LA & BERLY ARE BACK!

Sam is dying, Dean is cornered, and the world has a brand-new problem: “superpowered dicks” are falling from the sky. Season 9 kicks off with “I Think I’m Gonna Like It Here,” and we follow the premiere beat by beat, starting with that eerie, hazy cold open that turns out to be Sam’s last stand happening inside his own head.

We talk through the hospital panic, Dean’s desperate prayer for help, and why the answer he gets is worse than silence. Then Ezekiel appears with an offer that sounds heroic until you hear the fine print: Sam can only be healed from the inside. That’s when we get into the real heart of the episode: consent is key!

Human Cas is on the loose, and he is a mess after quickly realizing that he can feel pain, he can feel hunger, and his magic fingering is on the fritz without his grace.

We wrap with our gore (but somehow forget to mention that horrific Hael scene), what we adored, our predictions for the season, and a quick lore dive into Ezekiel’s biblical background and why that name matters.

Welcome Back And Listener Shoutouts

Berly

Welcome to Denim Wrapped Nightmares, a tipsy exchange podcast, where we explore the supernatural series episode by episode.

LA

Over drinks, we'll discuss the lore, the gore, and what we adore about the Winchesters and their adventures.

Berly

I'm Burley, and I'm a new fan of the series.

LA

I'm LA, and I'm here along for the ride. Now let's get tipsy.

Berly

Hello, LA.

LA

Hey there, Burley.

Berly

It's our season premiere.

LA

It's been a minute.

Berly

It's been a hot minute. Several months, actually.

LA

Did you miss me?

Berly

I did. I did. I love you, Sadie, but I missed my LA.

LA

Oh, Sadie. Sadie.

Berly

If you missed our supernatural music extravaganza, highly recommend you check it out. We worked our asses off on that shit.

LA

I was not in any of the interviews. No.

Berly

She really wasn't. I was like, we would get somebody booked. We would tell them, like, okay, this is when we're available. And they'd be like, okay, I'm available on this time of this day. And we'd be like, LA. And she'd be like, I have a hair appointment. I have my I have to take which I have to take my mom to this like every single time.

LA

Which you would think a lady with no job would have all the time on her hands.

Berly

It just always fell like right when you had an interview or you had this or you had that. It was crazy. Like it was honestly very weird how much how often that happened. Spoiler, none of those interviews worked out.

LA

But um no, I will say I'm I was so impressed with you and Sadie. Like you guys did such a good job. The interviews were fantastic. The the fact that you got the people you got thank you was amazing.

Berly

So I'm gonna pat on my back.

LA

Really, yes. Both of you, yes. I was I was really, really impressed. Bummed I couldn't be in there with you, but I feel like I it's probably for the best. I feel like I would have kind of like messed it up a little. Not at all, but thrown me in the mix.

Berly

The one that I know that you were the most disappointed to miss out on was Ben Edland. So I was happy when we got him booked separately for us. Yeah.

LA

Oh my god, I love him. Could you imagine just having drinks with like him and his wife?

Berly

Like, oh my god, I can't wait. I'm gonna ask for Jenny, Jenny Klein.

LA

Yeah.

Berly

One day soon. I'm going for her. I mean, they probably have the best stories. I can't wait. I can't wait. Very excited. But let's get to it. Season nine. Before we dig in to the premiere episode, I wanted to read some of the comments that we've received on Spotify because that's right, dear listeners. We don't have any new reviews on Apple Podcasts. Ooh. I know. I think we deserve a new one.

LA

Yeah, come on, guys.

Berly

All right. Well, Spotify, here we go. On our as time goes by episode, season eight, episode 12, we have Meg Myers. She said, me casually finds this because one of them liked my comment on Facebook. Ah! Hey, hey! I love supernatural. Let's go. All caps. All caps. Thank you, Meg. Then we have Haas 5150. Good listening and love the playful side comments. Just a question. If you could be an angel, demon, or monster, which wouldn't you choose?

LA

Oh, wouldn't I choose?

Berly

I'm gonna change it up. If you could do an angel, demon, or monster, which one?

LA

Well, let's answer both.

Berly

Well, I'm gonna be with angel, archangel to be specific.

LA

Wait, that you would choose to be? To do. Oh, to do. Okay, well, let's answer their question first and then do that one.

Berly

I mean, if I was gonna be one, I feel like being a demon would be the most fun. A crossroads demon specifically? I'd be an angel. Yeah, you would. But then to do. To do. I mean, like I said, meet Archangel specifically. I have one.

LA

I have one in mind, guys. I don't have one in mind, but I feel like a demon might be fun.

Berly

Right? What about possessed Sam? Stop it right now. Especially knowing that it's actually Meg who's possessing Sam. Oh. That demon would know exactly what to do.

LA

Oh, that's true. But I I was thinking of this episode.

Berly

Oh.

LA

So but either or.

Berly

You know? Okay. Now we have Carrie Rinda who said, we need more of Burley singing. Yeah, you heard that right. You fucking heard that right. Do we? I love her voice when she's not laughing her way through it.

LA

Oh.

Berly

I'll see what we can do about that this season, Carrie.

LA

You do have some good little jingles.

Berly

That's what he said.

LA

He should be a jingler for commercial.

Berly

A jingler? A jingler. I'm gonna add that to my resume. You should. Then on the episode Sacrifice, 823, we have from Stranger Natural. Always love listening to your takes on the show. But this one was one of my favorites you've done so far. Sacrifice is one of my favorite supernatural episodes, and y'all definitely did it justice. Oh can't wait to hear your thoughts on season nine.

LA

Thank you. You guys are sweet. I like it.

Berly

I love it.

LA

I like the sweet comments.

Berly

Our listeners are the best. We don't have a lot of mean ones. Oh, okay, good. I mean, we've seen we've seen mean comments on social where it's like in our, but not in our like we've never had like a bad review. No, not a bad review, not even a bad comment on an episode. Anything bad that people have said, it's been like on Twitter where they aren't even tagging us and trying to talk to us directly, you know? They're just like ps ps, you know? Okay, okay. Next we have Selena Lu Shek. I like that name. Selena Lu Shek. She says, Oh my goodness, I'm crying again listening to you guys talk about this. I cried so much watching it the first time. I assume she's talking about Crowley. Probably Sam. Everybody's like, Sam, Sam, Sam. Crawley is who ripped my heart open with that. I just so to be love. Everybody does. She's like crying every time I rewatch it. And now crying, listening to you talk about it. This was such an amazing episode. Love listening to you guys talk about the show. Oh. We got a comment on our Ben Edland interview from Carrie. She said, There's nothing better than hearing Ben Edland geek out. And that laugh is the best. Agreed. Oh my God. I was about to say agree on everything that was just said. I'm so glad you got to interview him. That was fun. Us too. We were thrilled.

LA

We were thrilled. I got a little crush on him. He is just so cute. Oh my gosh. So adorable.

Berly

Oh, the personality, but then just the hair and his adorable face. I just, oh my gosh.

LA

And then even just when you, I mean, not that our listeners got to see it, but just the stuff in his office.

Berly

Yeah.

LA

And he looks fit too. That and like he just it just like is so him in his environment, everything around him. It's like, oh, that makes sense.

Berly

His wife is hot. Right. I mean, good for both of them. Yeah. Good for them. Season finale from Dory. We have I am new to discovering this podcast, but definitely not new to the supernatural family. I love listening to y'all and all the special guests and hearing all the behind-the-scenes stories. Thank you for listening, Dory.

LA

Yes, thank you. Thank you all.

Berly

We love getting your comments on Spotify. Please keep it up. If you happen to listen on Apple Podcasts, though, we haven't had a review in a while. Hmm. We would like one. Pretty please.

LA

We'll shout you out, maybe.

Drinks And Season Setup

Berly

Oh, we gotta say what we're drinking. What are we drinking today, LA? You you made these. Oh. Well. Tito's. I know that was.

LA

Tito's vodka and it's strawberry. Strawberry watermelon. It's a sparkling. Is it seltzer or a sparkling water?

Berly

I don't know that there's a difference, is there?

LA

Well, that may be true. Yeah.

Berly

It's just a hint, just a hint of flavor.

LA

Yeah, I need a little more.

Berly

Oh. No, you don't?

LA

I do the faces you made after I made your drink made me think maybe you needed a little more flavor.

Berly

It was all vodka on the top of the drink. It was like I took a drink and then you went, oh my God, you should probably stir that up first.

LA

Listen, I used to be a bartender and mix up drinks.

Berly

If I'm making them now, you it's your responsibility to mix. We are going to be creating some nerdy tavern drinks this season, by the way. True. I'm excited for that. Me too. But not today, because this episode is going to be a little longer than usual. Because A, we went through our comments on Spotify. And B, LA, you get to recap the entirety of season eight. Yay, we know we're so I'm so good at this.

LA

So we're strap in.

Berly

LA, where were we? Where were we when we left off last season?

Season Eight Recap In One Breath

LA

Strap in, guys. Here we go. Season eight. Picks up a year after the little Leviathan mess. And surprise, everything is still a disaster.

Berly

Like my life.

LA

I missed Dick. Me too, more than more ways than one. Dean claws his way out of purgatory with a new vampire bestie named Benny. Hey. Hey. Only to find out Sam hung up his hunter boots, met a gal, and was living his little domestic life. Dean is not happy about it. Meanwhile, Kevin. Sorry, Kevin. Sweet Kevin. Escaped Crowley on his own and has been out here doing the Lord's work, translating yet another Word of God tablet. This one, the instructions for sealing hell forever. No big deal. So the band is sort of back together. The brothers are fighting about Sam's retirement and about Dean's new vampire friendship.

Berly

Romance going on there.

LA

And Kevin is burning through Demon Lore like a PhD student the night before finals.

Berly

Which did we ever know what he was going to college for? Uh he was going to get a BS in Smarty pants. Yeah, like so many of us do. BS.

LA

Uh I'm still having nightmares about the hot dog monsters.

Berly

Those hot dogs were so gross. Oh, the vomiting and everything. Yikes.

LA

Through a series of flashbacks, we learned that Dean spent a year in purgatory just absolutely like scrapping with monsters every single day. Killing off some hot ass vampires. Oh yeah. Just living his best life there in purgatory, which I would think wouldn't be normal. But good for him. Until Benny showed up and uh showed him a portal out of purgatory.

Berly

Benny had to portal in before they portled out. It was quite a romance.

LA

Uh they found Castel, fought their way through a Leviathan gauntlet, but Cass chose to stay behind because of course he did. Sam, meanwhile, hit a dog. Not cool. Fell in love and moved in with a woman named Amelia, whose husband then turned out to be not dead, to her dismay. According to you, very much.

Berly

Oh my god! When she got that phone call, she was like my husband's alive. I don't know what to do. You would think she'd be screaming like with joy. Well, I mean, if you had Sam on your hands. Right? I would have been like wrong number, clearly.

LA

Sorry. Don't know him. Don't know about that. But just for the dog lovers like me, Sam did. I just want to clarify. He did get the dog, take him to the vet, and that's where he met her.

Berly

So she was a vet.

LA

Yeah. I mean, Kiss met not great. He hit the dog, but it brought him to her. Anyway, because nothing is ever simple, you know? It's always complicated. Castile does eventually make it out, but he's basically brainwashed by a mysterious angel named Naomi, who's running heaven like a shady corporate takeover and using Cass as her little murderous spy. Poor Alfie. I know. I'm still sad. Well, good old Kevin. Sweet Kevin. Poor bless his heart. Cracks the free the free? Cracks the three trials to seal hell. Kill a hellhound and bathe in its blood. Free an innocent soul from hell. And a welcome cameo that turns out to be Bobby. Yay! And cure a demon. They pick Crowley as their target, which honestly bold choice. Right? They went, let's get the king. Yeah. I mean, not that he hasn't like deserved it a little bit. Well that, but like also like not that he hasn't tricked them so many times before.

Berly

Like and he does keep making himself quite available to them. He does. He really does. So I mean, but still too. Right.

LA

Along the way, the brothers discover their grandfather, Henry Westchester. What? I was doing so good until now. Let me start that open.

Berly

Westchester.

LA

Westchester. Okay.

Berly

Okay.

LA

Stop laughing.

Berly

All right.

LA

Now, along the way, the brothers discover their grandfather, Henry Winchester. They get introduced to the terrifying Knight of Hell Abaddon.

Berly

I'm so scared of she was beautiful. Oh, she was she really was. Right? Like I don't swing that way, but if like gun to my head, okay. Right? That's skin. I mean, if you're forcing me to take it. I mean, her skin was gorgeous. Beautiful, beautiful. Just her features and everything. Yeah. Hair, all of it. Loved it.

LA

And they found the Men of Letters bunker, which becomes their new home base, which I fucking love.

Berly

It's so cute. I Googled uh a blueprint, like of what the whole thing would be if it was real. Really?

LA

Yeah, I did. I I think as I said last season, or no, oh yeah, last season, obviously.

Berly

Yeah, we met it last season. We met that place.

LA

We met that beautiful place.

Berly

Met that beautiful place.

LA

And I remember thinking, like, oh, I want this the rest of the time. Like, this is home base. I want it to be home base. And God knows they're probably gonna blow it up or something's gonna happen. But I really wish it would stay the rest of the way. I don't know. You know, I haven't watched this. So fingers crossed. Um, also, there's Metatron.

Berly

Oh, I thought was a good guy at first.

LA

Same.

Berly

Right?

Season Nine Dream And Hospital Reveal

LA

This little unassuming guy. The scribe of God himself who pulls Castie L aside with what sounds like a great plan to seal heaven. Spoiler, it's not a great plan. He steals Cass's grace, turns him human, and sends every single angel in heaven crashing down to earth. The finale is an emotional wreckage from which we're still recovering. Right? Sam and Dean have a breakdown and finally talk through years of baggage, which we call gut trauma. Crowley starts showing actual human emotions mid-trial, which is deeply unsettling, but also heart-wrenching. Abaddon shows back up, Naomi gets got, and then the sky just opens. Angels falling everywhere. The end.

Berly

Good job. I think I'm gonna like it here, is the season premiere of season nine. And it originally aired on October 8th, 2013. The episode opens up with Sam and Dean driving along in the Impala. And we noticed there was something going on with the book. You did. Oh, was it just me? Oh no. Oh it was kind of hazy. I thought it was my glasses at first, to be honest. Well, no, I will say I took my glasses off and cleaned them. Did you know that? And then I put them back on, and that's when I started going, wait a minute, what?

LA

I will say, like when it started, I I I was thinking, wait a minute, what? Why is Sam?

Berly

Because we were like, Sam was dying. Yeah. He was like convulsing, couldn't walk, and now we're just in the Impala being like, oh, angels were falling from the sky.

LA

Oh, what was that about? But you totally called it on the little haziness, knowing it was some sort of dream or something.

Berly

Yeah, I was like, it's a dream, or this is it's a flashback, or a flash forward, I guess is what we're looking at. Something's going on here. So they're talking back and forth, and then finally Dean reveals himself to be like an illusion. This is all in your brain, Sam. You're actually in the hospital. Yeah, I'm I'm the part of you that wants to fight to live.

LA

Goes through this whole episode, really.

Berly

Mm-hmm. Like in his brain, Sam cast his characters correctly, in my opinion. He did. You know? Except for I don't think Bobby would have been like, oh my god, you should just die.

LA

We'll get there. I'll say my opinions then.

Berly

I don't wanna I'm jumping ahead. Per us.

LA

But anyway, it turns out it's hard not to.

Berly

It really is. But it turns out Sam's in the hospital. Dean got Sam there. He's Mr. Daughtry. I was just like, what? He missed what? Dean is Mr. Daughtry. That's what the doctor called him. Oh, the hot doctor with the puffy cheeks was like, Mr. Daughtry, calm down.

LA

Okay, you're right. You know what? I did hear him say something, but I I didn't catch what the name was, and I was just like, oh, that's one of the great things.

Berly

And then I was like, oh my god, I know that's a band, Daughtry. And then I was like trying to think, what are the songs from that band? That's a band. Isn't it? I don't know. Hang on, we gotta Google it.

LA

Okay, good, because I'm gonna make some noise here.

Berly

Shift myself. Okay.

LA

You're so hey, I've been doing good while we're talking.

Berly

Daughtery, rock band, songs, home. It's not over. Over you, separate ways, life after you. What about now? These sound kind of similar to the show. Feels like tonight. It is a band. It's a band. So they were like, Mr. Band, he is dying, and there's nothing we can do about it. The doctor was like, it's in God's hand. And Dean was like, Oh, fuck you. He did not like that. Not one bit.

LA

Which I'm not a doctor, but most of the time when I think somebody's on life support, they're intubated. Not incubated. Incubated. As you but hey, again, I'm not a doctor, but he's Sam Winchester. He just had the little oxygen tubes in his nosy. I don't think I saw any machines hooked up to him, but the machines are keeping him alive.

Berly

Mm-hmm. What a wish and a hope. Oxygen. And they did say his oxy his brain was getting deprived of oxygen.

LA

So strange he was wearing.

Berly

They were like, organs damage, death, God. And Dean was like, fuck. I don't think so. I'm gonna go to the chapel and I'm gonna pray. So Dean goes to the chapel and he's like, Oh my god, Cass, I need your buddy. Sam's hurting. It's really bad. And he's saying all this out loud. And then he pauses and he looks around to see if Cass is there. And Cass didn't show up. But guess who is there, guys? A chapel full of people. Yeah, awkward. Awkward. Good on them for not so much as turning around to look and see who this man is speaking out loud to a person. Respect. So then Dean switches his tune. He's like, all right, Cass isn't available to come help me.

LA

I will say, as we were watching it, we we had to rewind a couple times for certain reasons. And you totally called it. You were like, wait a minute. He just switched.

Berly

His face! Like he switched his face and everything. Like you could see it. He totally turned. Like.

LA

Well, when you rewound it, and and after you said that, I was like, holy shit. Like, yeah, he did. Yeah.

Berly

You could see his whole demeanor. Everything about him. Yeah. The tone. But like I didn't even, I wasn't even listening because you and I were talking about something. I just happened to be looking at the TV and I saw just the switch and everything physically that Jensen Accles did with his character from his plea to cast versus his plea to anybody who's gonna come help. Like it was good. Right. Yeah, 100%. And I I was like, that's when I was like, oh my God, hang on. Something just happened here. Let me rewind. But yeah, we we didn't know what he was saying because we weren't paying attention. But we rewound it and listened to like the pleading, puppy dog eyes, sincere, oh cows, please come help me. And then the switch into all right, you motherfuckers, I need help. And I don't care who it is that comes and helps me at this point. If you've got your ears on, this is Dean Winchester, and I need a favor and I'll pay it back. And you know that that doesn't mean nothing. So fucking come help me. And then it showed all the people hearing, and I was like, uh oh, because like at first I was thinking, like, oh, everybody's gonna want to come help. But you could see from each of the actors who were playing the angels, like they also switched from doing whatever they were doing to suddenly seeming angry. And I was like, uh-oh, that's not good. And I remember looking at you and be like, do they think he did it? Do you think that they think that he's who threw them out of heaven? What the fuck? But it turns out they all blame Castell for some reason, and they just know that Dean and Cass are ride and die. So they're like, oh my god, not ride and die. Whoops. Ride or die. So they thought, oh, like Dean will know where Cass is. Yeah.

LA

Which I mean, yeah.

Berly

Well, I mean, one would think. They weren't wrong per se. In the meantime, in Sam's head, where this conversation between Sam and Dean have been happening, going back and forth about, oh my god, Sammy, you're dying. You have to fight, blah, blah, blah. Bobby has popped up in the back seat and has been like, Oh my god, maybe you don't need to die. Maybe you should just what did he say? Something like when when it's suck as it may, or something like that. Oh my god, I love that. I was like, I'm gonna use that at some point in the future. Like, suck as it may, you still have to make a decision. But Bobby is there in Sam's subconscious to represent the side of him of maybe we don't need to fight anymore. Maybe it's okay if we just let go and go ahead and die.

LA

It's time, you know. We've sacrificed a lot. Why not? Which I almost I would like to de dive deeper into that just psychology-wise, why Bobby was the one being that way, and then Dean. Well, we know what Dean striving for him to fight. Um, but I thought it was a little odd. I mean, don't get me wrong, I was happy to see Bobby, but right. That you we both clapped. We were very happy to see Bobby. But a little odd for him to be like, yeah, give up the fight. And in Sam's mind.

Dean Summons Angels And Meets Ezekiel

Berly

The only reason why I think it was Bobby, to be quite frank, is because Bobby is the last person who Sam knows that died. And whenever they res whenever Sam specifically rescued Bobby from hell, Bobby was okay with letting go and going to heaven at that point. He wasn't trying to cling on anymore. He was okay with letting it go and going up to heaven. So that's why I think it was. Look at you and your psychology. Psychology. I don't think that's my psychology. I just remember that that's the last time we saw Bobby. Bobby? Bobby. No, come on. It's psychology.

LA

That's my purse.

Berly

Bobby from King of the Hell. Oh my god. You just went way off King of the Hell. Bobby. Bobby. That's Bobbe. That was the last time we saw him. He was like, Yeah, I'm gonna go to heaven.

LA

True. Yeah, that makes sense. Okay.

Berly

He was saying, like, you yeah, whenever they like burnt the flask and everything, he was like, It's my time. Like, I shouldn't I need to go.

LA

Yeah, so he's like, Sam, it's your time.

Berly

Yeah, he accepted his death the last time Sam saw him. That's what was going on with Bobbe. That makes sense now. I see. I just need to know you.

LA

With that being said, though, learned psychology.

Berly

But with Bobby being alive and on the planet, I don't think Bobby would be telling Sam, like, oh yeah, you should just fucking die. You know? So I I see why you were kind of like, wait a minute, why is Bobby getting assigned this?

LA

I think it's I I was very surface level with that, thinking like, Bobby would never.

Berly

But you're right. I'm with you. Okay. So Sam is fighting with Dean and Bobby about this, whether he should fight to stay alive or just accept that it's his time. And then Bobby decides, like, okay, fuck this. You and I are gonna go have a little tete and like sneaks Sam away to a forest.

LA

I will say I liked how the transition was. Bobby was in the back seat. Oh, and then he got him first. Yeah. And then when Sam kind of was like, Well, wait a minute. What if he's right? And like then Bobby's in the front seat in between them, awkwardly.

Berly

The Dean character was like, Wait a minute, like I'm I'm probably the one that's right. That's why you have me up here in the front seat in the driver's seat and him in the back. And then they cut, and then Bobby's like, peace, Dean. And then they're in these beautiful woods. It was gorgeous. I couldn't figure out what that cabin was. I was like, is this cabin supposed to mean something? Because it wasn't Rufus's cabin where they had been hiding out.

LA

I think, I think Bobby said something about how he made it for I I could be wrong, but I want to say he said something about like everything's in there that you need.

Berly

Right. So I assumed it was going to be like their old family cabin. Like that was gonna have some sort of emotional relevance to Sam.

LA

Yeah.

Berly

And if that was it was never explicitly stated. And if it was supposed to be implied that it was that, I I was waiting for it to be explicitly stated that oh, this was our old family cabin or something like that. And it never got said.

LA

Well, I will say when he first walked in, I was almost about to be like, oh, it's Bobby's place.

Berly

Same, same. And it was cute.

LA

So maybe what if it was very cute in there? But hold on, I just talked right over you. No, you go ahead. No, I was gonna say say what you said and then I'll say.

Berly

I was just gonna say it was cute in there. Oh.

LA

It was cute, but I was I was thinking, what if it's just like filled with little bits of his memories of everything, you know? That was never explicitly said either. I know, but I'm just saying the fact that we both thought it looked similar to Bobby's kitchen when he first walked in. Right. Maybe it's just like bits and pieces that he filled it with. I can follow that.

Berly

Yeah. Well, anyway, back at the hospital, a grief counselor comes in to talk to Dean, and he is not having it. Good luck, lady. Get out of here, lady. That's what Dean said. And grievan's shit. Get the fuck out of here, lady. He said there's no inevitable. Mm-mm. Them them's fighting words to me. Actually, when she first walked in, he was like, Oh my god, are you an angel? We didn't do it. And she was like, What? No. I'm here to help you grieve. And that's when he said, Nope. Get out of here, lady. And then he said, You know what? She said something about like, oh, I guess you're just gonna be waiting on them angels that you were talking about earlier. And Dean was like, Well, maybe not, because I have the king of hell in my trunk. And I went, What? What? Which is such a good line and such a lead up to like a kind of letdown. Oh my god, the way he said it was fantastic. And it was, it was kind of a letdown. Honestly, I thought we were gonna get Crowley in the trunk. Would you want to get would you let Crowley on your trunk, LA? Yeah. Uh oh. Kiss to seal the deal first, though. Oh, yeah. Because we're ladies. But yeah, he said the line, and I was like, what did he just say? And LA repeated it to me. I was like, no way. And I rewound it, and sure enough, he was just like, okay, well, maybe not the angels, but I've got the king L in my trunk.

LA

I'm like, oh my god.

Berly

Oh my God. So Dean goes outside to the Impala. He bangs on the door and he's like, hey, are you alive in there? You know, one knock for yes, two knocks for no. And he nothing happens. And he was like, okay, don't pout. Like, don't be a fucking little powder. Play along here. And we get the one knock back. And then right whenever he's about to unlock the trunk, all of a sudden, business, businessman, angel, who we saw abandon his family earlier in the episode. That prayer came through and he just got up and walked away. The wife was like, Where are you going? He said, Nothing. He shows up, slams Dean up against the trunk with his angel blade, and it's just like, where the fuck is Castillo? Like, I know that you fuckers are behind. Why we got tossed from heaven. Where the fuck is he? He's all aggressive, like, and then Hottie McToddy, who we saw get off the bus earlier, right? Oh my. I'm gonna look him up. Right? Who is hang on, we gotta Google him real quick. What do you say? Ezekiel? Yeah. Oh, T-A-H-M-O-H. Tamo? Hang on. Tamo pinniquet. Ooh. What is this picture? He's got beads everywhere. He's Canadian. You said you were trying to figure that there's an accent coming in and out. Yeah, so I at first I was like, hold on.

LA

He's 50. Hold on. Well, he's 50 now.

Berly

I like it.

LA

I yeah, when he first showed up, I swear there was an accent. And I was I was thinking, oh, he's like British, but maybe been here for a while, so it's a little lag. Um, but yeah, it just seemed to be going in and out, and I I don't know. He's hot.

Berly

It ended up going away after the is he done for though, or are we gonna get more of him? I don't know. I don't know either.

LA

I was wondering that too. I don't mind seeing him again.

Berly

He's real hot.

LA

Mm-hmm.

Berly

Anyway, he comes in and is like, oh my god, brother, don't do that. Get off of him. Why are you trying to fight? Bro, have you seen him? He asked for that face. And then he's like, wait a minute, or look at me. You're the one out of your league here, Mr. Businessman. And Mr. Businessman was like, gr, I'm mad. And so he like pushed Ezekiel up against the van and the van window shattered, and that made Ezekiel's lip bleed. Oh, I'm hurt. But then Dean picked up an angel blade and took care of businessman. Get out of here, businessman. I don't care that you had a family. I'll send my send my condolences later. I'll send them some flowers. We're at a hospital. We'll explain that body later. Fuck that. Kicked it aside. He just like kicked it down the down the ramp of the parking garage. We'll worry about that later. Fuck this. Let me talk to this hot guy. And then Ezekiel was like, oh, oh. He was like this. Oh, oh. Just opening his shirt.

LA

Opening his shirt for his little cleavage.

Berly

Oh, I didn't mean that for you.

LA

I'm so sorry.

Berly

You're so mean.

LA

Oh my god. If anybody has little cleavage here, it's me. No, you're fabulous.

Castiel Human And Hael Goes Rogue

Berly

But he was like, I'm weak, but any any strength I have left is yours, Dean. I'm here to help. That's what I want. Take me to your brother. Your helpless, defensive brother. And I'd say that too. In his bed. And Dean was like, okay, I will. I will take you right to my brother. Mr. Consent. What consent? Let's go. You look good. Let's go. You look real hot. Let's go, buddy. Oh, by the way, I've totally skated over something. In the meantime, poor Castell got spit out of heaven straight into like some bushes and trees, wandered out into a street, almost got hit by a car. The poor man was just like, Oh my God, you're gorgeous. Can I help you? And Castle's like, No, I don't drink water. Get out of here. And the man was like, Listen, you need help. Like, let me at least give you a lift. Cass finally went, okay, fine. I liked what he was like, I could fly.

LA

I would normally fly, but I don't have wings.

Berly

Oh, my wings. Then the guy drops him off at a gas station and was like, here you go, kid. Here's all the cash I have. Buy yourself a sandwich. Make yourself a phone call. Here you go. And Cass was like, I don't need it. I don't need your money. And he was like, You're gonna figure out something to do with it. Just here, take this money, go do what you need to do. And Cass finally was like, Okay, fine. So he took the money.

LA

Which, what a good man.

Berly

What a good man.

LA

Because how many people these days who just randomly pick somebody up? But if he didn't look like that, would he have? Okay, well, don't say that. I mean, but I thought it was very sweet because yeah, nowadays hitchhikers, that's like taking a big risk. Big risk. And this guy was a solid, good stand-up person.

Berly

He was, but the next part was my favorite. Oh, okay. So Cass goes walking up to this motorcycle dude. Like he's fully geared out, like at the leather vest and the bandana on. Goes up to him and he's just like, hang up the phone. I need to make a phone call. It's an emergency. So the dude turns around and is like, hey buddy. Like, what the fuck? And then Cass goes, I don't want to have to hurt you. So the guy is like, hang on, honey. He likes, hang on, honey, on the phone. And he was like, no, like, go ahead. Hurt me. Do it. And Cass took his two fingers, two fingers, and tapped them to the dude's forehead. As you said, he fingered him. He fingered him and nothing happened. The guy, of course, is just like looking at Cass's two fingers on his forehead, like, what the fuck? And so Cass is just like, oh, my fingering you did nothing. Let me let me step it up a notch. So he takes his full palm and slaps that up against the dude's forehead. Palms him. Completely palms his forehead. And again, nothing happens. And so the dude is just like, get the fuck away from me, or I'm gonna literally stab you. And then Cass is just like, oh shit.

LA

No, I liked he was like, he said, I'm gonna finish this phone call.

Berly

And then I'm gonna stab you. And then Cass is remembering, like, oh fuck, my hand is still scraped from when I fell in that gravel. Stabbing probably isn't gonna feel very good. Let me let me just turn around and walk away from this phone call now. And by the way, speaking of the gravel feel, did you notice how he kind of smiled whenever he was like, it hurts? No, I thought that was cute. Like he falls in the gravel and looks at his hand, it's all bloody, and he's like, Oh, pain. No. And I'm just like, oh my god, baby. It's a BDSM waiting to happen. He is just like begging for it. What uh what is that? A sadist? He needs a spanking. That's what he needs.

LA

Is it sadist that likes the pain? Yeah. Or a mask. No. Masochist.

Berly

Shows how much we know. Yeah.

LA

No, I think masochists like the pain.

Berly

I get a paper cutist out of commission for a week.

LA

Sadists are the ones that like to inflict pain.

Berly

Okay, so he's a masochist. Yeah. Yeah, he wants to be the one bent over, not the one.

LA

Yeah. Yeah. Tell me if I'm wrong. I could be switching those up. I don't know.

Berly

Yeah, y'all let us know in a review on Apple Podcasts. Don't judge me for knowing these things.

LA

Or maybe not knowing them.

Berly

We don't know what we're talking about. But hey, El. Hey, Elle. Hey. She comes running up and is like, oh my God, I know you. And he's like, no, I don't think you do. And she's like, yeah, I fucking do, Castell. It was hail. Hey, El.

LA

Hey, hey, El. That's how it's spelled.

Berly

I know. So let's go with it. Okay. And she is just like, oh my God, you're Castell. Help me. I don't know what to do. Like, we're all fucking scared. And he's like, Yeah, I know. I have lost my grace. I'm practically human, but I can still hear angel radio because of course I can. And everybody's scared. And she's like, Yeah, like they're either trying to find a vessel still or just don't have any direction. They don't know what to do. There was law and order in heaven, and we don't have any of that down here. And he's just like, You don't fucking need it. Like you're gonna be able to find something better down here. Like, if you could do anything just because you want to, what would you do? And she was like, Well, last time I was here, I made the Grand Canyon. It'd be really cool to go see that. I like how she said, I built something last time I was here.

LA

Yeah, he's like, Oh, okay. She's like, Yeah, the Grand Canyon.

Berly

Yeah, oh, no big deal. No big deal. But I loved how she was like, I would really like to see it again. Like, no shit, bitch. You should get to see that again. Lots of us don't want to see it. Right? Fucking people, like that's on bucket list items. And you made it? Yeah, girl, go see that. And Cass was like, You totally should go see that. I will take you to go see that. Let's go. But then Dean calls and is like, Hey, bro, I need your help. Like, there's shit's going down. Sam's dying. Yeah. No fucking joke. And so Cass was like, Oh my god, I gotta go help them. So you're on your own, girl. She said, I don't fucking think so, and picked up a board and whacked him upside the ups upside the head. She said, Oops, upside the head. Oops, upside the head. I don't think she said oops. She did not. She threw him in the car and said, You're mine. And it's like, I get it, Hael. But also, no, girl, no. Again, this episode is a lesson in consent. People just ignoring it left and right. Not okay, girl. But he got her back. He figured out she does not know how. I mean, like she learned how to drive really quickly, but she did not read the safety guide. True. He saw she didn't have a seatbelt on, and she was all like, We're gonna become one, you and me. This vessel, and then she was like, Look at my clavicle. This shit is falling apart. I mean, it was woo.

LA

What was it?

Hospital Siege And Sam’s Secret Fix

Berly

It was like bruising almost, yeah, something weird. It was just it looked like bruising. She's like, This is not a good vessel. Your vessel is strong, it could handle us both. I want us to join as one. Mmm, mmm. And Cass was like, uh, no. I'm a masochist, but not like that. And he's already got somebody for himself. Deep. I think LA is becoming more and more of a Destial shipper every day. A little bit. We will hold it against you. But Hael might, because she wants to be one with Cass. And he said, I don't think so. So he buckled in his seatbelt and grabbed the wheel and swerved it over into a concrete barricade. He said, That's it for you, bitch. Well, back at the hospital, Ezekiel is all like, Your brother done fucked up. Like, I can't heal him out here. I'm gonna have to heal him from the inside. And Dean says, Oh my god. But he would never agree to that. Like he would never want to be possessed, ever. And Ezekiel was like, he'd rather die. And Dean was like, Yeah. And then the hospital room starts shaking. And Ezekiel's like, Oh, that open prayer that you put out, not a good idea, my dude. People are coming and they're mad at you. Somebody's looking for a vessel. They wanted vessels, they're really pissed. You were supposed to be Michael's vessel. So, like, you're gonna be able to hold any of these motherfuckers. Number one. Number two, they all think that you and your bro cass are the reason why we got kicked out of heaven. Like, this is just not a good thing. And Dean pulled out like a magic marker from the whiteboard that was in the room. Yeah. And started putting sigils on all of the walls. Well, of course, poor Ezekiel is like, this is a lot. I think I can handle it, but this is a lot. I'm gonna be okay. And Dean was like, Good, don't open this door for anybody but me. And he walked out. And then he was like, they were like, we gotta move your brother. He's like, if we move my brother, he dies. But then he goes and pulls the fire alarm and starts screaming at everybody else in the hotel, or the hospital, not the hotel. Get out.

LA

On I will say, on the way to pull the fire alarm, every single piece of glass busted in the whole thing.

Berly

The windows shattering. Well, they didn't all get out. You know, he tried. I mean, it's a whole hospital. A lot of those people aren't in a position to evacuate. Yeah. Just like Sam, you know? So there's some angels up in this bitch now. Mr. Tractor Angel got up in there. And Miss Grief counselor. It took him a little bit. And then, oh my god, that part was so funny. Because Miss Grief's counselor is there. Just like, oh my god. And Dean's like, get behind me, I'll protect you. And then she was like, Oh, I don't need protection, but she said, Oh, you bitch. You bitch. And like grabbed Dean like by the neck and like lifted him up off the ground. Oh yeah. Oh. Her and Tractor Man went to town on Dean, beat the shit out of him. Yeah. Then they go to Sammy's door and they're like, we're gonna get in there one way or another. Because again, this Winchesters they have strong vessels. They're strong. And Sam's just sitting in there practically empty. Oh. Just waiting. Waiting. Waiting to be possessed. Waiting for it. They need that consent though. Because these are angels. True. That don't stop them from beating the shit out of Dean, though. And they're like, where's Cass to yell? Where the fuck is he? We know that he had something to do with this. Which y'all are mad at the wrong person. Metatron did this, not Cass. He was a victim. Mm-hmm. Poor little behavior. Taking all the heat. Oh. So Dean very smartly waits until they bleed him or beat him well enough that he's got enough blood to draw that little angel banishing symbol that he knows. Which is very sly. It was very sly. He like let them beat him while he's like leaned up against the wall, drawing that shit on the floor. And then he like leans over and goes, Hey, so if heaven is closed, what happens whenever I do this? And he like slams his hand on it. What was the line that he said that I was like, Oh, I didn't like that. Oh, he was like, You hit like an angel. Oh, yeah. And I was like, I don't, I didn't like that line. Yeah. I mean, you look pretty fucking right up, man. I didn't care for that line. I was like, that wasn't funny. The best you can taunt them before you send them all. Come on. So he gets rid of these angels though. And that was that was clever that he waited until they beat him enough to give him enough uh ink, so to speak. I did not see that coming. Me neither. Me neither. But it was very cool whenever he hit it and they disappeared. And they had pulled out a fucking axe. They were ready to bang down. It was the fire, the fire alarm axe or whatever they have. They were ready to tear up that room to get in there. So Dean finally goes in there, and Ezekiel is just like, Oh my god, this is a lost cause. Like worse than I thought. Yeah. These these sigils have depleted me. I am too weak. I am not able to save him from the outside. Like I thought maybe I could do it, but like, no, I need to get up in there. I mean, there's a lot of inside talk in.

LA

This episode.

Berly

I mean, there has been. There's been a lot of inside inside people. Yeah. Ezekiel tells him, like, if I'm gonna help, like that's just that's the only thing that's gonna work here. And he said, like, it's gonna be mutually beneficial. Like, I'll heal myself while I'm healing him. He doesn't decide him in him. He doesn't even need to know that I'm there. It'll be fine. And then Dean's like, he'll never say yes to you. And Ezekiel's like, Yeah, but he'll say yes to you. In the meantime, Sam has gone into Bobby's little cabin. Under their little jaunt through the woods, talking about, I mean, is it worth fighting? Right.

LA

Like, do you really need to?

Berly

And Dean did pop back up and like stab Bobby and get rid of fake Bobby to be like, no, you have to fight. And Sam was like, No, I'm going in the cabin. And he was up in there. Oh, that little d was up in there. Julian Richings looking fan fucking tastic with his cane at the fireplace. Did he have his cane? He had his cane. I didn't see it. He had his cane. And he's telling Sam, oh girl, when I heard it was you, I knew I had to come myself. Make a personal appearance. Yes. Because you stand out. Like you've done some shit. You've lived a life, Sam Winchester. So yeah.

LA

Didn't he say it was like an honor to come like come for come for him?

Berly

It's an honor to come for you, Sam. Come on you, Sam. Oh. And Sam is just like, oh my God. Thanks. I appreciate it. It's really faded into feeding into that ego. Well then Dean is there and it's just like, no, like, I don't want you to give up. So Sam was just like, okay, how? How? And then Dean goes, is that a yes? And Sam said, yes. And then Dean reaches over and like touches Sam. And as he does that, Dean turns into Ezekiel. And you see Sam like realize, like, wait a minute, what? Like, see that it turns from Dean to somebody else, but it's too late. He said yes. And I was like, oh, that's not okay. Yeah, that's not consent to let him inside him. That's shady. That's shady that they did it that way. But oh, we wake up, we're in the Impala. The hazy stuff is not there now. This is happening. And it's like, Oh, yes. Okay. Like Sam wakes up and is like, hey, and Dean's like, oh my God, are you okay? And Sam's like, yeah, like what's been going on? I feel like I've been asleep for like a week. And Dean's like, more like a day. You know, you crashed out. Yeah, the angels fell, like all this other stuff. And Dean's not gonna tell him about Ezekiel. Like he made that executive decision that, like, we don't tell him. Until you can get him healed enough that you can leave, we're just not gonna tell him. Because Ezekiel tells Dean, like, I'm weak enough that if Sam says I don't want you in me, like he could eject me at any time. And then he'd die again. So they're just like, okay, this is gonna be our little secret. I'm like, what the fuck? That is crazy.

LA

It's not great.

Berly

My god. Not good. And we never got to see Crowley in the trunk. Right. Yeah. I was pretty bummed about that.

LA

I was like, I was like, oh shit, Crowley's gonna make things happen. Where's our baby? Yeah, he didn't pop out. He's a powder, apparently.

Berly

Apparently. This was written by showrunner Jeremy Carver and directed by John F. Showater. Alright, so gore. There wasn't other than Dean getting his ass beat and Castillo's like bloody interactions, there wasn't a lot of gore.

LA

I will say, I mean, I feel like Dean's been beaten up a couple times, quite a bit throughout this show. But this must have been one of the most bloody cases. Yeah, this was pretty bloody.

Berly

Like it was like all along his hairline. Yeah, and dripping down his whole face. Lots of blood, lots of blood. He needed it for his sigil, though. Yeah, oh yeah. All right.

LA

Like it had a purpose.

Berly

Did you adore anything about this episode?

LA

Well, I liked Ezekiel. I have to say. Right?

Berly

He was cute.

LA

And I was really, this sounds very, I shouldn't even, I don't even know that I want to put this into the words, but I was glad to see the guy that played death. Julian Richings. Yes. Because I don't want to say like I'm excited to see death. I'm certainly not, but he's so good though.

Berly

Just every scene he's in, Julian Richings cameo. Bob Bobby's cameo, Jim Beaver. Yes. It was that was a fun cameo. And same same thing though. Like, just like I wasn't excited to see death. I wasn't excited to see Bobby be like, yeah, Sam die. But it was fun to see Jim Beaver. For sure. You know what I mean?

LA

Like anytime he comes back.

Berly

Yeah. I mean, this was an interesting way to kick off the season, right? With it bridges that gap, though, that Sam was like on the verge of death. You can't have him just be a-oka right away. And so this bridges this gap that he is going to be a-oka right away, but there's this underlying drama as to why. It's kind of like a betrayal a little bit that Dean participated in this deception also. So I mean, surely this is going to come back to bite Dean in the ass. Oh, yeah. Surely Sam's going to figure it out at some point. And just find out what's going to happen with all these angels.

LA

I know. That's what I'm floating around.

Berly

Well, and it seems Oh, I forgot to talk. We forgot to talk about the laundromat. We got to talk about the laundromat. So it was so cute. But after Castile dealt with Hael and left her, well, actually, he didn't leave her. He killed her. Yeah. Forgot about that. He killed her because she was like saying, I'm going to tell all the angels where you are and all this other stuff if you don't come with me and let me possess you and all this other shit. So he was just like, All right, well, I'm going to stab you then. And then he was like, you know what? I'm all bloody and gross. I need to go to a laundromat and get cleaned up. And I remembered this was one of the scenes that I stopped doing what I was doing to watch the TV like all those years ago and be like, wait a minute, what is happening here? Well, I like I had seen his character before, but I knew he was like an angel and like couldn't be hurt and all this other stuff. So I was very confused, like, why is he in this laundry mat? And then he started taking his clothes off. And I was like, what is happening? And I love it. Whatever he gets completely stripped naked and then he looks over and sees the vending machine and is like, uh uh, what's more important to me? Like clean clothes or food? And then he comes to the compromise of I'll steal clean clothes and get myself food. Yeah, you gotta do what you gotta do. I love it. So I'm very excited to see what happens with this human cast. I I mean, I'm worried. I think he's gonna be okay. Well, I'm sure. You know, I'm excited about it.

LA

So many bad things could happen.

Berly

And then it's gonna be interesting to see how this plays out with Sam and this Ezekiel character in there.

LA

I hope we see more of the actual guy who played.

Berly

I do too. Tamo pink it. Because he was just kind of left in that hospital bed and didn't know how he got there.

LA

We'll see.

Berly

We'll see if he comes back.

Ezekiel Lore Plus Final Quotes

LA

Well, what about lore? Okay. Don't be surprised, but the lore's about Ezekiel. So was he sexy? Well, we'll see. So who is Ezekiel in real life? Well, he wasn't an angel. Shock. But some may have described his his what? Described him as angelic, just like me. According to Wikipedia, Ezekiel lived from 623 to 570 BC, was an Israelite priest and prophet born in Jerusalem, ex uh exiled to Babylon following the Neo-Babylonian conquest of Jerusalem in 587 BC, which destroyed Solomon's temple. His visions and acts are recorded in the biblical book of Ezekiel. His name means God is strong, or God strengthens in Hebrew, a fitting name for a powerful celestial being.

Berly

Cassial did say he was a good guy, a good soldier. He did, he did. I made note of that. Did you?

LA

Ezekiel prophesies both the destruction of Jerusalem and the eventual restoration of the Jewish people to Israel, with his recorded prophecies spanning roughly 22 years. Jewish tradition holds that his prophecies were compiled by the great assembly rather than written by Ezekiel himself. He is venerated as a prophet across Judaism, Christianity, Islam, and the Baha'i Faith. I apologize if I did not say that right. In Christian tradition, his vision of a closed gate was interpreted as foretelling the Virgin Mary and then and the incarnation of Christ.

Berly

That's crazy because like the heaven gets closed and all the angels get kicked out.

LA

Oh yeah. Oh, that is eel. In Islamic tradition, he is often identified with the Quranic figure Do all Kif Kiffle. Do all Kifel? Is that right? Your guess is as good as mine. I'm so sorry if I'm mispronouncing these things. For purposes of naming an angel, Ezekiel carries several resonant qualities. His name literally means divine strength. He served as both priest and prophet. He received dramatic visions of God's celestial throne and mysterious living creatures, and he was a messenger of both divine judgment and ultimate restoration. Core themes associated with the angelic purpose. His association with the resurrection imagery, most famously the Valley of Dry Bones vision in Ezekiel 37, further connects him to themes of heavenly power over life and death. His tomb in Al Kifel, and again, I'm so sorry if I'm not saying that right. Iraq has been a historically significant pilgrimage site, though it has largely been converted to Islamic use following the Jewish exodus from Iraq in the 1950s.

Berly

Alright, go Ezekiel.

LA

Yeah.

Berly

He's a good guy. He just actually no, he's not, because consent should be more important to him. And he wasn't an angel. Right? Like, not in real life. Yeah. But this this angel. I don't know. Like, that's what I'm trying to decide. I'm trying to decide like, is he a good guy or is he a bad guy?

LA

Because like he seems like he's good, but the fact that he was willing to trick someone into consenting makes me be like, oh well then I but then it's like he said he'll he will heal Sam while healing himself, and then he'll leave. Like so easy peasy. But are you gonna though?

Berly

Are you gonna? Because it seems like maybe you're gonna like get the root down up in Sammy and because you were way too pressing about like oh that it needs to be a secret that I'm up in him. You know, like there at the end, whenever they were just walking out of the hospital, and it was clearly Ezekiel. Jared Padalecki did a good job of changing.

LA

I was about to say the same thing.

Berly

The way he was walking, he's got so skinny little legs. Oh. His flared jeans were showing, like you could see where his legs were and the jeans began. But anyway, just the way he was carrying himself, like that was not Sam. Well, even the way he spoke, and even kind of turned his head. Definitely wasn't Sam. Yeah. But just the way he was like luring Dean into agreeing, like, oh, this is our little secret. Like, just I don't know that he's a good guy. To be seen. TBD. Well, quote, to close it out. Will you be death?

LA

Yeah, but I feel like we should do an honor honorable mention, quote, of the superpowered dicks falling. Oh, okay. But I don't remember the exact quote.

Berly

Okay, well, before we get to our quote to close it out, shout out to Sammy at the beginning of the episode when he was talking about angels from falling from heaven. What did he say, LA? I I don't remember the exact You just told me to bring it up.

LA

Well, he oh, he was like, Oh, so there's just like these superpowered dicks falling from the sky. Which I was like, Dream. Oh my god.

Berly

I got up and laid down on the ground and like the the quote that we have to close it out though is not from the superpowered dicks, and I wish it was, but it's not. So you beat death. Okay. No, I'm death. You're death. So when Sam walked into the cabin and Death told him that whenever he heard it was Sam Winchester, he insisted on coming to collect his soul himself. Sam said, I bet you get off on this.

LA

Oh Death didn't say that I did. Death said Perhaps, but not in the way you assume. I consider it to be quite the honor to be collecting the likes of Sam Winchester. I try so hard not to pass judgment at times like this. Not my bag, you see, but you.

Berly

Well played, my boy. Can you imagine getting a well-played my boy from death? Oh, thank you. I know my next cameo request from Julian Richie. Good job, good girl. Oh cheers, cheers.
