In this episode, the tables are turned as Dr. Robert Cleve interviews GCI podcast host Dr. Tanya Knudsen on her perspectives about creativity and the lessons she has gathered from conversations with creativity scholars and practitioners in the podcast.

Episode Highlights

  •  Creativity is a fluency for what might be, what's possible. At its essence, it is a form of energy that can be used for good, though not always. Creativity in service of harmful outcomes may become more common if humans surrender too much creativity and agency to artificial intelligence.
  •  If we all became even a little more creative, the world would be a better place. Creativity increases our ability to navigate life, adapt, innovate, and find fulfillment.
  • When creativity is diminished, we ultimately limit both our potential and our quality of life.

How Do We Become More Creative?

 Seek out diversity:

  •  Different foods
  •  Different forms of art
  •  Different people
  •  Different places and experiences

Exposure to diversity helps us recognize that there are always alternatives and new possibilities, an essential first step in developing creativity more intentionally.

Ask more questions

Learn to lean into uncertainty
