Park Cities Baptist Church Sermons
Advent Day 22
In today's episode, we encounter one of Scripture's most profound passages about Jesus' incarnation — Philippians 2:5-11. The text confronts us with a stunning reality: the King of Kings voluntarily emptied Himself, setting aside His divine privileges to take on human flesh as a servant. This isn't just theological information; it's a mirror held up to our own lives. When we grasp that Christ humbled Himself to the point of death for us, we're forced to examine our own posture toward obedience and humility. The conversation reveals how easily we can read Scripture for head knowledge while missing its transformative power.
When we truly dwell in God's Word, asking Him to speak rather than simply checking off our reading, everything changes. The challenge becomes personal: if Jesus died for us, shouldn't we die to ourselves for Him? This passage calls us to daily discipleship — not just one moment of confession, but hundreds of small choices throughout each day to bow before Jesus and follow His way instead of our own. In a culture that celebrates self-promotion and strength, Christ's kingdom operates upside-down, where weakness is magnified and humility is the pathway to glory.
