Dr. Geoffrey J. Giddings

Dr. G.J. Giddings was born in Guyana and emigrated to the U.S. as a youth.  His education comprised of high school in Brooklyn, New York, a B.A. degree from Brandeis University, a transient semester at Morehouse College, and M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from Temple University. 


As a researcher, Dr. Giddings has published on Guyanese foodways, U.S. Black Power era intellectual history, and pan-African cultures. He taught undergraduates at Temple University, Antioch College, the University of Guyana, and at Central State University where he was Full Professor of History, Chairperson of Humanities Department, director of Honors, faculty leader of study abroad programs to Guyana, and distance learning professor. Global education experiences in Guyana sparked Dr. Giddings’ current interest in foodways and food systems. 
Dr. Giddings loves teaching, reading historical novels, running, cooking, and gardening.
