Speaker 1:

Hello and welcome to another episode of the Karmic Compass podcast. So, as we are entering to a new year and it's always a good time to start reviewing and reflecting of what worked, what went really well and we've spoken on a few different episodes about looking at how stress is impacting you, looking at the things that are going really well and how you've managed and increasing that. So, if you found that when you are worth, for example, exercising, doing movement, that worked really well, continue doing that. So, a lot of the time, as we are entering a new year, sometimes we are very we can be quite persecutory to ourselves. We can be very judgmental to ourselves. We might be looking at what we haven't achieved instead of all of the things that we have done and really recognising where we are in our journey and really sticking to. Well, you may have had other things going on so we can get. We can go into the game of comparing ourselves to someone else and that just puts us back. That can make us feel more stressed, more anxious, more overwhelmed. So, as we are entering into a new year, it's starting to really think about what went well, starting to do a bit of a review. So I actually thought it would be such a beautiful way that we could actually start looking at. You know when we're looking at creating intentions or the next year, but you don't have to do this in the new year.

Speaker 1:

Like, there is such an assumption that New Year's resolutions are. You know, new Year's resolutions are a thing of the past, because we sometimes write all of these things, we don't actually take stock of what worked, we don't review, we don't look at what actually we love to do so we can include that more in our life. We just write 100, you know, this is everything that I want to do. We don't actually work out is this in a line to our values, right? So I thought it would be a really good plan to actually start reviewing and reflecting, right? So think about you know what were the beginning of this year, what were your goals and intentions that you actually set for yourself for this year? And this is a really good thing that you can do monthly, you can do quarterly, you can do as often as you like of really reviewing and reflecting to see if you are in alignment to those goals. And sometimes our focus changes. There's something bigger in installment, or we need to. We've got so many different things that we might be juggling as well.

Speaker 1:

So it's really looking at those goals, thinking about what they were and what were the actual outcomes, right, and sometimes we don't always notice we're expecting this big hit, right, this big physical hit of this is every single thing. But I want you to be really specific of like thinking about even the smallest change, noticing that change of what it meant. So this could be what you physically saw right and achieved. Possibly Maybe it's something you have actually eliminated from your life. So what does that actually give you? How do you feel in yourself? What does that mean? Maybe you're you're feeling differently in your thoughts. You know what are the habits that are maybe different. What are you saying yes to and what you're saying no to?

Speaker 1:

So really getting super specific about what were the outcomes that you put yourself, those goals, those intentions that you put forward for that, for this year, right, what specifically were the outcomes? And thinking about, sometimes we put an intention but it leads to something else, maybe something that was we go, oh, I said a new thing, new thing that I was going to exercise every day, but we found maybe a different exercise movement that was far better for us, right, sometimes we go, yeah, I'm going to exercise seven days a week and we self-submitage because we're like I don't want to do that, right, so, really being specific about what specifically were those intentions you put forward? Okay, and this is really good, you might sort of pause the podcast, come back to it, and we've done quite a few different episodes of like reviewing and reflecting and really getting you to start taking some responsibility of what worked and noticing how much you actually have achieved. Right, and if you haven't yet achieved those particular goals, okay, what strategies did you specifically implement? Okay, and how did you maintain it? Right, it's very easy for us to. I know I am very shiny, bright syndrome, right, so I see something. Yes, that's so exciting, it feels exciting. We get a rush to our heads, we feel like, wow, we get so many endorphins when we're trying something new and when sometimes we're on that path, we get maybe an obstacle and that we go into the field.

Speaker 1:

The doubt comes in, whatever it is, and maybe it's never the good time, right, how did you stay consistent? What did consistency mean? Consistency doesn't mean every day. Consistency may be that you did that once a month, but you did it consistently. Consistency may be that you did it every day, or it could have been that every couple of days you did something right. So, being really specific about what did you actually do right, and so some other things for you to sort of start exploring from a journal perspective was there a better opportunity, right? So was there a better opportunity that was presented to you instead? And what were they?

Speaker 1:

Now, sometimes we're like, oh, I didn't get that thing that I wanted, right, and maybe they were. Those challenges were to teach you something that you needed to do before you got to that bigger goal, possibly, right. So I've been kind to ourselves and, looking at those intentions that you set yourself, I want you to be really honest. Are they still important? Yes, no? Or are they your goals, your mum's goals, your dad's goals? Sometimes we set ourselves things because that's where we feel like we're going to get validation or worth or whatever. Right, and maybe there were obstacles. Let's face it, there are hundreds of obstacles that get in our way or different things. Life happens, right? What were they?

Speaker 1:

So I want you to think of, like, what were the things that you felt kept you from achieving that goal or to the level that you were you expected. Maybe that's a better way of looking at it. So write that down because it's really good for you to have an understanding We've done this in a previous episode of really understanding what obstacles are being presented time and time again. So you go okay, I know that this is going to come up. How am I actually going to problem solve that?

Speaker 1:

Okay, then I want you to journal, like the stories. So what are the stories that you're telling yourself that may be keeping you feeling in the same space? Maybe it's making you feel you're in, you feel maybe stuck, or often we, we this isn't working. You know we focus on maybe possibly what's going on, because it's a narrative, it's a story, and the more we focus if you've heard of the reticular activating system, which is a previous episode, have a listen to that, because it's basically our filtering system of the mind so the more we filter it, especially when we're only looking at negative things it keeps presenting more.

Speaker 1:

So, being really clear with yourself about what stories or what things did you notice in your mind kept coming up that maybe you felt kept you from, maybe kept you feeling taking action, and I want you to really think about like, what do you, if you're wanting to go into a new version of yourself, what do you actually prepared and ready to let go of today and writing it? What am I? What am I willing and ready to let go of today? And thinking of resentments? Okay, so stay with me for a moment.

Speaker 1:

So sometimes we have things that are coming up day in, day out. Resentments, upsets people. Maybe we need to forgive them right and just thinking about do I need to forgive anyone who's done something Right? And thinking what they could be? And it's not your forgiving the behavior, it's more for yourself, because the more what we focus on, that it's going to we're going to start just it's amplifying. So this is just one of the parts of before you're starting to create these really powerful intentions is really getting into reviewing and reflecting, really getting into what worked, what maybe what you're really ready to say to the universe. I'm ready to actually let this go now. So I hope you've enjoyed today's podcast episode.
