Hello beloveds and welcome back to another episode of Queerly Beloved. In today's episode, I'm chatting with the Luminist Joel Collier, an energy intuitive practitioner and multimedia artist. You might know Joel as the lead vocalist of the synthpop duo doll muscle. And you'll love where Joel's headed now into the soil and soul, studying sustainability with a focus on home construction and permaculture. In Radical Fairy Space, they go by old magic, and the two of us got to be co-directors of a ritual theater piece this past summer at a fairy sanctuary in Vermont. Prior to this conversation, I got to receive an energetic healing session from Joel that was super profound and helpful. And so that experience actually has a bit of an anchor for this insightful conversation you're about to hear. And in this conversation, we begin by geeking out on the chakra system, going through the seven main ones and chatting about their attributes. We then move on to a discussion about working with spirit guides and how to do that in effective ways. And we explore what it means to connect with our queer ancestry. We also explore sincerity as a spiritual superpower and the voice as a tuning fork for the body. We also explore how harmony and color sound and daily ritual helps us walk our highest path with more ease, more truth, and more joy. So get ready to get super woo as we welcome Joel to the pod. Welcome, my dear one. How are you? Welcome to Queerly Beloved.
SPEAKER_00Hello, dear Will. Uh, thank you for having me. So happy to be here today with you.
SPEAKER_02So happy to have you and so excited that you are doing this from our dear friend Shelty's place and this fabulous background. It's so fitting for you. It's so perfect. I'm so excited to jump into this conversation. There's so many things I can't wait to drop in about. But before we do that, I want to ask you the question I ask all my interview subjects at the top of the interview, which is who are you in this moment? But tell me by describing a drag avatar that embodies that. So you can take a moment, breathe into it, and the drag avatar can be anything. It can be, you know, something uh from nature or it can be something from drag race, whatever speaks to you.
SPEAKER_00Okay. Um, I'm seeing a um kind of like dragon reptile receptionist. And she has like a bob like that kind of comes in. Um with and her like bangs are clipped up. Um she has some some glasses for reading, some bangles, and uh yeah, she's kind of like in the middle of her uh morning taking calls and just you know, kind of dialed in and uh yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yes, yes. I'm I'm sensing her with us for sure. Does that indicate anything around where you're at in this moment? Anything you want to share around why that might be the case today?
SPEAKER_00Um as to why she's like uh some sort of lizard, I'm not sure. I know that I spent two days at the beach this weekend, and I'm probably gonna spend as many days as I can before the summer's over. Sun to meet Pip. Yeah, maybe that's why. Um, and I the I kind of in the last couple days, I really felt the like shift into Virgo finally. Um, so I'm I'm really feeling um uh an eagerness uh to kind of be at my my desk um figuring out my calendar and uh coordinating and and creating bridges and checking in and and all of that. Taking calls.
SPEAKER_02Okay, Virgo Dinosaur Receptionist. Right? You better serve. Beautiful. Okay, now let me check in. Yeah, I'm I'm vibing with some kind of like sparkly green uh emerald um like this emerald being of light. Um and in part it's because I was at the I was leaving the gym today and I had this, I have a really beautiful sparkly cup that I keep my cold brew in. And it's like pokey, actually. It's very lizard y now that I think about it. And it's bright and shiny. And this guy who had just done the workout was like, oh, I love your coffee cup. I'm like, he's like, it's so sparkly. And I was like, thanks. And he's like, it matches your personality. And I was like, oh, thank you. Thank you for seeing me. This like random straight guy who's bro, you know, Jim bro. Thank you for seeing me. And yeah, and that quality resonates with me today. This kind of like ready to sparkle, ready to shine, ready to be in this fresh energy of creation. Um, that that I see in that that jewel. So yeah, she's kind of she is an emerald, right? Is emerald green? I'm thinking of the correct jewel. Yeah, so she is an emerald, but she also she's like an emerald personified. So her like I think that there's other colored emerald uh emeralds, but emerald is predominantly the Korean emerald. Okay, good to know. Good to know. So she's she's like an emerald personified, so she's like an emerald, but in the shape of this like feminine uh lady who's just like working the runway. Yeah. Nice. I will say though, uh, right after that moment, I grabbed a shirt from the back of my car, and it was like a piece that I was gonna sell to a thrift store, and I was like, oh yeah, I'm gonna get rid of this piece. I grabbed it just because I wanted something warm to wear when I went to the coffee shop. And uh I was re-listening to our session, which we're gonna get into, uh energetic uh session. And one of the pieces that you shared with me was around indigo and this you were sensing that I was needing to bring some indigo into my life. And at the end of my time at the coffee shop, I was like, you know what? I kind of want to keep this shirt for some reason. I don't want to sell it to the thrift store. And the funny thing was I didn't know exactly what indigo that color was. And I Googled it and and it was the shirt. Like the shirt is indigo, and I was like, oh well, yeah, that's kind of perfect. I love that.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's always little things that come up after sessions, it's so fun.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, these little these little winks from spirit, these little uh nods to yeah, we got you. This is all lining up. So yeah. Um, so yeah, I'm excited to share about that session and you kind of use that as a framework for some of what we discussed today, but why don't we start by you sharing a little bit about what energetic intuitive work is and what drew you into it?
SPEAKER_00Okay. Let's see if I can give the uh super fast um uh story about my foray into it. Um I uh knew this wonderful woman, Michelle Malman, um, when I was a host at the Tribe Hotel back in like 2009, she was a cocktail waitress. Um back forward to her um uh becoming a holistic nutritionist, she moved back to Southern California and um so energy work as um I practice it is uh broad spectrum, um intuitive and often uh guided uh like meditative process. Um and it is ultimately working with your um energy body, your chakra system uh to uh find practical ways, either in the moment or through sort of like daily uh patterns and behaviors, establishing those to your chakra system, your energy system. That is a super like simplified version way to describe it because it is when I say broad spectrum, I mean it's almost infinite where it can go, um, which is really exciting and fun. Um that's essentially energy work through how I practice it. And then uh how I entered it was through a dear friend, Michelle Malman. We had worked together forever ago. Um, I was a little host boy and she was a cocktail waitress um downtown Manhattan. Fast forward to her becoming a hallution uh holistic nutritionist. Um, and I had worked with her, and that was my first experiencing energy work. It was long distance over the phone, and the first time we really went into that sort of landscape, it blew my mind. I was like, what is this? Um, and then eventually through her um mentorship and and schooling, uh uh based out of Sacramento, um, this wonderful uh uh teacher named Area Magdalene, who's also a practitioner, um, I I was referred to that and uh got my first certification in 2018 um in energy intuitive work, which is energy intuitive is is a new way of saying what psychics used to be. Um it's just a very different like school of thought. Um, our work exists for different purposes. Um, you know, we're not we're not focusing on mediumship or like when you're gonna find your boyfriend or like how to win the lottery. Although I don't want to reduce psychic work to that either, but like there is like a big difference in kind in in in methodology and ideology.
SPEAKER_02Like from what you're saying, it feels like the psychic work is like more focused on form and specifics, perhaps. And the energetic work is bigger picture, it's broader strokes that serve us to uh be in alignment to receive the forms or to step into our highest path and to walk this divine path that is meant for us. I mean, that's what I received from it. Um about like this is gonna happen then, you know, this kind of right.
SPEAKER_00And I I also tell uh clients that it's it's uh I am also offering you tools for self-therapy, you know. You don't always you're you're getting um uh methods that you can use on your own as well, which is is great.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, which is super helpful. Yeah, I received so many points of wisdom and valuable practical things that I'm getting to incorporate into my practice. Um, so one of the big pieces that you mentioned is this piece around the chakra system. And I don't think I've spoken too extensively at all about chakras on this podcast. So I'm just I'd love for you to share your idea of chakras, like what what are they? What what and maybe how do you like to work with them?
SPEAKER_00So without getting too much into like ancient origins and in eastern uh mysticism and traditions, um, which is where you would go, uh uh the origins of like um uh discovering the chakra system. Um we work, uh I work predominantly with the seven chakras, um, which if we're starting at the at the ground is the root level, the sacral, the solar plexus, the heart, the throat, the third eye, and the crown. Um now there are many that extend into uh higher vibration, uh, but traditionally that's that's like very advanced work, and usually that's being done on an unconscious level and not really what you're working with because it's kind of beyond the physical, if that makes any sense.
SPEAKER_02Would those be above the crown? These other energy well, okay, cool.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah. Um, supposedly there's like 30 or or more or like something crazy like that. So um, but yeah, so those chakras are focal points within your energy body, and they all carry their own themes. Um, and it it sort of like lessens um and they encompass uh different um almost like impulses as well uh within uh the your potentials as a human.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, beautiful. I love hearing about it as impulses and yeah, your potential as a human and your to me, the the chakra work is often about setting ourselves up to yeah, to walk our highest path, to be the greatest expression of who we are and how we're meant to show up. And so I I just want to share, maybe we'll talk through them together, but I want to share sort of my impression of each of them. So the root, the theme for me is and what I understand is uh basic needs. Like your basic needs are met. You've got like food, shelter, you you are you are rooted and grounded in safety, and you just feel like you've got a foundation of I'm okay. I've got what I need to be alive and to move through this world. Is that accurate or is that how you're precisely? Yes, cool. I agree with that. Yeah, and then that one is like that. I feel like you described it as like a deep red, like a or like an earth tone, actually. Okay.
SPEAKER_00Yes, earth tones are accurate for that. Uh and it really depends on the person and where they're at in their life that day, or maybe they're in like a phase. Um, and again, as as you experience to a degree, you can change that in a session. Um, you can bring more openings or change, change the color. Um yeah, uh through bringing awareness and and different uh intention um and flow of energy into those place uh spaces.
SPEAKER_02Cool. Yeah, I've heard it as red typically, and I kind of just see it as the rainbow is like the easy way for me to remember it, but the earth tones really resonated for me when you shared that. And so I'm kind of starting to work with more of like a earthy, like almost like clay kind of colors. And then when I'm meditating with them or sharing a meditation, I imagine them as uh spinning circles of light, like almost like a yeah, this like spinning thing, spinning clockwise um in that color.
SPEAKER_00Precisely, yeah. A lot of people work with them um as being in motion, yeah. Um yeah. Uh and they have a front and a back and a left and a right, um energy energy working towards the back and extending at the back typically is connected um very directly to a past life, but that's a whole other conversation. Oh, cool. Um, but yeah, in in uh regards to what you were saying about uh the like earth tones, I one meditation I I do sometimes with people is kind of taking a subterranean approach to the root, and you discover like a cave system and you go in and you build like this home down there, and and it's all kind of guided through um uh what your uh intuitive uh how you kind of build it out in the meditation for yourself. You kind of create a home and a safe place within the like underground of your root chakra.
SPEAKER_02Oh, I love that. Yeah, that feels so nurturing to that part of us that just wants to feel safe and wants to feel like we can move freely through this world and have our needs met. Um, so then moving to the sacral, uh, that what I often describe it as as like creativity and sexuality and passion. What other words or themes? Yeah, beauty and pleasure, yeah, pleasure, yeah. And it's orange usually, like is that yeah, okay. Yes, and then we move up to solar plexus, and sacral's kind of at the groin, yeah. Yeah, yeah, okay. Solarplexes at the stomach or like belly button, the and it'd be like more like yellowish, and then I describe it as like um personal power, independence, um the seat of ambition. Ooh, the seat of ambition. Yeah, I feel like in the session, maybe you talked about it being uh the starting point where we initiate from.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and I mean the seat of ambition can can work for some people, but it can also kind of like have a capitalistic lean. So, you know, we all we want to be aware of those things, but yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, but I love that this like impulse of like I'm gonna do this, I'm gonna, yeah, the the creativity comes below, and then it's like now the action happens, um, like almost like warrior energy. Um, and then like, yeah, and also um, yeah, something around independence, like being able to move through the world from this independent place.
SPEAKER_00There is this sense of like individualism. And to uh refer, we were talking before we started a session of my uh friend Jeff Henshaw that you've recently gotten in touch with, uh, who um has done work talking about how different cities resonate at different chakras and how New York City, where I'm at right now, is the third chakra, the seat of interesting.
SPEAKER_02Interesting. What is New Orleans?
SPEAKER_00New Orleans is sacral.
SPEAKER_02Sacral, cool, that makes sense.
SPEAKER_00I can't remember most of them, but yeah, two examples, um, because you can really feel it when you're in those cities.
SPEAKER_02But yeah, anyways. I love that. Thanks for sharing that piece. Okay, so then moving up to the heart chakra at the center of the chest, usually I seeing it as green or like a bright lime kind of green. In fact, I feel like maybe you were describing it in more of like a lime um tone, and that it's uh yeah, the heart chakra, the the place of love, of um uh let's see, compassion. Um, I've also heard like respect and honor there.
SPEAKER_00Right. And it and it can also essentially there's through my training, uh, we also call it it within the heart chakra is the sacred heart, which is um almost like your your soul's your body's um heart mind. Like it's you you kind of um you can develop your sacred heart to tune into your intuition more as like a whole-bodied answer. Um, yeah, we can get into the sacred heart, but that's yeah.
SPEAKER_02Well, that's fabulous. So is that separate from the heart chakra? Is that another component to it almost? It's it's it's another component to it. Yeah. Cool. Yeah, I'm remembering from our session when I was seeing this heart with this arrow through it, and I feel like you were kind of bringing that up. And yeah, it's interesting because a lot of my work with my retreats with the gay men is about connecting with the heart. And I I'd like to explore that sacred heart stuff more at some point.
SPEAKER_00Right, which ultimately means moving through a lot of uh releasing a lot of heartache, you know, yeah, and a lot of stories we've we like still have about uh the heart and what we've been through as gay men.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, absolutely. And it makes sense to me that there would be access to the sacred heart or the this this the spiritual heart of who we are would come through connecting with the heart, coming through the the self-love and just connecting with the energy of love can be a doorway into connecting with the with our soul, essentially. Right.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I guess you could you you start to think of like love, another term that some people use for God or source is love, like the source of all love. So it's there's an energy that is is really um has a lot to it.
SPEAKER_02That's an understatement, but yeah, yeah. Well, beautiful. Okay, then throat chakra, um, voice, like using your voice, your words, casting spells through sentences and and declarations. Uh anything I'm missing there.
SPEAKER_00Uh no. That's that's that's pretty good.
SPEAKER_02Um what's the color there?
SPEAKER_00It's turquoise.
SPEAKER_02Turquoise? Yeah. Yeah. I mean I often say blue, but I like turquoise.
SPEAKER_00It's uh it has this like a unique way it connects to other chakras too as humans, in that it it it it can through through the throat chakra, we can voice, like really tangibly voice what we're experiencing in other chakras, which is a unique thing as well.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah. And by doing that, it can help shift the energy, it can help move the energy, yeah.
SPEAKER_00And strengthen the throat as it's doing that.
SPEAKER_02Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Beautiful. Uh, and then of course, third eye, you know, in between the eyebrows at the top ridge of your nose. And I uh was that indigo or is that purple for in your in your world? I I think it's either or. Yeah, okay, yeah, yeah. That makes sense. Because per indigo is almost like a purpley blue, yeah. So it moves into that purpley color, and that's like vision, imagination.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, we um one of the things through my training, um, that's like an activation, uh, is you you put your tongue at the roof of your mouth and like do uh like deep breathing, and you kind of you ignite and you witness this violet flame igniting. So and it kind of it lights up behind the third eye, and that's part of this like activation to hone into uh vision, intuitive vision. Um so yeah, like violet, purple um in the third eye.
SPEAKER_02I love that. Yeah, it's so wild to me when I notice my third eye open. I mean, obviously, with the help of like plant medicines, like it can be really, really open, you know. Like I've got my eyes closed and I'm like seeing the most incredible movie or image ever. But then there's sometimes where I'm not in plant medicine and I'm able to close my eyes and like see stuff, and I'm like, whoa, that's cool. You know, there's there's such magic to that.
SPEAKER_00And it's sometimes the seeing isn't necessarily imagery, sometimes it's a knowing. Sometimes you're you're third eye being an intuitive knowing. Um, like you you get like a blurb or a paragraph about something or those little nudges. Um, and I feel that that's that is kind of like a a third eye intuitive receptive uh moment happening as well.
SPEAKER_02Oh, I love that. Okay, cool. I've never considered it outside of the visual. Cool. So then and then the crown chakra kind of right above the head, and this is like the bridgeway to the divine, yeah, like a beautiful crown. Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Um, which is uh a good place to be bring awareness to because um sometimes if you if you don't if it's just really, really open and receptive, um, it it can bring sort of like uh an overwhelm of messages, um, almost like a an energy leak. Um, and that's not something to be like worried about, but like um it's just it's important to be mindful of all uh the chakra system when you're doing when you're really going into intentional uh work. Um but it is uh a like a beautiful point of like bringing in like a column of of of energy of breath uh through down through the chakra system. That's that's often how I like to guide clients uh initially.
SPEAKER_02That it comes through the crown and down and up. Beautiful. Yeah, I appreciate you saying that about being mindful around the openness. And I'd say perhaps that applies to all the chakras, because I feel like there's an idea of oh, we all we want them all to be as open as possible all the time. And that isn't necessarily I mean, yes, that'd be beautiful if we could walk through the world like that and everybody was walking through the world like that, you know, peace on earth, like thriving society. That being said, um, there is some some merit in being mindful of if this is open, if my third eye is super open, like you know, what does that mean? And how can I be mindful of my actions or my heart is super open? How you know, is is it safe to have it this open with with each of the chakras, I imagine. Right.
SPEAKER_00And is it necessary, you know, like um, because sometimes depending on the person, and this is happening uh, you know, according to most practitioners, more and more people's clairs, claire audience, clairvoyance, clairsentients are coming online, um, in in a greater sense, yeah, um, without even trying, people who aren't really exposed to this kind of thing. So, like, let's say you have uh for whatever reason, uh your your third eye is like super open, um, which doesn't typically happen, but it it could. Um sometimes like um people who are very empathetic, that is sort of a way that they're experiencing it, although it's more visceral. Like, do you really need to know how the person in the corner of the room is feeling if it's not relevant? Sure. You know, so just being aware of boundaries um and and honoring and what you need in the moment because that's that's how you can best honor what other people need.
SPEAKER_02Oh, thank you. I love that. So, yeah, thanks for entertaining that exploration through the chakra system. Yeah, I found that helpful, I imagine. It will be helpful for a lot of listeners too. And yeah, you know, one of the things that was so cool in our session is that you were seeing these like orbs of light in different connected to different chakra areas. And I'm just curious about what it's like for you to see or sense energy in your clients. I that might be a hard thing to talk about, but uh whatever you want to share. Cool.
SPEAKER_00Hello. Um, so I do again, I don't know if that's like that is something that I learned through my training, and I'm not very familiar with like other like schools of of thought or practice, but I see um points of light. They like you're saying, they are typically orbs um of different sizes, um, different colors uh in a person's chakra system. Um and it is in a much lighter sense, uh similar to I I use the the example of Chinese medicine to people. It's for them to understand that there's kind of like meridians, and if it's on the left, it means one thing. If it's on the right, it means one thing. If it's like left back, you know, that means something as opposed to the front. Um, so there is like um some like positioning uh knowledge to be had. But as you experience, it's it's a living energy that's happening, almost like a signature um uh happening, and you can ask it questions um because we're in this like open uh intuitive space that I I typically do my work long distance, which is also just so fun to be doing such intimate work, but long distance. It it really gets you to start understanding the quantum uh aspect of this work, um, which as science and humanity gets more quantum understanding online, this work also expands within that. Uh yeah. But um, yeah, so I see these orbs of light and they they you can ask them questions. Um, you know, it's it's with with the quickness, you know, it's like you're asking and and you can get, and this is where it's open to you as well. Um, and we did a lot of this in your session, which was so fun, and and hearing what you were receiving from the questions we were asking and kind of going back and forth with with the different answers that we got. Um, in my training, we would have several people in a session. So it'd be so cool to have like three people looking at one person. Wow, and all of us give these answers. Um I was also in a group of like globally of psychics where we would look at questions and there'd be like two dozen people offering their own like answers independently. So there's there's a lot of development there.
SPEAKER_02Beautiful. Yeah, and I think a helpful piece around that is really getting out of the right or wrong binary and recognizing that this is all about information. So it's not about having the right answer or being afraid of getting the wrong answer, it's about receiving the information that is coming through and then discerning what is helpful, what is not, and just basically mining for gold. Like what is the the what valuable uh messages can we receive through this practice of curiosity and trust?
SPEAKER_00Precisely. And that's that's part of it coming into it with an intention and also me having like a clear vessel, like a vessel of sobriety. Um, and um, there's certain things too. I like don't have caffeine within a certain amount of time, like there's there's a lot of things I do on my end, but coming in with that intention of not, I don't I have to find out answers. It's like, no, whatever is there and wants to be revealed and is pertinent for you is what we'll get. Um, and to to what you're saying as well, I might get like sentences, you know, more practical information for the the query. And the person that's receiving the session might just get a color or a feeling as an answer. And that is equally that's that's really valuable because that that is whatever Claire is coming online, they're they're receiving a message that way. So I keep an open line of communication when we're asking questions.
SPEAKER_02Beautiful. What about guides? In what ways are you working with guides with your clients? Or yeah, let's just talk about guides a little bit because that was coming through in my session. I don't know if that's typical or yeah, I'd love to hear about guides.
SPEAKER_00Um, I do ask for it. I do it's standard for me to ask for uh the assistance of guides um that uh would like to be present um uh for myself and the client. Um and that is something I kind of like gauge beforehand just to know, hey, I'm gonna be, you know, referring to things as like a soul. And like there are these like ideas that I work with in that I just want to make sure that a client is comfortable with that.
SPEAKER_01Sure.
SPEAKER_00Um uh but yeah, guides, the idea is that you have them, and there's many different kinds. Um, they could be a guide that has lived with you in a body in the past, it could be some somebody that's a master, which is a more ascended guide. It could there's there's really a full spectrum of of the types of guides. They could be temporary, they could be somebody who's been with you for many lives. Um, and uh typically somebody will show up. And sometimes uh family or uh ancestral lineage, really any people of with benevolent intention um uh might show up in a session.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, beautiful. Yeah, one of my teachers once, when we were working with ancestors, recommended for me in that time period anyway, to when I'm calling them in to use that word benevolent, to to recognize that there might be some ancestors that I don't need to be hanging out right now, you know, to calling in those that are benevolent and and ready to to work with me in a good way and and help my path.
SPEAKER_00Um yeah, that's that's part of like how we were talking before about like having like a sort of like unconscious openness, like it is um, you know, it's again such an expansive energy that we're working in that encompasses everything, if you really get down to it, what we can access so or or what might be pertinent to you in a session. So always coming into it, understanding that we're only working with benevolent energies, because there's a lot, especially on earth, there's a lot of trickster energy. Um, and again, like if I'm not doing my work right and coming into the session crunchy, like I could welcome in um a lack of clarity, yeah, you know. Um and that could just be me even like trying to find answers, but like, um, which is another sort of like interference. But um yeah, there's a lot of trickster energy, you know. Um, and I don't I can't I can't really speak to much of that within sessions because I don't I really do have such a structured um uh entrance into this work uh every time. But yeah, that happens. That's an example of how it happens for people who maybe don't have the like most um uh encouraging, benevolent energies bringing into something like, oh, somebody's plotting to destroy, you know. A lot of people work with that of like somebody's trying to betray you, someone's jealous of you, you know. Once they start going into that stuff, it's like what's going on, yeah. Anyways, uh thanks for that.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, sidetrack. So uh well, so speaking of ancestral work, uh I'd love to talk about queer ancestry and and how that comes into play and specifically around uh how the queer ancestors might be, I don't know, uh helping us currently living queers uh be moving this queer message forward. I'm curious if you have any thoughts around around working with the queer ancestors, around what it means to be a part of an ancestral queer heritage.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so it's that's something that is ongoing work for me. Um, I do have more connection through my mother's lineage. Cool. Uh, although I'm not entirely clear on the the queer aspect of it. I do perhaps have one that's come up in sessions with other uh worker uh energy intuitives. Um but my father's lineage is something that's like slowly being uncovered. Um it's taking some work. We we don't know very much about my dad's lineage. Um I would say without, you don't have to have concrete evidence of a person.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um, so that's important because a lot of us don't. Um uh, you know, if your family immigrated here in the last hundred years and changed their name, there's not much you're gonna know. Um but I'd say maybe coming through a meditative process, if you feel called to that, if that feels something like relevant and poignant for you, um in through meditation or through ultra altar building, call in the sweetness of that energy and the support and um being seen. Um, because as queer individuals, um we do, you know, with any marginalized community, you're going through a specific set of obstacles. Yeah. Um, and they range from irritating to dangerous. Um, so I think having somebody who uh is in your corner, if you feel guided to that, if that feels something that's like there and wants you to know about it, I think altar work and through meditative practices and saying, hey, if you want to show me a sign that you're here and you're you you care about my life and what I'm doing and you want to support or just lend your love, like give me, you know, it there's ways to be more um specific with asking for signs um for all kinds of things, but you can be like, show me a word, something that I will know, show you know, say show my name somewhere today, but like you know, little things like that.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and those are cool little invitations that they can really support us in cultivating more faith and cultivating more trust and more knowing, so that then you know, yes, perhaps it's also bringing their energy more into presence, but I think in part it's doing that because it's helping our human egoic mind recognize that there is some evidence, and so then we're just being more present to their presence. We're like, oh yeah, they're really here, and then but because we're in that space, we get to we we get influenced by their presence more, we allow that influence to to take place more profoundly.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and we still are in such a revolutionary stage uh as queer people, as queer humans, um in in most society world. Um, so uh yes, there's big advances, and uh I I think that if they are showing up for you, um, they're certainly very proud of you. Um and uh yeah, it can only can only be helpful.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah. And and in my vantage point, they yes, they absolutely it's exciting and cool when they are from our actual blood lineage, but I also imagine that there's queer ancestors that aren't from my actual birth family, but are still showing up because they're you know, they're like, okay, let's let's be hanging out with this queer and support them in carrying this lineage, carrying these messages that maybe we were already starting to uh carve out and do these gifts that we were already starting to share. But let's be with this queen and see how they do it and help continue it forward.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I I I think in my own experience, I've I feel like I've had moments uh where I I experience the concept of like a super soul or like uh I almost I kind of I say I give them sainthood, um uh like uh uh Freddie Mercury or like like different people. Um and I feel like it it there is potential for people like them to understand when somebody is walking steps or I don't know. I that's in my this is very private for me because I'm sharing that, but like I have had experiences where I very much felt like the energy come and it and it was just very encouraging and uplifting. One of my personal saints is Frida Kahlo. Um yeah, I mean she she was queer to a degree, absolutely. Um but uh yeah, there's I I I do in my experience uh believe that that there is connectivity there.
SPEAKER_02Beautiful, yeah. And continuing down that thread, when we think about queers from the past, uh having these gifts and sharing these specific messages or um enacting these specific sacred duties, what do you imagine some of the themes are um from the past or more specifically in today, today's world that we as queer folks are meant to be bringing through?
SPEAKER_00Themes that we as queer folks are are bringing through.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, gifts in the standard messages. Yeah, what any thoughts?
SPEAKER_00I know it's a big question, but no, I feel I I feel like um there's something to be said about the the uh embodiment of truth um and uh the way that love and shared joy and an individual joy expresses itself um is still it always has been, but a very very influential aspect of who we are as sorry, can you say it one more time? It always has been, but it always has been, but still is this very influential aspect of who we are as queer individuals, this like embodiment of of our own truth and our own joy, um, and how we express ourselves um in that way. Uh and this kind of like uh kindness in the face. And this this there's certain degrees that it exists for other people as well, but we exist in such an immediate opposition to like one of the biggest uh considered like people are straight. That's what they are, you know. Like we're we're in such an opposition to that like big thing that a lot of people think is some sort of um scientific fact. Sure. Um, so we're we're we're kind of always embodying that, but we we do have this ability to wake people up to really give people like this light at the end of the tunnel in their own lives because there's so many other things that people fall into in society that somehow have their root in the fact that everyone's just born straight.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02That's so good. Yeah, I'm seeing us queer folks as Beacons of truthful light in the face of a society telling us how it's supposed to be, you know, in a society imposing uh oppressive forms of conformity. And in the face of that, we get to represent, model, and be inspirational embodiments of no, this is who I am, and who I am is a joyful expression of love. Yeah. You know, so you can't you can't say anything else because I'm doing it, I'm showing it, I'm living it, you know, and that can be a real source of inspiration for those.
SPEAKER_00And often in the face of adversity, you know.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah, yeah. Beautiful. Yeah, thanks so much for sharing all that. So, yeah, and going down that that thread, that theme around creativity, I know that you are a brilliant artist and creator. And I'd love for you to share a little bit about your expression of creativity and perhaps how that might relate to your your spiritual life as well.
SPEAKER_00Um I I do enjoy being uh a multimedia artist, is what I said. Lor Laurie Anderson, there's this great video of her um uh talking about how that was her her way to enter to do whatever she wanted because she she was a video artist, she made music, she, you know, did more um all kinds of mediums. Um, and she was just like, it means nothing, but it gets people off your back. Um so yeah, uh what my creativity connected to my spirituality. Um, I think that's been something that's like a bridge that's been increasingly uh forged over the years with what I do. It's it's certainly, you know, intuitive. Um and it is connected often to curiosity and joy. Um, there's like it for certain things it can really just come down to uh like there's a color or there's a texture, and I just want to see more of it or I want to structure it, or or with music, with songwriting, um when I'm creating channel like channeling melody for something, vocal melody, it uh it really is about bringing harmony into something. So I think I think a lot of what I do within spirituality is about anchoring harmony. Um, because you know, in spirituality isn't about like self-improvement in like, and and you know this as well, in the sense of like you're adding something. It's it's self-improvement in the sense that you're you're polishing the gold that's already there. Um, so you're just bringing more harmony um and ease of flow to your core and who you are. Um, so creatively, I think that there is this like this through line of like seeking harmony, whether it's through color or through sound, um, or through creating an environment, like doing an installation and DJing and creating, because I've done a lot of event work um over the years, working in nightlife, creating queer spaces. Um, so it is always the sense of like bringing harmony in with like different levels of of tangible uh art work within those things. Yeah. And yeah, and bringing harmony to my own spiritual life. Beautiful.
SPEAKER_02If that made sense, yeah, it did absolutely. The word that was coming to mind was attunement, too. This word of attunement, and it also made me reflect back on the piece we were talking about earlier with the throat chakra being a tool to connect with the other chakras. So it's like our song can also ignite our heart center, which then gives us access to our soul, um, or our song can connect with our sacral, giving us more access to pleasure and sexuality, or our words can uh ignite something that opens our crown chakra. So just this idea of um creativity and the the use of voice and words and uh music that is then shaping the other aspects of self and bringing attunement to those aspects and yeah, creating that that harmony that you spoke of.
SPEAKER_00Absolutely. And and one one more piece about that is is the idea of sincerity. Um and and you know, sometimes harmony is discordant, yeah. Um, and understanding that within the same way as it is in spirituality, of like honoring what is coming up instead of saying, oh, this feels uncomfortable. I need to make it pretty. Like, no, like this is it's important and it's what's there, and that's what you need to look at and and honor the truth of that. And sometimes you're not going to have answers to move past it right away. And maybe, and that maybe that's exactly what you need. I mean, that that is what's there. So instead of pushing it away, um, whether it's art or in a spiritual sense, sincerity to the moment is really important because when you s once you start being insincere, it's over. Like it's not you, it's not coming from you. You're you're worried about this or that, the other, you're externalizing. So I think sincerity is a really important part of the connection between spirituality and art.
SPEAKER_02Beautiful. Yeah, that word feels so powerful the way that you're using it. And it also echoes back this piece around us queer folks being champions of truth, you know, and champions of sincerity in a way that that our work is to hone in on that sincerity so that we can be these beacons of truthful light in the world in a way that is most pure and most divinely orchestrated.
SPEAKER_00Yay.
SPEAKER_02Yay! Beautiful. So as we start to wind down here, uh, are there any final words, messages, anything you want to share um with the listeners today? Anything that wants to come through? This has already been so beautiful and uh full of nudgets.
SPEAKER_00It really has been. Thank you so much, Will. I am this platform to speak on with you. I think that uh I get a sense that there is a lot, there's gonna be a lot more people expanding into understanding their spirituality and like moving beyond what that word has held for them in the past, because spirituality can to a lot of people means dogma, sure, it means doctrine, it means Protestant religion, you know, it means a lot of these like heavier aspects. And spirituality is really just an honest awareness of who you are, all of you, um, and beyond the physical who you are, um, and where those two meet, you know. So uh I I really I I'm excited that this channel exists um for for other queers out there uh to listen um and to garner from and to see themselves in as well.
SPEAKER_02Thank you so much, and thank you for being a part of it. It feels very important. So thank you, my sister. Love you. Yeah, love you too. As always, such a pleasure to be with you all.
