Berly:

Ella, welcome to denim wrapped nightmares, Tipsy exchange Podcast where we explore the supernatural series, episode by episode,

LA:

over drinks, we'll discuss the lore the gore and what we adore about the Winchesters and their adventures.

Berly:

I'm Burleigh, and I'm a new fan of the series. I'm

LA:

LA, and I'm here along for the ride. Now let's get

Unknown:

tipsy. Hello, LA,

LA:

hey Burly.

Berly:

Our last episode My Heart Will Go On featured, Mr deep, the Balthazar himself. He changed history by going and unsinking the Titanic. But fate wasn't having it. She did not like that, so she was intervening and killing anybody who was living but shouldn't have ever been born. Sam and Dean figure it out. It was really cute and all that. But the big thing that came out at the end was when fate was all like, Oh, I know what you're doing, Castiel, you and Balthazar are collecting souls for your war machine. And Castiel tried to be like, I don't know what you're talking about. And it was like, Ooh, Something shady's going on. What are these regrettable things that castiel's up to?

LA:

We shall see

Berly:

not today. Yeah, true.

LA:

This episode is called Frontierland. It is the 18th episode of season six, and it aired on April 22 2011 starts out in Sunrise Wyoming on March 5, 1861 and we see Dean and another fella, another hot guy, in a western town and their western clothes, and they're doing a shootout. A doable, yeah? And we just hear, hear guns go off.

Berly:

We saw, we saw Dean had a badge on, and we thought, like, oh, is this? Like, great, great, great, great, great grandpa Winchester, and we're, like, two hot guys guns. Like, what's going on here? This is interesting. Then we were very confused in the next

LA:

scene, yeah, because then it switches to the Campbell compound and it tells us that it was 48 hours earlier. We were very confused. But then in parentheses underneath, it's finally popped up and 150 years later. So I was like, oh, and they are in, I guess it was Samuel's office, and they're moving his desk out of the way. And they found, found a little trap door in the

Unknown:

floor. Yeah,

LA:

it's about to say, ceiling. Okay, yeah. So they they open it and go down, and it's this lovely, well, put together little office library thing. There's a table books everywhere. There were

Berly:

old pictures all over the wall. So I was like, is that the family tree? Like, what's going on? I

LA:

bet, really well done for a little underground bunker kind of thing. It was, hey, it was Rumi, yeah.

Berly:

Big Table in the middle, yeah. They

LA:

start grabbing books. They're studying up trying to figure out what they can find to get rid of Mother Yeah. Mother Eve, get rid of Hyman Eve and Dean, they're not really getting anywhere. But Dean goes over and picks up this one book and gets this like eating grin on his face. And we both thought it was like, gonna be, like, something dirty, yeah, just the way he grin. We were like, Oh God, here we go. What

Berly:

did he find?

LA:

But it wasn't. It actually is. Was it Samuel Colt's diary journal, excuse me, diary, guys, it's his journal.

Berly:

Gotta use the right verb. Yeah. I did think it was really cute here, Sam and Dean both geeking out over this artifact. Oh, yeah, they were excited. Yeah. Sam got really excited. Was like, hand it to me, and he's like, no, like, get your own. And I thought that was really cute to see them get so excited over this book. True. I enjoyed legendary.

LA:

Yeah. Dean's kind of rifling through it, and he reads that they need a phoenix. Ashes of the Phoenix. The the ashes of the Phoenix will burn the mother. And Dean reads that on this date, the date that we saw at the beginning of the episode, the Samuel says that there was a Phoenix killed that he shoot, shot him with the cult gun. And

Berly:

then dean also gets very excited with his plan, yeah, but he came up with very quickly, by the way, this

LA:

was, that was, this was like, cute banter between Sam and Dean too, talking about how, apparently Dean's got a fetish. Well, oh no, I don't think he said that. Yeah,

Berly:

yeah. I think that's why he came up with this plan so quickly. Because at first Bobby and Sam are thinking, okay, Bobby saying, I thought Phoenix's were legend. I thought they were just myth. How are we gonna track them? How are we gonna find one? And Dean is very excited when he's like, um, we know exactly where one will be and when. And he's very giddy about Wyoming, March 5, 1861, we'll just, you know, time travel. No problem.

LA:

Blum, yeah. He's like, I got a guy. Yeah,

Berly:

they have a little banter about Star Trek That was cute, yeah, but yeah, the I got a guy, and just immediately starts trying to call him up.

LA:

Oh yeah. He's like, come on, Cass, yeah, where are you at? Come on. But Cass does not show it. A lady shows up. We find out her name is Rachel, and she does not like them. She says that they take advantage of Cass and they only call him when they need him. She's not wrong. She's not at all, you know, but she was giving them real peace of her mind when Cass decided to show up and was like, Hey, Rach, I got this. Yeah,

Berly:

you're dismissed. Yeah. She was not happy about that. She was really into her little lecture. It seemed like she had been holding that in for a while. She was ready to let them have it. She was, she was going to call them little pieces of I was like, What? What was she going to call them this angel Rachel, which I didn't, I wasn't a fan of the name Rachel.

LA:

Odd choice. They telecast what they need. And he, I think they, they go back to Bowies, and he tells them that they only have 24 hours to accomplish this that he, I can't remember why, but he said, he

Berly:

said, the further back in time you go, that's right, the harder it is for him to retrieve you. And so you can only say for a certain amount of time, or he essentially will lose track of them and not be able to come get them, right? So he said 24 hours was the longest he could give them.

LA:

So Dean went and got supplies. And by supplies, we mean he went and got Western wear. Yeah. He ran up to Scheffler, and he is excited. This

Berly:

is when Sam was like, you have a problem, like, it's a fetish, it's a

LA:

Western fetish. Yeah, they Sam begrudging us troubles, begrudgingly, yeah, God begrudgingly, wears the Western shirt. But that's about as far as he goes. He put on that hat. He did take a hat. He did take a put on that hat now, Dean is in full gear. I mean, the jeans, the cowboy boots, the pearl snap, a vest I

Berly:

love, and then Pearl snap the

LA:

what is it? What is the thing? What is the thing? He the appeal, the thing he had on? Is

Berly:

it a gaucho poncho? That's

LA:

what I thought. But he called it something else, and I didn't write it down, I don't know. Anyway, it's a poncho, yeah, and his hat, and he is ready to go.

Berly:

He's very happy with his accessories. He feels like he looks amazing. You can just tell him the way he's carrying himself. He is living the day of his life, cowboy, realness. What did he say? We're going native. He was very excited. But you know what? I my favorite cowboy outfit was the Phoenix cowboy outfit. Yeah, he looked good. I want to see Richard spayton that. Like that. I liked the gun holster, belt kind of swung down, yeah, it was hitting in all the right places. It was, it was not, it was nice. I liked the all black, the monochrome look, yep, that's kind of dirty. He's wearing it. Well, sad to see him go right, right. Yeah. He

LA:

could have stuck around. I

Unknown:

know they could have used him. Yeah.

LA:

Well anyway, cast two fingers. Both of them. We haven't seen the two fingers in a little bit, and they are back in the western town from the beginning, those

Berly:

Winchesters were happy to be fingered again. It's been a while.

LA:

I get it. Boy, where's my angel? Get over here on that note. Oh, sorry, okay, Dean is ready to go to the saloon and check out the saloon girls. He's like, that's the best place we need to go. Check the locals, check out the saloon girls. But boy, is he in for a real disappointment. Oh, bless him. The saloon is pretty empty. There's like one guy slumped over a table passed out a couple of girls, like only two girls, I think, off to the side, and nobody's at the bar. No, there's no chairs at that bar either. No

Berly:

music playing. It's kind of depressing. His cowboy fantasy got plowed down real quickly. His

LA:

Western just went boom, right back down. Real

Berly:

Yeah, real life just smacked that It went away very quickly. The joy that he was having, even after Sam had just stepped in a massive pile of He was still excited.

LA:

What did he say? What did he like authenticity? Yeah. He was excited about the

Berly:

Yeah, that went away real quick when they stepped in the salon. It

LA:

sure did so he orders a couple of drinks.

Berly:

I actually wanted to ask you about that, miss, because I know you're knowledgeable in this area. Oh, what is SaaS Barilla? What is that? I've never heard of that, that I

LA:

don't know. Oh, I didn't know what that was either. When they ordered that, I liked that Sam ordered top shelf whiskey. Oh, that's right. And then I liked that. The bartender said, only got one shot. Yeah, it was really cute. And then he thought he was real. Good, ordering that whiskey for himself and then a sasparilla for Sam. He was real proud of that, for some reason. Okay.

Berly:

Sasparilla is a soft drink originally made from the vine smilax or nada or other species, species of smylax such as smilax. Oh, why was sarsaparilla banned?

LA:

Oh, that's probably why. We don't know. Satirical

Berly:

was found to contribute to liver cancer in rats. Oh, what sassafras or sarsaparilla containing products were banned? Huh? He ordered that for sale. That's rude. Yes, Sam drank it and

LA:

enjoyed it. Yeah? Dean had a hard time getting that whiskey down. Oh, yeah. He tasted like gasoline. Yeah. So Sam was real happy with the choice. After all,

Berly:

we did skip over something important. Oh, when the guys were walking into town, they passed to the gallows.

LA:

Did it happen before they went to pu Well, anyway, outside there is a small crowd gathered, and there is a man with a noose around his neck, the hot guy in the black Yeah, and the judge is up there with him, and two other guy, I guess the sheriff and his deputy. I guess we find out later this His name is Elias Finch, and he is yeah? And he tells each one of them, looks them right in the eye and tells them they're gonna burn for this. And they drop him down. And he goes, we hear it, yeah, it wasn't a sound effect. Yeah, I didn't like that. Oh, they decide as they're they're watching the I think the sheriff and the judge come down the stairs from the gallows, and they decide that he's probably a good person to go chat and see if he knows what's up. They walk in the room, and the judge and the sheriff, they're all sitting around at their desks or whatever, and Sam tells them that they're looking for a guy.

Berly:

The judge goes, I'll bet, like eyeing them up and down. You're very clean. I was like, what?

LA:

Dean's like? Dirtier than Lou. So

Berly:

funny. And you liked that? Dean said he was us. Marshall Clint Eastwood.

LA:

Oh yeah,

Berly:

Sam was for Texas regional, Texas. I think it's crazy. Like, what that is really cute. I loved this scene. Well, these three dudes just the judgmental look on their faces. Yeah, you guys just Kong a man. Yeah, calm down, yeah.

LA:

Like, maybe don't be so judgy.

Berly:

You're offended by cleanliness.

LA:

God, what is? What

Berly:

good writ is?

LA:

What do they get from them? I don't even remember the conversation. I was so distracted, because you rewind so many times, laughing

Berly:

my off. Essentially, they were asking about Samuel Colt. We told them, Samuel Colt lived outside of town, yada yada. But if you want to know anything about him, you need to go talk to Elkins. And so they go to the saloon, because Elkins is the bartender, right? And I was very confused, because I was like, wait a minute, Elkins is the guy who had the gun back in season two, and those vampire people came in and attacked him. How was he in 1861 and then you were like, it's his ancestor. And I was like, I

LA:

didn't say, you did. No, I didn't. I

Berly:

was implied, no,

LA:

well, they're at the saloon. They're chatting with the bartender, and they ask if they if he knows of Samuel Colt. He says, Yeah, he came through here couple months back or something, and that the last he heard, he's out building a rail railroad about 20 miles out. And I think they realize that's the area for the devil's

Berly:

gate. Yeah, from season two, wasn't it? Yes,

LA:

a lady walks up to them and she's got a little bit of some stuff on her mouth, herpes, yeah, little herpes rash breaking out on one side of the lips,

Berly:

and good old, good old Darla VD,

LA:

she starts getting on Dean, try pawing at him, and she wants to take him upstairs and show him a good time.

Berly:

She liked that clean boy. She did. I mean, yeah,

LA:

because, and especially because she's stopped by the judge, the old man, Judge, yeah, and he's telling her, Hey, we got a date, and pointing upstairs, and so man, she looks back at Dean like,

Unknown:

God, damn, yeah. Like,

LA:

just ruined my fun. I mean, Dean was not interested. He was literally leaning over. Why do I do it? Like people can see me leaning back over. I can see the bar away from her. So he's saved by the judge. But as they're down there, so they go up, they're still chit chatting with Elkins, and they hear a scream. We do see Darla with the judge in bed, and. And they both look over next to them, and then the next thing we see is there's a hand on the judge, and it just starts to burn him. The

Berly:

special effects on this were really cool, yeah?

LA:

And I like, I mean, even the ashes and partial skeleton was, I mean, everything was good. It was

Berly:

really well done, yeah. I liked that a lot. He kind of burned, like, almost like, paper, yeah, like that, yeah. It was really cool. I really enjoyed that. The visual effects on that work. It was

LA:

good, yeah. So they ran upstairs, and Darla tells them that Elias Finch was here, touched and burned to the judge, and then just walked out of the door. And everybody's like, well, that's weird, because he was just hung just an hour ago, you know, and

Berly:

the sheriff was with them, and he was like, we've seen it before. Like, the rope, the rope didn't kill him. I'm like, we all heard that noise, yeah. Like, I'm pretty sure that's not what happened. Well,

LA:

then they put him in the grave. They dug a grave, and because the boys end up going and finding that he busted out of his grave. We see, I can't remember where Cass is, but Rachel shows up to confront him, and she wants to know the truth. And she says he's got a dirty little secret. Yeah, she wants to know. She's like, the he's like, I have to, I have to be Raphael. And she's telling him not this way. This isn't how we operate. This isn't how we do things. It's not right. And he's, you know, he's not having it. And so they fight. They get in a fight with their angel blades. Angel fight. Yeah, and she actually stabs Cass like, almost in the heart, just the tip. Yes, just the tip. She only got the tip in, no two fingers, and he pulled it right out. Yeah. He pulled right out. Pull

Berly:

out. Fast. Gotta be fast with it.

LA:

So they continue to fight, and he does end up stabbing Rachel

Berly:

No, pull out full Penny right in to the hilt.

LA:

Okay? And we see her angel wings on the ground. And Rachel

Berly:

was short lived in full climax, full climax. Light burst, boom, wings, wings, singed. Yeah, the way she was laying was very awkward. Yeah, we haven't seen those in a while. Yeah? You know? Yeah, you know when the last time we saw it was when, oh, Gabriel. We don't talk about that. We don't talk about that.

LA:

No, no. So on to better things. Cass leaves after he just murdered Rachel.

Berly:

We see that he's, he's leaking light, yeah. He's like, Oh, wait.

LA:

And bloody honey, bloody Yeah. And so he, we learned later, he's like, I needed somewhere safe to be so where does he go? I

Berly:

loved it to Bobby's. He runs to daddy, Bobby. I thought it was so cute. I adored that whenever Cass thought, Where can I go and be safe that he went to Bobby. And I loved it that whenever he got there and he did his little sigil on the fridge, that Bobby said, Are we running or hiding, like or fighting or what are we right?

LA:

That's good, right? Or die. Bobby's like, I don't even know. Need to know what's going on. Just tell me what to do. I

Berly:

want more of Cass and Bobby me too. It was good, really. Like,

LA:

Bobby was so good too. I'm like, Cass gets up and tries to start walking, and he just falls into Bobby's arms, and Bobby goes and puts him on the couch, tucks

Berly:

him in, and kisses his forehead. I

LA:

don't think that happened. You

Berly:

gotta go watch it again. Okay, it definitely happened. Okay, you must have been taking notes. Yeah.

LA:

So Elias goes and finds the sheriff and burns him up, kills him. But

Berly:

this is when we were like, Oh, more shadiness, because as Elias goes walking toward the sheriff, the sheriff looks at him and is like, I'm so sorry. Like, or forgive me, I don't remember what he said exactly, but he apologizes essentially. And so we were like, uh, that's weird. Why is he apologizing? What did he do?

LA:

Well, Dean is asking for him or for the sheriff. What was the bartender, Elkins. Elkins tells him, Bart or sheriff's debt. And Dean says, Come again. He walks him out front, and there's the sheriff's ashes.

Berly:

They did the good special effects on him too. Yeah. Yeah. Really cool.

LA:

Dean asks who the sheriff's gonna be now. And the bartender leads down, grabs the badge from the ashes, nicely, dusts it off, and then puts it right on. Dean. Dean's the new sheriff in town.

Berly:

Reluctantly, of course. Oh, yeah. You know, this wasn't like a dream come true or anything. No, no, not at all.

LA:

He's not cheesing it up. Then we see Samuel Colt at a desk wherever he's holed up at, and he's drinking and journaling, not writing in his diary as one does. He's journaling, yeah, two guys bust in his door, and they are demons. Yeah, turns

Berly:

out they're demons. They flash him. Yeah. Yeah. He's like, who are you? And they're like, like,

LA:

what did they want?

Berly:

They just wanted him.

LA:

No, okay, ooh, Samuel is playing it real cool, and it's just telling them to get out, leave him alone. He even tried to deny that he was who he was, yeah, but yeah, he takes him out. He shoots them both. Elias has taken out the judge, the sheriff, and now he needs to take out the deputy.

Berly:

He burned the sheriff, but he hasn't burned the deputy,

LA:

and so Dean knows this, so he goes to the guy's place. He's packing up, trying to leave town like that's gonna help. He's gonna outrun Elias. So Dean decides to put him in a cell and wait for, yeah, okay. I don't know where and when this happened in the episode, but at some point, Dean and Sam decide that Dean's gonna stay. Oh, they go to and see the busted grave, and Dean says he's gonna stay. And Samuel, nope, Sam is gonna go 20 miles out wherever they said that Samuel Colt is at and get him. Go

Berly:

get Samuel Colt and tell him you got to come shoot this Phoenix. Yeah, I would love to know if it was in the script, if it was a director's note, or if it was Jared Patel. Lucky's call that. Whenever Sam got put up on the horse and started riding away that at first he was like, holding one of his arms out to the side to, like, help him balance on the horse. I cackled at that. I thought that was such a genius little choice, yeah, to let us see that. I mean, he got the hang of it. Eventually. We did get to see him riding across, oh yeah, the horizon going pretty fast there, getting his walker legs going. But I loved seeing the little, kind of Rocky, unstable start. Yeah, it was really cute. It was, it was a really good touch.

LA:

When he gets there, Samuel is just finishing up digging some graves. He's putting his shovel down,

Berly:

and I shuffled for back then, like a really nice shovel.

LA:

Well, Sam comes in and he doesn't see I'm just gonna call him Colt. Okay, it's gonna get too confusing. Sam, Samuel, Sam too many. And so Colt comes out of nowhere and splashes him with holy water because he thinks it's another demon coming for him. Justified, yeah, yeah. But Sam tells him, No, I'm I'm not Dean. He's Sam Winchester, and he's from 2011 Samuel Colt took this like rather well in stride, because it's like anybody else will be like, okay, yeah, all right, crazy, get out.

Berly:

I think he even said something about how, when you've seen all the different things that I've seen, very little surprises you anymore true something along those lines.

LA:

So he asks for proof, and Sam pulls out his BlackBerry phone, or whatever it is, Samuel called just puts it on a shelf. Yes, like, This is mine. Now,

Berly:

that's what he said. He's like, you know, what do you've seen? What I've seen? Or a magic giant from the or a nose? Oh, yeah, a giant from the future with a magic brick isn't gonna surprise you or something like that. I loved that. It was good, which I pointed out he was almost as tall as him, so he wasn't short. And I loved this actor. He was good. He was really good. I mean, he didn't give up, just very dry delivery of everything. But it was still entertaining as all hell. I really enjoyed it. Yeah, who was he? Let me look it up real quick. Sam Hennings fun fact he played JT Brody on the OG Walker, Texas Ranger. Oh, wow. Look at this. Wow. Yeah, I haven't watched the new Walker myself. I tried to just not my thing same. I will say this too wholesome. Too wholesome and not enough karate. Okay, the walker I grew up with, there was karate man. There were kicks and, yeah,

LA:

he's too lanky,

Berly:

lots of kicks. Oh, I didn't think about that. He's doing kicks in this show. I've seen him. We've seen him kick open like two or three doors this season, he could kick some guys kick my door down. Well, okay, so back to Colt.

LA:

Yes, Sam is explaining to him that in the future there's this monster he's fighting. He needs Samuel to go back to town shoot this Phoenix so he can take the ashes back and save the day and take out Mother Eve. But Samuel Colt, I said I was going to call him Colt, and then I'm calling him Samuel. You do? You I will. I don't know what God I will. God, okay, oh, my god, very defensive. Sorry. Okay,

Berly:

I love you. Okay, well, but speaking of so serious, Samuel was very serious when he was like, I really don't give a man.

LA:

Yeah. He's like, No, I'm. Tired, yeah, and not for that life. I'm sitting here drinking myself to death

Berly:

in peace plan, yeah, Sam Sam Winchester pulls out Samuel Colt's journal from the future, and it's like, but you wrote it, and I did like that. Samuel Colt was like, You shouldn't believe everything you read. It's a knowledgeable man.

LA:

That would have been trippy to see somebody pull out your journal that you were just writing in.

Berly:

It was the only thing he kind of reacted to, like he didn't even react to the BlackBerry in the way that he reacted whenever Sam, the magical brain, whenever Sam pulled out that journal. He did kind of raise his eyebrows a little bit, but that was like, it like he didn't react any further than Yeah, he

LA:

was, he's. He didn't have any tells, really, but he was dead set that he was not going to town. Yeah, he's gonna stay right where he was. And he sure did. Yeah, he did not go back with Sam. Get out of here, giant, but I'll be keeping your magical brick. Yeah, he did. We flashback to Cass at Bobby's, and he's waking up. They don't have much time left. I think it's down to an hour now at this point, and Bobby's asking him, hey, you know you need to go pick up the kids. I thought that was cute. Yeah, it's about time for you to go pick up the kids. CASS says he can't. He's drained everything's the fight that he's been doing, and then the fight with Rachel. It's drained him. Bobby asks there. He says, You know what? What can we do? There has to be something. And Cass says, There is something, but it's really dangerous, and he doesn't really want to do it, but he needs to touch a soul, a human soul, yeah, and he'll get some juice from that.

Unknown:

Let me touch it. Touch it. Yeah. He

LA:

told Bobby, I need to touch it. I

Unknown:

need to touch it. Bobby,

LA:

I think Bobby, I mean, he's not excited, but he says, Okay, let's do it. And I said,

Berly:

look, okay, so he's murdering angels, right? But look at the character growth here, because we've seen him Angel cavity search for people this season. But this time, he was very gentle. And yeah, explain to the risks very clearly, you know, yeah, Bobby, burn up. He'd

Unknown:

explode. Yeah. He was like, he

Berly:

could explode. I don't want to hurt you, daddy. Yeah, you're my safe space. So I was like, bro, right, look at him. We don't

LA:

see it happen yet, because it flashes back to Dean in the little jail with the deputy locked up and Mr Phoenix Elias Finch shows up, and his clothes fitting him just right, yeah, in all the right places, and he's there to kill him. And Dean says, No, Mr Phoenix, Elias Finch says, yes, yeah, it's happening. And he explains, yeah, so now we finally find out what happened. And he explains to Dean, no, I am gonna kill this because my wife and I lived outside of town peacefully, never bothered anybody, and we had to come into town one day. I went in the bake for five minutes. I come out and my wife is gone. I hear her scream. She's penned by

Berly:

the deputy. This is assaulting my wife,

LA:

and so he runs to save his wife, and the guy shoots him, and then shoots his wife, and she died in his arms in the alleyway. But then these come and arrest him, put him in jail for

Berly:

him up for the murder, like mother. I immediately was like, let him finish it, yeah, let him finish. Step aside. Like, do what you got to do, Dean, but you let him finish it first. Yeah, deserved which he does get to do. I know I was really happy about it, yeah, he

LA:

kind of pulls a one shoe on Dean and, like, distracts Dean, gets that gun and shoots, shoots him through the bars and everything. Just leaves them in there.

Berly:

Phoenix, rightfully

LA:

so. I really wish we could have some more of them, right?

Berly:

I agree, and a lot of other ways too. Demon with a heart of gold. Oh, right, right. I'm following you on that. Just give me, like somebody, give me some fan art of the Phoenix. I need the belt. I need the bulge. I need the the jeans fit and right, the trench coat, the hat, a little scruff and a dirt a little bit dirty, little scruff. Yeah, shirt optional, true. We could have a version with the nice Pearl snap and a version without, yeah, right.

LA:

Do you want them in just as, like, shirtless with the

Berly:

do we need the over? Do we need the trench coat with? Maybe not get rid of the trench coat too. Maybe he's just, like, topless, just like, yeah, like, this kind of post, like, Oh no, I don't know about that. No, not that. No, okay, well, something,

LA:

give me something. Who played the I don't know. I don't know, but he tells Dean. Dean tells him he knows he's the Phoenix. Elias says, Well, if you know that, then you know you can't kill me. And Dean says, I beg to differ, and I forget what he says, but it leads Dean to just jump out the window, and the Phoenix starts going after him, shooting at him.

Berly:

Yeah, he didn't have to say anything. He had a gun

LA:

that does speak loudly, speaks volumes. Okay, Dean is in this little hiding spot with with a gun, his gun and Sam shows up, switches, gives Dean the colt, and Dean walks around the back of the building, I guess, and starts calling for Elias to come out in the middle of town because, and nobody's there. Yeah, for some reason,

Berly:

and he doesn't know he's got that magic cult gun, right? Of course, he's just

LA:

like, Sure, oh, and this is when he, like, saunters down the stairs. This

Berly:

is when I went, Okay, I like this. I like this. Fit. I like this. It's Matthew John Armstrong, okay,

LA:

he looked a little weird without the Hat. In the beginning, I

Berly:

was gonna say the real, the real round of applause goes to whoever did the costume. Yeah, fit. Well done. Well

LA:

done. Because, I mean, he walked down with such like nonchalance, because he sitting there thinking, You can't kill me, yeah,

Berly:

and I hope he kept those jeans, because they did, they good.

LA:

I don't have keep that whole outfit, honey. That

Berly:

outfit would have accidentally left set with me if I was Mr Matthew.

LA:

So they, they're standing there. They're gonna have their little shootout that's showing their faces up close, like in the Westerns, both of them little eyes over there under their little cats. Yeah, it was set in the scene. But then we switched back to Cass and Bobby. So we're left hanging. Bobby, let's Cass touch it.

Unknown:

I would too.

LA:

They shoot, they shoot, they shoot.

Berly:

We go back. We cut back. We're back in time now.

LA:

Dean is a good shot. Got him, like, right in the heart. I guess Dean didn't get shot. No, he

Berly:

seemed fine. Yeah, we see that. We see the static electricity, yeah, in the bullet hole.

LA:

A lot happens here, like the guys Sam, Sam, all of a sudden snaps to it and is saying, Hey, we got to get the ashes, man.

Berly:

Yeah, it was the cool effect with him burning up too. It was a little different from what he did to everybody else. It was a little more dramatic, a little more fire, as it should be, because he is the Phoenix. But that was pretty cool too. Yeah, and I like how the screaming didn't start until almost he was already completely in fire. It was really cool. Good death, right? You died. Good Phoenix. Good job, good job.

LA:

But as soon as Dean is running over on his knees about to scoop up ashes, Cass got his juice from Bobby. Got Bobby's juice in him.

Berly:

I liked that too. Whenever he got all juiced up with the bobby juice, he got the bobby juice all up in him. I liked how we got to see the bobby juice going up and it was gold. It wasn't but silver blue, I know, because he's got a heart of gold. It was like this gold flow that came up through him, yeah, and then I liked how he, like, came out of his eyes, kind of like Big Trouble in Little China. And it was like, I liked that. I liked it. It was like coming through his veins. You could, like, see, it was really nice.

LA:

But he had timing. Yeah, he did, because he brings the boys back right before Dean is about to scoop that into the little flask bottle thing, and

Berly:

he dropped the cold. So literally, they come back from this whole adventure completely empty handed.

LA:

They really it up. Yeah? So they're all, you know, licking their wounds, sad that they really failed, really failed this job.

Berly:

Dean was like, just send us back. Cass, yeah. And Sam said, Dude, look at him. He's frying just like, Oh, y'all don't have to, like, tell him he looks like, looks like It looks like Look at him. Dean,

LA:

there's a package at the door for Sam. Yeah,

Berly:

and this, I don't know for certain, but this seemed like it was a nod straight out of good omens, because this is the same thing that happens in good omens.

LA:

So this guy comes to the door with a package, and he tells Sam that it's been a running joke at the post office, I guess that this package has been there for years, and it had a note on it to come and bring it to this address on this day. And he just thought it was a joke, but he just thought he'd do it. See what, see what happens. He asks if Sam is Sam Winchester, and he says, Yes. And the guy's surprised, like, oh, okay, it's real. Yeah, you could

Berly:

tell the post office. Guy wanted to ask questions. Oh yeah, he he also needed a signature, but Sam was just, like, ticks the package and, like, slams the door in his face, like, that's

LA:

it. Oh, and he says that it's from Samuel Colt. So that's when Dean says. He's like, give it. Give it. Can I give it to me? He opens the box and it's he slides the top off and his broken phone is in there. This is what I

Berly:

was about to bring up. So it's been sitting in this box, right? But the phone is so I'm like, what all did Samuel Colt do to that thing while he had it, before he decided to package it up and ship it off to Sam he didn't have a case on it because I can't imagine that that happened in this box, right? It looked like it had been like, smash, yeah, I have a feeling Samuel. Cool, tried to figure out the magic break. Well, he did they,

LA:

I think, in the note he left, he said that he found the address on the phone, but he didn't find that from smashing it, oh no, from scrolling through it trying to figure it out. Yeah. So anyway, he that

Berly:

could be self enclosed episode, Samuel Colt with the Blackberry. You're right.

LA:

He so kindly gave him his broken foot back. And then in the box as well is a bottle of the Phoenix ashes. Samuel Colt saved the day, after all.

Berly:

And I like the Western music coming in, and like it was, I adored this episode. Well, I

LA:

can't remember who said it, but at the end, they said, You know what this means, we take the fight to her. Mm, hmm. They're gonna take out Mother

Berly:

Eve and I have another showdown. Yeah, this episode was written by Andrew dabb and Daniel Laughlin, and it was directed by Guy B Gore

LA:

Cass and is doing a sigil in his own blood, maybe a little bit, maybe not really gorgeous, bloody, yeah,

Berly:

no, Gore. I mean, there were the shootouts and all of that, so there was some violence. But I wouldn't say anything particularly gory, other than, yeah, that would probably be the goriest thing, right, right? Is the bloody sigil. So, yeah, not very gory. But adore. I adored the whole episode. It was, it was super cute. I wasn't expecting it to because although I do like some westerns, you know, like, I've got my tombstone stuff and all that, I I do love some westerns, but I'm also very picky about my westerns. I'm not going to sit down and just watch any old western, yeah, so I wasn't particularly excited about it whenever it started off. But man, this was a really cute episode. It was, I adored grumpy old Samuel Colt. Yeah, oh, I loved him. I loved Samuel Colt. I would love to see more Samuel Colt flashbacks or something bring him to the future, something. He was great. And I liked Elias Finch. Well, yeah, anytime there's a villain where you can kind of empathize with them a little bit, it's great. And you know, this was a demon who was just trying to mind his own business. He wasn't even trying to do, like, devious little things or whatever he's trying to live his life with his wife and his great pants. Just let him be anything else you adored.

LA:

Oh, Dean. Just probably how excited Dean was about

Berly:

all it was fun to see Dean get really excited and kind of geeky, like even just from the beginning, getting excited over finding Samuel Colt's journal to begin with, and then the fetishism of the Western and it was even fun seeing his bubble kind of get a little burst with the reality of it, which I loved, because you always hear historians talk about the romanticism of Victorian era and Western era and all that, and everybody stunk.

LA:

Okay, think about that.

Berly:

So I loved seeing that come into play. Yeah, it was, it was just all around cute. And I think this will probably be one of my favorites for this season, really, yeah, I do. I do like it. I liked it a lot. It was, really, I wasn't expecting a Western to be so light hearted, but it was just all around to joy. Yeah, so lore, we're talking about Phoenix, specifically the demon Phoenix. Oh, okay, so according to occult world.com the demon Phoenix is a fallen angel, and the 37th of 72 spirits of Solomon, Phoenix reigns as a marquee in hell with 20 legions of demons. He appears as a phoenix bird and sings sweetly in a child's voice. It is really a siren's voice, and so the magician must take precautions not to be seduced by it. Upon command, Phoenix will assume a human shape and then speak on all the sciences and deliver excellent poetry, yeah. Poetry, yeah, those pants and poetry give me he fulfills all commands as well.

Unknown:

Come knock down my door, bring back.

Berly:

Phoenix has the future. Phoenix has the futile hope that he will return to the seventh throne in 1200 years. He was formally in the angelic order of Thrones, Thrones, Thrones. Yeah, I don't know. I don't know what that is. That's not what the lore is on today. So that's, that's all you're gonna get.

LA:

To close it out, we have a quote from Dean. He's saying to Sam, because you know me, I'm a posse magnet. I mean, I love posse. And he pauses and says, make that into a t shirt.

Berly:

I bet you there is one, and I want it. Cheers. Thank you for listening to denim wrap tonight. Mares
