Day 4: Jesus' Olivet Discourse: Preparing for His Return

Day 4: Jesus' Olivet Discourse: Preparing for His Return

with Dr. Jeff Warren and Rebekah Mompremier

Joel 2:28-32; Matthew 24:1-35

As we journey through Holy Week, we're invited to pause and reflect on Jesus' powerful Olivet Discourse. This teaching, found in Matthew 24, offers us a glimpse into the end times and Jesus' triumphant return. While the discourse speaks of wars, famines, and persecution, it's ultimately a message of hope and endurance. We're reminded that amidst life's trials, our faith can be our anchor. The imagery of Jesus' return 'like lightning from east to west' serves as a powerful metaphor for His undeniable presence and glory. As we contemplate these words, we're challenged to live with a sense of readiness and purpose, knowing that our actions today ripple into eternity. How might this perspective shift our daily lives and deepen our commitment to spreading the gospel?

Reflection:

  1. In what ways can we maintain 'perpetual readiness' for Christ's return without neglecting our present responsibilities?
  2. How might the concept of a 'simple kingdom' based on love transform our approach to daily life and interactions with others?
  3. How might the promise of Jesus' glorious return provide hope and comfort during times of persecution or hardship?

Simple Kingdom

Your Kingdom is simple

As simple as love

You welcomed the children

You stopped for the one

We want to see people

The way Jesus does

Your Kingdom is simple

Lord teach it to us

Your Kingdom is humble

As humble as death

His King is a Savior

Who gave His last breath

So may we die daily

Our pride laid to rest

Your Kingdom is humble

And the broken are blessed

Hallelujah

Hallowed be Your name

May we live

And breathe Your praise

And hallelujah

Let all creation say

Oh The King of Heaven reigns

Your Kingdom is coming

Your Kingdom is here

Alive in our waiting

At work in our tears

So come to us quickly

Forever our prayer

Your Kingdom is coming

Lord Jesus come near

Your Kingdom is backwards

It flows in reverse

What You call a treasure

This world calls a curse

The small become great and

The last become first

Your Kingdom is backwards

Lord teach us to serve

As it is with Your Kingdom

Let it be with Your church
