Welcome back to Ask Velvet, where we speak truth, no sugar, no filter. Today we're talking about churches. Some of those churches that have taken faith and turned it into a business. You've got pastors out here telling their congregation they need to see your tithes returned. They want to know your income, your bank account, even your tax returns. But let me ask a simple question. What gives anyone the right to count somebody else's wallet? And here's something that really needs saying. These churches already get tax breaks. They're considered nonprofit organizations. They don't pay taxes on their income, their property, or their donations. So why for the average working person are they being pressured to give so much of their hard earned money in these tides? If the church is getting a financial advantage from the government, shouldn't the burden of the congregation be lighter, not heavier? These are not the pastors of our grandparents. Back then, pastors held regular jobs, they worked during the week and preached on Sundays. They didn't live in luxury off the members. They served, they guided, and they were there when people needed them. Today, many ministers, this is their only job. And it's only because the congregation spends so much money to support their lifestyles. And here's something even more ridiculous. Some pastors are telling their members pay your tithes first before your rent, before your mortgage, before your utilities, before your food. Think about that. When the rent is due, that pastor is not showing up. When the lights get cut off, they're not turning them back on. When your fridge is empty, they're not filling it. When your car breaks down, they're not helping. And what's worse, when you, a faithful member, actually need help, some of these churches will let you know quick, fast and a hurry we ain't got it. Even though you know they do, even though the resources are there, they just won't help. So let me be clear. I'm not saying don't pay your tithes. Yes, pay your tithes if that's part of your faith, but take care of your responsibilities first. Pay your rent, pay your mortgage, pay your utilities, put food on the table, handle your household, and then give to tithes. You will still be blessed. Blessings don't disappear just because you handled your responsibilities first. You have to take care of yourself because nobody else will. And let's be honest. A lot of these churches pass the basket not once, not twice, but at least six times during a single sermon. Give, give, give. And yet when you really need help, when life hits hard, they're nowhere to be found. Meanwhile, some of these pastors are living luxury lifestyles, expensive homes, fancy cars, traveling everywhere, all while the congregation struggles. That's why so many people are leaving church these days, because the same teachings you hear in church you can hear online, and sometimes these internet preachers are preaching better than the ones in the pulpit. But none of them online or in person are going to pay your bills. Quick reminder if you love Ask Velvet and you want to help keep the podcast going, I have a small goal. If I can get at least fifty people to support the show, I'll reach my goal. Tap the support the show button or donate to my cash app in the description. Every dollar helps keep the mic on and the conversation going. Faith should lift people up, not pressure them, shame them, or monitor their finances. New age pastors are nothing like our grandparents' pastors. Back then, ministry came first. Today, sometimes money comes first, even though churches get tax breaks. The pressure on the congregation is higher than ever. Take care of your responsibilities, protect your peace, give from the heart, not because someone is watching your bank account. Remember, likes spread the word, but donations keep the mic on. You've been listening to Ask Velvet, where we speak truth, no sugar, no filter. I'll see you next time.
