SPEAKER_00:

Welcome to the Ladder Roofing Mastermind, a podcast that highlights roofing success through systems. I am your host, Emily Moe, and on today's episode, we are going to discuss vision. Vision is a buzzword, if you will. There are countless people talking about it and the value that it can bring to your life, to your business, to your relationships, wherever you apply it, you're going to see positive results for the most part. I get asked by people that I associate with, colleagues, coaches that I um work with about what is my vision. And I'm going to share it with you because it's pretty historic, pretty historic, not prehistoric. And I think it's pretty amazing. I hope that yours is as well. So I'm sharing for a reason that is to get it out there so people know what we are, who we are, what we stand for, and what the Bean Countery and the Ladder Roofing Business Team is here to do in the world. Number one. Number two is to inspire you so that if you don't or haven't spent a lot of time thinking about or planning your vision for the business that you're in or your life or your relationships, like I said earlier, this might give you a little jolt that you need to think and dream big so that you can live big and give big. Okay. So the Bean Countery, which is our parent company, if you will, we provide on the outset, it looks like we are an accounting and CFO service. And we provide that service. It includes like accounting, bookkeeping, payroll, the back office stuff that businesses need. Yes, it does do that. But we marry that with a really high level of service for our clients. We don't just provide financial statements. If that is what people come to us looking for, we send them somewhere else. Not that we can't or won't provide that. We do. That's part of our service, like I said, but the real value in what we deliver is not financial statements. The real value is partnering with you and becoming your business BFF so that you can pursue your vision. And we know from experience that the way to do that is not simply looking at financial statements every month, but employing the right systems in your business that are going to help you scale, be profitable so that you're in business tomorrow, and compensate yourself and your team effectively so that you can have a larger impact on your community and ultimately provide more quality service to that community. So that's like, you know, the nutshell of what it is that we do. Now, the vision that comes into play here is we service a few different industries, but our target is the construction trades, more specifically, residential roofers. Why is that? Well, we have a very specific skill set. Job costing is very important. We have processes and systems set up that we can deliver that level of skill and expertise efficiently, effectively, in a way that is helpful to our clients. We are not a general run-of-the-mill, any any small business will take. We don't do that. We know where our strongest impact lies, and that is with the construction trades industries. The initial vision is to be so dialed in with our clients and have our processes so locked in that we have a large impact on the national industry of the residential roofer. We know in doing that, we're not only going to impact the clients that we serve, but the communities that they are servicing, which is huge. That's very important to me as a business owner and to the rest of my team that we aren't, again, just providing financial statements and advice. We are helping communities so that they have contractors locally that they can trust. And we're servicing those contractors so that they can remain in a position to be trustworthy and provide that service to people who really need it and who appreciate it. So that's like level one vision. We want to get so dialed in that we can see tangibly the impact we're having on the industry. That's really important. Beyond that, though, one thing I've known since becoming a degree accountant over 20 years ago is I saw very quickly how underserved most small businesses are by their accountant, CPA, or whoever it is that's helping them with their financial picture and outlook. I've seen it in my own family's businesses that they've had. I've seen it in clients that have come to me and have shown me the result of the services they'd paid for in the past. And it makes me really sad. One, because what is wrong with the mindset of other accountants and financial service providers that they are leaving so much value on the table. And it's become a very transactional relationship. The client will provide money, the service provider will provide a PDF of statements or a tax return or whatever that end product looks like. And that's it. There's no partnership, there's no collaboration, there's no, you know, tell me what you're trying to do. And so over time, this typical relationship just erodes further and further. There really isn't a lot of trust there of that financial service provider. And the business owner is going solo. I mean, I'm not saying all accounts have all the answers, but having someone on their team who's helping, who's giving ideas, who's talking about what they've seen work in other situations, who's cautioning against certain decisions from being made? Ultimately, that is the business owner's uh decision, and they have to own the results. But the accountants of the world, we'll just stay specific to America, are not stepping into the actual opportunity that's existing there. And frankly, how boring. Who wants to just crank out debits and credits and result in a PDF of financial statements and not have further insight into what's happening in the business or what the goal is of the business? A lot of them don't even discuss that. And I just find that shameful and sad, very, very sad for everyone. And the lack of partnering service that could exist across the board is negatively impacting our national economy. And I am an avid capitalist because I know what a free market system is supposed to be. I really appreciate the concept. And the cost is really high when you're just halfway participating. It doesn't just affect you. It's not like these accountants are just leaving money on the table for themselves. They're hurting the actual national and potentially global economy. And that is a travesty, in my estimation. So the larger vision of the Bean Countery slash the ladder roofing business team is to take these concepts and principles and systems and processes that we develop here for our clientele and showing them how to do the same in their own niche, in their industry that they serve. It's not just a practice of, oh, you do this and you click that and you go here and you add that. It's really a skill set that needs to be developed for those who haven't done it. And we intend on teaching that. It's a big goal, but imagine, just close your eyes for a second and think about what the world looks like if just 1% of the accountants in America are providing this higher level service. How many companies does that touch? How many communities will that affect? There's a huge potential for impact here. And I am here to provide it. I will lead and work and collaborate with anyone who has the same end goal, which is to make this country stronger, which is to make our communities healthier, our employers in a stronger position, which elevates anyone who might be working with them. Their customers are happier. It's a very holistic, all-encompassing outcome when people are working together and reminding themselves and having others remind them of why we're doing this. You know, I've said impact like six times already, but impact is so important. We all have so much power within us to reach it, to create it. And I'm here to be a voice to remind people that it's possible. And if we aren't pursuing it, then shame on us. Shame on us. What else? What are we doing with our time? I'm really passionate about this. If you are in the construction trades, roofing specifically, and you're thinking to yourself, I install roofs, I repair roofs, I'm there when there's a big storm and there's an insurance claim, or you might focus more on retail, whatever it is. No one is just their occupation or just their specialization. What can you do in delivering that service and product? Which, by the way, you're dealing with people who are some of them are in their most vulnerable position when something that they've invested their life savings potentially in, and so much of their labor goes towards securing and protecting this investment, they're they're in a scary place. So the level of service you provide, one, it's just a roof. No, it isn't. It's their shelter. It represents everything about the safety that they're looking for in life. So it's important. And the way you deliver that service is important. The way that homeowner feels when your ladder comes off and you've done your final inspection and they've written the final check, whatever that financial process looks like, the transaction has closed. We want them to be one relieved, happy, reassured, insert adjective, but we also want them to trust you and be happy that they made the decision. We want people to be happy in their decisions that they're making. So that is just like your level one vision. But what can you do beyond that? What does your team look like? What does your culture feel like? How is that reaching others? That's kind of the beauty of a free market society. Everyone participates in some way or another. But when you really step up and lead in that participation, the ripple effect just goes out so far. And it continues to touch others who could inspire someone else, who could show, oh, this person with whatever education and this amount of skill with the right tools and the right intentions can literally change an entire community. I find that so inspiring, it's almost overwhelming. So I just wanted to share our vision with you so that I can continue to be held accountable by the world and what it is that I'm seeking to do. I know that when we reach these milestones that we've set out to result in the vision that we have, every step matters. It's not a I'm a zero until I hit 100. At level six, it's gonna make a difference and other people will feel it. At level 23, people are gonna feel it. At level 75, people are gonna feel it. And it just continues to grow. That is something that I'm really excited about. I've been experiencing it for the last five years. And every time we get refocused and really zone in on, again, the impact we're looking for, the big vision, amazing things happened. Miraculous things have happened. And I'm just loving the journey that we are on to deliver the service. So that's it. I just wanted to uh throw that out there. If you need help with your vision, reach out to us. I don't market this business as a coaching business, but we certainly coach all of our clients in conversation. And oftentimes they coach me. It's just a very collaborative experience working with the clients that we do, and it's unique, it's fun. We focus on the things that we have the control over. And as a business owner, that's way more than we oftentimes give ourselves credit for. That's the show. That's it. I want you to really think about your vision if you haven't. If you have thought about it, but don't have it written down, write it down, summarize it in less than three paragraphs, print it out, look at it every day, put it on your phone, pull it up, put it on your lock screen, whatever it takes. Pick one person on your team to discuss this with. Even if you aren't collaborating with an outside service provider like myself or my team, but start building that culture within your own business. Um, what does it look like to have someone on your team that can bounce these ideas back and forth? And what can you do for them by sharing this? I would bet money that's it's going to motivate them in the areas that they have power to impact as well. I hope this was helpful.
