Lesson 1: God's Love is Merciful with Travis Cook

Park Cities Baptist Church

In this first message of our new series, Major Lessons From the Minor Prophets, we're challenged to confront our own prejudices and shortcomings in the book of Jonah. The story of Jonah isn't just about a man running from God's call; it's a mirror reflecting our own tendency to judge others while overlooking our own faults. We're reminded that God's mercy extends not only to the oppressed but also to the oppressors – a concept that might make us uncomfortable. This message pushes us to recognize our own participation in systems of oppression, however unintentional, and to seek God's forgiveness and transformation. The parallels drawn between Jonah's rebellion and our own struggles with obedience invite us to examine our hearts and motivations. Are we, like Jonah, running from God's presence because we disagree with His methods or His mercy? This introspection can lead us to a deeper understanding of God's limitless grace and our need for it.
