Listen, there are two types of people on the metro the ones just trying to get to where they need to go and the ones who turn the entire train into a performance stage. And on this particular day, guess who showed up? So I'm standing this time train packed shoulder to shoulder, everybody pretending not to breathe too hard. Next thing you know, I hear I already knew. I said oh no, not today. Here come a group of teenagers sliding through the train like they're late for an audition.
SPEAKER_01Yo time, show time, y'all ready Now ain't nobody ready, but here they go anyway.
SPEAKER_00One of them grabs the pole, leans back like gravity don't apply to him, and starts spinning. Another one Phillips almost kicks a man's coffee clean out his hand. And the third one, oh he's the hype man. Don't get scared Don't scared we professionals Sir Professional wear Now everybody doing that stiff metro stance, trying not to move, trying not to blink, because if you flinch, you might get kicked. And just when you think it's over, they turn the train into a full obstacle course. Poles, seats, people's knees, nothing is safe. Then the grand finale, one of them climbs up, balances, flips, and lands this close to somebody's lap. The whole train gasp and without missing a beat, he goes and that's what we do. Cash amp, I don't pay zale, don't be shy. Now suddenly everybody's looking down, acting like they don't exist. Because we saw the show, but we not trying to be part of the donation. They hop off at the next stop like nothing happened. Train door closed, silence, and you can feel the collective relief. Somebody exhales loud like they just survived something. And I'm sitting there thinking only on the metro can you get a live performance, near death experience, and a payment request all in one stop. So now every time I hear show time, I don't even look up anymore. I just pray and hold on tight. Because on this train, you're either watching the show or you're part of it.
