Speaker 1:

Hello and welcome to another episode of the Karm Compass podcast. In today's podcast episode, I'm going to talk to you about Iovator and really understanding how that can support us through our body and mind connection, to support us to reduce our experience with stress reduction, and stress is something that we need to look at, the core root we need to look at a lot of people are very like I've got to go to the gym, that's what is, and it's not looking at just one thing. It's looking at a very holistic approach and it doesn't mean that you're going to have to be like so constricted by something is just having a greater awareness of how our body and mind basically work together and, if there is an imbalance, that is presenting how we can support ourselves and understanding that. So Iovator is an ancient system. It's been around for 5000 years, so it's not a new age thing, and a lot of you may have actually heard of yoga and that's the sister science of Iovator. Iovator is basically means science of life, longevity, and it's looking at a very holistic approach to basically how we do life and looking at those you know, if there's a presenting issue, that's presented how we can become more in balance as well, so originating from the Vedic culture and it's basically transmitted orally across millennia. Right, and it's looking at very much preventative health measures. So it's looking at your life, it's looking at your environment, it's looking at you know what you eat. It's looking at your thoughts, all to help you achieve an equilibrium in your body, mind and consciousness.

Speaker 1:

And central to Iovator are the doshas and the doshas. Sometimes we can sort of fixate on the doshas and it's always understanding that sometimes when we are out of balance, we might be, we might have one of those elements more presented. So we have to have something that is going to be the opposing element that's going to be pacifying and supporting that. And sometimes people are oh, what's my doshas? And we can fixate on that a little bit too much. So it's just coming from just hearing this and looking at it, from sometimes, when we are out of balance, you might be more out of balance from another doshas, you might have an abundance of that area and talking to an Iovator practitioner of how you can become more imbalanced.

Speaker 1:

So Veta is basically that compromises of the air and space elements and Veta. You know doshas personalities. They embody a very energetic, creative and flexible traits. Now, when they become, there's maybe an imbalance. So when there's maybe a lot of dominance of Veta things like irritable bowel, digestive issues, you know, dry skin, insomnia and those overactive thoughts and some of the behaviors that when Veta is in balance, it might be that we're over committing.

Speaker 1:

So from a stress and anxiety perspective, it could be that you have a dominance of Veta. There's actually so much Veta energy going on and your remember your Veta is made up of ether and space, so very airy. If you're having things that even foods or elements or environments that resemble that, you're going to be even more anxious, you're going to feel more overwhelmed. So it's doing the opposing thing and that is very grounding elements. So grounding food, warm water you know hot foods it might be, rather than having a cold salad, it might be having something that's more warm, if that makes sense, and things that you can do to balance Veta. You know those really focusing on those warmer elements, moist foods right, because you have a tendency to dry out and it could be that if you are, if you find that some of those things sound familiar, it's avoiding moist foods or avoiding cold or dry or raw food items.

Speaker 1:

So it's just having a bit of an awareness and going oh okay, how can I do that? What elements can I do to sort of provide that? So I always say, from what I understand and how I practice, iovator is from the philosophy of how can I sort of balance myself out what's presenting, how can I balance myself out? And pitta pitta is very fire and water elements, right. So pitta dominant personalities. They are very leadership, ambitious and they have a very active metabolism. Now, when pitta becomes imbalanced, they can lead to inflammation, they can become very irritable, they can become impatient, hasty decision making Okay, because they're made up of the fire. So you may notice in yourself if you're more of the pitta personality, dosha and we usually have two doshas that we're sort of elements of but if you notice that you're mainly of a pitta and you continue having very hot foods, you might notice that inflammation is more noticeable or you become more irritable or you start becoming more triggered. So it's having those cooler foods and something that can be really so balancing, that is, we're incorporating very astringent, bitter, sweet tastes when you're doing your cooling practices.

Speaker 1:

So it might be that people who are more of the pitta do gravitate towards salads. Now, interesting, a lot, what works for one person doesn't for another. You know, sometimes people like, oh, I have salads, they're great. This is what my mum and my sister always told me have salads, and I always don't know. I didn't really know about Ayurveda, but I always preferred warm meals, meals like leftover meals that I'm heating up. I always wanted that and it always made me feel more grounded and more full and just a little bit better when the kaffa dosha so they're made up of the water and the earth elements and kaffa traits involve patience, loyalty and stamina.

Speaker 1:

Now, when kaffa has is imbalance, that can result in things like fluid retention, because they're made up of fluid and they can be more susceptible to chests or asthma. So it's always just understanding and weight gain. When they're also in balance, they have sometimes emotional attachment or lethargy. So they might. They actually, out of all the doshas, they need the least amount of sleep, but they can become quite lethargic. So they actually need things like more pitta. They need to have more of that activation fire elements, and so when you're restoring balance, it's having embracing bitter and pungent tastes and actually having dry foods, and because they can be more susceptible to being quite happy.

Speaker 1:

Just being more lethargic is engaging in regular exercise. So these are ways that you can just understand the different dosha constitutions, just to have a better understanding how that may impact things like lifestyle diet and that body mind connection. But it does impact on your behaviors and we could see that in the you know, when we're imbalanced of how that might be presenting and Ayurveda is really. It provides such insightful ways that we can actually support our stress management.

Speaker 1:

Looking at a very holistic way, I don't expect you to be sitting on lotus. I don't expect people to be like eating like all of these, like organic foods, three times a day, because I do not do that. I am looking at this from a philosophical, a philosophical perspective of how I can do and how I can do life and how I can support myself in a way that feels good and I'm not setting myself up for failure. I'm setting myself up with a kind, nurturing heart.
