Berly:

Welcome to denim wrapped nightmares tipsy exchange Podcast where we explore the supernatural series episode by episode.

LA:

over drinks, we'll discuss the lore of gore and what we adore about the Winchesters and their adventures.

Berly:

I'm burly, and I'm a new fan of the series. I'm

LA:

LA, and I'm here along for the ride. Now let's get tipsy. Hello. Hello Burley.

Berly:

We have pal were

LA:

Yes. Finally

Berly:

odd. What else did you do last week though LA. What did I do? What did you do?

Unknown:

What did I do?

Berly:

Give me a thumbs up? Well,

LA:

you know, I just have a real affinity for injuring my hands all the time. And I was simply showering shaving. My razor fell. The Razor pops off. I pick it up to put it back on the stick. It slips and takes a chunk of my skin off my thumb.

Berly:

Were you shaving in the dark? No. Oh, this was oh, no, I

LA:

had a little I have a rechargeable light. The shower that I have is like old and doesn't even have a light in it. So I have this rechargeable light that I keep recharging and it lights up the whole shower. So no, I wasn't in the dark. That would be a good excuse. But no. So but

Berly:

still your power was out and you still shaved? Yes. Good. Good on you. Good on you. Because I did not. I did not bother shaving and I got a hotel. So like I can't even really blame it just dedicated. I just didn't pack a razor and I was like

LA:

So yeah, we're back.

Berly:

We're back. All right, last episode was the French mistake. Raphael launched an attack on Castile and all of his allies, Allah, The Godfather. And he sent a particularly frightening angelic Hitman named Virgil to take care of both Azhar as well as Sam and Dean and go retrieve a key that Virgil thought locked up all the heavenly weapons because balances are purposely led everyone to believe that to protect them and the key balances are transported them to an alternate universe, where Sam and Dean are actually stars of a TV show called supernatural. And their names aren't Sam and Dean. It's Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles. They was very confusing, and they run into Cassie L who isn't Castile, but Misha Collins, and there was a Robert singer. They're in a loop solo and all kinds of stuff. The key was it was all the roofs while Raphael and Virgil were distracted watching Sam and Dean and this alternate universe, Balthazar took the opportunity to get all of the heavenly weapons to Castile. Huge diversion just for like this little handoff to Yeah, you know,

LA:

I liked it.

Berly:

I know you did.

LA:

The next episode that we're talking about is called And Then There Were None. It is the 16th episode of season six, and it aired on March 4 2011. We started out at at a truckstop. There's a fella get in. Yes. And the mother of all that we met with previously shows up and asks for a ride. Her

Berly:

name is not Hyman. It is not her name is E Correct. I was like, Oh no, they renamed Hyman. I wanted to call her Iman all the

LA:

time. She's the fizzy. But suppose she gets in the truck with a guy and she starts kissing him. And he pushes her off in his seat. That's not what you want. She she needs help. She needs Jesus in her life. So he hands her a Jesus pamphlet. And she starts talking about how their religion stupid Jesus was just a man. He left them. And a mother would never do that. She would never leave her kids or her people whatever. I forget what what all transpired in the conversation, but she wants to tell them a secret, right? And she goes up to his ear to tell him this secret. And then it just looked like she devoured his

Berly:

ear. And she like put his whole ear in his mouth. Yeah. Or in her mouth. In his mouth. And I was like ultimate well, a little did I know.

LA:

Oh my god. It was very startling. Yeah,

Berly:

his eyes got all big zoomed in on his face. And we're like what is happening?

LA:

And then we see him at his house, staring at his wife in bed sleeping.

Berly:

I called him Wish List Bryan Cranston. You did? Yeah,

LA:

I could see it and I'm normally

Berly:

very accurate. My name.

LA:

Well, he goes over to his wife and she wakes up and just smiles that lovingly at him, and he whips out a hammer and just goes to town. on her head, we

Berly:

get our 43rd Blood splooge of the supernatural series. It was like a fountain it like a little squirt, squirt. And he got it sprayed on his face. And my note says 43 Hammertime. Oh my god.

LA:

Oh my God, that's good.

Berly:

And then we got supernatural.

LA:

And then we're at Bobby's where he's making circles on a map saying he's getting calls from all kinds of hunters about everything. Monsters, ghouls, you know what, what have you they're, they're happening everywhere. But it and then he circles this one big. He's trapped with this one big circle. Yeah. And he points to it. And he talks about how this guy beat his whole family to death. So he didn't just beat his wife. We find out his children as well.

Berly:

Yeah. Which is so sad. I'm happy. They didn't show that me too.

LA:

They go to the jail where this guy is being kept. I don't know his name. I didn't catch his name. Did you? Wish List Bryan Cranston Oh, right. Yeah. And he's there and his whole orange get up, chained to the table. And they're questioning him and he's says it's just like I told the cops I blacked out. I don't remember anything is draw. Yeah, he's very upset. He's like, I didn't mean to, you know, all i All I remember is I was trying to get that kid from the truckstop. Home. And then the next thing I know, I wake up at the cannery, right? And then he tried to call his wife she didn't answer. So he goes home to check out what's going on since she didn't answer and finds his family dead. Yeah. And that's all he remembers. So they question him about the kid from the truckstop. And he talks he tells about the girl Eve, and it's Bobby. I forgot. We got to see Bobby. looking spiffy. Yeah,

Berly:

trench coat. Yeah, the great trench coat his hair fix. He looked a little nice. I thought he had on a three piece suit at first, but then we got a better look. And I was like, oh, no, I wish they had had a best. I love

LA:

a three piece. As they're in there. The cops start running off saying that something some guys been shooting up the canary.

Berly:

Oh, you forgot an important thing. What? They looked at the footage from the gas station. Oh, I

LA:

was gonna get there next. Oh, my bad. Yeah. So Bobby says you guys say I'm gonna chase after these cops. Go see what's going on with Canary. So then the guys go and look at the footage. Right? They do that before?

Berly:

Yeah. Okay. No matter though. Sorry. The important thing is that she looked like creepy and the footage.

LA:

Yeah, her face was distorted and distorted monster or something. And like the

Berly:

static. It was really cool. How they did it. The static like followed her face as she moved around the truck. I thought that was really interesting. Yeah. And they were like, oh, and that's when Bobby was saying like, I think this is it. I think that's the mother of all and we were talking about in the skin mag Dean was saying, let's go get him. And Bobby was like, We have no idea how to fight this. We're in over our heads. So they were kind of debating that whenever the cops were all like, Oh, somebody's going postal with the canary. The starlight camera Canary.

LA:

I was out what it was called, apparently. Well, I don't know what the guys go do. But Bobby goes to the Canary and runs into Rufus who's already there, dressed impersonating an FBI agent as well trench coat and already investigating. So we find out that the guy just came into the cannery and open open fire on everybody and the cops shot him to eight times and killed him. Bobby's are not Bobby I think Rufus says like, are we going to work on this together? But next up, they're still in their nice clothes looking over the dead body. And Bobby finds or he looks in the ear and then gets a cotton thing and then this black is goo comes out of it. Rufus

Berly:

was like is that ectoplasm? That's what I thought it's gonna be. Yeah, I thought it was because it looked just like it and we haven't seen it in so long. So I'm actually not certain it looks just like it. But from what I remember. That's what it looked like. Yeah. But then Rufus smelled it and was like, Oh, that's not ectoplasm Bobby, is this something new? New Bobby? Oh, well, they

LA:

put together that both of the men that have done these things, these terrible things worked at the cannery. So there's something there. There's a connection. And so the boys meet up later that night with Bobby and Rufus at the cannery and have a little reunion shooting the shit with each other, giving each other a hard time cue as they're going through. They run into Gwen and then lo and behold, Mr. Samuels coming up behind her Dean loses his shit. And just says he's like I said, I was gonna kill him gun guns blazing, ready to shoot Samuel. But Sam Thompson, and they are they're like taking on one kid that kid that kid out of your bag out of here. And so he goes out into the hallway with him and he's like, I'm not saying you don't kill him. Just don't kill them just yet. You need to cool down. And so he leaves him in the hallway to calm himself down. They go back in and talk to Samuel. And Samuel is a real shit. Yeah, Bobby's like Oh, so this is Samuel. And Samuel says, oh, Are you the guy pretending to be their father? And then and then I think Bobby shoots back and says, Well, somebody should. I mean, you hear the fucking grandfather.

Berly:

He's got a real big ego too. Yeah, like was calling Bobby kid, which is like, I get it. You were born before him, but you've spent a lot of that time dead. So, I don't know why you think that you're so much smarter. But yeah, he's like, I know everything. I know, things you've never even heard of kid. I'm just like you.

LA:

I mean, not much

Berly:

older than him. That's why I'm saying

LA:

dick. Because he knows so much. He explains that he's from Purgatory. She was there 10,000 years ago and fuck shit up and now she's back. And somehow in the conversation it's somebody mentions how Samuel was like, just gonna just offered them up to Crowley and just sold them out.

Berly:

Which I bet you that's why Samuel knows this stuff. It's probably because Crowley told him.

LA:

And Gwen is shocked by this. She didn't know about this. And she's asking what the hell so she shoots out to the hallway to go talk with Dean to get the truth from whatever about whatever happened with Samuel. He tells her what happened and she swear she's swear she didn't know and she she looks like upset by it. And then out of nowhere Dean says, Oh, well, there's something I should probably tell you. Both has gone up and just shoots her in the chest. Yeah,

Berly:

I did not see that coming at all. I liked when I thought we were going to get to maybe she was going to get to survive this whole Campbell thing that she was going to be the last Campbell Right.

LA:

She redeemed them. But no, no. Oh, and Dean disappears. The guys come out. Sweet. Rufus is trying to do CPR to get one back, but she's not coming back. She's gone. So they go looking for Dean. Sam threatened Samuel that, you know, we're bringing him back to life. You know, if we don't, I'm gonna shoot myself think Oh, Sam finds no Rufus Feinstein. And they're pointing guns at each other. Because nobody knows what the hell's going on. Samuel comes in with his gun, then. Then Bobby. So they're all sitting there. She's like holding guns. Hmm. Yes, I was. There's too many fucking names. Remember?

Berly:

It's a standoff. Yeah, dude said that. He remembered talking in the hallway to win. And then he came to and saw this worm thing crawl out of his ear and go into event. And so they're like, check for goo. And Rufus stuck his finger in these ear and there was goo. So they're like goo positive. Yeah. So it's either in you or it was

LA:

correct. So Bobby gets the bright idea that we all just put our guns away. So till we figure this shit out. So he goes and puts all the guns in a little sack and throws it into a locker and locks it. Bobby and Rufus start making calls to their hunters to try and figure out what what to do about this new shit that they found. That's going in and out of yours. And Dean is there just given Samuel distinct guy? I wouldn't want him look at me like that. Bobby brings up something about Omaha. And Rufus is not happy that he brought it up. We don't know what happened yet. But we do find out. Samuel gets up to go to the bathroom and Dean and Sam follow him and confront him. I don't remember the conversation but Samuel goes to leave or something and Dean sees the ooze coming out of his ear, and Samuel swings to shoot at Dean. But Dean stops him. And Samuel gets away, just like Dean did. So they all go looking for him again. As they're going Sam sees a tripwire. And, like a trashcan or something like above.

Berly:

I couldn't figure out what that was. I saw that there were these aluminum foil things. Like on the side of what looked like an orange plastic trashcan. Bash, trying to figure out what was the trash can just gonna fall on their heads like I don't what was that?

LA:

I have no idea. It was weird. I also don't know who would have had the time to do that. During all of this, whatever. When

Berly:

you got a worm in your ear, it makes you real productive. Your time management skills just like really escalate.

LA:

After the booby trap, Sam some I don't remember what happened. But Sam gets locked on the other side of the door from everybody.

Berly:

I think they somehow triggered another booby trap. Okay, and so, Sam. Well, they didn't show it really, but I just assumed that must be what happened. Okay, because why else would that door slam shut so suddenly, you know, well,

LA:

he told him he's gonna go around and meet them and he's he does run into Samuel. And Samuel is poking at him. And Sam tells him numerous times to stop moving. Stop talking. Samuel continues to keep walking toward him and egging him on about all the shitty things he must have done when he was working with him that summer or whatever.

Berly:

He was basically being like, I'm gonna bust your wall down Sam. Sam's like shut the fuck up and Back up, like yes, I would love to know what I did but back up, so

LA:

Sam shoots him. Yeah. Right in the forehead. Not

Berly:

in the shoulder. No, not in the knee. Boom.

LA:

Right in the forehead. Campbells are out down so they taper so sad.

Berly:

Well, I was a little sad about when. Yeah,

LA:

they take Sam's body Samuels body and put it on a table and check his ear for that is goo, whatever. And they don't find any.

Berly:

Because they so clearly showed the black ooze coming out of his ear earlier. I thought that was weird. Yeah. Like, did it suck it suck itself back in? Was it getting ready to eject earlier and then it changed its mind and sucked itself back in?

LA:

I don't know. We didn't get that skull cracked open. We didn't. But Bobby or I think Rufus asked Bobby if he had a cranial saw in his truck. And Bobby said obviously, of course. Yeah, of course. So they go get that. But they did in the meantime, since Sam was left alone with Samuel, they they are only assuming that the thing got into SAM. So they tie his hands behind him. And they tell Dean to watch him. And Sam starts acting weird. And kind of coming toward Dean. Yeah. And it's like, you know, I've just been thinking, What would mom's say? Dean was wrote, he was real good. He's he would say and I forget exactly what he said. But it was basically like, You got to earn that title of family. Yeah. Family is not just blood, right? And you gotta do what you got to do. So that they send the boys out of the room when they get back with the saw, right? Because they said that they need to do a breather because they were about to crack. Grab his head open. They start to saw into Well, I think there was another mention of Omaha. Before they cut into him. Bobby was saying it was his fault. He should have listened to Rufus. He and Rufus lost her. So Rufus

Berly:

lost somebody somebody I'm assuming a wife. Yeah, they probably.

LA:

And Rufus cuts him off tells him just to stop. He told him not to talk about it and he will never forgive him.

Berly:

Yeah, I will still come to you if I need help burying a body but I will never forgive you. Argument

LA:

ended they start or Rufus starts to cut into Samuels forehead.

Berly:

Wait a minute. Is Omaha supposed to have happened recently?

LA:

Oh, I don't know. I got I thought it was like a while ago but that's it's odd that they were bringing up known

Berly:

that for that's what I was just thinking like, because he did come to him for help. And he helped him with getting his soul back. No questions asked. So it's odd. Like why would you be bringing it up now?

LA:

Yeah. Well, Samuel wakes up. Yes, he's getting cut into

Berly:

his forehead. That special effect was so good. It looks so real. And then the way Mitch bleh popped his eyes open. Yeah, and sat up. If they do a remake of Young Frankenstein Mitch Pileggi should do Franken get a Frankenstein's monster like just he like made that face like, oh,

LA:

man, but he popped up and started going to town on Bobby and Rufus. Yeah, thrown him around. He locks he puts up a plank of wood and the doors. Handles of lock the boys out. Sam started

Berly:

trying to kick in the door. And I was like, Oh no, he hasn't been working out as much as he was.

LA:

Well, Samuel manages to knock both Rufus and Bobby out. But he's he somehow trips and runs into some wire that's exposed. It

Berly:

was the cranium saw that Bobby That's right. Because Rufus was giving him shit like showing him the wire and being like taped places. Look, are you fucking kidding me? And Bobby was like, it still works. It's fine. And then like to LA and I was like, Yeah, I've been shocked a few times, keep them keep us stuff like that. So whenever they started electrocuting each other I was like, they'll be fun. I know. But Samuel was not fine. He like he died. Yeah. The way he got zapped though. He was like, like, mad full body. Yeah. Damn. I haven't gotten zing like that. I just get little zingers. Little zingers. Yeah, the worst one I ever got. I was trying to change the light bulb and my fan. For some reason. The glass part of the bulb came completely out. But the metal part was in. So I went got some pliers. Oh, yeah, I did not turn off the power first. Like I turned the switch. But I didn't cut the power. So I got a good little. I got a good little Zinger, then. I was fine. I like felt it into my elbow. And now I feel like I'm like that guy powder powder. When I get electrocuted, I can like see blue shock. Like, I could see it. I feel like I'm just on the verge of having superpowers. You're getting there. Almost. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. So Samuel gets right. Sorry.

LA:

Yeah. And he drops Sam grabs the cable.

Berly:

Hang on. You're skipping something real important. What was a very important plot point you had me rewind it and replay

LA:

Oh yes, the boy Is together, kicked down the doors. Yeah. Open and I liked it. Yeah.

Berly:

I liked the shot. I liked the angle that they shot that from Jared and Jensen were very in sync with their.

LA:

It's pretty hot.

Berly:

Oh, yeah. You're like, Wait, rewind it and I was just thinking like, I was like, what point did I miss? What happened? And I rewound it and hit play and was like, Okay, I didn't miss anything. And you were just like, I liked it. Yeah.

LA:

It was good. So they know now that as Bobby I think Bobby put it, that electricity tickles it. Yeah, we came out.

Berly:

We saw the worm Come out of him and like go off in his leg. So that was important.

LA:

Gross. But yeah, so they know it's electricity now. So Sam grabs the cable. Well, first, everybody checks their ears screws. Yeah, because they're like it had to have gone on to one of us like, Who is it? So they do that? Nobody comes out with black fingers with Uzi fingers.

Berly:

I do like that. They address it later that Oh, like it's learning and it's learning to better cover its tracks. Because that explained why the news was gone from Samuel because that was bothering me at first. Yeah,

LA:

yeah. So after checking the IRS, they decided that they need to shock each other with this cable. Sam goes to Rufus. And he's like, Can I not do this? I have a pacemaker. And they're like, No, bro. You're going to do it. Yeah. Better hope it's a good one. Yeah. So oh, I think it was Dean did that tonight, Sam, because

Berly:

Sam did it to Dean and then Sam did it to himself and you were like he liked it.

LA:

At first I was like, Oh, well, Sam

Berly:

was just real eager to to shock himself.

LA:

So he shocks Rufus. Rufus takes it and goes to Bobby. Bobby starts backing up.

Berly:

He's got like his hands behind his back. Jim Beaver so fucking hear.

LA:

He I think he holds up one hand to stop Rufus. Yeah,

Berly:

he was actually real shifty. He was saying like, yeah, no problem. But he was backing up. He looked real nervous. And that's when Rufus was like, Who are you? Like he figured it out? Like you're not Bobby. Yeah.

LA:

But then the other arm came out. And he stabbed Rufus right in the heart.

Berly:

And I just sat there with my arms crossed the rest of the episode because I was done. Yeah. Why?

LA:

We lost a lot in this. Yeah. Sam. So Sam kind of grabs Bobby from behind, grabs his arms, and Dean just knocks him out. Cold, cold, knock them out. knocked him out. There it is.

Berly:

I thought you were gonna say cold cocked. And then I was like, No. What's cool?

LA:

I was trying to but I don't know what that he did. So who knows? They've got Bobby tied to a chair. whatever's inside. Bobby starts talking.

Berly:

No deep voice. Yeah,

LA:

he's real creepy.

Berly:

Castiel.

LA:

Jim did a good, good a creep.

Berly:

I was trying to figure out if that was Jim Beaver alone? Or if they added some additional effects over it. Maybe I couldn't tell. So that means whether they did or didn't Good job all around. Yeah. It was impressive.

LA:

But he's creepy. And he's saying that he's, he's something new that Eve cooked up. Yeah.

Berly:

And his facial expressions, and I'm seeing you swaying around. Like, that's what I was doing. Like the way he was moving his head. Jimmy verdict good. Yeah.

LA:

And by the time and he's saying that when Eve is done with doing what she wants to do here, there's going to be more creatures than humans. They're going to be in cages. They purposely led them to the Canary because Eve has a message for them. That they're all going to die. They're all gonna die. She's pissed. She's not happy. They've had enough of his talking. So they duct tape his mouth. They were they did kind of shock him before he started talking right? That he had like the black is anatomist

Berly:

owls. It was on his moustache coming out of his mouth. So yeah, they were using that to like try and torture him into giving them more information. And that's when he was just like, No, you dumb asses. Like, I'm going to give you information. That's why I'm here.

LA:

Da they are done with his talking and his little speech and telling them the message. So duct tape his mouth, take the ears and nose to Oh, I forgot about that. And they take the wire and shock like him from the back of his neck and the news comes out and then a fat fat worm comes out to gross. And

Berly:

you were screaming Step.

LA:

Go. Next up, the boys are standing at a freshly dug grave. Bobby's Okay. Bobby survived. Yes, he survived and he comes up with a little package first. Yeah. And he tells them about Omaha and that Bobby was talking about he was just Mr. Mechanic just had his wife his wife went nuts. And then Rufus che showed up out of nowhere and saved Bobby's wife. Well,

Berly:

he didn't say Bobby's wife. He saved Bobby. Was that what it was? Bobby had already stabbed her. Oh, that's right. I forgot about that because he didn't know what was going on. So Rufus got the demon out of her body, but it was too late right? And so Bobby was saying that he would have gone to jail but that Rufus cleaned everything up from happening like Rufus saved Bobby's life.

LA:

Yeah, yes. And then taught him hat and then they went on to work together until Omaha, whatever it Whatever happened, Dean was saying that Rufus should have let it go. And that in this life, you know, there are everybody's family. Anything that's said or done, you know, it shouldn't matter. Everybody gets a clean slate. And then Sam, you think even Sam's like, well, some of us the dumps pretty bad things. And Dean says he doesn't care clean slate for everyone, their family,

Berly:

and I was happy. They reminded us that Rufus was Jewish, because at first I was very confused why he wasn't getting a hunter's funeral.

LA:

Well, after that speech, Bobby pulls out a bottle of Johnnie Walker pours a little out on the grave. And then I think he takes some Yeah, he took us away. Yeah. And then I think the boys leave him. And it was written

Berly:

by Bret Matthews and directed by Mike roll. So core, we did get a blood splooge I think that entrance was probably the goriest of the gore, except for when they were cutting into Samuel Campbell's brain, which wasn't that gory, but it was just really good special effects. Yeah, like it looked like it was really cutting into him. And then when his eyes opened, that was good. Just horror. Yeah, it wasn't so much Gore, but it was a good horror shot. I enjoyed that. And then the black ooze and the worm thing was just gross. Yeah. Did you adore anything about this episode?

LA:

Well, I mean, I was excited to see Rufus again. But that was pretty short lived. Right.

Berly:

I did adore Rufus. I liked kind of the whodunit of it all. Yeah, I did enjoy that. The mystery of who it was. Hello. We were like that worms a little slut. A little slightly sled person just bouncing around man to man, my goodness. Calm down. All right, well for the lore. In the episode, they refer to this monster as the con worm. And I'm going to explain to you why. This is from an article called WTF moments. The study eels seen in Star Trek to the Wrath of Khan, from SCI Fi's website. In 1982, he found himself stranded on Earth, Flynn was transported to the world of Tron, and Deckard discovered he too, was a replicant. But nothing that happened in this pivotal year for genre movies was as wild as a moment from the highly anticipated second Star Trek movie, The Wrath of Khan. PS I was born in 82. I didn't know I was born the same year as Wrath of Khan. Isn't that the same year the thing came out? Oh, I don't know. Let me google it. Yeah, why is it that listed on here? That's just that's the tidbit. I'm going to add kiddos 1982 is also the year that John Carpenter's The Thing was released back to Wrath of Khan, the movie which famously marked the return of Ricardo Matala ban God I hope I pronounced that right as Captain Kirk's nemesis, Khan Noonien Singh. I don't know

LA:

that this is pleasing me because, like I I have murdered some words and names lately. Anyways,

Berly:

he eventually submitted himself as one of the standout installments to the franchise. It's also one of the most frightening truck stories, thanks to cons Minnis and a terrifying squirm worthy scene involving a brain hungry your bug, better known as a SETI eel. What the fuck? Okay, before the eel crawls into Pawel check offs head to turn him into a pod person. The enterprise's navigator joins Captain Terrell on a mission to SETI alpha five, a planet they believe to be completely deserted. Of course, it doesn't take long for them to realize the land they are traversing is actually the current home of Khan, who was exiled 15 years prior, he has been plotting his revenge against Kirk in this barren wasteland, and Chekhov's a rival fits into his diabolical plan quite nicely. I'm doing like evil fingers over here for LA's entertainment, but I figured I'd let you guys know. Of course, it doesn't take long for them to realize the land up Nope. I was like wait a minute, Khan has checkoff and Terrell taken captive captive. In their bindings surrounded by henchmen, the pair of Lacan s con introduces them to the most gruesome version of a domesticated pet that we've ever seen. He said, Let me introduce you to CETI Alpha fives only remaining indigenous life form. And he's referencing with this slithering slimy, bony species, a formidable creature which was responsible for killing some of his own pals. He said, What do you think they've killed 20 of my people, including my beloved wife, and his own sort of twisted logic, it becomes clear that Ken blames Kirk not the eels for his loss, because if it weren't for the captain, he wouldn't even be on this fucking planet in the first place. Realizing He's found his ticket off this dusty hellscape we watch as Khan takes a pair of tongs and pokes it something slithering underneath a layer of sand. We gasp as this satanic looking Armadillo clings onto the tongs with its lethal looking pinchers. After the brief introduction to this thing, Khan uses a secondary pair of tongs because even in exile kitchen utensils are quite prevalent, and he plucks two eel babies from under the layers of scales on the mama eels back, placing the two tiny slugs into a Petri dish of sorts. Kahn focuses his attention back onto checkoff. interroll delivering a Bond villain esque monologue explaining what he's about to do to them. He says you see their young enter through the ears and wrap themselves around the cerebral cortex. This has the effect of rendering the victim extremely susceptible to suggestion. While this moment feels inspired by the likes of Invasion of the Body Snatchers, and even CBS is short lived comedic alien invasion series braindead. Never heard of a show which alien insects were an alien insects. What were alien insects possess their human victims by entering their organelles? Okay, this is still very much a Star Trek movie and a grim one at that. Anyway, this happened in this movie. That's why they were calling it a con worm.

Yeah, I get it.

Yeah, so I need to continue.

Thank you for clarifying.

I won't go on to describe the scene. But I will say there is something horrifying about the facial expressions for the officers. It's a very gruesome scene, as they're like, getting their brain invaded by this worm. And it's shocking cringe worthy and gross. With a whole variety of inner ear phobias going on. Like nobody wants to think about things going in there. I think I told you like one time my friend got a fly stuck in their ear and they had to drown it with hydrogen peroxide and then don't dump it out. To get it out of their ear. I'd be freaking out. Ah, visual effects have come a long way in the past 37 years. But there's something quite tactile in the terror presented here. In just moments. The steady eel burrowed its way into the annals of sci fi history. And while we've not really seen them return to the franchise, Roberto Orci and Robert Kurtzman did give the tiny creature a creative nod when they introduced the Centurion slug to the mix in 2009 retconned Star Trek reboot, leaving fans everywhere covering their ears, maybe just for a second, knowing full well that the most horrific things at any moment could crawl right in the
