Exeter Rider Motorcycle Podcast
Thanks for dropping by to the Exeter Rider Podcast.I wanted to start this podcast as a way of putting some of my YouTube channels work and some of the Live shows in one place so people can listen to it anywhere.I myself like to listen to podcasts while at work and being in the domestic sector and working in people's homes I often can not listen to certain podcasts due to swearing, so I will make a conscious effort not to do that so people can feel at ease, and they can then listen anywhere.I hope I can make this work and at least break even on costs but if you want to support the show then please buy me a coffee via this link to help the podcast survive. https://www.buymeacoffee.com/exeterThanks E.R #exeterrider #noobiker #epicadam motovlogs, #saddlebags73 and #westonsupermotovlogs.

SPEAKER_00Any time Lynn, alright?

unknownExcellent.
SPEAKER_01So make sure you keep quiet now, Lynn. Alright? Oh no, no, you tune in, Lynn.
SPEAKER_07He's living a dangerous life in he.
SPEAKER_00Oh, I'll get a clay later, I strike. I think we all are, aren't we? We're all like that. Yeah. Well, I mean I'll three chair, aren't I? I'm gonna say hello to Andy GSA Tractor, Slowrider. I saw your video come out today slow. I haven't seen it yet. I'll take a look later. Uh Rev bomb UK, hello. Who else have we got? Uh the contented biker. Hello, mate. How are you doing? Great to hear from you. Jamie T Spike and Adventure.
SPEAKER_09I'm a fight, didn't I?
SPEAKER_00Kind to go. GB Patriot. Hello, mate. And that seems to be it so far. We mark. Hello, mate. How are you doing? And let me introduce my uh crowd here today. So we've got Saddlebags 73 on the top side on the top right hand side. Lovely to see you have to video it today again, Jeff. Good news, mate. Oh thank you.
SPEAKER_08Thank you.
SPEAKER_00Lovely to wake way to wake up on a Sunday. We have Mark the Most Wanted. Smile, Mark.
SPEAKER_01Evening all.
SPEAKER_00There he is. Um bottom left hand corner. We have uh Heath and Kim, also known as Lost Helmets and Him. Hello. Hello Makers these two. Well, I think it's both of you. Hello, Howie. Hello, Quinn. Good to hear from you all. You've got any questions for any of these guys? Please ask away. Uh apart from that. I'm gonna say, Mark, who are you? Where are you from? Ish. Me. Not actually, yeah. Don't not your full address, not your postcode.
SPEAKER_01Well, Tabby these days, but I'm a Whitley boy originally from Plymouth.
SPEAKER_05Hey, nice one, Mark.
SPEAKER_01Good on Kim.
Europe Tour Highlights And Costs
SPEAKER_00Whitley, where's that? Was that Cornwall, is it?
SPEAKER_05No! Devon!
SPEAKER_00Plymouth. Oh, Devon, is it? Plymouth is what I know about mine, about Plymouth. Um Eve, you've just been uh across Europe this this year, haven't you?
SPEAKER_09Yeah, just done seven weeks across Europe, yeah.
SPEAKER_05I can't believe we're gonna hear it all again.
SPEAKER_00I know you've got to go through it all over again, I'm afraid, Ken. You haven't earned the video in Lim, have you?
SPEAKER_05Oh god, Mark, it's been awful.
SPEAKER_09Yeah, I have a week, Space. Seven great weeks. It was supposed to be twelve, but I did seven in the end. Why did you want to do seven? Uh because he's missing me.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that's what it was.
SPEAKER_09Yeah, well I was gonna go to Turkey and I was gonna do a lot of camping in Western Europe and I threw away the tent after the first night, and then obviously my price my budgeted, my budgeted costs went up.
SPEAKER_10Yeah.
SPEAKER_09So I thought I would save Turkey for another another trip. So I just went down as far as Greece and back around and back up again.
SPEAKER_00A common thing people were saying, and that you said in your in your videos, was that the costs of travelling now has gone up a lot, hasn't it?
Routes, Ruins, And First-Time Rides
SPEAKER_09Certainly Western Europe. Definitely when you get towards Poland, Bulgaria, and Greece, and that the price drops fuel-wise, hotel-wise, food-wise. As soon as you start coming back up the coast along Montenegro and Croatia, and all that, because you're running along resorts and holiday places, that price automatically goes up, and then as soon as you run into like um Austria and that, yeah, you're paying top dollar then.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. And Ed, have you actually been to any of these places before?
SPEAKER_09Only France, Austria, Germany, Belgium. I've been to, but none of the others really, no.
SPEAKER_05You haven't been to see them, had you?
SPEAKER_09I've definitely not ridden to most of them. So that that was a route I had in my mind to go and see stuff, and that's how I plotted my route across to go and see stuff. So, like a lot of the stuff to start with was World War II stuff. Oh, yeah. And then it was castles and what I call crumbly old ruins, like Brown's castle. I did. Oh, I can't remember. I did lots of stuff out of castle. Yeah, but I saw lots of stuff on the internet that I wanted to go and see tick off.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Was he tempted to go, Kim? I know I know it's complicated getting time off and everything else.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, because you got no, because you were going you originally you were going for three months, and I I couldn't get three months off work, and I've got a little little little ginger sacky sank there. He he couldn't do about me for three months.
SPEAKER_04No.
SPEAKER_05Um three months. I mean, we do three weeks on the bike, and that's enough for me, really. So I have got to concentrate. I'm not a great, I'm not a great rider, so I've I have got to concentrate a little bit. I think three months would have been would have been shattered, I think.
SPEAKER_00You do well, because he's done a France trip. Was that this year or was it the year before? Yeah before.
SPEAKER_05Yeah before we did Spain the year before. Yeah, we've got Spain planned for this year, three weeks.
SPEAKER_00Oh, lovely. Was that up uh the peacock?
Spain Plans And Road Culture
SPEAKER_09Is it no no no no no we're doing another lap again? So we go down towards south and then back up around anti-clockwise. Okay, peacoffs. Every time we've been through near it's been raining, um it's really narrow roads, uh, but there's so much to Spain to see. So if you just go to the peak, we'll go to the Pyrenees. I've been to a few times, but again, you're in the mountains, so there's only so many roads you can do. There's only so much you can see where uh Spain has really got a lot to offer.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. How about you, Jeff? You you were on the I know it's I think it's COVID, wasn't it, that put a stop to your Spain trip?
SPEAKER_08Yeah, I had um a big tour of Spain planned, but yeah, COVID put pay to that. And uh yeah, I've not not got back around to it yet, but it's still you haven't been to Spain then, Jeff, on the bike yet? Not on the bike, I've been to Spain several times, yeah. Buyer cars and that, and um always wished I was on a bike. So I will I'll get to it one day.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, it it is it is nice, Spain on the bike.
SPEAKER_09Well, you're treated the drivers, people out there are treated differently. So they got more respect for you and give you more room. So we we've done it stopped and roundabouts to let us two out.
SPEAKER_08Yeah. We found that in Ireland, haven't we, Mark? Sorry, mate. We found that in Ireland that the the bikers are treated really well by the drivers, give you room and let you out and so you can stay in a group, things like that.
SPEAKER_00Have you done any Europe trips, Mark?
SPEAKER_01No, I haven't, mate. No, not on not on bikes at all. To be honest, my first trip really was with Jeff to Ireland the first year. So and that was just um spur of the moment, really, when he offered me the chance, I thought gotta do it. You know? Life's short, isn't it?
SPEAKER_00It is yeah, I did I I really really really want to do it. Um yeah, I don't know what what's happening next year. Obviously, it's been a bit of a a funny year anyway, but um things are gonna be changing again soon, hopefully. So um yeah, we'll see. Um but have you got an island trip booked for next year or anything? Jeff and Mark?
SPEAKER_08I haven't. Nothing planned as yet.
SPEAKER_01No, last Pera's Osos, isn't it? We were talking about doing something, aren't we, as a group? I mean, there's uh the Sammy Miller trip. We were gonna do so. That's just a sort of a long weekend or whatever, isn't it? That's like that's kind of on the cards now.
SPEAKER_00That's Bournemouth, isn't it? Sammy Miller?
SPEAKER_01It's I don't know, Southampton way, isn't it?
SPEAKER_09Yeah, southampton way, and five new forests and that, I think.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that's right. Yeah, so I think that that that's hopefully gonna happen, but that's it, really.
SPEAKER_09I've still got that's later on this year, I think. They're potentially trying to do it. Wait, wait, when was he talking about Ethereum later in the year or early? I can't remember without looking at my phone.
SPEAKER_01No, I can't. I can't remember. Uh Pete was on about it, wouldn't he?
SPEAKER_09Yeah, so I said that I think I said I could be interested because there's an overnighter in it, or one night two nights in Airbnb.
SPEAKER_01Yes, yeah, yeah. So that that that would be a laugh anyway, wouldn't it? Like, you know, so definitely wine involved.
SPEAKER_09Well, I'd do that be like a drinkers reunion, wouldn't it? Probably.
SPEAKER_01And there's Kim going for a bottle, look. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00She's spilling it already.
SPEAKER_06Look, don't waste it, Kim. No, I've got a spot and drop.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I'm on a drive spell, not Steve.
SPEAKER_09If you're gonna do a trip, you just need to get in and do it. You can do it as cheap as possible, as possible. Just need to go and do it. Yeah, find the bullet. So every time you find your skuse not to do it, you just shoot yourself in the foot.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I know what you mean, mate.
SPEAKER_09You can just jump on the ferry and doing a couple of nights of Brittany and back again, or doing full blow a couple of weeks or whatever.
SPEAKER_05That's how we started off, isn't it?
SPEAKER_09We just did a uh weekend weekends and stuff like that, but you can make it as cheap as you can live in a tent, you can sleep in a bus shower if you wanted to, or you can have the top hotel. You've got everything in between.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I'd be happy in the UK. I'd I wouldn't really need to go abroad. I'd be more than happy just doing a tour of the coastline or whatever, really. And it's not the same.
SPEAKER_09No, and I and again, it's time off in it. When we're all working, it's time off, you know. I'm lucky my company gave me three months sabbatical, you know.
UK Vs Europe: Time, Ferries, Budgets
SPEAKER_05Yeah, yeah, but the UK's still great though. There's some lovely places in the UK.
SPEAKER_01There's loads in the UK, I haven't seen Switzerland is this one I like to do.
SPEAKER_00Sorry?
SPEAKER_08Switzerland is in the UK.
SPEAKER_00No, no, that's true. Yeah.
SPEAKER_09Scotland's like two days' ride, really.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, because we've always been invited up to Scotland well on a bike thing, haven't we?
SPEAKER_09And then six hours we could be in France, and then you're not going to be able to do that.
SPEAKER_05We've always declined it with this sort of other group that we belong to because it just takes so long for us to get up there.
SPEAKER_09Yeah, so and that cost of getting there, it just is well jump on the ferry, you know, ferry, you can get a ferry back at return 140 quid, 130 quid, depending on when you do it, and off you go.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah, yeah. Good point. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05But there are some nice places in in the UK to do. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Well, Cornwall.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, yeah, yeah. Cornwall's lovely.
SPEAKER_01And a fuel's cheaper. Probably mines.
SPEAKER_00Copper mines. And pot mines. Bottles. Pasty mines.
SPEAKER_06Pasty mines.
SPEAKER_00One of the things I want to do actually is um gear farm pasties. Oh, you gotta have one of them. They're the best, mate.
SPEAKER_01Gear farm gear farm.
SPEAKER_05Gear farm, never heard of it.
SPEAKER_01Down on the lizard.
SPEAKER_05Oh, really?
SPEAKER_01They're the best, without a doubt. Have you been there since the storm, Mark? Since the storm? No. No, mate. No, because it's it's closed, or our caravan sites closed January, February, so March will be back down there. Yeah. Well, were you gonna ask if the pasty place was destroyed?
SPEAKER_08Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, no, I don't think so. I think it's fine. That'd be properly devastating. Yeah. But you'll find out. Oh, we'll be following scroll checking in March. Don't worry, so yeah.
SPEAKER_00Good stuff. Um right. I've got a quiz today. What are we doing for time? Yeah, it's not too bad, is it? I've got some quiz questions for you, so you have to get a pen and paper at some point. Everybody got got a pen and paper?
SPEAKER_01No, I've got my secretary nearby. She can do that for me. Hello, Lynn. She's off to go and get a bit now.
SPEAKER_09I don't feel confident Mark's gonna survive with my at the moment.
SPEAKER_01I'll be asleep in a minute.
SPEAKER_00Bloody hell, how he's saying Greg's Greg's pasties are the best. He's having a joke, isn't he? Greg's eggs. Greg's Greg's.
SPEAKER_06He's just trying to start an argument.
SPEAKER_01I think he's trying to uh trying to raise raise us there to bite, isn't he? Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_05That always causes a bit of an argument, isn't it?
SPEAKER_09Well the room would be split here, wouldn't it?
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Pasties in Bolton cars. Come on. Only a pasty's got to come from Cornwall. Simple.
SPEAKER_09It's a Devin invention, though, isn't it?
SPEAKER_01What is? No, the cream teas are a teeth, innit?
SPEAKER_00And cider, believe it or not. Cider. Cider is not from Somerset. It's from Dem.
SPEAKER_08You know, claim everything.
SPEAKER_01Is that a pint of wine, Jeff?
SPEAKER_08No, it's a pint of squash. It's a school night.
SPEAKER_09Holder jazz. My mum tries on the jazz.
SPEAKER_05She does.
SPEAKER_09Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Honda Jazz again.
SPEAKER_09Yeah. That's not my mum, though. She drives like a mad woman.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Uh right.
unknownOkay.
Cornwall, Storms, And Pasty Lore
SPEAKER_00Also, the people in the comments section as well, if you want to get a pen and paper as well.
SPEAKER_08Steve a while ago, I noticed somebody asked if you were the guy that crashed a nearly new NC750 on a sheet of ice. It might have been me. It might have been me.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. That's probably my most popular video. Oh, alright. Whenever I get I get recognized, they always say, Oh, you're the one who fell off on the ice, aren't you? Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_09Did you fall? Didn't you crash a Himalayan as well?
SPEAKER_00No, that wasn't me. That was somebody else. You can crash a Himalayan. Don't be so stupid. I don't want to talk about it, alright?
SPEAKER_07I mentioned the joke as you ask.
SPEAKER_01There's quite a few things you don't want to talk about, really, Steven there. Yeah, with candles.
SPEAKER_00Oh don't how exciting. Right. Okay, ready for the other question? Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Okay. Question one. Question one.
SPEAKER_06Oh, it was about clothes and shoes.
SPEAKER_00It's no, it's not clothes and shoes, unfortunately. No. Um is it Neko? Is that who's got their uh sound on too loud? Might be you, Heath. Might be me? Try that. That's it. Brilliant. That's better. Yeah, you can still hear me, yeah? Yeah, yeah. Yeah, there's no echo now. Brilliant. Right. Why do long stroke engines usually produce more low RPM talk?
SPEAKER_06What the fuck sort of question is that?
SPEAKER_00Oh, we've got lots more coming like that.
SPEAKER_01Say that again, Steve.
SPEAKER_00Right. Why do long stroke engines usually produce more low-end RPM talk?
SPEAKER_01Hmm. I don't know why.
SPEAKER_00I thought that was an easy one, but yeah, I've got it. Yeah, I've done it.
SPEAKER_01What's the answer, Jeff?
SPEAKER_00Jeff, can you tax it over? Uh I'll tell you what, we're gonna do this like this actually, right? What does increase rate generally improve? Improve? Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Was that a second question then? That's the second question, mate. Yeah. I don't even hear it, mate. You don't remember I've only got one ear.
SPEAKER_00Am I quiet or I mate why are you too quiet? Howie was saying that I'm a bit quiet on the thing. So um what does increased rape generally improve? Instrape. Yeah. You know, like the the geometry on the forks. Yeah.
SPEAKER_06That's supposed to be protecting this work if you're all right, all done?
The Motorcycle Tech Quiz Begins
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Cool. Uh why do race bikes use longer swing arms? I don't know how many we'll do here. I think we'll do it. I don't know what you're doing. All got that?
SPEAKER_09You've got the same answer.
SPEAKER_05You've got the same answer for Shut up. I can't believe you just told me shut up, but come along.
SPEAKER_00So I've got I'm gonna be picky on these on these questions because some of them are just stupid difficult. Where did you get them from? Uh on online. Um I won't do that one either. What limits maximum lean angle in practice? What? So when you're going round a corner, full beans, put your knee down, what limits maximum lean angle? What limits? Yeah. Well, okay. I didn't write these questions. What does a quick shifter momentarily cut? That's an easy one.
SPEAKER_01Oh, can you?
SPEAKER_05Yeah, we got that little text mic.
SPEAKER_01I thought I was pretty hand over the mic, but obviously I ain't.
SPEAKER_05I do that all the time with Eve because he's half deaf.
unknownWell I
SPEAKER_01At the moment I've got perforated eardrum. Have you really? Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Why are steering dampeners common on sports bikes? That's one for you, Mike. That's right.
SPEAKER_01Did you hear me answer then? You're cheating, ain't you?
SPEAKER_00He's probably seen these questions, Mark, hasn't he? He's gonna get hard right now. Uh what happens if vows are set too tight? What would you say? Say that again, Matthew. What happens if vows are set too tight? I think I need to move on from these questions. This is all the same thing. Oh, I haven't got to the difficult ones yet.
SPEAKER_01You're having no laugh, ain't ya?
SPEAKER_00No. I know I had a ride the bike. You're pretty good on the mechanics, mate. It depends what it is. What brand is famous for desmodron desmodromic valves?
SPEAKER_01Okay. Well done for managing to pronounce that. Steve I would have been able to. I don't know, I've struggled, mate.
SPEAKER_09Electronics.
SPEAKER_00How new is that that we learned so far? Why do high performance spikes idle roughly? Is my mic too quiet, Mark Mark?
SPEAKER_05Yours is fine, but we can hear Mark.
SPEAKER_00It's a struggle. Oh okay. Lynn, you have to translate it for him, Lynn, alright?
SPEAKER_01Yeah. You will. Hello. Not a challenge. It's too early, mate.
SPEAKER_07So that's what she does to me. She's being funny.
SPEAKER_00I am what isn't it? Why does a cross-plane crank feel like it has more talk? I wouldn't know this one. Did you know the answers to these, Steve? Before I I knew some of them, I knew half of them, but not I wouldn't know that one. And I think we'll leave it there. I've got loads more.
SPEAKER_09Steve Steve, are you expecting serious answers or some sort of stuff in the three?
SPEAKER_00No, that's why I got you lot on. I know I'm gonna I could get anything. I'm definitely serious about this.
SPEAKER_01I I genuinely could go.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I well, I'm hoping Kim's gonna know all the answers to these questions. So of course she might have done back. Yeah. Right, so quite still got me cough. Um why do you longest look why do long stroke engines usually produce more low-end RPM talk? Well, more power over a longer range, isn't it?
SPEAKER_09More power of the stroke.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Was that question number one? That was question number one. Yeah, no, I ain't got an answer for that.
SPEAKER_09Oh, come on, Lynn. That's Lynn's fault, Mark.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, she missed it.
SPEAKER_00How about you, Jeff? What have you put? Physics? Physics, you're not getting a point for that. Brilliant. Bloody oh, it's only the first question. What does increase and what does increased rake generally improve?
SPEAKER_01Increased rake.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Is that steeper or shallower? That's gonna be shallower. Shallower. No, no, no, steeper. Steeper. It'd be like that, wouldn't it?
SPEAKER_01Sharper steering. If you bring the wheel back and increase the if you it's more for stability, isn't it?
SPEAKER_09The more upright, the more stability, but you can't go round for steering.
SPEAKER_08That very slower is the steering, doesn't it? If you increase the rate, the front wheel is further out, isn't it? Further out.
SPEAKER_01Oh, so it's slower. So it's slower steering.
SPEAKER_08I thought it's further in.
SPEAKER_07Yeah.
SPEAKER_08That's a steeper.
SPEAKER_01What's that, mate?
SPEAKER_07But like the way you ride.
SPEAKER_01Like 50 pence pieces.
SPEAKER_06Oh, that's Kim. Oh, that's me, Mike.
SPEAKER_08Anyway, I put stability.
SPEAKER_00No, that that's a point for you, Jeff. Point for uh Heath and Kim as well.
SPEAKER_08Two out of two so far, thank you.
SPEAKER_00No, Jeff.
SPEAKER_06Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_07Hold on a minute. That's four for us, he's doing it. He individually.
SPEAKER_01What did you put, Mark? It uh it uh if it slowers slows the steering down. It does speeds it up. Yeah, that's right. So I want a point, thank you.
SPEAKER_00No, no, it speeds it up, doesn't it?
SPEAKER_01No, no, bring a bring a wheel closer to the pipe and that'll sharpen the steering, push it further away, and it'll slower the steering. Oh, of course, yeah, yeah, yeah. That's why you will you will get a point. You never see coverage, do you?
SPEAKER_09No, no, Lynn's not running that very clear, is she? What's that, mate?
SPEAKER_07Lynn's not writing those answers very clearly, is she?
SPEAKER_06That wasn't Jeff. That was eighth.
Lean Angle, Quickshifters, And Dampers
SPEAKER_01Eith, Jack, you're getting the blin for that one. That was eight.
SPEAKER_00Um everybody else put makes headboard now bang louder.
SPEAKER_07Yeah if you're right. That's the longer stroke one, wouldn't it?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah, that's it.
SPEAKER_01Oh no.
SPEAKER_06Oh no.
SPEAKER_01Some of the comments, some of the comments.
SPEAKER_00They're great, aren't they? Hello, Mark from Tour Bay. Uh where were we? So it's only gonna share them. Oh yeah, that's it. What limits maximum lean angle in practice?
SPEAKER_08No, we haven't done number three yet.
SPEAKER_09Yeah, number three yet, Steve. Come on. No.
SPEAKER_00Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_06Why do you race use longer swing arms?
SPEAKER_08It's uh to uh limit wheeling.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that's what I thought actually, but I'm not sure. I'm not sure.
SPEAKER_08Well, I'll put stability again.
SPEAKER_00Okay, so the actual answer that I've been given is improved rear tire traction.
SPEAKER_01Oh, okay. Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_00Same thing.
SPEAKER_09Well, I'll take a point for that. Yeah, I'll have a point for that.
SPEAKER_05He's cheating. I'm not cheating. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I might have to get rid of you if you start cheating like that. What limits maximum lean angle in practice? Oh, that'll be bottle.
SPEAKER_01What do you got? That'll be bottle, wouldn't it? Bottle.
SPEAKER_08I've put grip and ground clearance. Oh god, you're bored.
SPEAKER_01I'll just put grip actually.
SPEAKER_08Oh I've got to win this. I think he's actually trying to get it.
SPEAKER_00I think Chef, to be fair, I think he needs two points for that. Because the actual answer I've got is tired grip.
SPEAKER_08That's awesome. Do I get a point for balls?
SPEAKER_00No.
unknownNo.
SPEAKER_00I'll get a point for grip, done. Uh oh yeah, yeah. Did you put grip though? Yeah.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Okay. Yeah, you get one point, Jeff gets two. What did you put, Ethan Kim?
SPEAKER_06Ethan Kim?
SPEAKER_00Balls. Balls. Balls. I mean that it is true. Hilarious. Honestly, that's true for ass neck. It's all kind of true though, isn't it?
SPEAKER_09Kind of wrong answer.
SPEAKER_00So what does a quick shifter momentarily cut? Momentarily cut electrics. Ignition.
unknownIgnition.
SPEAKER_09Ignition. I've got the same answer as Mark.
SPEAKER_01Did you hear me say it earlier, Ethan?
SPEAKER_00Not sure I can give you that, Jeff. Power. Ignition, isn't it? Ignition and fuel.
SPEAKER_09Obviously, Mark. Ignition power.
SPEAKER_00Jeff, you've lost this one, so well yeah, but you've already got so many points anyway, Jeff. We need to knock knock you down a peg or two. Right, right. I'll take it. Why are steering dampeners common on sports bikes? Stop tankers. Can I go first? Stop tank slappers. Def wobbles.
SPEAKER_06Def wobbles. Oh, because they're ridden by girls.
SPEAKER_00Well, well, I mean, what bikes do you do you commonly get? Tank slappers?
SPEAKER_08TL thousand?
SPEAKER_01Me, I I got it on a T113. Yeah.
SPEAKER_08RD350.
SPEAKER_00Oh, really? Oh really?
SPEAKER_08Yeah.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Right. Yeah, the only time I've had that was on my Bagman 650. Many years ago. No. Yeah, true. Scooter boy.
SPEAKER_06Woohoo!
SPEAKER_01Um I had it on a skateboard once.
SPEAKER_06Oh, did you? Yeah, I did. I'll come off.
SPEAKER_01Was this last week?
SPEAKER_00No, I've still got my skateboard though. Actually, let's see what we're doing in the comments. Hello, Jim. Hello, Jim. Hello, Jim. Hello, Jim. Alright, Jim. Who's got their sound? Is that oh you might need the sound on loud anyway, Mark. So we'll let you go let it go. Right, so that's that. Right, next question. What brand is uh famous for Desmo Tree?
SPEAKER_09Number seven first.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Oh, what happens if the valves are too tight? They squeak.
unknownI've got this.
SPEAKER_00It could be right, it could be close. What number of questions?
SPEAKER_07Seven! That was seven.
SPEAKER_09They burn 'em?
unknownThey burn them.
SPEAKER_09Well your valves burn, don't they? If they're too tight, because they're always open.
SPEAKER_00No, no. Yeah, they squeak. There you go, Ken, you got a point. Well done. They squeak. Uh Mark and Jeff, any thoughts?
SPEAKER_08Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Well, I thought they wouldn't have opened enough. If they were too tight. You kind of want you you're on the you're on the right track, but I need a bit more. What do you want? Tell me.
SPEAKER_06Tell me.
SPEAKER_05Well, I can't show you because it's roughly the answer.
Valves, Desmo, And Cross-Plane Myths
SPEAKER_01It restricts the bike. Um, so it's not gonna let enough gases in or out.
unknownClose.
SPEAKER_09They don't shut, do they properly? I've got more do you want? Science.
SPEAKER_06Silence. Science.
SPEAKER_09But silence.
SPEAKER_00Science.
SPEAKER_06Science.
SPEAKER_00Science.
SPEAKER_06Science. Science and physics.
SPEAKER_00Alright, so obviously if the valves are open and you come up to compression T D C what happens?
unknownWhat happens?
SPEAKER_05They squeak.
SPEAKER_00Yep, that's one. Yeah, you got that. It squeaks in this mode.
SPEAKER_09Well the the properly, the air goes through back out, doesn't it?
SPEAKER_00Which which you lose compression. Power. Thank you. Compression. Yeah. I'll get that one in it. So Kim gets a point. And I don't think you lot to Kim gets a point for two squeaks. Oh if you squeak, isn't he? Well and it'll know the next one. I know this job again. And while we're on it, Kim, what do we do to stop squeaking?
SPEAKER_05That's a WP40 on it.
SPEAKER_00Boom. There you go. It's another point for Kim. Right. What brand is famous for Desmodromic valves? Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_05What is that?
SPEAKER_00Oh go on then, Kim. Yep.
SPEAKER_05The catty.
SPEAKER_00Got it. Yep. Two points for you, Kim. Ducati. What is it? Ducati. Desmodromic valve. What's that to? It's mechanical. Sign anyone.
SPEAKER_09Sign.
SPEAKER_00Oh.
SPEAKER_09What instead of a physics is mechanical? It physically let's say it shuts it.
SPEAKER_00What by a gear? Is it like geared or still chained?
SPEAKER_09Oh right.
SPEAKER_00I think Harley did that, didn't he?
SPEAKER_09It mechanically opens and shuts it.
SPEAKER_00Oh, okay. I never knew that.
SPEAKER_09I think it's fine. Could be wrong, but can't say I'll do that.
SPEAKER_00There you go, your mate stick it up for your ear heath.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. Yes. Well that doesn't happen very often, is it?
SPEAKER_09Cheers, Richard. Well, we both had the carries, so we should know.
SPEAKER_01Has he been messaging the answers, Eve? What's that? Has he been messaging Eve for the answers, Richard? I think he has.
SPEAKER_00Why do high performance spike idle roughly?
SPEAKER_06Roughly.
SPEAKER_00Because it's a Honda, Steve. Because it's a Honda. Get a point so much.
SPEAKER_01You'll be upsetting Phil.
SPEAKER_07Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Tune to Rev. I don't know why they why that is. I've got to be honest. I don't know.
SPEAKER_00I think there's a lot of right answers here, Jeff. You were right. Obviously. Grav, you're right as well. Right as well. It's because uh of a aggressive cam profiles. Obviously, they keep it really tight and borderline blowing the valves out, no doubt. Um right. Okay, so why does a cross plane crank feel like it has more sort of odd firing?
SPEAKER_09Absolutely no idea.
SPEAKER_06No idea.
SPEAKER_08Odd firing sequence. Science. Science. Science.
SPEAKER_05You got every question right now, science or physics.
SPEAKER_00It is because of reduced talk overlap improves rear tire feedback of me. Science, basically. Yeah. So Jeff, you got a point there. Wizardry. Wizardry, yeah.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_00I think that's it.
SPEAKER_06That's it.
SPEAKER_00I've got another two hundred questions, but I think uh I think I might knock it there. Right, so how many have you got then? Adam up twenty-six. Mark hasn't got any because he couldn't hear nothing.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah. Flying the flag for Whitley Kim.
SPEAKER_03Yay, it's not Whitley.
SPEAKER_00Never heard of Whitley. Don't want to mess with them.
SPEAKER_03No, they wanna mess with the part, do they?
SPEAKER_00Oh like Rev bombs coming out with all the uh the proper answers, actually. Has an X shape firing sequence.
SPEAKER_09Oh Richard Windows from Binding 9 windows. Stops it squeaking.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, on the Ode M T 10. Best sounding bikes ever. I don't know what that means. What you mean, Howie? Don't know what you mean though.
SPEAKER_08That's the new 6-7.
Tiebreakers, Traction Control, Race Lines
SPEAKER_00Oh, is it? I think you need a tiebreaker. Yeah, that's not a bad idea. Let's find out a really technical question.
SPEAKER_06Ready, Kim? Ready, Kim? Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Actually, we'll do an easy one first. What does it have a blue dress?
SPEAKER_05What colour fee feels best with it?
SPEAKER_00How did you know that was how did you know what that was gonna was gonna say? What colour goes best with a blue dress? You did in Ireland. And I have put white. Anyone else? No.
SPEAKER_05Silver can be good as well.
SPEAKER_08What about yellow? Yellow would be very nice.
SPEAKER_05We're talking blue for the blue.
SPEAKER_08No, no, it's blue. Oh.
SPEAKER_00What's the what's the answer, Kim? What's the answer? Really?
SPEAKER_05Yes.
SPEAKER_00Okay. Fair enough. Backs of bikes. Now she is, yeah. Um right, so da da da last question is what does traction control oh no that's too easy.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_00It was just an easy. Yeah, do an easy control. What does uh traction control actually limit?
SPEAKER_01Power.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Power. Yeah, a bit more precise than that.
SPEAKER_09Why? It can't be power. Science.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that's what it does. But what's it limit? It limits something. Not power. No.
SPEAKER_07Traction.
SPEAKER_01It limits.
SPEAKER_05Oh I know what it is. Hang on, Mark's got a mark coming through.
SPEAKER_01Does it reduce?
SPEAKER_00I don't know. I don't know how it does it. Electronics. The actual answer is uh when it kicks in, you're normally what?
SPEAKER_09It's a fufu valve, Steve.
SPEAKER_00Oh valve? Wheel spin. There you go, Mark. Mark's got it.
SPEAKER_05What is it, Mark?
SPEAKER_00Wheel spin. That's what it does, isn't it?
SPEAKER_09It's a fufu valve.
SPEAKER_00Well, yeah.
SPEAKER_08Oh, limiting the power, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Limits the power, but it stops the wheel spin. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01It's called the throttle, isn't it? Traction control. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Okay, last one, a racing one, okay. Why is corner exit more important than entry?
SPEAKER_08Get on the power more. Carry it speed on the straight.
SPEAKER_00Boom. There you go, Jeff. Well done, mate.
SPEAKER_07That's a fix.
SPEAKER_00Well, you owe me that money now, Jeff.
SPEAKER_08Yeah. Get your gear for a pasty.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, good man. Sounds good to me.
SPEAKER_08Gotta get him down there first, Jeff. Yeah, I know. He's gonna push him out of his comfort zone.
SPEAKER_01He keeps talking about it, but we can't get him down there. No. Can't get him abroad.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, you Steve. Yeah, it's uh it's a long way, innit, for us Devin folk going over the border.
SPEAKER_01He's death doable in a day. We've done it in a day, Jeff, didn't we? Yeah, easy. Went down and map wet uh got the pasty and so on.
SPEAKER_09And that's it's not a bad ride, is it to them, is it, is it?
SPEAKER_01No, no, it's alright. Down through centre. I'll still go that way, past Pete's place, pick him up on the way.
SPEAKER_09He's too heavy to pick up, isn't he?
SPEAKER_00Uh all right, yeah, that's about the cornering speed, isn't it?
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I think Rev Bomb has got pretty much every question right, I think, but he is a mechanic, isn't he?
SPEAKER_02Oh, that's cheating.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, better go and tell us and take your time coming out to be so.
SPEAKER_08I see Rev Bomb commented on my video. Thank you, Rev Bomb. Um, he was talking about coming down this way for a meetup with some of the West Countrionians.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah, I think he's um doing something with Lex Moto, isn't he? I think. Is he in Exeter? Yeah. Don't think you invited Steve, but yeah. No, no, no, no. I don't know. No. No, I've got a proper job. I don't want I can't go anyway, so it doesn't matter. Oh yeah, no, it'd be good if he does. Um yeah, well, there you go, that's about it. Well done to uh Saddlebag 73. I think I'm gonna have to give him the crown. Um poor Mark hasn't been able to hear anything that anybody's been able to say. Okay, yeah, then give it that and then Kim got the bonus points, and Heath's got nothing.
SPEAKER_09Oh that saddles my life up.
Bike Wishlists And Test Rides
SPEAKER_00No, it's good it was good fun that brilliant. 45 minutes has gone by already. Yeah, that flu, didn't it? Did Jesus. Anything you want to talk about, Mark? What's it work?
SPEAKER_01I don't want to talk about work, but enough of that. I'll retire, can I? Yeah, retirement.
SPEAKER_08That's the best way. You want, mate? Yeah, talk about some test rides or some bikes you fancy or something. V Strom thousand, I think it's gotta be in it.
SPEAKER_01Just buy it, buy it, just where I'm heading. I've got to find one Eve.
SPEAKER_00I thought you were on the 650. I thought you were trying to get a 650.
SPEAKER_01No, I I I rolled Jeff's and it's very, very nice, but I just want more grunt. Yeah. Greedy.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. That 1050 got loads of grunt, but it is a big heavy bike, as you know.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I just I prefer the luck of the thousand to be honest. The late thousands, like, you know.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that's all right. Kim, what have you got? Have you got the T100, Bonneville? Or is it the T120?
SPEAKER_05I don't know.
SPEAKER_00You got the 900. 900, is it? Yeah. You happy with that? You're not gonna is that like your yeah, I'm not gonna get anything else. Sydney.
SPEAKER_01Sydney, I thought it was 865.
unknownHey?
SPEAKER_01I thought yours was an 865.
SPEAKER_09Yeah, well it is, but they sell it as a nine.
SPEAKER_05But they sell it as a 900.
SPEAKER_01Oh, do they? All right. Nice.
SPEAKER_00Right. What bikes have you had in the past, Kim?
SPEAKER_05Hey?
SPEAKER_00What bikes have you had in the past?
SPEAKER_05That's it. That's what I haven't got. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Oh, fair play. Wow. You've gone abroad on it in all sorts, haven't you?
SPEAKER_05Yeah. How many miles have I done on them? 27 basically?
SPEAKER_0927 something.
SPEAKER_05And most of that's been abroad, really.
SPEAKER_09Oh wow. That's impressive.
SPEAKER_05So I bought it as a as a demo. It had 600, 600 miles on it, something like that.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Okay. Yeah. How about you, Heath? Are you tempt are you tempted to go 1300 on the GS?
SPEAKER_04Oh, don't don't go there.
SPEAKER_09Well, you let the doggo, I'll tell you the truth. Yeah, I'm really tempted. Yeah, no, uh automatic.
SPEAKER_01Automatic?
SPEAKER_09Yeah, they do the auto, don't they?
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Have you ridden?
SPEAKER_09Quite like the idea of that. Sorry, Mark?
SPEAKER_01Have you actually ridden the automatic yet?
SPEAKER_09Or no, they've got a demo in now at Ocean, so I might go and ride it. But I'll probably keep mine for another year at least.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_09I'm after the KLE. Kawasaki KLE 500, they're gonna bring out.
SPEAKER_10Hmm.
SPEAKER_09Because annoyingly, I quite like the 450 GS they're gonna bring out. The 450 BMW one.
SPEAKER_00It doesn't look like a lot of things.
SPEAKER_09But they're already telling me that um it doesn't come with spoke wheels because they've got a supply issue. So they're only come with cast cast wheels, which is good really for our news.
SPEAKER_01What's the price of the 450 compared to the KLE?
SPEAKER_09Uh they're all the same price range. They're all like um, yeah. So if you buy the lower range BMO, I think it's like seven, KLE's seven. The KLE SE, I think it's seven nine. The BMO is seven nine. I think the 450, the 450 Himalayan 7, is it something like that? The standard. So they're all pretty much the same price.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, right. I I thought the Himalayan was six, about six three now, wasn't it? Six four.
SPEAKER_09Oh, maybe six three then, but they're all pretty much the same, depending on how you spec them out.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, a lot of people were going on about the the Vosh uh 900 as well, aren't they? Oh, we saw it looked pretty good.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it did look all right actually.
SPEAKER_09Yeah, I've got to say it's not something all we worried about that support from you know when you break down or whatever might happen. Exactly.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, because I know they have got supply issues. It's just why why why is it? Why are they launching bikes? And you can't get them for months, but yeah, say banks.
SPEAKER_09Yeah, but probably the thing isn't it. I want to launch a bike and see how popular it is, and then I'll open up a distribution network. Otherwise, if it's not very well presented or people don't take it, I've spent all that money on our distribution centers, and there's a waste of money potentially. That's the way I see it.
SPEAKER_00But the thing is that it's also pissing people off because people are putting down the deposits like the CF Motor 450, and then it's taken months, if not a year, to get older them, and even then it's not guaranteed, and then they're getting their deposit back, so it's a double-edged sword, isn't it?
SPEAKER_09Yeah, just yeah.
SPEAKER_00Someone I know has just bought a band from 350, promised it in September, went to October, November, now January, and he still hasn't seen it yet.
SPEAKER_01Wow.
SPEAKER_09So that's like a you know, that's like a death by a thousand cups instead of saying to you, uh, you'll have to wait another four months, like just keep you on the hook, yeah, next week, next week, next week.
unknownYeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_09And all you do is piss people off, don't you? If you said right it's four months' time, I'll make a decision then whether I don't want it or carry on wait four months or whatever it might be.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, makes no sense to me. It's all it's all different, everything's um still a mess, isn't it? In this country, many different things. We won't go down that road. Seems to be getting getting worse, doesn't it? It seems to be getting worse, to be honest. No light at the end of the tunnel. Nightmare. But anyway, yeah, apart from that, at least we've got bikes. You what, mate?
SPEAKER_07So our tunnel shut every night here.
SPEAKER_01Oh, right, right, yeah, yeah. Is that to stop anyone escaping from Cornwall?
SPEAKER_09No, to stop the demo shows coming in.
SPEAKER_00Uh Mark from Tor Bay, if you could have any three bikes, what would you have? Right. Oh god. Mark, start with you. Because it changes every week, doesn't it anyway?
SPEAKER_01Any three bikes? Jesus. Um I don't know. Oh wow, come back to me on that one or I have to think a minute. Money, no object.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, don't know. Um I think I'm there really. The classic 500 MLA and the V strong. I don't know, I quite fancy a big four thing.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Yeah. Quack of four fourteen hundreds. There you go.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00I do quite like those. For me, it's gonna be RT 1300, uh Rocket Three Rocket. I can't remember what else. No, I've I can only do two at the moment.
SPEAKER_01The the RT, I've got to say, the RT is yeah, if I if money was no object, I'd go and get one of those new ones. Yeah, yeah. I mean that you know, as you guys know, I I had the old um 1150 and I'm missing it. It was such a good bike, even though it was old. That uh oh yeah, if I could go and get a new one, that'd be great.
SPEAKER_00Good choice. Keith and Kim? Kim.
SPEAKER_09I'll go first because Kim probably won't know me that's there's one bike that I quite like.
SPEAKER_05Was it the Patty Deville or something?
SPEAKER_09Yeah, the DeVille.
SPEAKER_05I quite like that one.
SPEAKER_09Not the Honda.
SPEAKER_05No, the Patty.
SPEAKER_09Not a DeVille. What was it called? That big 1300 or 1200 they did as a sort of I quite like that one. Monster of a thing.
SPEAKER_05Was it big? Was it a dump?
SPEAKER_02Something like that, yeah. Yeah, it's a weird name, isn't it?
SPEAKER_00I don't know which one that is. I don't know much about decays.
SPEAKER_08I know what Eve wants.
SPEAKER_05He wants everything.
SPEAKER_08He wants GS, medium GS, and a little GS.
SPEAKER_06He wants a family's GS.
SPEAKER_09Uh I wouldn't mind the um Patty V4 um sports bike uh as a as a posing bike. I couldn't ride it to it six, and then some sort of um small bike to do a bit of off-roading if we can, because that's what I want to get into.
SPEAKER_00Actually, I'm gonna make that my third one. Actually, it's gonna be uh CRF 300s.
SPEAKER_08Oh Peter Hutchinson's got the name of the Ducati, isn't it? Yeah, oh Diable, that's the one.
SPEAKER_01Dive Owl Thank you, Peter. Dive, that's the owl, is it?
SPEAKER_05Diable, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Alright.
SPEAKER_05It's quite nice.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_05If I came in for money, I'd probably um I'd probably get that. What's that the catty monster?
SPEAKER_02That's Lily's coming with that. And the Augusta.
SPEAKER_09Augusta. How much is that McPherson though? 44,000? How much? 44,000.
SPEAKER_00Silly money. But that's a sort of mantelpiece spike, isn't it? If you like that sort of thing, but not for me. Bye bye Lily. Bye-bye. Bye-bye Livy. Bye-bye. Uh we are now getting to that point of having to say goodbye. It's been an hour of um of um it's been like nothing else ever had before. And it's brilliant because you guys are exactly like you are in real life. So that's exactly what I wanted. Well done. Well done for that. Well done for that.
SPEAKER_09Uh when you pay the fee, um Dave. Pardon? When do you pay our fee?
SPEAKER_00Fee? Um just send your address. Okay.
SPEAKER_05Mark, somebody told David Hawkins has said set up straight.
SPEAKER_01Dave, Mr. Dave. Is that Mr. Dave?
SPEAKER_05Is that Mr. Dave? Dave Hawkins.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that's Mr. Dave, I'm Dave. He's trouble. He's trouble. He is on the trouble. He is trouble. He's keep leading me out on the bad path.
SPEAKER_06Do you know what your mark and Mr.
SPEAKER_08Dave do in the summer when I'm sweating my ass off in a welding day? They send me photos of beautiful places on motors.
SPEAKER_01It does. Jeff will like to see that, wouldn't he? I went, Oh, yeah, brilliant. Yes, we'll send you that. We sit, we sit there chuckling, waiting for your reply.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Okay, guys, thanks very much for coming on, anyway. Um, just so everybody knows, we've got uh time to go live in a minute on Todge 29 with Steve and uh Flat Cap Cafe Racer and a few other people as well, no doubt. Um, so get yourself over there if uh if you want to watch some more entertainment. Um, it's certainly been entertainment having you lot on. Thanks very much for that. You made it easy for me, and I'm not feeling uh tip top condition at the moment after my cold. But uh yeah, thanks very much for that. And um, thank you, Kim. Thanks for that. I feel much better. Um so no doubt. What's that? You're talking to you, Mark. Oh, sorry, I missed that.
SPEAKER_05I said Markley, he'd be strong as an ox, then.
SPEAKER_01Oh god, yeah, he won't be wussing about having a pissing cold, would he?
SPEAKER_00Thanks everybody.
SPEAKER_06Hello, Archie.
SPEAKER_04Thank you, guys.
SPEAKER_00Where is he?
SPEAKER_01We're still trying to summons his dog by the look of it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I can get the dog in. My dog goes nuts if he sees another dog. Um yeah, thanks everybody for coming in. Um, I would say that Jeff is gonna be the winner for that uh round on uh on the thing. Um, although Kim had the bonus points for the WD 40. She's absolutely right there. Um thanks very much for coming in.
SPEAKER_08That's how he stops ease squeaking every time he goes to his wallet.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah. Thanks, Peter Hutchinson, Mike from Torbay, the old man GB Patriot, Lily Northover, contented biker, anti-GSA tractor Dawkins, um Rev Bomb, uh Howie as well was in Flap Cap Cafe Racer. You might be over on Cime to Go's show in a minute as well. Pete Hutchinson, um, been great having you all here. Thanks to everybody who made an effort coming in for the quiz as well. Uh, Mark, Jeff, Heath, Kim, and uh, and my good self, of course. Thanks a lot, and we will see you on the next live. Cheers. Bye bye.
