Day 6: Good Friday: Reflecting on Christ's Sacrifice

Day 6: Good Friday: Reflecting on Christ's Sacrifice

with Dr. Jeff Warren and Dr. Han Oh

Isaiah 53; Matthew 27:32-44

As we reflect on Good Friday, we're invited to journey through the hours of Jesus' crucifixion, from His condemnation at 8 a.m. to His burial at 6 p.m. This powerful meditation encourages us to pause and consider the immense sacrifice made on our behalf. The Gospel accounts, particularly Matthew 27, guide us through Christ's final moments - His sleepless nights, mock trials, and ultimate suffering on the cross. We're challenged to contemplate the darkness that covered the land at noon and Jesus' final words, 'It is finished.' This reflection isn't just about historical events; it's a call for us to examine our hearts, repent, and receive God's grace anew. As we go about our day, we're encouraged to frequently pause and consider what Jesus endured for us, deepening our appreciation for His love and sacrifice.

Reflection:

  1. How does reflecting on Jesus' suffering throughout Good Friday change your perspective on your own challenges and struggles?
  2. In what ways can we honor Jesus' sacrifice beyond just remembering it, and how might this impact our daily lives?
  3. In what ways can we cultivate a deeper sense of gratitude for Christ's sacrifice, especially during times when we feel distant from God?

Man of Sorrows

Man of sorrows Lamb of God

By His own betrayed

The sin of man and wrath of God

Has been on Jesus laid

Silent as He stood accused

Beaten mocked and scorned

Bowing to the Father's will

He took a crown of thorns

Oh that rugged cross

My salvation

Where your love poured out over me

Now my soul cries out

Hallelujah

Praise and honor unto Thee

Sent of heaven God's own Son

To purchase and redeem

And reconcile the very ones

Who nailed Him to that tree

Now my debt is paid

It is paid in full

By the precious blood

That my Jesus spilled

Now the curse of sin

Has no hold on me

Whom the Son sets free

Oh is free indeed

See the stone is rolled away

Behold the empty tomb

Hallelujah God be praised

He's risen from the grave
