Welcome back to Ask Velvet, where we talk about stories that stay with you long after the credits roll. Today I'm doing something a little different. A double feature review. Two very different movies, both connected by one powerful theme, love mixed with control, choices, and consequences. We're talking about what's love got to do with it and murder on the thirteenth floor. Now, one is based on a real life music legend and the other is a suspense-filled drama. But both show what can happen when relationships turn unhealthy. First, let's talk about the unforgettable story of Tina Turner. Born in Nutbush, Tennessee, Tina grew up singing in church, carrying a voice that was powerful even as a child. As a teenager, she met Ike Turner, a man who immediately recognized her talent. He called her the business. But what started as opportunity slowly became control. The movie shows how she fell deeply in love, believing in partnership while he took advantage of her innocence. Fame came, but so did trauma, abuse, and emotional pain behind closed doors. There's a moment in the story where she nearly loses hope completely. And honestly, watching it makes you realize something heavy. If she hadn't survived, the world might never have known the strength of her voice. What makes this film powerful is not just the music, it's the survival. Watching her walk away and rebuild her life reminds us that sometimes strength looks like starting over with nothing but courage. Now let's switch gears to murder on the thirteenth floor. This story takes us into a world of secrets and betrayal. A nanny becomes involved with her wealthy boss and ends up pregnant. And suddenly she becomes the target of a jealous wife who decides revenge is the answer. Instead of facing the truth, the wife plots to have the nanny killed, but the plan goes completely wrong. The two men hired for the job end up dead themselves, and the carefully planned cover up begins to crumble. When everything falls apart, the wife tries to act like she had nothing to do with it, but just but justice eventually catches up with her and she's arrested. The nanny survives and ultimately moves forward with her life, proving that even when someone tries to destroy you, survival is still possible. Now, here's why I wanted to review these together. Both movies show women placed in situations where love becomes dangerous. One woman survives abuse and reclaims her identity. Another survives betrayal and an attempted murder. Different stories, same lesson. Love should never cost you your safety. Love should never silence your voice. And choices made out of control, jealousy or power always come with consequences. Both films pull you in emotionally, one through real life resilience, the other through suspense and drama. One teaches survival, the other shows how obsession destroys everything it touches. And honestly, both are worth watching. So for today's Ask Velvet double feature, they both get a thumbs up. This is Ask Velvet reminding you that the strongest thing a person can do is recognize their worth and walk away from anything that threatens it.
