Second Time Camping

So you went camping for the first time. Well done. Now get out there and do it again!

This week Ade and Tim talk about what camping for the first time teaches you so that camping the second time is even better. Look at what was a triumph and what was a struggle. What worked and what failed. Good choices and ones you shouldn't make again.

Every positive and negative from that first adventure will teach you how to make the second adventure even better.

Why not consider taking a newbie on your second camping trip. Believe us, you will look like a camping legend in their eyes. Who doesn't what that god-like feeling at least once. Or is that just Ade?!?

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Right now, you don't need a tent stove. It's um, and I know I still take it in the sun, summer just to just uh, you know, the nights can get cold in the UK. Actually, this week of all weeks, you know, I think it's 30 odd degrees in parts of the UK at the moment. It's um so wherever you are in the world, the UK right now is sunny and it's the place to be.

Yes, you know, mark that day. Doesn't happen too often here in the UK. Although I have had rain today, Tim.

Uh I have had uh the mother of all thunderstorms this morning at about 10 o'clock this morning. It was boom. I've been at work, and the wards were shaking with the thunder. So it was proper big. Wow. Chucked it down. Only rained for about 10 minutes though, and then it's that and that makes it worse because then it just gets really humid for the rest of the day, and it's just been like sticky and horrible.

We're never happy apart from camping. So let's talk about some camping. Uh, and we did say about stoves. Uh, longtime friend of the show, Richard, has just gone and bought himself a uh uh tent stove which he wants us to fit over the next week. Um uh when we go to LeVu on the farm.

How exciting's that? That's cool. I mean, it's nervous enough cutting holes in my own tent of mine, somebody else's, but you know, I'll give it a go after a couple of beers. I'll do anything after a couple of beers, to be honest.

Well, uh, we've said it before the tent stove isn't necessarily there for heat. Yeah, okay, it is in the winter, but it's there for looking cool.

Looking cool, yeah, it's for looking awesome, it's also for just looking at and modging with yeah, the proper grown-up boys' toys and girls' toys, obviously.

And girls' toys. But even when we were away the last time and you had your new belt hent out, somebody walked past and went, I like your setup. You know, they doffed their physical cap to you, and I was like a little bit envious, going, Yeah, mine's all right too, but I didn't get the uh the recognition.

So Rain Rain Mears complimented your setup. Oh, he drove past yours and actually said to everyone, the setups are looking really good this year. The one the ones I passed. Yours was the only one that he passed. Paul, I'm saying, you're you know, we look we looked cool as at the brushcraft show. We're gonna look great at LeVu. Um, we did draw the tickets. Um, so we've had one lucky winner's won two weekend tickets for for uh the whole of uh LeVu weekend. Um well done, you uh sorry to those that entered and didn't win. We uh we went old school, put every every entry into a hat and uh and pulled them out. And uh you can't not even I can mess that up.

It's no no, uh it was I saw the video, I know what was happening. The adju adjudicator was happy with the uh choice and everything went to plan. And if you're disappointed to not to win, we're really sorry. We wish we had tickets, but think on the bright side, LeVu on the farm is £40 a ticket for four nights. That is an excellent price, yeah.

So four pounds a beer on site, it's an excellent price, entertainment, music, talks, and we're gonna be there. So if you want to come and camp with Aiden Tim, come to LeVu on the farm. What more could you want for a bank holiday weekend?

I uh and it and it's the um hypothetical second time. We did first time camping. What do you what do you like? What do you know? Go back and find it if uh um you've not listened to that. How dare you not listen to it? But it's it is our run.

Oh, sorry, I was just gonna say the same thing. It is um it is our most downloaded episode. It's um it has legs beyond any other episode. It's uh it is out there, and uh, and this is kind of a follow-up, really, isn't it? Of of you know what you you've you've done you've done first time camping, now you're gonna do second-time camping. Yeah. So what does that mean?

Well, it kind of means that you want to go again. There's bits that you liked, there's probably bits that you didn't like, you know. And what are those things? You know, I mean, we talk about gear all the time, we talk about different sites, we talk about the same sites, you know. There's a lot of repetition that we've gone through. Uh, you know, uh, although we do love gear, we kept the same sort of gear for a long time, which you do, you know. It's only me in the last two years that have been changing up my tents quite often. Could always have more tents, though, couldn't I, Tim?

But the reality is uh you might have gone on that first one and you borrowed somebody's tent. So you might actually be out there looking for a tent yourself.

Yeah, yeah. You know, and that and that's the thing. You know, we we've said so many times that every camping trip teaches you something for the next one. But to go from that first one where hopefully, you know, you've enjoyed it enough that you want to go again, the learning curve is just so steep to go to go from that first camping trip to your second camping trip. Because, you know, even like you say, if you borrowed a lot of equipment, you're gonna want to go shopping, you're gonna want to go and and get some stuff, you know. My um my mate Tom, who features on first time camping, you know, I took him camping for the first time last year, and uh, and it was all my gear, and I and I I put on put on a show.

We did this joke before. We've only got three jokes and we keep going up. Yeah, yeah. Sorry, Tom. Sorry, Tom. But um, but yeah, I I put on a show, put a hat on and everything. It's um and and he had a great time and wanted to wanted to get all of his own stuff, and now he has got such a fantastic setup, and uh, and he's been camping, you know, with all of that equipment that he's then gone on and got. And um and he uh he's joining us at LeView on the Farm, so you'll you know anyone that's coming will see his setup, but you are gonna love his setup. It's absolute, absolutely fantastic. Um I I'm yeah, it's it's a great setup. But that case in point was Tom, Tom had a great time camping and went, I've absolutely got into gotta get into this, and then spent quite a lot of time researching, looking at, you know, what I'd got, and he hasn't gone for the same stuff, you know, he's he's gone for a completely different cooking setup um what I've got, but he's really kind of dove deep into into everything to kind of go, Well, I I liked all of that that Tim did, I really liked that, and he's and he's copied me on some of the stuff, but then other things he's kind of gone, I liked that, but that's not what I want to do, and I and I um I want to kind of do it my own way, and and he's he's then he's then you know jumped into different styles of equipment.

So isn't that the joy of camping that there is different ways, and you know, there's a myriad of things out there for you know the the type of stoves, the open fire, the uh Dutch oven, the tents, the stand-up ones, the airbag, you know, there's loads of things. Yeah, and I think we've said before, you know, wandering around a campsite when you don't know much and you start to see what other people have got, you start to do those Google searches and stuff. Yeah, and I think for those people that can go out and just go, right, okay, this is what I'm doing now. Uh, and I'm just gonna buy the the stuff that I've got uh that I want. Other people, it's uh building up over time to go, that bit didn't work for me. I'm just gonna change that for the next time, or that was okay. And over time, you and me have uh, you know, as we've got older, we've gone, oh, I actually want something that I can stand up in now. Whereas, you know, 10 years ago it was like ultra light and fast. I'm pretending that I'm walking somewhere, but I'm not walking anywhere other than to the car and the pub.

Oh my god. Uh you know, hats off to you if you can break dance. You are an athlete, but it ain't a sport. Let's not pretend it's a sport. It's um, I mean, it has caused a lot of entertainment, that's for sure. But that Australian, Australian breakdancer's clearly never done any breakdancing before, and they've just gone, well, we've got a ticket, you won't come.

Yeah, or some somebody's like, uh, have you got any good people in your class or something? And you go, Well, you know what? I could do a few moves.

Although saying that, I was reading a review of uh Falling Down with uh a uh Michael Douglas today. I thought, oh, you know what, the older I get, the more I relate to him. Go see that film, it's great, it's a great film. Anyway, anyway, our um our sister has done uh a lot of solo um hiking and and backpacking and and camping and stuff up in uh up in Scotland. But this weekend she's gone and done first-time big tent family camping with her daughter and um our niece. And uh and she uh she wants to talk to me later because uh she says she's learnt loads of stuff and needs a bit of a debrief really of what she needs to do next. It's um which would be an an interesting chat.

You know, I didn't I didn't think about it just calling her on the I mean to be honest, she she knows what she'd get from me. Yeah, that yeah, yeah.

See, I I I managed to persuade her to to she the cool box that she bought before she went uh is a Coleman uh extreme, and she threw ice away uh after four nights, so you know, and it and it cost her 60 odd quid. So you know, yes, we would have gone Stanley, you would have gone uh Yeti and um and uh you know hundreds and hundreds of pounds later, she'd have still thrown ice away after four nights, but you know it's um you know I've built myself up to that, and I think that's the uh good thing about talking about second-time camping.

That doesn't happen overnight for a lot of people.

You see, oh, we're pulling it back around like that was that was a flip. That was beautiful the way you did that. That was beautiful the way that you just took it straight back on topic. I mean, bloody.

Uh Tim, I've been doing this like you know, for 56 episodes now, you know. Starting to get the hang of it.

It's like you've got bullet points and everything today, haven't you?

But it's it, yeah, I've got to that point, and that's the gear that I lust after. Other people are sat there going, that's how much? Are you crazy? Uh, it could work the best in the world. I'm just not going to spend that much money. I've just lusted after Yeti for two or three years before I got one, and then I've sold one to buy another. It, you know, so all of those things. But I think it's an interesting journey because I started off with one of those little uh blue double walled um thing for 10 pounds um with no insulation in it that holds ice for an evening if you're lucky, really. You know, we used to freeze our cans uh so that they'd be cold on the second day.

Um, and you know, only just made it to that, really. So those are the things that we've uh yeah. Obviously, uh drinking theme uh uh goes on sort of quite a lot there. Obviously, how how long can you have your your cans cold for is our our length and measurement of uh where do you pitch your tent?

How far is it to walk to the pub? Which is the pub side of the of the site. These are things you learn, you see, when you've been once, you you learn you learn by your mistakes.

It's um I think I think that's the thing of uh you know the gear, and you don't have to go out and buy all new, you know, beg, borrow, and steal from those people that'll beg, borrow, and steal your stuff. Um you know, maybe not steal, but you know what? Friends that are willing to uh lend you things, take good care of it, they'll keep on lending you it until you can get that.

Uh and and as you know, we said for first time camping, it's um, you know, you don't need to spend any money, but you know, find find a friendly person who will lend you some gear. Well, they'll lend you a lot. If you've looked after it and you've you've treated it with respect, they'll lend you a lot of that for the second time camping. So you don't need to do like Tom has done and gone and bought everything. Actually, you could borrow some stuff again and go, Well, actually, I I I don't want to buy a tent yet, but um I've I've bought the stove and I've bought a cool box and I bought my own sleeping bag and mat and I've kind of got those bits. Can I borrow your tent? Because I kind of want to do it again. And um, you know, if you've looked after it the first time and not taken the mick and not damaged it and not giving it back dirty, and you know, out properly, you know, always uh always air out a tent.

I know it's a pain getting it back out again, but air it out, it lasts a heck of a lot longer.

That's the top tip for second time camping, really, because if you have gone in your own tent, first time camping, and you didn't air it out second time camping, it's gonna stink. And you're you're gonna really regret it. You're gonna really regret it. And it might put you off camping then because you might go, oh god. Everything stinks. Yeah, look after look after your gear, treat it properly when you've got home again, and it'll be that it'll perform brilliantly for you next time.

Yeah, you know, and and I I over the years have had different um stoves, I've had different tents, I've loved each one of them for the time that they have done me, and then I found something else and you know moved it on. Um, Facebook Cells seems to be a really good place. Look for your local people that are just getting rid of and coming to the end of certain seasons. So we're coming coming to the end of uh oh, we're we're in the middle of uh July, so we're not coming to the end of anything just yet. But uh you will have it's August ed. Oh, is it? Yeah, where am I?

I don't know. I don't it's just uh I I'm still on holiday mode, I think. It's the 12th of August. Is it? I couldn't quite remember. Oh early onset, you know. But that's the thing getting towards the end of August, sales will start to happen. Yeah, you know, there might not be those super duper tents that never ever get a uh a markdown, but doing those Google searches, you can find some things. You could find those people that didn't like camping and are selling off things. I found my um somebody selling off a biolite uh fire pit um for 40 quid. Gosh. Turned up, bought it, boom, sold it.

Made a lot of money because I I had a fire pit. But I was like, 40 quid. Is this still available? Yes, I'll have it. When when are you in? I'm at your door now. Yes, those things are are out there still, and Facebook uh marketplace is that thing of I don't want to mess around waiting for a week while somebody so there are some good things to get, keep on looking. You can find some really good things. You obviously don't want secondhand sleeping bags that way, but you know, secondhand tent isn't uh anything to be uh uh, you know, if you get a bargain, there's some really good ones. There's also a lot of sites that do glamping tents coming to the end of the season that they as part of their upkeep of their tents, they don't keep them over winter, they have like a season for them and then they sell them off and recoup so they've got fresh stock for the next year. So you can get some really good bargains of some really high quality stuff.

Yeah, I mean, bell tents in particular that that a lot of sites use for for glamping, you can get some really cheap, you know, four or five meter bell tents that are are seriously nice, nice, um, nice tents to to have, and they're and they're massively cheap and they um they haven't been wrecked you know they might have a few marks and things on them but they haven't been wrecked because they've they've been glamped in all all summer long it's um they are great eBay I say is has gone right down recently i i um I don't find anything on there other than absolute trash and junk it's um I don't I don't know what's I don't know what's going on with eBay certainly in the UK I don't know what it's like in the rest of the world yeah but it's just it's just it's just and I've been I've been caught out a few times with like either rubbish turning up and it not being what it's meant to be or it just never turns up and you've got the rigmarole of trying to chase people then for your money back. It's um I don't know I think eBay eBay's time has died to me it's dead to me now I don't buy stuff off there.

I I have to say I'm looking on there less and less um I do um you know still put in searches but I think you've got to really narrow down what you're looking for because otherwise it's just uh you know put that you're looking for secondhand stuff put um you know otherwise you get all the new stuff and all the stuff that's imported I think there's far too many people buying from China and trying to resell it at uh yeah what they think is a reasonable price. Um so yeah you're right but you know there's all those marketplaces out there and also check check your little uh charity shop you know they uh do get some stuff in ask sometimes there uh it's not out front because they don't know what to do with it nobody's checked a tent out and stuff go and ask them and just say yeah can I have a look what you've got or or whatever they only put out a fraction of what they've got and sometimes they don't put those stuff out. I don't know I just I found a myriad of uh tents camp beds those foldable packing tables with chair things that come out there's loads of them uh you know so so yeah you know I'll always ask uh if you're looking for something specific somebody will say oh yeah we've got them they tend to be right in the corner that nobody's really looked at because nobody really knows what they're looking for. And if you feel competent with a tent have a look say can I get it out and have a look yeah you never you never know what you're gonna drop in on there.

Yeah it's a proper top tip yeah um so yeah so you you you've got the gear you don't have to go to all the best stuff if you're like me that's where you'll probably graduate to but actually I also like getting a bargain as well and while we talked about storage last week uh you were good to highlight that actually although I do have some nice big storage things that you know from Snowpeak I've also got little sort of old wooden swept crates that um you know just have a myriad of other things in them as well um you know so you can pick up and that combination of the two looks really awesome in a in a camping field you know having having the um the snow peak boxes and then all the the oldy worldie stuff I think it's uh your setup looks really cool you know you don't you don't need to go out there and buy really expensive stuff you can you know if you're deciding that you yep your first time camping was great you want to get you want to go again you don't have to spend a fortune you can you can go and find you know find other things storage is a really good idea if you didn't listen to last week's episode go back and listen to it you know getting some kind of a box to put all of your stuff in so that you know where it all is and uh and equally you know where it is to take camping so you don't have to race around the house trying to find it all you know that that in itself is a massive top tip for the second time camper.

Well it is and you know be easy on yourself we've all forgotten stuff we've all forgotten stuff you know it just happens um so you know that's part and parcel of you know whether it's uh that important or you know if it's your bed yeah you know that is important if it's a fork then you know you're eating with your fingers tonight yee hee again says aid it's a it's a really good thing actually to kind of plan your food around finger food with camping quite frankly because uh you know it just makes life easier you take less stuff well I mean that that's you know going on to food that that's the thing isn't it of um just being able to plan what you're doing uh you know how many times have we had burgers and sausages you know you do them on a little grill I've even had a shopping basket we didn't have a grill one time and so we went shopping in Tesco's and just put the basket in the car might have been some other charit uh other uh thing you you are just a wrong in aren't you just a wrong might have been drinking that damn um but it made a good grill I'm saying I bet it did actually I bet it did and then uh you know we recycled it properly we left no trace recycled a burnt shocking mask Tim I've said too much let's move on oh god sorry can't go back to that site again I think we it wasn't a site to be honest I think it was on the uh shores of Loch Lomond or something there's there's rules now mainly because of because one person left the burnt shopping basket you now need a person I didn't I didn't leave no I I'll take that back and never leave anything I always tidy up I didn't I know I know you're you're very very very very good at that you absolutely do use scout as ne as needs must you know there's a test goes but there's never a camping shop when you need one yeah absolutely absolutely it's uh and they don't always sell a barbecue so uh you have to improvise improvise well it's um it is though those things that you know finger food hot dogs and sausages it's you know quite a lot of the time it's just that's the stuff that you don't eat at home uh so it's really quite nice to go oh right okay I'm having this it probably uh um you know we should have moved on a long time ago because I still quite like it when I get out there but you know makes it easier you meet need less cutlery you need less plates and everything it's just right it's ready eat it and I I haven't done burgers and sausages for ages and actually I was thinking uh for my next camping trip because you quite often uh do sausages on a um on a on a I was gonna say a pitchfork but that's a that'd be a bit extreme that'd be like a massive sausage wouldn't it it's uh sausage time term I never say your name I never say your name when I say that please don't ever have this conversation with me again let's never listen to this episode again so you know when you do like little sound bites uh throughout the year or a Christmas special one and we've got to remember that one we must remember oh my word oh my word uh yeah but um but yeah you're right it's it's nice to go out to eat the stuff that you wouldn't necessarily eat at home and uh and it becomes treat food then doesn't it instead of like everyday food it's but how many times have we also gone away where we've got you know we've said food and everybody turns up with sausages and burgers and no and nobody's brought breakfast yeah or you know so you know plan where you're going you know it's as important about the site that you're at because actually they might do a breakfast great um if you're on a budget you know it's easier to just talk with a group of people are you going with people who's gonna do what you know don't all always think that you have to do every single meal yourself you could do uh evening somebody could do breakfast and for your first time you might have just done one night you might have just done one night in your own garden because we did talk about that you know going the second time you're probably gonna go two or three nights you know you're gonna push push the limits a little bit that does take a little bit more planning when it comes to your food because you've got to think about well I've got to plan my meals I've got to plan lunches as well as as well as breakfasts and evening meals I've got to plan my snacks don't forget your snacks never forget the snacks never forget the snacks and you've got to think you've got to plan around how do you keep all that food safe so that you can eat it in two days' time so again not not to keep harping back to cool boxes because you know we love cool boxes but you've got to put some thought into that when you are when you are deciding that you're gonna go for those extra few days it's um you've got to keep stuff cold keep it safe to eat yeah definitely I think uh that's the thing and those sights as well you know you're going uh it's the time of year you know if it's peak summer as it is here in the uh UK at the minute then that's a great time because you're not really going to be cold on a night you might be uncomfortable if you've not got a good airbed or or something like that.

But actually when it gets to sort of earlier in the season and you're desperate to get away or later in the season those are the things where you know chuck an extra blanket in the car just in case not not worse than being cold.

Ah there you go yeah well prepared Tim shame you weren't a scout dip dip dip we weren't allowed to be in scouts oh we weren't um yeah it's uh I I wish I wish I were I was because that would have been good oh I I wanted to be but um yeah we had we had a funny old upbringing didn't we but um we did yeah we weren't allowed to watch certain TV channels and things like that you know not not rude ones obviously there weren't rude channels when we were kids there was only there was only three tv channels when we were kids we were only allowed to watch two when I was a kid deepest darkest yorkshire uh and so uh yeah the sites so you know also think about uh where you're going to so yes it's nice to go down to Cornwall and see those seaside bits and and stuff do it in midsummer and you're certainly traveling down on a Friday or a Saturday it's gonna take you a long time to get there um you know give yourself that bit of a uh a break you know maybe it's uh go a little bit closer to home do just put some thought into it what are you going for are you going to be on a site and be in nature or are you going to go do some walking and things because that's all part of the the sort of choice of what you're doing. And if it is just to be out in nature great um but then do you want more of the site do you expect a little bit more of the site the facilities and things like that um true we can go in sorry no I was gonna say if you're if you're going with people you know that company is you know good old friends or you know if you're going with other people that haven't camped before it can be a challenge as um Bella has found out recently with her friends.

Yeah yeah but the the good thing is that if if it's your second time camping and you're taking people and it's their first time camping you're the expert because you've done it you've done it once before which is like a thousand times more than they have. So suddenly you know all the stuff and you go oh no no you do it like this and you do it like this and and suddenly everyone's like in awe of you because you're the camping must master. Yeah lord it over them definitely lord it over them like you're the expert but you're kind of you will actually feel that you know you um you will it you know it feels feels great when you have some knowledge doesn't it and it isn't that you're lording it over them but it does feel great to impart that knowledge onto other people and kind of go oh no I kind of I did it this way last time and actually that wasn't right so I'm gonna I've done it this way this time and and it and it works great and they look at you like you've just you know turned lead into gold and uh and you feel awesome.

Well that's the thing as well you know there's a lot of people um not that I can relate to this because I have always loved fire but there's a lot of people that get a little bit nervous of doing a fire. Yeah you know I've heard it you know I've never experienced it I've been lighting fire since I was 14 in deepest darkest yorkshire burn them receipts for the tax man will you many a true word spoken yes yes anyway um but that's the thing as well you know have fire lighters every garage has them you know yeah it's nothing to be ashamed of uh getting that but then having kindling don't just have fire lighters and big logs that uh you expect to sort of ignite from it um and you know what go around and make friends with people somebody who goes oh you give us angry this fire or something that's the thing but also make sure that the campsite if you want a fire and that's an integral part of it can you have fires do they have to be off the ground you know that that's the other thing for me I I would only ever go if I can have a fire.

If I can't have a fire I don't want to be in that site there's very few sites I go to like that so yeah fires fire's really key isn't it even if it's you know in in the the tent stove um because a lot of places will let you have a contained fire of some sort but um you've got you gotta have you gotta have fire you you've got to have some kind of fire it's um it's uh it's a tv of the campsite it's um for me so what else are you gonna look at if you don't have a fire yeah it's um it's uh but yeah but if even if you're you know you again if you're with people who are who are a bit nervous about fires you've been the first time you know you've you've kind of you've learned something even if even if you're not an expert from going first time camping you by the time you go the second time you have learnt some skills and even if that is I know to bring fire lighters because it makes it really easy or one of those fire logs that you just light I used those for ages before I I got a bit more proficient and liked playing with fire at at your level you know you just you just know that stuff's gonna make it easy. That stuff I'm gonna light that stuff and I'm gonna have fire really really quickly and everyone's gonna be warm because if it is a bit cool and you're second time camping and you brought some other people with you they're gonna get really grumpy really quickly once they start to get cold and they're gonna start moaning and they're they're gonna want to go home and and everything else.

Get the fire on get some drinks going get some food going and uh and you've learnt that from going the first time that you're gonna go yep this is I got to get tent up I got to get kitchen set up I got to get fire lit I've got to do food we've got to have a drink and as the quickest you can get all of that stuff done everyone's gonna be happy yeah I don't like the order that you put drink right at the back there get out of the car open a beer so uh yeah so I think um that goes a little bit of the way to sort of explaining what you might be doing that next time whether it's gear whether it's uh getting into nature whether it is meeting up with friends but you know that's the joy of camping and we're all on a different journey you know wherever you've started it from think uh you know we we have a an inherent love of you know sometimes it is just being out in nature uh it's solo camping you're by yourself you're in a snow covered E-Dale campsite um for others it's uh chance to catch up with friends that you know we make a a night or two uh you know whatever it is we're all learning at different uh speeds totally totally totally and um and yes we've been camping loads and loads of times but you know if if it's your second time you've obviously been bitten by the same bug that we have so welcome to the club and uh get out get out there get out there I um uh we've had some fan mail you know in other news so it's um as I said last week uh our host um podcast host people uh company called Buzz Sprout have put a link at the in the footnotes that where you can message us and um you send us a message we can't reply to you it comes through as a text message and um but it's just really nice to get so we've had our first first one and uh and this says um hi Chris here from Southampton uh maybe your first message listening to this week's episode you then very quickly followed it up with our second our second message which was hang your pants from your guy ropes I'm going I'm gonna get that on a t-shirt gonna get that on a t-shirt hang your pants from your guy ropes I don't know how he says it in a Southampton accent but it works in Yorkshire oh I'm gonna tell you I mean he's presuming that we're washing them you are wrong on all the levels all the levels are you like taking one pair of pants for the week and you just keep turning them inside out and switching them back to front do you get like four days out of pants why do you why do you think I like fires so much it keeps the smell down oh my god oh I'm an animal team I'm an animal you light a lot of fires when you're at home as well are you just burning camping pants they're not allowed in the house just burn those the bin men won't take them oh god I started something else now can we go back to princess doubles that's better than sausage time Tim your latest catchphrase bloody hell jesus christ I've now got an image of a worried Tim hearing that and just peering over the corner of his shoulder sausage time Tim enough enough enough I need a minute mindfulness to take me somewhere peace and quiet here's some sounds from the camping field welcome to the casual camping one minute mindfulness let the sounds of the outdoors take you back to the camping field fantastic.

Uh I was watching a uh YouTube video of A B camping. There's a guy who just just does it, but he was winter camping this weekend, so I was like, oh wow. And that's the thing, the lure of the next season in the winter, you got a nice when it's just warm and you know, and in the summer it's like actually, I quite like a winter camp that's uh a bit stormy and uh we're huddled around a stove in the tent. Brilliant.

The thunderstorm today um reminded me of of um oddly enough, when I was camping with Tom when I took Tom first time camping. Uh, we had the mother of all thunderstorms in the middle of the night. There was that much lightning. It was like it was daylight outside. There was it was that bright. And uh and I did think, oh, I'm sleeping in a bell tent with a uh a two and a half meter steel pole standing straight up right in the middle of it, like a lightning rod. Probably not the best place to be, but hey-ho. Um, but it was it was amazing to to listen to the rain and the and the storm and the thunder and the lightning, and uh, you know, I I uh I love that. I love being out camping when it's really stormy. It's um and you're in your tent and you're safe and you're secure and you're you know you've got all your stuff and it can do what it likes. It's um I love that. I love it when it gets a gets a bit wild.
