you're also like journaling and writing through all those things and then it's just community and um yeah

35:59

it's a beautiful process and we usually do like 30-day um not projects or challenges I don't

36:06

like the word challenge but just like little containers um and it's it's just the

36:12

best best process so I don't have to be worried about if I'm completely new to this like I'm not going in with some

36:18

people that are like you know I look at yoga class and I'm like hey this person's like doing a bridge and I'm

36:23

like you know barely can touch my toes no it's the most beautiful part because there's people who've done a line uh for

36:29

five years straight and they always are refreshed and renewed and they like the

36:34

foundations are everything you're never too good for the foundations um and then there's people who are brand new and they don't know

36:41

anything at all and they're a little nervous but they just go for it and they learn so much about themselves and they

36:46

can't wait for the next one um so it's it's such a supportive Place awesome

36:52

yeah it's amazing and you can do it like just in your living room also and do you need equipment or anything like that or

36:58

very cool and then um do you guys like do some sort of like check-in or how does that oh yeah all the time we have a

37:04

like a private Community where we're talking all the time almost every day throughout that container and very cool

37:10

yeah it's awesome that's really cool and you and you're going uh you is you're also doing a Costa Rica trip right yeah

37:16

you you're like are you guys have like so many things like Exploring Life you know we're just we're loving it that's

37:22

awesome yeah we We've Got Big Dreams and we just love helping people on along the way and it's exciting yeah what is the

37:30

thing that you're looking forward to the most like if you could go forward like five years from now like is there something that you are working on now

37:37

that you go like wow I can't I really can't wait to see where that goes yeah I I feel very much like I'm at this limit

37:46

where I'm I can only help people that's why we created a line because I I can only have a certain amount of people in

37:52

my studio and I know I'm meant to help more people than this and so that's my work now

38:01

doing these um align virtual containers growing that and just bringing this

38:06

awareness to more as many people as you possibly can and are you wanting to get into like other businesses and different

38:11

things like that that are wanting to do that with their employees and stuff like that as well yeah oh yeah yeah very cool that's awesome yeah yeah you should

38:18

totally be in speaking just go out and start speaking to yeah doing some Keynotes and stuff like that because I

38:23

think there's a lot of that I have found in my where a lot of people are starting

38:29

to wake up in the corporate world and people that work in the corporate world to that idea of what it really does mean

38:36

to be self-aware and I I think I don't know I feel like I feel like the world

38:42

is Shifting in a way and I think that there's some of us that see it I think

38:49

because we've done like you talk about the dark the dark shadow stuff and you

38:54

and you kind of like you know like you said you don't give a what people think anymore and when you start doing

38:59

that you start to unplug yeah and that unplugging you start to see like well wait a minute this this world like I

39:05

thought it was this way like I could not tell you a single thing that is happening in the world around us like

39:13

it's like I've gotten to the point now where I'm like I'll I'll check in every once in a while and I'm like what am I

39:19

doing I don't want I don't want to do this anymore I don't watch the news I don't like I'm very I'm in bed by 8 you

39:25

know my little I I'm still a night out but like I just I still like it's always like I'd rather write than than do any

39:32

sort of other stuff yeah I'm on the same path like we don't watch TV it's just

39:38

it's too depressing much too much that's really cool is there so is there any

39:43

other things that we can talk about with your your programs that if I am somebody

39:49

that is wanting to get involved in some sort of way whether I'm a company or if

39:54

I'm an individual that you would direct them towards um finding you like I know

40:01

we'll put your your websites and your social medias and all those things like that but is there like some sort of way

40:07

that you can kind of like you know tell them the best place to start yeah I mean

40:14

if just to learn more we have a brand new website and it's beautiful so that's Peak human performance. us and then I'm

40:23

on Instagram that's the only social media platform I'm on good for you um

40:28

and then I just can't and um yeah I mean you could always email me if you have

40:34

any questions like our do is always open we're not going anywhere we are we just love helping people tap into you know

40:41

the best they can be and it doesn't it's not just Fitness so at our facility you know more than anyone you're not just

40:48

going to be working out yes it's about your mind it's about who you're being it's about who you're striving to be

40:54

what are your goals like having Community we all need that I will definitely say you know a plug to to to

41:02

Peak is what um what amazed me the first time I went in there was going in with

41:09

the intentions of this is just another gym to then leaving after the first day

41:15

um you know I worked out Alex the first time and so um I I think I said some

41:21

stuff to him that he was like I'm going to show him that he's wrong but it was amazing how um

41:27

I remember VI very very vividly that one of the first things he said to me was the face you're making is what your

41:33

body's telling you what to do and it was like wait a minute what the hell's going on here like what is this place and um

41:40

and then I also where I always be grateful for Alex is um he was one of the first texts that I got when I woke

41:46

up from my tumor surgery and he's he said this is why you did all this work yeah and it's it's it goes to show I

41:52

think a lot for what what your gym is and I will say um it is definitely a

41:59

community and not like a crossfit Community like kind of thing but a community of people that will not that

42:05

crossfit's a bad thing at all but like it's it's not go out and have beers and whatever you can have I've had so many

42:11

real conversations with people and made real friends there that uh I only see

42:18

you know for an hour but um kind of going in there and doing this stuff together and I think that's what you

42:24

guys have created and so cudos to you I mean it's it's really really cool and um you know all the coaches I haven't met

42:30

anybody there that you know you're like I don't like that person it's not like that you know and uh we just have fun I

42:37

mean a beautiful place and and I if you don't have that type of community in your life you're missing that and you

42:46

would benefit so greatly from opening yourself up and trying something I know it's intimidating to walk into it

42:52

absolutely I know yeah but what else is there what do you have to lose like if

42:57

you don't like it you don't come back but if you do like it like wow right and I think it's a lot of times I my

43:04

experiences have been is people will like new people will come up and talk to me and they're like yeah but you're doing and I'm like no no don't don't

43:11

compare what I'm doing to what you're doing it's got nothing and I and I love the fact that like I've heard that

43:16

multiple times from other members or I'll hear somebody say like yeah don't try to keep up with him he's on a

43:23

different thing and I'm like yeah I'm like don't even like on a whole another reason like why I'm here you know and I

43:30

think that's the beauty of there's at most gemms you kind of go in there is that intimidation Factor because you got

43:35

the guy over in the corner flexing in the mirror you like these different guys and whereas yours it is really like

43:42

young older like it is all over the place and everybody's doing the best they can and everybody's helping each

43:48

other out and it's it's really great yeah so if I'm if I'm checking it out like is it how do it work as far as like

43:54

is there like you get a free visit to check it out like a consultation like how do I Pilates is tricky because you

43:59

need to learn the machine a little bit so you don't want to just like come in a class so we always start with like a

44:04

starter package so in a starter package there's a private and then there's three classes cool yeah and then the other the

44:11

other if I want to join the gym is is it like you kind of come in for a consultant kind of thing yeah and there's like a we have like a 14-day

44:18

test drive where it's you know $50 for all access to the gym for two weeks yeah

44:24

um so it's it's a beautiful place to be and before we ended I definitely wanted

44:29

to pause and acknowledge you yeah because um the way you show up at the

44:37

gym is unlike anyone else and um you're

44:43

such an inspiration to everyone there given what you've gone through and to you it's uh there wouldn't be another

44:49

way like it just is what it is but so everybody else like they they are in awe

44:54

of you and we are in awe of the of what you bring to the I appreciate that yeah

45:00

thank you it's it's it's awesome to be there it really it really is it's like one of those weird things where it's

45:06

almost like your day is not complete like if I'm not if I'm on vacation yeah I'm always like man what am what they're

45:11

doing today like who's giving Kyle a hard time because I'm not there yeah and but yeah I a big

45:18

playground yeah I appreciate that a lot and you know in in closing this I would love to

45:24

hear whether I'm a mom or I'm a dad or I'm a husband struggling or a wife

45:33

like and I am looking for that wise word that gets me to try something that I

45:40

have been wanting to do like what is some sort of piece of wisdom that you could offer them through your experience

45:46

that you've had I just feel like if you have that voice like you just said that they want to do but they haven't gotten

45:53

around to it just try it because if you have that little voice in

45:58

your head like that's your self talking to you that's your higher self speaking to you whispering in your ear trying to

46:06

get you to listen but you're not so stop putting yourself last just do something

46:12

for yourself like I love that feeling of trying something new and sucking at it

46:18

like you're living then that is you living yeah that's great yeah so live

46:25

yeah live there you go that's it no what else that's wonderful well I'm going to

46:31

uh I mean that that's what a great answer that is to to butt it up and it is trying you know in life and um as we

46:37

wrap up guys I just want to remind you that uh we will have all of am's links into the show notes um make sure you go

46:44

check out I mean seriously if you're L looking for a gym that's going to help you know make you feel that you can accomplish stuff I mean um Amy's gym is

46:52

it's wonderful you know you're going to feel very welcome there I promise you it it will maybe feel intimidating at first

46:58

but understand showing up and walking through the door is the first step to changing your life um and before you

47:04

close yeah I need a handshake on the fact that you're going to try my class

47:09

okay you went on the record with cameras video yeah I I'll try it I mean I I

47:15

definitely I will not I I would be lying if I told you I don't look in there and go like I wonder if I I know I do um but

47:22

yes it's uh listen to The Voice I I will try I promise you but guys make sure that you are sharing

47:29

this episode I know that we dropped some stuff in here there was so much stuff we covered that will impact somebody around

47:35

you you at least know four or five people that need this kind of stuff so make sure you're tagging it don't just send us emails that say hey that was

47:42

really great those don't really help us in the cause they they feel wonderful but what we're really trying to do is get more earballs onto this whole thing

47:49

so we can sit there and look at this uh community that is building up around this idea of like hope and

47:55

transformation and meditation mindfulness and bringing yourself together and listen to that little voice just like Amy said because that voice is

48:01

telling you what you should be doing um and don't wait for something like what

48:07

happened to me that uh your body will tell you when you need to listen and so listen now um and again Amy thank you so

48:14

much for being here it's always a pleasure and uh I'm sure I'll see you tomorrow so see you tomorrow thank you

48:20

for having thank you yeah absolutely [Music] cool
