The Heart of Money podcast isn't going anywhere, but it is on a short break.

Over the last year, we've been working on creating something special just for you. Here is the first sneak peek to our new podcast mini-series, Idle Treasure.

SPEAKER_05:

Hey everyone! The Heart of Money podcast isn't going anywhere, but it is on a short break. I'm currently creating a new mini-series called Idle Treasure. It's a podcast exploring the reasons why billions of dollars are piling up in donor advice funds. If you're curious to learn more about the giving patterns and behaviors of Christians, I'd encourage you to check it out. Here's the trailer. Coming February 10th. There are billions of dollars sitting in donor advice funds, and we're here to ask the question: is that okay?

SPEAKER_03:

Yeah, there's millions and millions and millions of dollars that are currently locked up in donor advice funds. And that to me is like filling up your garage with a bunch of gas tanks that are full of gas. You don't do that. The gas gas is meant to move something.

SPEAKER_05:

Some Christians say there isn't a problem. Others are frustrated by the amount of charitable assets not getting deployed. Join me, Courtney Markley, on a narrative journey as we meet with industry experts, authors, ministry leaders, and entrepreneurs to discover what really lies beneath this number.

SPEAKER_02:

I think that your question of why money stays in a DAF is a good question to ask. And I know this if you don't ask the right question, you can never get the right answer. So that question raises a legitimate question that needs to be answered.

SPEAKER_05:

But this story isn't just about donor advice funds. It's about you and me and the elephant in the room. Christians give less today than during the Great Depression. It's simply become normal in our culture for God's people not to live generously. There may be billions of dollars in donor advice funds, but there are trillions of dollars in private foundations. But let's not stop there. Let's think about the countless amounts of money currently stockpiled in our own personal bank accounts and investment portfolios. What does it say about our faith when God's people are content with the suffering around the world, it seems, as long as we ourselves remain unaffected? DAFs, foundations, personal savings accounts, it's all the same conversation. What causes us not to give? This is all about stewarding heart issues long before you're stewarding money issues. This is a story about how our culture has shaped the way Christians behave with money.

SPEAKER_04:

And to keep us in a constant state of scarcity. Which the irony is we have such wealth and we're so afraid.

SPEAKER_05:

This is also a story about the goodness of wealth.

SPEAKER_00:

And around the world, the places where we work, we work in places of poverty, and I see money as an incredible tool. I see money as this incredible gift that we've been given.

SPEAKER_05:

It's about the vulnerable reasons why we often keep money to ourselves, and it's about the opportunity of a moment.

SPEAKER_01:

Sometimes there's a window of opportunity where we can actually step into another person's life. If we miss that opportunity, sometimes it's gone.

SPEAKER_04:

It's about freeing your soul. Money and wealth can dull your senses. So I think the urgency is like how do you break the slumber that you're in?
