Black Blood Heals
The Process of Bone Marrow Donation with Antonio Russell
Welcome back to Black Blood Heals. This week Tamara Weston is joined by Antonio Russell, a recent donor who’s here to tell his story from the day he joined the registry to the day he donated 26 years later. Tamara and Antonio are going to bust myths about donating as they talk about the procedure, cost of donating, and overall experience.
It’s 1996 and Antonio Russell has just graduated highschool. He joined the Be The Match registry at a drive for a local girl in his community though it was 26 years later when he got a call to donate for a young boy. His response to that call was a resounding “Yes, I will do whatever you need me to do.”
He has since become an advocate for Be The Match in his community, spreading awareness and offering kits to people who want to learn more and join the registry. This week’s episode is a beautiful reminder of how important it is for our communities to come together. Tune in to Antonio’s story and experience and don’t forget to visit bethematchblk.org to learn more–because it will take all of us to save one of us.
