Welcome, welcome, welcome to Ask Velvet, where the stories are real, the vibes are unmatched, and apparently the porch is now a full blown performance stage. Now this morning, oh this wasn't just me stepping outside to get a little fresh air. No no no no no. This turned into a whole production. Picture it sunrise doing its thing, traffic rolling by, neighbors out here starting their day, and me sitting on my porch in my PJs minding my business like a peaceful citizen. But don't let the pajamas fool you because what started as a calm, quiet morning turned into something the neighborhood will probably be talking about for the rest of the week. So I'm out there, right, in my pajamas, got my bathrobe on, just trying to be productive. I said, Let me go ahead and sweep this porch because it had been looking at me funny for a few days. So I stopped sweeping nice and normal. Sweep sweep, sweep sweep, minding my business. Then I put my headphones on. Now listen, y'all already know the moment them headphones go on reality goes off. Next thing I know the music hits just right. My shoulders start moving, then my hips say Oh, we joining the meeting and just like that, I am no longer cleaning, I am performing. And somewhere between song number two and I know this is my part right here, that bath vogue gone. Slippers kicked off. Now I'm out there, barefoot, in my pajamas, giving the street a full live one woman show like I got tickets on sale. Cars slowing down. People probably thinking, is she okay? Did we miss rehearsal? Is this a flash mob of one? Meanwhile, I'm out there like don't worry about me. I am headlining this porch tour. But let me tell you something real. As funny as it probably looked, and I know it looked like I lost a small argument with reality, it felt amazing. Because in that moment I wasn't worried about who was watching. I wasn't thinking about being put together. I was just free, barefoot, comfortable in my own space, letting the music move through me like I didn't have a single care in the world. And honestly, that kind of joy is rare, but it shouldn't be. So here's what I want to leave you with. Find your moment. It might not be you're outside in your pajamas, shedding layers like you're in a transformation scene, but it might be something just as freeing. Sing loud, dance wild, laugh at yourself. Let go of that voice that says, What will people think? Because the truth is people are always going to think something. You might as well give them something entertaining to look at while you enjoy your life. And if you happen to be out there, barefoot in your PJs, dancing like nobody's watching. Just know somewhere, somehow, I'm doing the same thing on my porch too. This is Ask Velvet reminding you that joy doesn't have to be polished. It just has to be real.
