The Light of Our Story with Dr. Jeff Warren

Park Cities Baptist Church

John's life story, interwoven with Jesus from before birth, reveals a man who knew his calling with absolute clarity. He was the forerunner, the voice crying in the wilderness, the one who bridged 400 years of prophetic silence. Yet even this devoted servant experienced moments of doubt when imprisoned, wondering if Jesus was truly the Messiah.

This message challenges us to see ourselves in John's story—not as the light itself, but as witnesses to the light. We are sent into our workplaces, schools, and communities not primarily to succeed or be comfortable, but to point others toward Jesus. The American gospel promises ease and prosperity, but the true gospel calls us to die to ourselves, to decrease so Christ can increase. When we make ourselves the hero of our own story, we carry crushing anxiety and the impossible burden of control. But when we embrace our role as pointers to the true Light, we find freedom in weakness and purpose in suffering. This Christmas season, we're invited to pray daily for opportunities to share Christ's light, remembering that the most heroic Christians are often the quietly faithful ones who consistently direct attention away from themselves and toward the Savior.
